¶ Building Kim Jim's Elaborate Cubby
This episode of Bluey is called Cubby. It's a quiet day at the Healer house, and Dad is stretched out on the couch watching cricket on TV. His focus is glued to the match as a commentator's voice fills the room. Nearby, Bluey and Bingo are huddled in a cozy blanket fort, playing a board game with a plush puppy named Kim Jim.
One, two, three, four, five, six. Bluey counts aloud, moving a piece on the board. Well done, Kim Jim. You won again. Yay, again. Bingo cheers, speaking in character as Kim Jim. But Bluey has other plans. No, time for your nap, young man. Bingo looks around their fort. Hmm, there's no room for Kim Jim to sleep. Bluey's eyes light up with an idea.
Meanwhile, Mom is inspecting the living room with a critical eye. She places her hands on her hips. I think if we knocked this wall out, this room would feel so much bigger. Dad, without taking his eyes off the TV, responds casually. It's already big enough, babe. But mom shakes her head. It's not. It's too cramped. The only thing in this room that needs to be bigger.
dad argues, is the TV. Mom looks incredulous. What are you talking about? It's huge. It's not. 50 inches is no longer an acceptable size in this day and age. I can hardly see what's going on. Mom sighs. I'm getting the tape measure. At that moment, Bowie runs up to Dad. Dad, we need this cushion. Huh? What? Why? We're building a bedroom for Kim Jim.
Before Dad can protest, Bluey grabs the cushion and runs off. Moments later, Bingo enters with a determined look. Uh, we need that one too. Dad reluctantly scoots over, allowing Bingo to take another cushion. And that one. She adds, pointing to yet another cushion. Dad groans, pulling a decorative cushion from behind him and plopping it on the floor to sit on. Thank you! Bingo giggles as she awkwardly carries the cushions back to the fort.
Inside the fort, the new bedroom takes shape. Here you are, Kim Jim, your new bedroom, Bluey announces proudly. Do you like it? Bingo asks. Bingo replies as Kim Jim. Yes, I love it. before gently placing him on the makeshift bed. With Kim Jim's bedroom complete, Bluey and Bingo now decide that Kim Jim also needs a playroom. They spring into action.
raiding the linen closet for more sheets and dragging dining room chairs into the living room. The fort grows rapidly, transforming the once simple space into a sprawling cubby house. Bluey, pushing a dining chair into place, interrupts Dad's cricket watching again. Dad, you're in the way! Dad groans. Can't you build around me? I'm trying to watch the cricket! No!
Bluey replies matter-of-factly. With a resigned sigh, Dad shifts closer to the TV. Well, that settles that then. But Bluey isn't done yet. Oh, can we have that cushion? she asks, yanking the cushion from under Dad. It can be a bath for Kim Jim, she exclaims. Oh yeah, Bingo chimes in. Let's build a bathroom. As the fort expands, Dad continues to watch the cricket.
now sitting directly on the hard floor surrounded by the ever-growing cubby. The girls worked tirelessly, adding a bathroom, a dining room, and even an art room for Kim Jim.
¶ Lost in the Cubby Maze
Each room is carefully crafted with love and imagination. Back in the real life living room, mom measures a wall with the tape measure. Five and a half meters. Oh, that's just too small. Dad, meanwhile, faces a new challenge. Nature calls, but the path to the bathroom is now a labyrinth of cushions, blankets, and chairs. He stands up, realizing he is definitely going to need help navigating the maze.
Hey, kids, he calls out. Yeah, Bluey and Bingo pop their heads out from the fort. I need the toilet. Just go to the toilet, Bluey says, as if it's the most obvious solution. Well, how am I going to get to the toilet? Dad asks, exasperated. It's easy, Bluey begins. Head to the dining room, then go past the alpaca farm, around the cactus garden, through the star room, Bingo adds, and out the netball court.
Dad stares blankly, but drops to his hands and knees, trying to remember the complicated directions. Inside the fort, Dad crawls through a tunnel of cushions, peeking into various rooms. Wasn't there something about an alpaca farm? He mutters, glancing into a room filled with plush animals. Nah, those are lemurs. As he continues his journey, Dad stumbles upon a room with gnomes, lounging in an inflatable pool under a disco ball.
This place is nuts! He even bumps into Mom, who instructs him to take the tape measure down the cubby tunnel to help her with her project. As Dad continues his crawling mission to find the toilet, now with the tape measure in hand, Bluey and Bingo's game takes a dramatic turn. They realize Kim Jim is missing. Where's Kim Jim? Bingo asks. I thought he was with you, Bluey replies.
The girls' eyes widen. We've lost Kim Jim! The sisters race through the fort, calling out for their beloved plush puppy. Kim Jim, where are you? their voices echo through the labyrinth as they search every room from the zoo filled with stuffed animals to the greenhouse overflowing with potted plants dad still lost in the cubby maze crosses paths with the girls
What are you doing? We're trying to find Kim Jim, they cry in unison. Dad groans. Oh man, I can't deal with this. Look, kids, where is the toilet? It's through there, bingo points. Thank you. Dad scrambles off, determined to find relief. He crawls in the direction that Bingo pointed, only to find a pretend cubby toilet. I meant the real toilet, Dad screams in agony.
The girls run through each hallway and room, becoming increasingly upset about losing Kim Jim. There's too many rooms, Bingo cries, and the girls both howl sadly. As Dad attempts to find the real toilet, he hears the commentator announce that the cricket is returning from tea and decides to take a peek as play gets underway on the Oval.
¶ The Cubby Collapse and Family Values
but as he stands, he accidentally knocks one of the blanket walls down. One thing leads to another, and soon the entire fort begins shaking. Back in the star room, Bluey and Bingo hear the rumbling. What's that noise? Bingo asks. Oh no! Cubby, collapse! Bluey grabs Bingo's hand. Run! The girls dash through the fort as the walls cave in around them.
They narrowly escape falling cushions and plush toys, leaping to safety just in time. Finally, amidst the chaos, they spot Kim Jim sitting safely in the original part of the fort. Kim Jim, they cry, rushing to embrace him. Oh, Kim Jim, we're so sorry. That's okay, Bingo says in Kim Jim's voice, forgiving them with a smile.
As the dust settles, the living room returns to normal. Dad is back on the couch watching cricket while Bluey and Bingo play quietly in the now smaller cubby. Mom enters with two cups of tea and sits behind Dad. dad takes a sip and sighs contentedly you know what this tv is big enough mom smiles so is this room look at it i don't know what i was thinking
Bluey and Bingo, nestled in their single-room fort, finish another game. You win again, Kim Jim, Bluey announces. Whee! Bingo makes Kim Jim jump for joy, accidentally knocking over a cushion. Do you kids need more room? Mom asks. No, we're fine, they reply, pulling the cushion back into place. And with that, the healer house returns to its usual, happy, imaginative chaos. Mom, Dad, Bluey, and Bingo are all reminded that no matter the size of the space, home is where your family is.
