We're at the Cincinnati Tax Resolution powered by Toke Sheldon Broadcast Area, live from the Holy Grail Banks. This is seven hundred when telling you the home of the Cincinnati Reds. Hilly Cunningham, the Great with Segment and Jeff Brantley. We're here at the host Rail. The crowd has packed, the sun is shining. Yeah, right with
the world. Jeff Brantley, It's a pleasure to have you here. In fact, you were watching every game in Arizona, every which way. Look in the eyes of these desperate Reds fans, you can see they're hungry for victory. They have not tasted victory since nineteen ninety five in a playoff game when you were on the team. It's Ben Shaw, we say, thirty four years as the Reds have won the World Series? Which may I make
one other statement before we go to you? Sure, between nineteen seventy five and nineteen ninety the Reds won twenty percent of all the World Series that were played. Since nineteen ninety it's spelled a little bit down. Things are up and good, but I sense in our conversations brighter days lie ahead. What do you see and what can can you tell these desperate Reds fans who need glory that this year's team is going to be better than last year's team and
better than the year before and better than the year before. What do you see that their prognosticators do not see? And finally, what is wrong with Hunter Green? Why isn't he starting answer one of those questions? Please? Well, let's start with the first new blood, new energy, new results. You asked me if I was ready, I ask you are you ready. They're hungry, They're hungry for Reds Baseball. They're starving. I'm hungry right with them. I'm excited about this group. I think they've got a
lot of talent on this club. We saw just a glimmer of that last year. Now they ran out of gas in September. Look, the tank is full. These guys are ready to play. This should be an awfully fun year. Segm Man's been quite negative as always. He's talking about TJ. Friedel, He's talking about Marte, He's talking about a but not doing the best. He's talking about McClean. McClain has hurt. Matt McClain maybe for the entire year, maybe one third of the starting lineup is not on
the field. But you still have hope. Why do you have hope? Well, I think when you start talking about all of those guys and you put them all in the same locker room, what ends up happening in the beginning of the season is it takes them a long time to get that timing down. But what what is happening now? Even though you have some injuries to some high energy players, you're getting guys that are gonna be in the
lineup every day and they're gonna get that timing down. I mean, there's nothing worse than having Jonathan India having to sit on the bench or not being able to play every day. He's back in his regular spot. I tell you what, he's got the ass. He's ready to play. He's passed off what you're saying. I think that's the kind of player that you want out there, is to prove a point, to say, hey, this is my spot. I deserve to be where I'm at. I was the
rookie of the year. Why would you take my position away? Now he's I mean, he is focused. Thank god that didn't trade India to Pakistan in the off season. Now about Dela Cruz, one thing I loved about Barry Larkin is that in the major leagues he wanted to learn Spanish. He said, a lot of the guys I'm playing with don't speak at the English. Dela Cruz went down to the dr got under the wing of Jose Blame
it on Rijo the guy speaking English now better than Joe Nuxhall ever. Ever, Ever, Dela Cruz tell the American people that are so hungry for glory, Dela Cruz, he can speak English. He speaks. I think he's gonna speak Swahili at some point. The guy speaks everything. How important is dela Cruz and why is he batting sixth? I think the reason that he's batting six is to take a little bit of air out of the balloon, so there's not so much pressure on him to carry this ball club. I
think that's unfair to a first year player. What I will say about de la Cruz when we got to spring training, the first thing that I noticed was a shorter stance, a shorter path to the baseball. He centered up the ball a lot more. He wasn't trying to hit the ball seven hundred feet. Look, there's not a seven hundred football in any ballpark that we play in. All you gotta do is hit at four hundred. He could do that in his sleep. So all he's done is shorten up a little
bit. He doesn't have that big high leg kick. He's barreling the ball with regularity. And to me, for a guy with that kind of talent, and then you add him the adrenaline of playing in front of these folks, he's gonna be afre all right. Turn things over to the segment this team will go as far as pitching will take it. Now Milwaukee Brewers are getting rid of all their pitchers. Saint Louis, believe it or not, stinks. The Cups are picked to win everything, and the Pittsburgh Pirates will
always be the Pittsburgh Pirates. You always compare the Reds against someone else. The Reds are picked to vent anywhere from first to fourth by the so called experts. Talk about Hunter Green. If somebody said to you in February, who's the Reds opening day pitcher? You would have said Hunter Green because he's got all the money, he's got the he got the jewels, he's got the cars without a window in it. But that's a different story. So
why isn't Hunter Green the starting pitcher for the Reds. Well, I think everybody has that expectation. When you're a number two in the country, you throw one hundred plus miles an hour, everybody throws it out there, says this should be automatic. He's still twenty three years old and still trying to learn the pitching acumen of the game. And in our game today, everybody hits velocity. So you've got to be able to locate that high velocity fastball.
