Welcome to episode one sixty three of the Bobby Cast. Songs with background singers you don't even know because they're famous, and they didn't really make it a thing, you know what I mean. I like it. It's kind of like like you just asked a friend to sing on a song. Yeah, yeah, and then you didn't make a big deal that they were singing on a song. And what I guess what really brought it up is and this is so like us.

Thing is I was talking about the Wallflower Sixth Avenue Heartache and Adam Dirts when the County Crows sings the background vocals, and that was so you hear Jacob Dylan and then here's a that's the background. How you do it right? That's the song, that's what. And so anytime they get to the hook, that guy's singing in the background, and at the end of the song he really starts doing runs all around it and you can tell that's the County Drugs. And we're such huge County Crows fans.

I remember when this came out and I was like, oh my gosh, like automatically you're like, that's Adam dirrt. It sounds so good. Can you just imagine that on the road somewhere recording it. That was traw six, that's Adam Dirt's the late sing on the County Crows singing background heart ache, and that is part of it too. You kind of imagine like, oh, I wonder like what they were doing and did he just were they out drinking? They're like, hey, you want to call it studio? Wanna quick,

let's just go in now. We know a lot of times, especially duets nowadays, they're not even the same roomor same who knows are we? Is that too much behind the curtain, because that really disappointed me a little bit, because there is that those things that you grow up just thinking like that's what it was like, and then when you find out it really something. Most of the time and

not always. I think artists are pretty open about it now though, sometimes because it's very disappointed to know that, like oh they were in the same room, like yeah, because you just picture on both of them with their finger in their ear yea, going exactly look at each other in the eyes. Um. Another really personal one is that is Nomas Day and Walker Hayes. We do a song called Nomast to the Raging Idiots. Walker Hayes, who I wrote it with things background vocals, don't know, probably

in the room. But now now if you know Walker spots, you can really hear Walker like in this a lot trying to be responsible, but you're making it impossible. And he does a lot of the oh stays looking at flex and bulling it down now mistake. So if you listen to that, it's Walker Hayes, it's Walk Up. Douced that song as first time Walking to re produce a song. I went in the studio and got it all together. Have you ever talked about the dog thing and how he was like, hey, don't be mad at me. I

don't know if you're gonna like it or not. No, I don't. I don't know, because that was he sent this when we first recorded it. Because again I went to Walk and I was like, hey, produce a song, and he's not, like I never produced a song before. And I was like, good, yeah, you got this, Yeah

we wrote it, let's go do it. And so we went to a studio and um, I wrote in my book to about how encouraging he was were in the studio, was like, yeah, you got it, And so I started to feel good and then he sent me over the track and he goes, hey, dude, I bark in it because that that wolf is him and it was not on their originally it wasn't not Yeah, and so that then we goes um downward dog and yeah, flexible and

your downward dog and that roof is Walker Hayes. Yeah, and I didn't know that, which is my favorite part of this and now everybody does it when we play it live. Yeah. Okay, now here are some real ones that aren't super personal to us because that wallflowers ones. Obviously we're nerds. And then obviously the NAMA State went reaching, okay,

why don't we do drink a beer? Chris, uh sorry, oh Luke, Brian, look, Brian, drink a beer and Chris Stapleton that's the background vocals, which interesting, we didn't know this bones and when and when Chris came in and talked about it, we still didn't know, and we're like, that's you. I thought it was a girl. We knew Chris wrote it, but we didn't know Chris sang background vocals. I'm said, it does sound like just I thought it

was a woman. That's Chris Stapleton thinking would look so I'm going said watch son say it does sound like a woman at times, unless you know it's Christmas. Well, he goes really high. They can't drink a beer, so friend, you can really hear the stables if you listen close to that curious I'll rema all the time. Used to Chris Stapleton, there can you sing that high? No? I can't sing and try it, said he one. Can you watch Sadus here you go? That's Chris Stample and sing

