Global business news twenty four hours a day. If Bloomberg dot Com, the radio plus mobile APT and on your radio. This is a Broomberg business flash from Bloomberg World Handquarters. I'm Charlie, Peta dal the SMP, Nestack or all Trading Laurel. Let's head right over to the first word breaking news desk for today's afternoon call. Here he is. He's back,

Bill Maloney, Good afternoon, Charlie. That's right. In the US, averages are lower today in a quiet session, with the Doubt currently down thirty two points, SP dropped four in, NAZAC is down fourteen. The small cap six hundred is lower by a point, and the US ten yield at one point five eight percent. Eight out of tennis B sectors are lower, led by losses in healthcare, telcom and consumer Discretionary. Energy and materials lead down. Transports are a

little change and as a BOTTEX drop thirty eight. Utilities fall a point, and the VIX is higher by one point eight percent. Deal leaders said the downside included Mark Fiser and mcdonal, while the leaders included ex On Mobile, Caterpillar and Chevron. Bristol Myers fell another four and a half percent after Friday's six percent decline, while Southby sowed as much as twenty three percent. That's in most since

after its results. Live from the first breaking news dask On boll maloney, Charlie, all right, thank you very much, and to hear live breaking news over your Bloomberg type squawk as Q you a w K on your terminal. I'm Charlie Pollock. That's a bloom Bird business flash. Now on Bloomberg Radio, we take stock of healthcare. The issue of drug pricing has been at the forefront, certainly in

the political realm for the last few months. We're living in a very special time in the history of the pharmaceutical industry, and the three percent of all biotechs that start actually get the drug approved. It's a very hard thing to do. Bloomberg taking sto healthcare and focus on Bloomberg Radio. If you happened to be in a San Diego over the last couple of days, the world's largest

gathering of life extension enthusiasts was held. World prodowned futurist and inventor Ray Kurzweil, one of the creators of optical character readers that delivered the keynote address here to help us understand more about life extension enthusiasts is Bill Falloon. He is the co founder of the Life Extension Foundation. Bill, thanks very much for being with me. Appreciated greatly. First time in medical history, for the first time ever, multiple

methods of inducing meaningful human age reversal were presented. I've been working at this my whole life. Never happened before. Bill. Before we get into the details of what was said or presented at the gathering, I wonder if you could explain to people that are not familiar with the term life extension, what does it encompass. Up until now, life extension meant taking steps to slow down your rate of biological aging and reduce your risk of degenerative disease. That's

up until now. But that's all changed. We are now looking at ways to reverse biological aging. And we saw people presenting the results of their clinical studies, meaning human studies showing meaningful age reversal. It's it's unprecedented, and we believe it's going to launch an entire new market. Before we get into that, maybe you could just explain this age reversal study in the context of genetic analysis. Well, let me let me just give you. There was many,

many presentations different ways of inducing age reversal. But what we normally try to look at our factors such as endothelial function, in other words, how healthy is your arterial system. We look at lipid levels, glucose, We look at the insulin. Older people have too much of it. So we look at a broad odd range what we call bio markers of aging, including whatever genetics we can find, but those

have not been totally validated yet. But in study after study, they're seeing regeneration in vital tissues and organs in response to therapies that have worked animals but have never been attested in humans before. And we were able to put all of these sciences together in one conference over three and a half days, and we gave him each about fifteen minutes to present, and we brought someone else back on UH to show us what they were doing to reverse aging. What is the Crisper system and how does

that relate to this topic. That is the most promising technology there is. Crisper cast nine is being studied by Dr George Church at Harvard University. He predicted in The Washington Post published in December two thousand fifteen that human beings will be able to reverse their aging process using Crisper cast nine with then the next five years. We're wildly enthusiastic about that. We did not invite Dr Church out there because people in our longevity community we know

he's doing great work. We hope what he's doing will be that silver bullet. But we're not waiting. We're exploring many other ways of inducing meaningful reversal of biological aging. But can you just give me one example, specifically of a therapy or a regiment or any kind of a real simple one. There's a protein in the blood called g DF eleven that stands for growth differentiating factor eleven that also is being studied in animals at Harvard University.

It induces systemic age reversal in the animal model. There's a group of longevity enthusiasts who are using g DF eleven on themselves and carefully monitoring a wide range of bio markers, and they're all showing significant age reversal with one serious side effect, and we will we have to overcome that one. And what is the serious side effect? Their youthful appetite has been restored. They are over consuming calories. They're putting on a little weight in response to them

eating more food than they know they should be. But their sense of smell has been restored. The biomarkers of endo fudial function that the blood lipids, the glucose, they're all going back to the youthful range. And response to just one one intervention, three injections a week of g d F eleven is causing these individuals to have their aging process go in reverse. And they're being inundated from

people who say, I want to join your group. What is the what is the Food and Drug Administration's response to this? Oh, they would just say you can't do it. They would say you can't be doing this sort of thing that people aren't waiting. This is like the HIV community in early nineteen eighties. We're aging to death. We can't wait for the FDA to put a rubber stamp

on something. So these are groups of individuals taking the initiative to try to reverse aging and their own bodies and and in other cases there are credential DOT doctors doing a peer review clinical studies where you do have FDA approval. But what was so exciting here were people coming up showing the results of technologies where they do really have intellectual property interest in it. They were just individuals trying to reverse the raging process. In other cases

there were credential physicians. We've gotta leave it there, we gotta run. Bill Falloon, he is the co founder of Life Extension Foundation, talking about new techniques to reverse the aging process.