Once he does that, I think he's going to take off quickly. Let me make one suggestion before I things over to the segment. As you know, was a great pitcher with Thomas Funeral Home. Here's to bury our opponents. I didn't have a lot of speed, but I had movement on the ball. What doesn't Hunter Green have moving on the ball? You're a pitcher, you're not a big guy, but nonetheless you had moving on the ball. Why don't Why doesn't Hunter Green move the ball? He needs moving
on the ball and location. He's got the velocity. Why doesn't have movement? I think a lot of guys would throw the ball as hard as he does, don't have that visual movement that you see the ball moving like you do some guys that throw in the lower nineties. I think for him it comes down more to location than it does specific movements. Some guys just throw the ball straight and but he throws the ball hard. That's not enough though,
That's not enough. Well, it is enough if he's located. Gott to locate the ball and throw the ball in the middle of the play segment. I two did I located with one and one? One? Two, three, four is one five? Tell Brentley what was one? The Express two? Lord Charles three knuckles, FOURDS, screwball five change of pace? You like that? I was just catcher. As long as it gets about I like anything. But sack Man asked a question that makes some sense.
Well, yeah, cowboy, you've been playing all over this country. What about what makes opening Day so special here in the Queens City. Look. I played in Saint Louis, I played in Texas, I played in Philadelphia, out in San Francisco, there is no Opening Day like this joint in Cincinnati Rocks. I walked out of the stadium that that road right there is filled all the way. Wall the wall. Don't even think you could get down there. This place is jamming. I mean, this is what Opening
Day is all about. And how does that make the players feel when they get out there and all of a sudden they see a packed house, They see people wanting to want to win and everything else. This is day one when it starts to count. I think it translates directly to the field. When when these folks come out to the ballpark like this, it makes all
the difference in the world for the players. Because your skin is tingling, your skin's crawling, your heart's beating out of your chest, and then that's what makes you put forth that last little bit of effort, especially when you're tired and you kind of run out of gas, and you are the gas that keeps them going. Jeff, I have some notes here. See my notes from last night. I do see that. I'm watching CMT Country music television, as you know, I like that. And player games lost.
