Now let's continue, never stop. Great day to being an American. This Tuesday afternoon in the Tri State Red spaceball kicks off about six or five tonight. The Red Legs are in Yankee Stadium and the Yanks have blood in their eye. He goes of what happened in nineteen seventy six. They're so angry about that, and the Red swept, the Yankees won the world title, and so we'll see what happens to Paul O'Neill's monument is still in center field.
Glad we got rid of that guy, whatever happened to him. But nonetheless, jooning you nine Alis. Representative Adam Byrd, Birrd is the word. He's the sponsor of House build number one eighty three, which may not be fresh of mind to you, but what it is is the Transgender Bathroom Bill, which keeps boys and boys facilities and girls and girls facilities and more. It passed the House that may languish in the Senate. We'll see what
happens. But Representative Adam Byrd, welcome again to the bill. Cunningham showing before you're attacked by transgender activists on this issue, can you tell me why it's necessary to have a bill in Columbus that says boys have to shower with boys and girls have to shower with girls, and the Twains should not meet accept in the backseat of a drive in movie theater. So can you tell me why the bill is necessary? Willie? It's great to be on your
show today. It's an honor to be with you. And yes, I can tell you. You know, you're right. This wasn't a problem twenty years ago. It became a problem under the starting under the Obama administration. And so there are schools in Ohio that are getting sued because they're allowing boys into the girls' restroom. And then there's some schools that are getting sued for
not allowing boys into the girls' restrooms. And so, you know, this is a problem, and superintendents across the state of Ohio to ask me for this. We need to protect girls from assault, we need to protect girls from exposure. And you know, Bill, we should not be sitting on the sideline as a legislative body in Ohio allowing the federal Executive Branch to issue
their guide and they're rulings. You know, we should be weighing in and we shouldn't be sitting on the sideline waiting for the judicial branch to have something to say about this. So the elected legislature of the state of Ohio, we need to weigh in, and we have and we did in a very
overwhelming way this past week. Well, as you know, Title nine, which is the federal legislation that I thought was a wonderful thing which keeps women equal to men and girls equal to boys when it comes to funding of facilities. Title nine was reinterpreted about three weeks ago by the Biden administration to say that one's identity as far as sex is also part of Title nine. So until the federal courts about three days ago, said na Babanah, wait a
minute on this. The federal law was that if you identify as a female and you're a male, you have all the protections of the United States Department of Justice to make sure that you can shower with girls and or use their bathroom facility. Hardly the ever opposite, hardly ever happens, hardly ever to teenage girls want to go into the boys' locker room. It's always one way because of biology. And so the federal courts have put that on hold.
Temporarily, But one cannot of imagined fifty one years ago when the wisdom of the early nineteen seventies said, and you weren't even born yet, I don't think in the early nineteen seventies, Title nine it was slipped into a bill that kind of went through quickly, and then it was interpreted over the decades to mean that if you spend eighteen million dollars on men's sports at Ohio State, you got to spend a like wise amount on girls sports at Ohio State,
which is opening up the fantasy of good girl soccer and swimming, in tennis and golf, whatever it might be. So the idea was treat men and women, boys and girls equally when it comes to federal funding. But because of the Biden extreme administration, they're now saying that if you identify as a girl or identify as a woman, you have all the protections of the Department of Justice to make sure that in Mason High School or New Richmond,
the Home of the Lions. But by the way, I scored thirty eight points there my senior year, but I regress that you have to have all the if I identify as a woman and I've said this. At Kenwood Country Club, where I belong, they have women's tournaments. And I said to the head pro there, I said, I identify as a woman. He said, well, file a statement that you're a woman, will treat you like a woman. How ridiculous is that? Tell me why I'm getting fired
up and don't like what's going on. How does this affect Title nine? How does it make sure the girls and boys, men and women have separate equal facilities? Adam Bird, give me a full report. Now you got me fired up. Well, I'm glad to get you fired up, Willie. And this is an issue that does fire up Americans and fires up Ohiolands.
And it's why we as a General Assembly here in the state of Ohio, have passed a bill for prohibiting the gender mutilation surgery that is occurring in some places in Ohio and the phibots that happening anymore to those under the age of eighteen. We also passed a bill that would save women's sports and bill.
