The Banker is the story of business partners Bernard Garrett and Joe Morris. Together, they owned more than 170 commercial and residential properties including one of the tallest structures in downtown Los Angeles in the 1950s and 1960s! Because of the times, they trained white men to be the face of the business. ⁣⠀
⁣⠀
They eventually purchased a bank in Texas with the goal of providing African Americans with car loans, mortgage loans, business loans and more. They wanted to create opportunities for African Americans who were routinely subjected to redlining, where banks denied them loans, relegating them to segregated and impoverished neighborhoods and limited income potential. ⁣⠀

They did it under those circumstances, so we can do it today if we work together!