In twenty twenty three, the Reds led the major leagues and games lost. They lost six hundred and fifty games to injury. Last year. We're starting off with seven guys on the DL. They've got a good start already, maybe twoy three hundred games. Why do the Reds have so many injuries? Playing baseball is not like soccer or football. On lacrosse, it's all like other games. You're running like crazy, banging into each other, and you
guys hardly ever touch anybody. How come players get hurt? Here's the list of them. There's another list of them. How's that possible? I think? I think when you play with a high bit of intensity, there there's a there's a general expectation that you're going to get hurt. And and these guys play hard. I think you're going to see a tremendous amount of stolen bases. You're going to see a lot of dives, a lot of excellent
plays. The one thing that I think that we have confidence in going into this year is you're not gonna have to pull guys from double A and A ball to come to the big leagues to be a starting pitcher. I think we've got that covered at least to this point. I mean, you you have five starting pitchers right now that I think are pretty good anyway, and you haven't even added Nick Lodolo or the likes of Connor Phillips, and both of those guys can f out pitch well, I'll tell you what the starting
lineup looks good. The fans are hungry for action. I think the Reds have sold over two million tickets off. We're all hungry, hungry, hungry for action. And it can't be more excitable to be in Cincinnati. Plus, Jim Scott, the Living Legend, completed the parade, which were very thankful for that. As you know, he contracted Luke Garritt's disease and Jim Scott's a great man. So when you get ready for the opening day game, announcing and the shoes of Joe Nuxall. Is it different than some other
game? You play a game again on Saturday? When you get ready for this game? What does Jeff Brantley do? Get up early, have some Montgomery in, slap down some unif What do you do you get ready? Well? I did have a little barbecue sauce on my eggs this morning. I will say, really, Barbaria. You know, we do things a little different where I'm from, as everybody knows. But I will say this, there's nothing better. And I was talking to Mark when I pulled into
the parking lot. There's nothing better than Opening Day. I'm I don't care how long you've played, or how long you've been around, And even when you're retired and you're you're sitting in a broadcasters booth chair, I still get nervous. I still get excited. And I mean that's what gets you to the ballpark. I mean, that's what makes it fun. Give me your prediction. Give me how many wins with the Reds have this year. Last year they went eighty two and eighty. I made some notes on this ninety
one. I'm not done with the question ninety one. I got the question ninety one, ninety one. What could I write down there? Ninety one That's what I said, ninety one. Unbelievable. Jeff Bradley, Thank you. Let's continue with more. Keep playing pickleball, Cowboy, kickleball. Don't get hurt, don't get hurt. Let's continue with more from the Grail.

All Right, ladies and gentlemen, we have now
the legendary Reds broadcaster. It is here, Marty Brenahan forty six years Marty, last night I got a bunch of questions for you to ask it, Billy, A lot of good questions, would you agree? Yeah, yeah, I'm sure there are questions I've never heard too. But you have gone. You went to Arizona to touch the hem of Reds Baseball. You'll rint the dugout. You're in the locker room, you're a throwing batting practice, in the strategy sessions, talking about the team inside and out, every which
direction. What look in the eyes of these desperate Reds fans? They're desperate right now for glory. Why do we have hope that this year's team is going to do what the seventy six Reds did won one hundred and two games, what the ninety ninety Reds did, who won ninety one game, got a shot, got a shot at that. Why do you think that's going to take place? Why is this team better, more exciting? We've waited for ten to twelve years to be exciting in the offseason to get ready for
Reds Opening Day. Well, right now they're not as good. They're not as good. Well, they got people hurt. You can't be going if you don't have Matt McLain. You got that and TJ. Friedel and all the rest of these guys who are nursing injuries. When they get those guys back, the biggest thing they've got to do now is pray to guy that the people that are going to be replacing these guys can get them through the first month of the season. In April, they play I think fourteen or
fifteen games against clubs on the West Coast. Oh, and that is really tough. They've got to get McLean healthy. They've got to get Freedo healthy. They've got to get Hunter Green pitching like Hunter Green should pitch and has it yet he's got the ability. Well we'll see. Why is any of the red starting pitcher right now because he's making all the money fifty or sixty
million dollars. Well, thank god, the people that make that decision didn't say, well, since you make the most money, you're going to pitch opening Day. That's not the way it works. So Montesa kind of earned it. Yeah, And I say, the guy that's pitching opening day to day Montas he earned it. It'll be his third opening day start, albeit the first one. Here. He knows what this is all about. And he's pitched well enough to be out on that mound today at four ten.
Let's look at the rest of thirty five thousand feet. Are you ready? I guess I am drink. In twenty twenty three, if the Reds lost six hundred and fifty player games six hundred and fifty in one season to lead the majors. This year, they're starting off strong. They're gonna have several players. Are you probably gonna miss one to two hundred games this year? I can't imagine. Why is it? You've been around a long time, used to come to the Reds games, and like a horse, you've been
around a long time. Why is baseball today dominated with so many injuries? I can't answer that question? Why can't you? You should have Tim Krimchek sitting in this chair, not me. I don't know. I have no idea. All I know is I talked to a couple of guys a few days ago, one of which were number fourteen on the telephone for an hour and he said, you know, he said, think back to seventy five and seventy six. You know what he buyed It has a serious injury.
