Speaker 2

Good morning.

Speaker 3

I'm Nathan Hager and I'm Karen Moscow. Here are the stories we're following today.

Speaker 4

Karen, we begin with a focus on the presidential race and the results of our latest Bloomberg News Morning Consult poll. It shows Kamala Harris has trimmed Donald Trump's advantage when it comes to the number one issue in this race, the economy. Bloomberg's Amy Morris has the details.

Speaker 5

This poll focused on swing states, showing Harris now leading among likely voters by seven percentage points in Nevada, five points in Pennsylvania, three in Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin, two points in North Carolina, and in Georgia. There even her leads are within the poll's statistical margin of error. Now, across the seven states, Harris is ahead by three percentage points among likely voters. That's a statistically significant lead. That's

about two points greater than last month. The poll underscores that this contest could be decided by the narrowest of margins or come down to a single state in the electoral college in Washington. Amy Moore as Bloomberg Radio.

Speaker 3

All right, Amy, thank you well. There's plenty of reaction pouring into our latest poll. Bill Ferries is a senior editor for Bloomberg News.

Speaker 6

The trend definitely breaking Harris's way so far, and one of the really interesting things about it is that she seems to be getting that momentum by chipping away at what has been Donald Trump's lead when it comes to voter's preference or voter's belief about who would handle the economy better. Overall, that is still an area where Donald Trump has a four point lead. That's down from six

points in our previous survey. But when you break it down further and look at some of those individual areas within the economy, you see that Harris now people trust her quite a bit when it comes to things like housing prices and dealing with personal debt, credit card debt type of issues.

Speaker 3

And that's Bloomberg's Bill Fairies, who says Harris also held an eleven point advantage on who like voters trust to help the middle class.

Speaker 4

Along with the presidential race, Karen, of course, we continue to follow the latest developments around the indictment of New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Sloomberg's John Tucker joins us with more on that.

Speaker 2

John, Good morning.

Speaker 7

Nathan Adams could make his initial court appearance today. He's scheduled to go before Judge Catherine Parker. He's charged with accepting illegal campaign contributions and free overseas trips from people looking to buy his influence in city government. The mayor responded outside Gracie Mansion just hours after federal agents searched his official residence.

Speaker 8

Everyone that knows, he knows.

Speaker 9

I've followed campaign through John, and I followed with more. That is how I love my life.

Speaker 7

The scathing indictment Alencha's Adams engaged in years of sustained corruption, accepting more than one hundred thousand dollars in lavish bribes from foreign nationals. Adams claims he's innocent. His lawyer says it's neither unusual nor improper for government officials to accept some travel perks. It's unclear whether the indictment is the

last word on federal investigations involving the Adams administration. Investigators have seized devices from the police commissioner, school's chancellor, two deputy mayors, at other trusted Adams confidants. The mayor vows to remain at office Governor Kathy Hocheld does have the power to remove Adams if you can't perform his duties while fighting the charges. In New York, I'm John Tucker Bloomberg Radio.

Speaker 3

All right, John, thank you. Now we want to get the latest from the Middle East. Israel maybe softening its stance on a ceasefire with Hesba Lah. Prime Minister Benjamin Atanyahu's office says Israel will take part in discussions on a three week truce proposal from the US and France. Whitehouse spokesman karringe On Pierre says those talks are already underway.

Speaker 1

Israel was aware.

Speaker 10

Of the statement, and now what I can tell you right now, we are having continued discussions that is happening with our teams in New York. And I'm not going to get into private diplomatic engagement, but I can assure you these conversations are continuing.

Speaker 3

White House spokeswoman Karine John Pierre says the goal of the talks is to allow residents on both sides of the Israel Lebanon border to return home. Israeli bombardment since Monday, I've left more than six hundred dead. Hesbela has responded with hundreds of rocket attacks.

Speaker 4

And now Karen Prime Minister Natan Yaho is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly today. We get that from Bloomberg's Ed Baxter.

Speaker 11

This comes as he is now saying that the military bombing of Hesbo Law targets and Lebanon will continue indefinitely. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says another full scale war would be devastating for both Israel and Lebanon. That Yahoo's address comes a day after Palestinian authority had Makmu de Boss said regarding Gaza, we will not leave.

Speaker 1

We will not leave.

Speaker 11

Ad Baxter, Bloomberg Radio.

Speaker 3

All right, and thank you. We want to turn to the markets now and stocks to sit in record a territory ahead of a key inflationary port later this morning. We get the Fed's preferred price metric, and Eric A Grad, chief economist at Alliance Bernstein, told Bloomberg's Tom Keen the Fed has done a good job.