the background with Luke Bryan drank a bit. Do you know why they don't say the name or they just keep it kind of what do you mean like because sometimes they'll do feature. It's not a feature. They're just doing harmonies. It's just not a feature. Yeah, yeah, there are a lot of I mean, which is the point of all this? I mean, all of these are that basically if it's not a feature, it's just somebody's singing. Yeah, they just there's another one that we don't have on

our list. But Thomas Rhett when he does um yes, yes, uh yeah, Chris Stapleton does that? Is that right? Yeah? I didn't know that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, because Chris wrote that song too for Tom's Rhett. I'll pull it up in the library here, I'm looking for it, so crash here listen to this. I'm gonna play it from the beginning. But that's Chris going, oh here you go, yes over. Did you hear that? So now it sounds like Chris, alright, that's funny man. Yeah, let's not thinking that. I think

he told me it was. Um watch it not even beach Listen. We're like, but Chris wrote that song. It only makes sense that. Yeah, No, it sounds it does sound like now that I hear it. Um, how about this one? This is Katy Perry on the po D has a song called He's Written Funny. Po D has a song called Goodbye for Now. Okay, that's Katy Perry do in the background Bocal. The band became good friends of Katie Perry after someone recommended her for the song.

She would just come around the studio. It was really nice. She wasn't Katie Perry is a sweet girl. Was trying to make it in the Christian music scene, and they were Christians. That's hers. They said they heard that she was making this Christian gospel record, and all of a sudden she was in Hollywood trying to figure it out, so they put her on that song, well this earlier earlier, Yeah, sidetrack. That's really crazy that she that was the path she was trying to take. But then her first hit was

what I Kissed a Girl and I liked it. Her first pop hit was Second. She was on American her last night. She had mentioned that again has to grow up in the church, and you know, I was pursuing that. Yeah, and everybody was like, what this long is crazy? When she decided her background, you know, nobody knew her background because I was part of I was there. I was

part of that. Remember, she came into our TV studio and uh, one of our guys interview I think Michael Trey who interviewed her, and that was like her big thing, and she talked about like, yeah, like what our preacher dad, Like my dad's a minister or whatever he is. Maybe the thing was that she was a preacher's kid, But it wasn't that she had tried Christian music and was not doing pop. Got it, because when she came to radio, you knew she was a preachers kid, but there are

a lot of preachers kids, um. But she had actually do a Bobby, Bobby Cast and all the preachers kids. Right, they're all like rock stars. Now they're all death metal. Let's see, how about here's Ryan heard his song now to a t it's Mary Morrising you stay. I feel like they travel everywhere together, right, Like they're just not now. Well, she was off record cycle. Now she wasn't touring. Now she's back. Now she's out, you know, out of five thousand.

She has a world tour. Um. But yeah, but they're gonna be split up now because he's going his own way she's doing. But the thing about country touring is you're only gone for like three days a week and you come back home. Right where you do rock touring or pot touring months, it's you just take three months and you don't come back home unless you have like a week off you put in the middle of the tour and you get to go home for a few days,

which is so smart. The country tour and thing is like that's just a no brainer, Like we should just do that just to be able to live your life. It's like going to work for five days and there having the weekend. But some people don't want to have to tour all year. They like to go to a couple of months and they're just free for a couple of months. What would you rather do? No, you can't

stand being alone for like or just board for months? Well, I think I would probably The reason is I think I would probably go do a couple of months at a time and be done with it. Then I could just go focus on a full other project. I could take like a week or two vacation or whatever, but then I would I was going on the studio. I just have like a month in the studio, like I

like to focus all that time on it. Okay, But it's funny because any of my friends at working pop or do any other touring, they just leave and they don't come back. Even the Dancing with the Stars tour, they're gone for four months, didn't come back. It's like goodbye, and you make the bus. You live on the bus and then almost never hotels unless it's the day off. You just stay in the bus the whole time. Um, Cassidy Pope has a song if my Heart had a heart.