I said. The only player, Don Gullett, was the only one. Don Gullett was the only one. Everybody else played, and they played hrs, didn't They play one hundred and sixty one hundred and sixty two games. The only time Bill Plumber played he was a back up to bench and the only time he played was second games, the doubleheaders. And those guys aren't as well tuned. Don't have the diet, they don't have the medical care,
they don't have the massages, they add none of that. Well, I think it's an industry problem right now, not particular to this club. I think I don't know what you do. I have no idea what you do, whether it's a medical approach or a philosophy that you feel secure and in conducting whatever needs to be done relative to keeping your players healthy. But I mean, I think it's an industry problem. I'm watching the ESPN last night getting ready for the season. The Dodgers have spent on two players over
one billion dollars. Then they sign up the catcher, they sign up the catcher, some shots are being administered in the crowd, and I don't mean by needles, but that's a different issue there. And they just signed up a catcher for like one hundred and twenty million. And what is the idea is? Can you buy a team? Because the experts are picking the padres to beet the But when you spend over a billion dollars for two players the Reds have, I think if one or two players signed past this season,
what does that say about the game of baseball. What it says is you can predict all you want to based on how much money a team plays. But that's why they play one hundred and sixty two games. It makes no damn difference if you say the Dodgers, who is shoe in because they spent more money than anybody? Go out and play the game. Let's see if they're the best team. And Milwaukee's taking apart their roster. The starting pitching
is gone, the reliever's gone. Milwaukee's going down tubes. Saint Louis, thank god, I can't imagine those boys are rising. Pittsburgh is going to be Pittsburgh. The Cubs have gotten better in fact, the only team that's gotten better other than the Reds and the division is the Cuts. I think that. I think if you had the Cardinal people up here, they say, no, we're better. I don't believe that, because they're gonna feel the pangs of having maybe the oldest team in the National League Central. They
got a bunch of old guys on that club. They've got to go out and do it for six months. This is the most winnable division there is in baseball, I think, because there's no overpoweringly dominant team in this division. In fact, I think to win this division you can probably win eighty eight to naughty games and win the division. What does the Hall of Famer miss? You spent forty six years in the game? Perfect timing gone out in October of twenty nineteen, just before all hell broke lose. What does
the Hall of Famer miss? If anything about baseball? Then I'm going to turn you over to the segment here in a moment. I got one more question after this one? What do you miss about baseball? Do you miss the grind? Do you miss the travel, the fan fan locker? You missed the fan ban do you miss the banana phone? What do you miss about rex Baseball? I miss the people, the people. I don't miss the game. You don't miss the game. My wife said to me the
other day. Am other said, why did you even retire? Because of all the other stuff I've got going on here in Cincinnati. Even though I'm four years removed from the broadcast mood, I retired from the thing I wanted to retire from, and that's broadcasting day. Forty six years is long enough. I mean, nobody enjoyed it more than I did. But at the same time, when I saw Joe retire, Joe waited too long to retire, and there were things that Joe wanted to do that he could not do
physically when he retired. And I said, that ain't gonna happen to me. And I walked five miles a day. I don't have any health issues. I'll be eighty two in July, and I'm hooked up with Tri State Men's Health. I want to talk to you about I want to talk ya mana about that a man is not a man has got thumbs up. Tracy Jones is out of shape. Some guy said, is that true? That's exactly right. Tell me about Try State Men's Health. What's it meant your
life? Marron Chatty's arithmetic. I got you. You gotta be and you promise your money back if you don't leave where we've got to be in save harbor and say that if you don't, if you don't leave there, if you don't leave their offices, and Charlie say, good shape, you get your money back. I mean, if you're laying on your side, you look like a pump tent. For God's sakes, you said that. I didn't I know a pup tent. But a man is over there smiling.