I don't know if you've heard this, but we're sending the women's Olympic team is sending a distance runner on their women's team who just was he was she was well, he was first place and a girl's distance event, and she's keeping he is keeping qualified girls from going into and representing the United States and the Olympics. That's outrageous. And so, you know, the other issue here is that girls don't want to talk about this because they're afraid to
cancel culture bill. They don't want to be canceled. They don't want to be condemned for this, and so it's up to us as legislators to take this flight forward for them. Two issues. I want to probe your mind on one. I'm ringing editorials in USA today that says persons like you, Adam Bird, State repped from New Richmond area, people like you want to encourage suicide by a transgender youth. Can you respond to your desires to kill
transgender youth? Billy? This bill is about protection. It's not about hating anybody. It's not about wanting anybody to commit suicide. And you know, are there stats that show that there's an increased amount of suicide amongst transgender population. Yes, that's true, Bill, but it's not because of because we won't accept them. It's because they've done what they've done to their body, and now they regret it to the point that they're willing to think suicidal thoughts
once they've cut off different parts of their body. Now they know it's irreversible, and that's when suicidal thoughts enter into the mind of a transgender person. One of the classic comments out of the British England's health system, which is ubiquitous. They cover you from birth the grave and every part in between, and they're a near collapse because of socialized medicine. They did a fifteen year study on transgender youth who went from girl to boy and boy to girl.
In fifteen years after the fact, there is no difference in suicide rate. In fact, it is worse when you get your twenties and thirties, because then the child turns toward the adult, child turns toward their parents and say, why didn't you protect me when I was making childish decisions? Why didn't
you protect me? And secondly, I want to share with you an editorial from the Inquirer a couple days ago, and you probably don't read it, but I do on occasion from a person identified as Carson Hartledge of Clifton, who says this last Wednesday night, June twenty sixth, I watched the Ohio House of Representatives that's you use their legislative sessions before summer break and passed a tactic to bully transgender and gender non conforming Ohio wins again. This bill regulates
which restrooms Ohio students can use at school. As a twenty six year old graduate student, I assume at U see, I find it absurd that my state government, that would be you, cares about this. More importantly, if this bill becomes law, it'll take the Senate to agree and the President governor as sign it, it will inflict real harm on transgender students, many of whom already face significant discrimination. Our government leaders, that would be you,
continue to try to make life difficult for trans Ohioans. But we're not gonna We're not going anywhere. I urged the Senate not to concur on this terrible piece of legislation. Since you're the sponsor, please respond to mister Carson Hartledge, I assume it's a man or a woman. Carson Hartledge of Clifton,
please respond, well, I reject that bill. That we're not out to hurt these these people that are in this situation, and we want to protect the bill, You wouldn't believe the stories that I've heard from people. I'm sorry, young girls who have talked about the times where they've been exposed in a in what they thought was the safe space. And no one's trying
to hurt transgender people. And you know that when House Bill sixty eight, the bill that prohibits transgender mutilation surgery from occurring in the state of Ohio under the age of eighteen, once that's been an impact for several years. This is not going to happen anymore. But the other thing that I would say in part of this bill, the bill that we passed, is that you
can have a single use restroom. You can have a single use restroom one at a time, restroom where boys can go in there, girls can go in there, families can go in there. And so single use one of the time restrooms are permissible, and colleges and universities can do this for for students that they think it's best. Secondly, I've always believed in parnal rights when it comes to medical procedures for their children. For example, there's some
religious sex sect that says that we don't believe in blood transfusions. Therefore, I think it's Jehovah witnesses. And then there's lawsuits filed that juvenile court judge w up in the middle and say, well, you have to have this. And so one argument was made to me that I have difficulty overcoming, which is this that if mom and dad desire to have the sixteen year old
go through hormonal treatment then transgender. Does the parents agree, the sixteen year old agrees, who, by the way, can't get a tattoo without the parent's consent. But nonetheless, so if the parents agree, and if the doctor agrees that this transgender treatment is necessary, and the hospital agrees, why would the state jump in when the student wants it over eighteen? I think
you agree with me. If you're twenty, twenty five or thirty, you want to go through this, that's on your side of the table, have at it. But nonetheless, if you're a child, the child wants the transgender treatment, the parents say it's okay with us, the doctor say it's medically necessary, the hospital says, yes, it's medically necessary. Hell Children's Hospital has a transgender clinic. And so the argument might be, Adam, why do you stand between the teenager, the parents, the doctor, and
the hospital. Why do you do that answer that question, well, we do not. As a state of Ohio let parents do a lot of things to their children. We don't allow parents to not send their kids to school, we don't allow parents to send their kids to a tanning boot, we don't allow parents to assault their child, and we don't allow parents to give their children illicit drugs. So there's a lot of things the government tells parents that they can't do, and this is an important thing to add to that
list. So it's not unusual for government to tell parents certain things when it comes to the raising of their children. Will the Senate pass it? And will Mike the Wine sign it? I am very grateful to have the comments that I read in the paper the other day that Mike the Wine said that he supports this bill. So now it's up to the Senate and we'll see what they do. They'll be back in session come November, and I encourage all of your listeners bill to reach out to their state senator and ask them
to support this bill. It needs their vote and the Senate needs their concurrence vote, and so yes, if we can get the Senate to go forward with this, Mike the wine has publicly announced that he will sign this bill. Secondly, marijuana is in the larch the citizens, and I supported it seven or eight months ago to give recreational marijuana to the citizens of Ohio.