Do you know who things back around? This being the guy singing a background me. It's shape from Danish DN So yeah, that's from Dana shave singing. That one some of the best voices together right there. Yeah, let me do that real quick, let me do a commercial. We'll do some more of these. So how'd you get ready today? This is a coldplay ever glow? Do you know the song of the way was shot fone. Somebody is singing background. Yeah, it's Gwyneth And even after they broke up, because I knew she's saying because she's singing movie duets. It's a du quartine. It's one of the newer ones. Probably I know this song really well. So

she sang on this even though they were separated. It was you see what album that's away. It's probably the only breakup song in history? Was it? Head Dreams? It was possibly the only breakup song in history to have an ex backing vocals. He said he just did it one day. It was kind of a friendly Hey, would you mind singing background vocals? It's a lot easier to hang out with your X when you have kids together. Yeah, I would think you gotta you gotta remain friends that

you don't have to go that far sing on a record. Okay, here's one. Do you know this song? So you probably think this song is now it's Carly Simon, You're so vain. Now listen to the background vocal. It's a very very famous background vocal. I hear the guy so thank song. I can't mistake that, you know, Yeah, yeah, okay, Mick kind of dominates that song. Make Jagger contributed uncredited background

vocals during the sessions for You're Sylvain. He said that it took place just because he happened to be at a call at the studio. She's like, why don't you come down and sing? Then, and he hops down and sings, thank This song is up back, dude. That reminds me when we were recording our one of our Ragin Idiots records. Uh, kid Rock was in the studio at the same time, in another studio. Why didn't you just grab him and be like, dude, can you jump on planet song? We're

doing a Starbucks. I went into the wrong studio that day. Yeah, I walked into kid Rock recording because there's like three studios. I remember walking to going there talking about people. These people have beards in their meal. This isn't and hed Rock was in the boots singing and I was like, oh my god, oh my god. And I walked out and I walked over to you guys. I was like, uh, kid walks over there cutting music, and so I didn't

even know he's over there. That's what I picture when you hear oh yeah, the rolling Stone, Bob you come home and saying come, come, checks you out when I grow up hit it did die in the baby. Okay, here we go. How about this one? This is Kanye West, Jesus walks. The only thing that I phrased that, and I don't think there's nothing I could do that to. I want to talk guy, but I'm afraid that woman or the group of woman what that's not a woman, that's not a woman. That's not a woman, right? Who

is that? The only very famous person the only thing that I phrased that, And I don't think that could do that to my rose. I want to talk to guy, but I'm afraid because the way because the devil was trying to pro the only thing that I praised that my feet don't fail me. Now, yeah, I could do that only because I read it. Because John Legend. Oh okay, okay, he does kind of He sings high. John Legend sings background on six songs from graduation, including Jesus Walks Legends.

Old roommate happened to be Kanye West cousin. The two hit it off, sort of clavering on each other. He introduced to back when the rapper was just producing beats. They became friends, kinda did not have a record dealt time, but when he did, mber John Legend and got him one too. The only thing that I praised that my

feet now. And I was watching the CNN series about the two thousand's and they're talking about the music and it was the deck to where producers became famous too, where it was producers and DJs for the first time. And there's like a whole thing on Timberland showing jay Z the beat for nine and no uh rick Rick Rick rupitated nine and the problems but puppa pup up

Uh what's that one? Yeah? Timberland shows him doestop you shoulders first time everyone because Jason, they're sitting and like, I got to stick out this, and Jaz's like whoa and then Jaz puts puts put zephones on and just

like just starts to crushing. I love that. And like Rick Rick talking at Rick Rubin making the because Rick Rubin hadn't done like a hip hop record since like the Beastie Boys like some and so how he took nine nine Problems and like was adding like a c D c licks to it, and how it's he was like, we got the wrap Patrol, and yeah, it's cool. That is pretty cool that the producers started getting a little bit of popularity because they are the brains behind the music.

