Episode description

On BIV Today....

From Amazon announcing 3,000 new jobs in Vancouver to B.C. companies and higher education institutes partnering on a supercluster initiative, the province is pushing hard to become the most innovative in Canada. But is it succeeding? Paul Preston (1:06) of the Conference Board of Canada has been examining various provinces and countries, and the think tank’s latest report card on innovation gives B.C. a D grade. He explains why.

Later, economist Ken Peacock (15:09) from the Business Council of B.C. discusses the fast pace at which the province’s manufacturing sector is growing — second only to Prince Edward Island. He recently authored a report examining the reasons why it’s punching above its weight as well as the challenges ahead.