She is shy's look at that wink. But other than other than that, Tri State Men's Health, what are you doing at night? This is a highlight of my day. Do you ever watch a ball game at night? By you're too busy a Tri State Men's Health. Wait a minute, you want your ball. I'm gonna change your subject. You matter change something. The second best day game being played today, after this one across the street, is at nine thirty nine tonight, when Carolina and Alabama getting going.
That's Carolina and Alabama. Where the world is a BBN by the way, Oh that's right, they got their ass kipped into the second game, where we go, You ain't live in Cincinnati, but you still love and respect Carolina. I certainly do. I went to school there. Why would I not, seg Man, the Hall of Famer is yours for the next thirty seconds. Sounds like he's already taking my medication. What about fifty years ago you walked in that place, they picked your name out of the bag of
tapes or whatever. Fifty years ago today you called your first game with the Cincinnati Reds. That's correct. I mean, you do realize you look back on that. I mean and then seven fourteen home run with Hank Aaron, Yes, I say, with Joe four batters in, And when we finally ended the inning and we're in a commercial break, and Joe turned to me, where Bill's sitting there, I'm sitting here at Joe's are. Joe said, what the hell do you do for an encore? I said, I
don't know. I have no idea bought him in the first I think Billingham was on the mount hit a three run homer, and he's Jack Billingham and his wife Joe Lee are dear friends of Amanda in mine. We we love them to death. But every now and then, when he and I together, I stick the needle in and I said, let me ask you a questions. You fell behind the Henry Aaron three balls in one strike, and you're you try to throw that weak ass fastball by him, and then he
hits it over the left field fence for a whole run. I said, what the hell's that all about? Jack and I are dear friends. All right, Well, Marty, congratulations, look forward to taking thank you to al Michaels. Thank you, Marty Brendan. And it don't get much better than that. Tommy Thrall, Jeff Brantley once again Hall of Famer. Good luck tonight with a man. And by the way, God, thank you. I don't need any luck anymore. You need no luck. I let's

Billy Cunningham, the Great America with me now is the executive Vice president or Cincinnati Res Karen Forgus Karen Kraft welcome again to the Bill Cunningham Show. And Karen, let's say you're a long loving Reds baseball fan, and other than Red's Opening Day, you're gonna have to come up with three or four dates. Make sure you come to watch
the Reds. You're in charge of all business operations. You taught Phil Castelani everything. He knows. What three events do you think a long glory field redsman should want to go see this twenty twenty four season. Okay, I think people need to. You know, time is precious, right, so I believe it or not, I'm going to tell you Saturday, even if you don't come to the game, come at noon down to the ballpark because we're going to have a parade of all the players Saturday. This Saturday is
the player parade on the red carpet. You don't need a ticket. It's out on the street for the game. The games at four ten, and yeah, there are some seats available because that's kids opening Day. We replicate Opening Day, but kids style. But the key is at noon again, four hours before the game. We lay carpet out here across the banks and the players come out. Nobody needs a ticket and the players in their white uniforms, all of them. They all march the carpet, wave, talk
to the kids, hand out stuff. It's it's really one of those days where that's how you make Saturday. Plenty of tickets. Yeah, and the games at four, but the parades at noon, and no one needs a ticket for the parade. And you know nice hats. Yeah, exactly, a great and it's that's supposed to be a kid's size. Seg what does that mean? Yes, you're a kid at heart. So I go to
the website. It's called Kids Kids Opening Days. So I would say that's one you absolutely can go to Karen's grandparents, bring your kids, go online, get the tickets and look at a hat segment loves the hat. Not give me Easter Sunday, right, okay? And then yeah, well that's Saturday. Say but Sunday, Saturday, it's Holy Saturdays. He's said, good Friday he does he eats only meat on Friday. He tells me, no fish. So I got that Saturday. Okay, Now what the other
ones? I'm gonna tell you, believe it or not early because we're gonna do a bobblehead on the Saturday and a Sunday their first two of the year, and they are collectibles because we're doing seven bobbleheads and all the guys are in the city connect so April six and seven, and that's coming up. And the reason I say those is because the bobbleheads are epic. And the first one is Jake Frayley and he is wearing the Viking helmet with the removable