Speaker 12

I do think that they deserve a lot of credit. And the inflation numbers that are coming out, as well as the ones that have come out over the summer and the ones that we expect going forward, suggests that they have done a good job of bringing inflation back under control, and as a result of that, You're right, it isn't as important going forward as it has been. The focus now is on the other side of the mandate, on the labor market side, rather than on the inflation side, and that's good news.

Speaker 3

Lion Spernstein's Eric Winnegrad says monthly headline PCEE inflation likely rose to one tens of up percent, compared to two tents the prior month.

Speaker 4

In Asia, Karen, China's long awaited stimulus filled a huge week for equities. The benchmark CSI three hundred index posted its biggest weekly gain since two thousand and eight. This week, officials pledged to increase fiscal support and stabilize the property sector to revive growth.

Speaker 3

Checking out some stocks and making news this morning, Nathan Bloomberg News has learned Arm Holdings approach to Intail about buying the chip maker's product division, only to be told that it wasn't for sale. Intel was once the world's largest chip maker, but it's become a targeted takeover speculation since its business rapidly deteriorated this year.

Speaker 4

Well, Karen, a merger maybe in the works in the satellite TV business. As Bloomberg's Doug Prisoner reports, DirecTV and Dish are in advanced talks.

Speaker 1

The deal would create the largest US PayTV provider, with nearly twenty million subscribers. We are told in agreement could be announced in the coming days. Now, these companies are still working through details on how the combination might be structured. We are told it will be closely held and DirecTV is in talks to control the entire entity. Past discussions

of a DirecTV Dish combination have faced antitrust concerns. However, the shift from PayTV to streaming has changed the competitive landscape and it could make the path easier this time. In New York, I'm Doug Prisoner, Bloomberg Radio.

Speaker 3

All right, Doug, thank you well. On the earnings front, shares of Costco, they're down more than one percent despite posting higher than expected off it in the latest quarter. The big box retailer said shopper traffic in the US increased from a year earlier, but shoppers spent slightly less per trip. Costco stock is up thirty seven percent so

far this year. First time. Now for a look at some of the other stories, making news in New York and around the world, and for that we're joined by Bloomberg's Michael Barr.

Speaker 8

Michael, good morning, Good morning Caaron. Hurricane Aline made landfall last night in Florida's Big Bend area. Elene is forecast to produced to renial rains, powerful winds, and life threatening storm surge. Bloomberg meteorologist Rob Carolyn has the latest.

Speaker 13

Helene is northeast of Valdosta, Georgia this morning, moving to the north northeast at about twenty five miles an hour. It will continue week in this morning, but it's going to produce significant damage due to wind and rain across portions of the southeast and eventually the Tennessee River Valley, parts of the southwestern mid Atlantic region as well. It went inland last night around eleven pm to the west

of Steinahachie, Florida, as a Category four hurricane. Sustained wins at that time for one hundred and forty miles an hour. We'll notice it becoming a strong tropical storm today as it weekends, moving inland and again some areas are going to end up with six to twelve inches of rainfall from this system as it continues to decay over the southeastern United States this weekend. I'm Rob Carolyn Bloomberg Radio.

Speaker 8

Thank you Rob. Florida Governor Ron Desentis.

Speaker 14

The state is ready as soon as this storm passes and it's safe to do so, to commence search and rescue operations. We have thirty five hundred National guardsmen standing by. We have our state guards standing by. We have state troopers standing by, and they will be active if need be.

Speaker 8

Georgia thirty said two people were killed and the possible tornado as a lean approached. Another person was killed in Florida. Donald Trump is set to meet today with Ukrainian President of Volodimir Zelensky, as tensions having rising between the two over how to defend the country in its war against Russia. The GOP presidential nominee is facing accusations from his Democratic opponent, Vice President Common Harris, that he is advocating for surrender.

Trump spoke about the meeting Thursday with reporters.

Speaker 11

As you know, President Zelensky is asked to meet with me, and I will be meeting with him tomorrow morning at around nine forty five in Trump Tower.

Speaker 6

And it's a shame what's happening in Ukraine.

Speaker 8

The meeting comes less than a day after Harris met with Zelensky and expressed unwavering support. New British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke at the UN General Assembly for the first time. Starmer says his nation is returning to responsible global leadership. The Labor Party leader won on an Alliance slide election victory in July. He went on to say the UK will lead again tackling climate change at home

and internationally. Global news twenty four hours a day and whenever you want it with Bloomberg News Now how Michael Barr, This is Bloomberg Karrent.

Speaker 3

All right, Michael Barr, thank you time now for the Bloomberg Sports update. But John stash Hour johns.

Speaker 9

Good morning, Karen. Giants and Cowboys at Metlie first ever Thursday road game for Dallas, who was coming off two straight home losses. But the Cowboys came in having beaten the Giants six straight times, thirteen to the last fourteen and after an early three to nothing Giants lead, the Cowboys led the rest of the way.

