Christa Wise, a science student at the University of Guelph, majoring in zoology, is one of thousands of Canadians living with Lyme disease, an infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks.
Marshall Ward and Sara Geidlinger chatted at length with her about her past five years living with Lyme disease, and the many symptoms and challenges that can accompany it.
"My main symptoms were debilitating headaches, chronic fatigue, and an inability to think clearly which is known as 'brain fog,' along with lesser symptoms like joint and muscle pain," said Wise.
Despite seeing specialists, it took many appointments and tests before Wise finally received an accurate diagnosis, thanks to a Waterloo-based naturopath who suggested she get tested for Lyme disease in the United States.
On Bonn Park, Wise, who is currently a Director at Large for the National Wildlife Rehabilitation Foundation, shares her long, arduous and emotional journey towards recovery, the support she received, and her passion for biology and nature.