cape. It is so good. Are they going to use that this year again? Well, I don't know, but I do know that at the end of last year they asked us to repair a horn. One of the horns was broken, and then they let us have it at Redsfest on display. That didn't want to be messing with it, and they wanted us to be able to identify where it was should they decide they wanted to use it again. All right, So we'll have to see how today goes. I
really don't know. I'd like them to get behind today, not do well. Come back in the eighth, score a couple and then of the ninth have a walk off home run, Get out the cake, get out the horn, Away you go. So April sixth and seventh or two bobbleheads, those would yeah, those would be the days I would tell you are really good. Those three I would do those right away because every month there's something
and you know, it's about time, like right now. Most people don't know what they're doing in the middle of June, right, so you can decide to go to a Reds game based on when they're home. Because the cool thing about this new you know, you play every team every year. We got Otani coming here, I mean, Otani's coming to Great American Ballpark? Is it sold out yet? I think it might be. It's it was like teetering, I know, I bet you it's gonna to be sold
out well. And the interest from the Japanese markets and you know the Dodgers. The Dodgers sold enough in sponsor dollars out of Japan to cover his salary. Oh right, I've read that. I was on Buster last night. It's unbelieved seventy million dollars. Yeah, it's it pays for itself. The Angels never properly marketed him well. And you know, some of the changes in the game they made are brilliant. You know that that pit the pitch clock, don't you love it? Yeah? I mean, my gosh,
part thirty minutes off the game. There's so much more action, no more shift all the and then every year, what did you say, shift, shift, shift on? I thought I heard something else, but Otani? Is he coming? When so Tawny coming? Yeah, Dodgers are coming in June. I think it's June twentieth. Say he's got the schedule, do you what is it? Get the tickets early? Yeah, June or May. That's Indianapolis five hundred weekend, a Cincinnati weekend week Yeah, there you
go. Yeah, you got part. So lots going on, and you know, it's just fun. Our job is to make sure this city's proud. And you know what I've been. I was all the way after the parade started, all the way in the middle of the parade, all the way back down here, got here at five fifteen this morning. The city is proud. Fine, do you know what? It's just proud. Everybody's proud to just be out and about the game. Is one of the things
happening because opening day transcends a four to ten start. First, you know caring Ford, but after that it's about the reds. All segment deals with this division, each other's throats. Republican Democrats. You got Trump, you got Biden, I got a fighting city council, you got the stadium issue with pay. The Reds kind of washed that out. And I don't care who you are, even if you're a Democrat or liberal Democrat, progressive. You want to be a Reds fan. You're a conservative Republican, you want
to be a Red don't care about politics. You want to You're on TikTok all the time. You want to be a Reds fan. And when you walk around out here right now, it's look at the ages of people out there. No old people like Marty Brennan or segment. No old folks are out there. You know. In the Nike City Connect jerseys that we came out with last year, we started developing those of twenty twenty one, and so they are the right look for this next generation of baseball fans. It's
just part of the mix. Merchandise wise, it was almost forty percent of our sales last year when we kind of memorialized the word Sincy on people's chest and we took the wishbone ce for the first time since the fifties and created a new look of a primary mark. And so that to your point. You can't just rest on your laurels and you become a museum. You've got to be about today and what's next. I'm listening, so we are what's next. Some of the stuff in that museum is like, oh my,
John Cooper's frown and it's the best baseball museum in the country. Bar Nun, bar Nunn. And you know the exhibit this year, it's going to bring back all of these long ball hitters, you know, go in there, all the long ball hitters of recent history. It's gonna be fine. The most important home right ever hit, though, was Tony Perez nineteen seventy five to win the World Series. Jay Bruce, that was important, Johnny,
September twenty eight, twenty ten. And you're right. That actually kind of was the you know when you pull the lawnmower and it finally turns over. Because they bought the team in os, that was really the spark plug that got it back into being and connected to it being competitive and championship level.
