Episode description

Send us a text

Thanks to the work of MIT researcher Joy Buolamwini, we have further evidence that artificial intelligence programs (that are used in advertising, hiring, policing, etc) are as oppressive as the people that create them. We sat down with Shalini Kantayya, director of the documentary Coded Bias, which follows Joy on her quest for civil rights by creating the Algorithmic Justice League (now THAT's a superhero movie that needs to be made!). We discuss how and why Shalini made this film, and how the dangers of Big Brother watching us are far more disastrous than we ever imagined.

You can watch Coded Bias during SFFilm's DOC STORIES next month!