I guess the reason I bring it up. So that's how Kanye was. Kanye produced jay Z and so it was like Kanye West was a producer who also wanted to try to make him name for himself, you know, as a rapper, but was producing all these artists. Farrell was another one they talked about. He's he's a producer before he started doing you know Farrell. There was another

and they're talking about DJs like Calvin Harris. No, he'said later, but it was like Diplo, Dead Mouse, some of those guys that were like they would go and play these shows and ten thousand people would show up and people couldn't understand how tends people to go watch dj perform. But the DJs were like, it's not about us. We've created an environment. Everybody's watching everybody else. Like we've created

the environment that everybody's watching each other. No one wants to watch us, but we've created the place where they can come and actually watch something. It's each other. It's pretty cool. I've always wondered that, Well it went to Bonaroo. When you're o and you're gonna go to Bondary this year,

you might you have to check this out. They have silent disco and everyone puts headphones on as a DJ plays, And so when you walk up there and you watch everyone dancing with headphones, they can hear the music, but you cannot. They look so dumb, and they look they just look like idiots dancing. I mean they're getting down and then you put the headphones on. You're like, okay, I get it, so you start moving like I mean,

you hear it so loud and it's a party. But if you don't have the headphones on, you look pretty stupid. I haven't been a music festival since Austin's the Limits years ago. This is a little different. It is, I'd say a lot more drugs. Yeah, I don't do drugs. Just around you can tell people are like you could tell they're messed up. Wait, do I need to do drugs? Can I? You don't need to do drugs to go? Can I do? Can I not do drugs? Not fun? Yeah? Yeah,

because you like music. I think a lot of these kids go and they probably They'm sure they love music, but it it enhances their experience. What if I wanted to be in hand? Don't stop? What a viagra do you want? I don't know any drugs. I was like, stay away from this dude. They can tell. There's a

different ways. Guys walking around with the sword. Yeah, and with that festival because I've never been to Von Roue, but at my manager actually owns part of the festival, and he's like, go go, go go, you know, hook you up and get you all the passes. And I'm gonna take a tour bus. Why people stay in tense You can stay in like one holiday in there's only one or two. It's hard to get anyway. And I was like, I'll just get a tour bus and go because that's nice. And we sleep in those in the

bedroom there are bunks. Takes some friends right there is that gonna be gross would be great. I mean, I say you second day, you're gonna be ready to leave. I think you're gonna have a great one day. Like one day you're just gonna be like, dude, this is great. I love it. And then after that you're like, all

I'm ready, I'm done. Because we may have what it's called aged out, which is a problem because I'm gonna probably take four and five other people with me because I can sleep on the bus, but then they have to go with me. But the thing with us is we we we see a lot of music, and so uh you you probably get like since since your manager owns some of it, like he'll probably give you a good like you know, wristband or whatever and get you some good access. But the problem with Bonnaroo, which is

I've never seen this in any other fest. Tool they have zones of like general population, and then one zone in front of them that's like regular V I. P. And then they have artists right in front. So if you have an artist badge, you can go right in the front to any stage. But as soon as that's fool, it doesn't matter if you're Kanye or if you're whatever, like Mick Jagger, you're not getting in that zone. Like if it's full, it's full, So it doesn't matter if

you have an artist pass. So it's kind of cool. But like south By Southwest, where yes, exactly you can have a badge, but if you don't get there early enough, you're not watching it. So it's really interesting the way they spots and just sitting weight on people. Yeah, I mean, if you want to see like someone in particular, i'd go the band before and just stay there. Oh no, no, you actually can't because they kick everyone out between every band. Oh that's good. Then you have to have a shot.

