Speaker 1

Well, now it's time for our daily Bloomberg Labbryff exploring legal issues in the news, and the Bloomberg labref has brought to you by American Arbitration Association. Business disputes are inevitable, resolve faster with the American Arbitration Association, the global leader in alternative dispute resolution for over ninety years. More at a d r dot org. Today Bloomberg Lajos Doing Grosso and Greg Stewart discussed today's confirmation hearing for Neil Gorsuch

to fill Antonin Scalia's seat on the Supreme Court. They speak with the Utah Senator Mike Lee, who was a member of the Judiciary Committee. You've said Judge gorse would make a great Supreme Court justice. Democrats said the same thing about Merrick Garland. Both very well respected, great qualifications. Given that Republicans blocked to vote on Merrick Garland, is there any reason a Democrat should support Neil Gorsuch is a good judge, and I know people have the same

thing to say about Merrick Garland. At the time, there were reasons behind the fact that America Arland didn't get confirmed, including the fact that we were in the final year President Obama's administration, and we were just a few months away from a presidential election that the American people knew

would decide important issues regarding the future of our country. So, particularly for those who supported Merrick Garland, I would say to them, take a look at Judge Corse, which this was not his judgment call whether or not Merrick Garland should be confirmed. Take a look at him. Judge him based on his own merits, and I think they'll like what they see. Senatorally, President Trump has disparaged federal judges who have ruled against him. Judge Gorse will undoubtedly be

asked about that. What kind of a response do you expect from him? I think he'll give a fair minded judicial answer to a pointing out that there are principles of law and are there to protect the separation of powers between the three branches of the federal government, and that we need to do everything we can to respect those boundaries of those limitations before them. Would you like

to hear him say something in particular there. I mean, you come from a family that is very steeped in and the legal profession your father was to general, your brother is a judge. Do you do you hope to hear him, Uh, you know, say that what the President said was out of line. Look, he's not there to be the president's coach. He's not there to be the president's critic. He's been nominated not for White House Press Secretary or causseilor or advisor to the President, but for

the Supreme Court of the United States. I suspect he'll answer questions that are related to his judicial role or to the role of the courts. Uh. But I also suspect he's going to be somewhat reluctant, understandably to comment on what the President chooses to say in a press conference or in a tweet.
