Speaker 1

From politics in Brazil to politics in the United States. Kevin Surreally joins this now a reporter from Bloomberg News. He's located in Washington, d C. Home bloom home of Bloomberg Point one to take a look at Donald Trump and the search for a running mate, which he wrote about today. Kevin, who is leading the search and who's

at the top of the list, Well, thanks for having you. Know, it really has been remarkable because earlier we reported that Dr Ben Carson, one of Mr Trump's former presidential rivals, was part of the search committee. But now we are hearing that his campaign manager, Korey Lwandowski is leading the search,

and so the infighting continues within the Trump presidential campaign. However, some of the names that we are hearing are, of course people like Ohio Governor John Kasik, who has expressed little to no interest and refuted any suggestions from Trump's liaisons that he would be interested in the vice presidential spot. Also, of course, people like Senator Marco Rubio to some extent, um to some extent people like New Gingrich and uh and and and and Susanna Martinez just the name of you.

So it's going to be really interesting We could also, of course see maybe someone in military background, a political outfider his gif. So we do expect that choice sometime before the convention. Now, before we get too far ahead of ourselves having to do with a vice presidential nominee on the Republican ticket, can you tell us what is going on with the Republican leadership as far as support for Donald Trump is concerned me tomorrow with r N

at the headquarters in Washington. He will also be meeting with House members. Of course, House Speaker Paul Ryan is slated to meet with him. Dr Carson, who has emerged as a top surrogate for Donald Trump, is spoke with House Speaker Ryan and last night by phone. I'm reporting that his liaison tell me it was a productive meeting in which Dr Carson vouched for Paul Ryan. I'm sorry doubts for Donald Trump's demeanor, uh and and decision making

ahead of their meeting. He will the Sir Trump will also meet with senators top Senate leadership in Washington tomorrow as well. So a jam packed day as Donald Trump continues to try to unify the Republican Party behind his insurgent campaign. So Kevin and of course even Marco Rubio, I shouldn't say even including Marco Ruby, who has now agreed that he is the presumptive nominee. What does he need to do? People who you talk to, what does Donald Trump need to do to unify the party around him?

Donald Trump needs to do two things. He needs to Number one, embrace the establishment figures who have endorsed his candidacy, people like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who is leading his finance and fundraising operations and and who have been there with him from the start candidly, even you know, shortly after the short short for the New Hampshire primary. And he also needs to embrace newer figures like Senator Marco Rubio. But he has to who are rallying behind

this candidacy. But he has to make sure that he doesn't alienate the base of his support who, quite frankly, after traveling in virtually wherever Trump goes for the past year and for the past year now, I can tell you that a large part of his appeal to his supporters are that, quite candidly, the people that he's meeting with in Washington tomorrow can't stand him. And so there is an element where if he gets too cozy with them,

then that could hurt his base. He can't be perceived as being bought and paid for by the same people that he took on and defeated. Can you bring us up to date on Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders? After Bernie Sanders victory in West Virginia? Well, who would have thought that the Republicans would have a presumptive nominee before the Democrats? Right? I mean, it really is remarkable, and I think it speaks to Hillary Clinton's flaws as a candidate.

But the Clinton campaign today is feeling extraordinarily confident. They still feel that they have the delegates, that they still have the apparatus and the money to make sure that she becomes the Democratic nominee. Already today we're seeing more of an escalation of them pivoting to a general election matchup against Donald Trump. People like Senator Elizabeth Warren, who have who has emerged as a top Democratic surrogate, have been lambasting Donald Trump all day on Twitter, which is

rare because she doesn't really speak to reporters ever. And then also to some extent yesterday, I was on a conference call with some top Clinton campaign surrogates and advisers, and they were attacking Donald Trump's tacked policy plan. So who would have thought the Clinton's are preparing to battles Donald Trumps. Thank you very much. Kevin Sorelli, Bloomberg Politics reporter, joining us from Washington, d C.