But if you're just a little late, two songs late, you're not getting in. I think you're I think, I think you'll like it. But one day, I think you have one day in you But I can't leaven having people with me. You just hang on the bus. You'll probably just snapped the whole time, watch friends on the bus. That I could do. I just want to do in the house anyway. Okay, we have that one. How about this one? Here is the Righteous Brothers. You've lost that

loving feeling, that love like motown someone. Now you can absolutely hear this person. When I tell you, you'll be like, oh, it's said, it's it says the Righteous Brothers. Do you think you're hearing two brothers singing, you're not. You're hearing the lead singer and the background vocalist. Okay, Ray Charles. You know how earlier you thought Stamps was a girl. You're thinking that this dude's you're thinking that this is

a girl's a dude. It's a girl. That's a girl listening deep Nope, deep that Okay, is gonna read the Franklin. That's not a girl. And when I tell you, go, oh, who is it? My kid, that's exactly it. I thought she sings. She sings like that. Normally every impression of her is like, oh, share share, that's share that share. She sings so low. But now it doesn't it sound like shair. Now I hear that's now, that doesn't sound like a dude. You my kid? Funny, huh what if

the other brother do then? Just watched he's playing the drums. Just watch her brother. I have no idea. How about this one? Here is Elton John Uh, here we go time by picking Brian, you won't get this one sound so okay, you might you know the song is you'll even know the song's that called the Bitch? Is that? Can you hear the person right around saying yeah? And you you definitely know the person. But I don't think you're getting a legendary British singer to one of the beautis.

It's your ringo. I'm picking Brian sound so night. I don't know Dusty Springfield? Oh yeah, okay? How about this one? Is dust to your girl? You need to do your research on ut Springfield? Why am I thinking Dusty as a girl? You tell me what comes up when you google son of a Preacher. Man, it's a girl. Of course it's a girl. Okay, okay, okay, okay. I thought you guys were like, no, it's a dude, Dusty Baker, the form manager of the Cover Giants, Dusty spring Okay,

all right, that's wrong with you? Um okay. How about this one here is Choker con our Love. It's in danger. I told you, man, I'm getting so. I don't think you'll get it, but you're here and go Okay, they say yet Luther andros Oh yeah, okay. How about the beetles? All he needed to love? So the dolls. I didn't know anyone saying with the Beatles. The Beatles except for Ringo who was behind a drum kid, were seated on high stools right they were with thirteen pieces of orchestra band.

The band had friends and acquaintances all on the floor. Who sang along with the fade out with the refrain and then all of these people I bet to tell you are singing in this. All these people right now, you can't identify them by that because they're but you'll know next time you hear it. Yeah, I can't pick anyone out, can't pick it, but it's cool. Who's Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Keith Moon from The Who, Graham

Nash from Crosby stool Um, Patty Boy, Jane Nasher. It's just a whole bunch of people that were having to be around then before they all get super awesomely famous, and some of them more even famous. So yeah, anyway, there's some background. I thought, that's I don't know if anyone knew that that's that's well, yeah, some people do know that one. Yeah, but did you know have you heard? Um? This isn't like someone being there, but James Taylor, what

about it? What's the part and the whole Caroline in my mind? Okay, So he wrote that line when the Holy Host of Others standing around you. Still I'm on the dark side of the moon. He's in that line. He said that the Beatles were in the studio while he was recording that song and he was like, oh, I've got to put that in because it was yeah, because it was like the Holy Host that they're just watching you record this song, when the Holy Host of

others standing beside you. Oh, that's why I put it in. Yes, And they were in the room watching him, saying they were just in the student in the control room like, oh, like when the James Taylor's this for a seconds, the James Taylor, that's funny to me. His name was young, had all the hair, mustache, because I don't know that James. He looked like a rock star now bald glasses. I don't know him otherwise except bald. Like in my it's

like Willie. I don't know Willie anyway, but old. And when you watch when you see Willie without a beard or long hair, it's pretty crazy. Even when we were born and we were born in the eighties. I was born like Willie was already old. Like there's no young Willies ever existed to me, So what are we looking at here? Indeed, the recording Carolina Mine includes a credit appearance abou Paul mcarty in the bass guitar. There you go. Didn't know that in that song? Ye, what's your chairs