So that's an important one. But I agree with you. I watched that Tony Perez one did my goodness, and the big red machine in George Foster is going to be here today taking the game ball out of there. They're great Number fifteen. Hey, Kendon, Red's compete against teams like the Dodgers, who spend a billion dollars for two players. You gotta be scrappy. First of all. With live sports, anything can happen, yep, because on any one day somebody could be outperforming, just like in golf.
You know, you can just be in the zone. I think that's part of what's going to help us do that. And other than that, you're right because going into the season, the odds are against us on payroll across the board, but they were last year. And so that's why we have running clinic or we have speed running clinic. Every day. Those guys are all learning how to steal bases. I mean, the things we were doing last year. That makes you scrappy. We got to be very scrappy.
And I I saw some video this morning of the Diamond Club is believe and what you and what you did for Rob Butcher when he as he was as he is retired from the media relations director extraordinary that he is uh and and to honor him is to put the name on the interview room was great. I thought that was a That was a class move for a class gentleman. Well, I agree with you there, and we decided Rob's legacy. Rob Butcher always had the players backs, right, he was about the players in
the clubhouse. So that's what we mean when we went ahead and put his first name on it, because you know, if you fast forward twenty years from now, when somebody's going to go to the Butcher room, it sounds very scary, sounds like you want to butcher. I don't want to go now. And I've already kind of heard it referred to as the Butcher So we'll see. Okay here what I'm san, we'll see. But I'm glad that you like that. Say he deserves Karen Ferguson, Yes, Baseball Operation,
those are listening. This coming Saturday is a big day, big day because the kids and then also the babble heads. Yeah, and also Tani yep, and I bet he gets strike sting. He struck out four times. Oh, I hope you're right. Oh, Tani, I think he's overrated. I hope you're right. And you know what, he's got his head's got to get back in the game because he's had other problems. He got himself in some hot water. I don't believe what they're saying. It's
a different issue. But yeah, no, what segment could afford to lose four point five million and not missing at all? Okay, did you know Shaquille O'Neill's coming as a DJ this year? Tell me about that DJ deal? Saturday, August thirty one. Now here's a question that size twenty two shoes, big fleet, big feet. Can Marty land in? You think he'll fit in? Yes, you're gonna have Shaquille if Ruby gonna make one at the restaurant, probably, Okay, Shaquil Leo is gonna be rapping in
the Great American Vault. Oh, that game is like selling like wildfire. How does he rap it? You know what he did doing Launch? He he did some games and they sold out people. Everybody stayed because it's Shaquille O'Neal. I love that guy. Last night, it's gonna be NBA on TNT is the best. It's gonna be a hot Saturday, and it's gonna be fun by Karen Ford. Good luck Business Operations, it's space Posty's good hands. We cannot do any of this without WLW. The big signal of
the big one and the capable hands of one. No other person like Dave Ya the armbrewster. Heave. Dave's the best company. I'm telling you, that is an artisan. We are lucky to have them. And I'm glad Bob did not rename the stadium the Great American If Phil honored to have a stadium named after me, you know what I'm saying. Well, we got a spot for your statue out there, ok. Fair, Yeah, that'll be a surprise. It'll be a surprise. It'll be great. Unfortunately,
it's gonna be made of ice, so I don't know. Lasted about twenty four hours, but it'll be good for a while. All right, Karen Fogus, thank you very much. All Right, sick man,
we have one of the three great fourteens and Cincinnati sports history. The first one was Oscar Robertson, who was twelve, number twelve at u See where he won three consecutive Player of the Year awards. But then we went
to the Royals. He took number fourteen his second grade fourteen nineteen sixty three, when Peter Edward Rose from uh West Colts High School, the hit King got a trip Bob friend who was pitching, as you know, for the Pirates, right, and that was in April of nineteen sixty three, yes, but next to us, here is the other great fourteen, the pride of Augustana College, Ken Anderson. How about a hand for Ken Anderson, the newest member of the National Quarterback Club. Talking as a matter of fact,
Ken Anderson, what the National Quarterback Club? Yep, they inducted me into the Hall of Fame, a company belonging to football Hall of Fame. Well, that's a quarterbacks are football, That's that's true. Yeah, So I thought that I was very nice. I was very proud of that and joined a lot of great guys that already inducted. Now, did you pick the number fourteen because of Pete Rose, Roscar Robertson or just it was handed
to you? It was handed to me. Now that's the number I warn't college, and you know when I showed up, you know, that's what Tom Gray gave me. Of course they had to cut Sam Waitch to give me fourteen because he had worn that before me. Sam Weiss, that guy was hilarious. Oh he was great. He was a great guy, and you weren't. With Pride. I had discussions earlier with Marty Brownahan and others
about injuries. Now, when you played football, I can recall that you had a wide receiver had his head turned sideways, kind of like beetlejuice. In those days in football, guess what, there were no injuries. You guys chewed things off. If you had a broken ankle, you chewed your leg off below the knee. And today with the baseball players, they're constantly hurt. Have you noticed the change and injuries when it comes to sports today?