The Senate's got a version, the House has a version. And here we are sitting in July, July second and the Tuesday afternoon, and there's no bill. Why Why can't you Republicans get your act together? Well that we are all over the place, there's no doubt about that bill, and we need we need hearings, and I think that's part of the problem. We have not had a lot of hearings. We've had a lot of negotiations behind closed doors, but we have to have hearings. We've got to hear from
the public. We've got to have a bill introduced, and so we've got to hear from proponents, we've got to hear from opponents, and we haven't done that. And I do think that that's an issue, and there probably is some concern among my colleagues that we don't want to go against the will of the people. The people just voted for issue too back in November, and so we don't want to look tone death by completely reversing what the people
have stated that they want. Isn't this you know, Republicans can't get a damn thing done when marijuana in the state of Ohio. I'm told a Bertie whisper to my ear that Speaker of the House, Jason Stevens is out. He was the speaker who had all the Democrats vote him to put him in power. That your Republicans are not happy. During the primary, Stevens ran a lot of ads against those who didn't want him in office. Who are
Republicans? Republicans fighting like cats and dogs with Republicans can't follow the will of the people, can't pass legislation. Do you support Jason Stevens as Speaker or not? Well, I think this is a pretty clear bill. I do not support him. I didn't vote for him before. I think that we need new Speaker of the House. And so that's one of the reasons that
I've lost my chairmanship. I used to be chair of Education Committee, and so that was taken away from me because I supported someone else to be the speaker. And so, you know, there are probably forty House members in the Ohio House that want to see a different speaker Unfortunately, all thirty two Democrats want to keep Jason Stevens right where he's got and so you know, he got the votes of all thirty two Democrats, and there's there's a small
group of Republicans that are still staying with him. But I believe Bill that we will have change, and it will come soon, might come real soon, It might come in January. But Ohio needs to have a as a speaker that it's elected by the majority of the majority party, and right now we don't have that. Completely dysfunctional. You have a super majority in the House and in the Senate, you have a Republican governor can't get things done
because they're Republican. Speaker relies upon the Democrats for his job. Then he cuts your legs out from under you for supporting the idea that Republicans should elect Republicans and not Democrats electing Republicans. We now have Democrats electing Republicans, Republicans cutting the legs off of Democrats supporting the Democrats and the Republicans. This is
screwed up. Representative Adam Hey Bill, Yeah, oh hell, you know, Speaker Stevens, he voted against adding my restroom Bill to the as an amendment to the bill that it eventually passed in he voted against it. Bill. This is screwed up. This is this is this is our speaker voted the table my bill and then he voted against adding it. And so I'm very discouraged that he did that. But but fortunately uh common sense for bail.
We protected our young children and it did end up passing. But you know, this is it was very surprising for me to see the Speaker of the House vote against my amendment. Well, it passed nonetheless, but and I have empathy for kids that have gender dysphoria. It's a thing encouraged by society and encouraged by social media, not to be traditional. And kids that have mental difficulties should get the help they need. But cutting off their coyonees
is not the way to get it done. And Representative Adam Byrd, thank you for coming on the Bill Cunningham Show. And I get it. I'm glad you have coyonis. Bill. I am very thankful to be on your show. And I got my serious doubts that you ever put thirty eight points on the New Richmond Lions. Back when you're in high school, I sat down on the fourth quarter because it was so bad. I have Tony Bender
send you the clippings of the greatness of the Great America. All right, Adam, you may have to meet at the Front Street Cafe and New Richmond to talk about this further. I love that place, all right, Adam, bird is the word. Thanks for coming on the Bill Cunningham Show, and please keep your coyonees. Thanks Bell, I appreciate it, love your show. I appreciate what you do for us. God bless America. Thank you very much. Let's continue with more. Your thoughts are next at SHOWMP