to do on it? We didn't even know this in my mind. I'm gone, Carolina. That's that based Paul. Can you see the sunshine? Pretty cool? Right, shine Dany? Just like fandom, do people our age? Because I love it? I love it. It's the generation before us. I don't know, maybe even two generations before us, because you know, I

was a nineties music kid. Like my music was everything that happened in the nineties, the first the first music that I found myself loving, the country part of the nineties, the Garden, Timbergraw, the alternative part of the nineties that are Bonna Pearl Jams, the pop part of the nineties later on, the Brittany and Snink, and I was starting to get a little too old for that, but still that was it, right, that's our music, even the the side nineties stuff, the stuff that was like Counting Crows,

the kind of the emo alternative stuff, which I became a huge County Crows fan, and there were a lot of those like you two, It's like, no, that's more the pop pop. That would be more that was getting a little young. Yeah, that was like almost the two thousand mark, No Effects or whatever. I was in college when that was the alternative station. Um, but two generations ahead of now would be So if now as are you on a grand day? Then it hadn't that had

to be it had to be like the TLC. Yeah, then I had to be the nineties stuff, which you know, kids now don't know that stuff, but I'm sure some do and they appreciate it. So yes, James Taylor would be Yes, that TLC two kids now is James Taylor. That's I think that sounds about right. Do you like James Taylor. It's just it's so soft and easy and smooth and like I feel like most people be like, what is this crab? Like? Turn it off? But I

truly enjoy listen to James Taylor. Yeah, me too. I but you know I listened to oldies radio a lot, but the oldies radio is changing, dude. Well, yeah, one they play in now food fire Yeah, but also radio changed. You know, you don't need a station to play all

kinds of stuff. It's just it's so funny. I'll get on iHeart the hard app and I will search oldies just because I want to hear some like you know, uh, like Everly Brothers and whatever, Temptations, that kind of stuff, And like I can't find any playlists or anything that happen if you have to look at fifties and sixties, yeah, you have to go decades, that's right, because like I'm like classic rock, may you what it would be now?

Like you would hear you two mysterious ways and you would go, oh, I mean again, this is a bit a bit before I but you two wasn't before. I was classic rock when we were when we were growing up, and it's still part of classic rock, but it's just some of that newer stuff. I feel like making love, yeah, all that stuff grown up and a Douce and the Night.

Do you know. I think a lot of my music history and my knowledge comes from just listening to oldies all the time and my stepdad when I became a teenager. When I think about you, I think about of course, but that's that's where my music knowledge really comes from. They also sing I love Joe Cocker. So there you go. Good stuff, man, You enjoy the episode, Everybody, This is um Episode one Stree famous background singers we should tielessingly cool though. Yeah, like you didn't even know they were

background singers. Yeah, yeah, you don't know. Crap up what you know about background singers? You didn't what quit title this on the front side? Whatever you just said, you just said it. You didn't even know these fans. You only get like so many words right right, also becomes you can't see the rest of it. We'll figure it out by the time you see the title and be like, oh that's what they settled on. Good good one. Guys. Check out the Sore Losers podcast with the producer Ready

if you love sports. Sore Losers podcast with Lunchbox Raimundo and producer Ready Eddie. Always fun to do this, buddy, Yeah, do I like it? And what's what's the next one? We're thinking of doing? What's up? And we have kind of we've been talking about soundtracks like like yeah, like I love soundtracks. The best soundtrack because that used to be a thing today A bit so, but a lot of times they just take old songs and put them on soundtracks. Um, they didn't always do that, use they

used to create new songs for soundtracks. But I was so nerdy that I would listen to the Field of Dream soundtrack, the Rudy soundtrack with just nothing but instrumental music, like orchestra music. That's pretty nerdy. Brave Heart soundtrack. I'd buy those CDs. Thank you guys. This episode one the Bobby Cast. It's always thanks for our sponsors. Thanks to producer Ready at producer Ready on Instagram and the Sore Losers podcast. Thank you very much, See you next time.