Oh? I don't know. I think there's always been injuries. I mean, you know, I broke my hand on a helmet in nineteen seventy eight, I guess it was, and miss four games and got my head turned around against Pittsburgh at eighty three and that didn't look good. No, and missed a month, and I had a knee thing that you know, miss times. I mean, I think you know that's in any athletics, whether it's high school, college or the pros, there's going to be injuries.
You know, Joe Burrow, are you schooling him at all? Because he came to the Great American Ballpark and Joe Burrow hit home runs? And do you two talking all? You and Joe Burrow? You ought to pick your mind for the great issues in the Great Divide oh no, No, we talked some. You know, I see him down in the locker room a little bit. I know who you are. Oh yes, oh yes, yes. He treats me with a lot of respect. I got a lot of respect for him. Who's been, you know, very nice to
me. But you know, I played baseball growing up. I want Augus Dan was going to play baseball there and football kind of got in the way. And I started on the football team as a freshman on the varsity, and then I turned to basketball, started on the varsity as a freshman, and by the time baseball came around, I was a little tired of didn't play, so I was I was a catcher and I always told Bench, if I'd have played baseball, they may never heard of him. Yeah,
Bench, because you would have taken a job away from Johnny Bench. Is that correct? Well, you never know, you never know, and tell you to tell it right, seg Man, you have a question for the great number fourteen, Ken Anderson. You got to see this out here today. I mean you've been here opening days like this. I mean it's just
one of the greatest days in all of Cincinnati in a year. Well, it is so unique, and I think that just shows what great fans we have in Cincinnati, and you know, for the Reds, for the Bengals, you know, for FC Cincinnati. I mean they sell out every game. And I was just thinking, you know, if this is like this for Opening Day, can you imagine what it's gonna be like when the Bengals have a Super Bowl parade and sang Super Bowl Parade? Oh ah, you'll
have to get down there tomorrow. Well, I think I think that, you know, and you know, now I like our team and as long as Joe stays healthy, as he said, that window is always open. As long as heason. The city throws super Bowl parades for losers. When they lost to Super Bowl, we had a Super Bowl parade. Can you imagine if they won? Oh? I know it. Well, I wasn't at the first one because I went right to the Pro Bowl, So I missed out on that parade. Ken Anderson, pleasure to have you here.
You got some knee problems right here. Well, I got a little surgery coming up, you know, just too many years on AstroTurf. Let's continue with mart Phil Cunning into the segment. My speech is coming up on news radio seven hund WLW. Is there a special time you like to listen to Sconsloan. I like to listen while I'm eating waffles. Yeah, it sounds like fun. I listen when I'm feeling down. Sloaney always parks me up and now we tell OK. I like to listen when I'm painting my nails.
I never would have thought of that. I like to listen while I'm fishing. Ope, I'm not try that. I always listen during my pelvic exam. Me too. I guess anytime is the right time for Sloaney. That's what we've been saying. Tomorrow morning at nine on seven hundred WLW, and check out his podcast on the free iHeartRadio app. If your GP or truck needs it high Lift off Road does it?
