This is a gorgeous ocean front enclave, classic style, contemporary luxury, great food and great drinks, which brings us in a certain sense to our very special guest joining us now here in Bermuda. Uh the seventh generation to run a two d old company, her daughter eighth generation taking over

as marketing manager. We're talking about Nancy Gosling. She's president and CEO of Gosling's group of companies, and her daughter Victoria Esposito, who has just taken over in the last couple of years as marketing manager for this world renowned rum company. Ladies, welcome you both to the show. Thank you so. Nancy, first of all, tell people the history of this company. You're over two hundred years old. Started out when James Gosling to England in eighteen six, honestly

to America, but stopped Bermuda and started this company. Yes, well, he actually started the sailing vessel and they were becalmed and the charter round out. They had over ten thousand pounds worth of lines and spirits on board then, which is a lot of alcohol in eighteen o six. It's oh anniversity on to twenty when they landed and uh, they found a business here with the British Navy and set up shop in St. George's and kind of never

looked back. Victoria, I wonder if you could comment on this. Uh, seems to be a craze almost in the world of brown spirits. Everyone seems to want a brown spirit of some kind, and those that have it want to maybe keep it exclusive. For example, it was the story today about brown Form and they make Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey that they may be looking to sell the Finland via uh you know brand Have you noticed that because you have those different color grazes. Yea, So I mean liquor

trends always changing, which makes an interesting business. Persis Bermuda as a market is interesting because we are so close to the States, so we get a lot of those trends reflecting here in Bermuda. And we have noticed a change to brown spirits in the past two years, which is a great thing for our rum because we are always trying to keep up with a recent trends. But at the same time, the white spirits they continue to

thrive like they do. But it's really interesting even to see a lot of the old fashioned cocktails coming back, which go great with our rum and our old rum which we always push well. And I I the gosling that I first got acquainted with has a very rich, almost lacessey kind of flavor. And yes, you have a lot of when you've got a lot of the dark

and stormy. I don't know if a lot of people realize that they're pathic formuta, if they don't drink them back in the States, that it is a trade mark drink. And if you don't use glassing room, somebody's gonna come knock it on your door. It's a simple recipe. It's Gosling's black Field Rum and ginger beer. Uh the ginger beer part isn't trademark, but we now have Gosling's Ginger Beer, which is selling very well worldwide at the moment, and we design that who goes specifically with our room. It's

the perfect match for a dark story. But a lot of people aren't aware that it is a trademark, So we spend a bit of time defending our trademark. But it's worth the defense. Can you give us a little sort of story about where the sugar cane is grown and how it ends up tasting so uh so lovely in a in a Gostling concoction. No, alright, those the

sources and the blending is what makes us unique. But I mean people know that that the dark Rum comes from sugarcane which goes into molasses which is then aged and barrels, and uh, we source from different locations, but that's very important to your The proprietary aspect of that

is something that you hold very close absolutely. How much is the trademark on the drink of marketing strategy and how and or how important is it that people can only use scuffling room in a dark and stormy Technically speaking, anyway, it's very important because as the years go on, more

and more spirits keep being introduced into the market. So it's very important for us to defend that certain cocktail, especially since, especially on the East Coast of the United States, the Dark and Stormy is becoming very well known and very popular. So it's important to us to defend that and make sure that people know that it is to

be made with gausing black Seal rum. Now why is it called black seal Because when we first started battoling rum, it was difficult to obtain bottles and we didn't have a sophisticated bottling line or anything like that. We used to reuse old champagne bottles. We used to sterilize and and that's what we bottled our products in. And we had several types of products. They were bottled in old champagne bottles and then they were sealed with ceiling wabs, and we had a red seal, a blue seal, a

black seal, and the black Seal rum. That blend was the most popular. And when we were finally able to obtain bottles and do our own packaging and labeling. It was my uncle actually who decided that the black ceiling wax should turn into this seal. He made that and that's why our old rum is packaged like it is now in a Champagne type bottle with ceiling black ceiling wax on it. It's it's supposed to replicate the original rum. Well, it certainly creates the original feeling. Thank you very much

for spending time with us. Nancy Goslings, the President, chief executive Gosling's Group Companies, and Victoria Esposito, the marketing manager of a Gosling's Group of companies.