Speaker 11

Shotgun good, Blitz, pickup and Prescott.

Speaker 10

Down the outside.

Speaker 7

The Lamb put the tackle thirty.

Speaker 9

Five out runs, three men into the exude touchdowns cd lamb KRLD. After that play, no touchdowns for the last thirty eight minutes, but two Dallas field goals by Brandon Aubrey, including a sixty yarder four days after he had a sixty five yarder, and the Giants kept settling for Greg Joseph field goals. He had five, but there were no Giant tds and the Cowboys won twenty to fifteen to get to two and two. It leaves Big Blue at one en three For the Yankees, it's two Champagne celebrations

down and three to go. They sprayed the Bubby last week in Seattle after clinching a wild card. They did it again at the Stadium after a ten one rout of Baltimore that won them the Al East. They'll certainly spray with each playoff series win. Their first postseason opponent could well beat Baltimore last night's win due to the pitching of Garrett Cole six to the third scoreless innings in John Carlos Stanton with a home run and then a three run double and yes, Aaron Judge homeward again.

He's done it five games in a row, fifty eight on the season, so Judge, in his last two healthy seasons, has hit one hundred and twenty homers. Mets play tonight in Milwaukee. The Dodgers clinched the NLS, the Tigers and Royals moves closer to wrapping up al Wild Cards break up. The White Sox three wins in a row, raising their record to thirty nine and one hundred and twenty. Still, one more loss gives them the record for most losses ever. In Montreal, US swept all five four ball matches on

Speaker 4

With less than six weeks until the election, Kamala Harris holds a thin lead over Donald Trump in the seven states that will decide the election. That is according to our latest Bloomberg News Morning consult Paul. Here to break it down for us now is Gregory Cordy, White House and political correspondent for Bloomberg News. Gregory good morning. So how tight is this race now with thirty nine days to go?

Speaker 15

Morning Nathan, So yeah, this is a razor tight race. And so our Bloomberg News Morning console all of the seven swing states that are most likely to decide this election finds that Vice President Kamala Harris is at least tied or has slight leads in every one of these swing states. Tied in Georgia, and then up in two points in North Carolina, three points in Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, five points in Pennsylvania, and seven points in Nevada. Now we have to say those are every single one of

those are within the margin of error. But since they're all sort of on Harris's side of the ledger, you'd rather be in her position than Trump's right now. And she has been making some very slow momentum. These are all very small numbers, but at this point in the election, as close as this is, where this is what we're zeroing in on these very small numbers, and she has incremental leads here and that's fueled by voters beginning to trust her a little bit more on issues like the economy,

like inflation, like housing costs. As she's talked about these, not just in her campaign stops in the swing states, but she's bombarding these states with political ads, reinforcing these messages that she has a plan for the economy.

Speaker 4

Now, I know, we've been digging very deep when it comes to the economic issues in this poll. What are we seeing specifically when it comes to how Harris has been able to chip away at Trump's advantage on that key issue for likely voters.

Speaker 15

Yeah, she still trails Trump on the question of which candidate do you trust more on the economy by four percentage points. Voters trust Trump more. She also lags on immigration. That's why she's going to Arizona today. That's why she's going to the border to talk about immigration. She's really leaning into Trump's strengths and trying to make up ground there. She's always had a bit of an advantage on some of these other issues like housing, and then non economic

issues like abortion and democracy. Those have always been democratic strengths, going back to when Joe Biden was in the race. But she's really gone after Trump's strengths on these core economic issues. She's not always leading them. But one one that I'm I'm watching very closely is that voters now trust her on taxes more than they trust Donald Trump. That's pretty remarkable since taxation has always been a Republican strength.

She's turned the tables on that by talking about taxing billionaires and co opting some of Trump's ideas on no taxes on tips, and also offering a larger childcare tax credit than Trump is offering.

Speaker 4

Got about it left, And this poll comes in the context of a fifty basis point rate cut that we just got from the Federal Reserve.

Speaker 2

How does that factor into what voters are thinking.

Speaker 15

Yes, Swing state voters are very optimistic about that. They say by a parity, a good porality, that they expect things to get better for them in the next year because of that rate cut. They're not seeing it yet. You know, it takes a while for these kinds of things to percolate through the economy. You might not be in the market for a house, and so you might not be particularly interest rates sensitive. But we know that there are a lot of homeowners locked into their house.

They would move if they could, but they're they're waiting to see those those interest rates come down. Interest rates is an issue where Donald Trump still has an advantage, but again. If rates can continue to come down, that might be something that by election day is going to be to the benefit of comers.
