Episode description

Waterloo Region-based Canadian/Egyptian artist and designer, Stephanie Boutari’s bright, bold, and colourful murals and installations celebrate the beauty of balance and simplicity.
Born and raised in Bahrain, Boutari came to Canada 15 years ago for her post-secondary education, studying architecture and completing her Master’s degree at the University of Waterloo.   A cooperative partner at BOKO, a design-build studio and workshop in New Hamburg founded by her husband Adam Schwartzentruber, whom she frequently collaborates with, Boutari’s eye-catching downtown public artworks can be found in places like Goudies Lane, Abe Erb, Settlement, and inside Vidyard, a converted historical building near Victoria Park.   On Bonn Park with Sara Geidlinger and Marshall Ward, Boutari reflects on how urban art, site-specific murals, and experimental works not only adds meaning to our everyday lives but creates one-of-a-kind gathering spaces in a vibrant and progressive technology hub like Waterloo Region.   https://www.stephanieboutari.com
