Hello and welcome to Big Gay Energy. I'm Caitlin. And I'm Fiora. Come along with us while we dive into the fun and nuances of queer media. Representation matters. And we're here to talk about it. Hi, I'm Caitlin from the Big Gay Energy podcast. Thank you so much for chatting with me today. Thanks for. Having us. Hey, how you doing? So you get started. Let's talk about something that I'm sure everybody is asking you. What was it like stepping back into these roles?
Cold, hard nipples. It was it was. It was just the warmest hug. It was like, you know, it's because when you step back into the role, you step back into the world. And when you step back into the world, you step back into Emily's brain, you step back into jinx Dolly grip, you step back into like, you know, the homestead, you step back into the coal. And it's all of those pieces that really make us who we are
as characters. And, and all of those pieces are so exciting and, and we miss them so much. So it was exciting. So now something I know no one has asked you yet. So on our podcast, we rate everything on the Lesbian Jesus hydration scale because media, because media with queer representation like. Water. Is essential for health. And well. Being so, how much do we all need to hydrate for lesbian Jesus while watching Winona earp vengeance? OK, so I'm not great at science
and. Everybody it's using gay science. It's very accurate. OK. And also I don't drink much water, so I don't know. I know how to answer this Tim. I think, I think it's like you're hiking, not running Canyon like one of the big California hikes people do. I see them do on the old Instagram stuff and, and, and they've got a backpack with a, with a, with a. It's got like a a yeah, the. 2. Full of water, like that whole backpack is full of of of of the of the water.
It's like it's, it's, it's whatever that thing. How? Many liters would there be about. 5 is a gallon like a truck or would it fit in the ball pack? You're you're working with like 2 to 3 liters as a as a good. Yeah, so the, the backpack like, and it's a big, it's a big hiking backpack like this guy's like this, this, this, this person wearing this backpack is like an influencer, like they, they're looking for views. And, you know, they're hydrated. Yeah, yeah.
You have to be if you're doing it for influencing reasons, right? Yeah. I mean, it's important for us all to be hydrated. We also give out the Big Gay Energy Award, and this is given to something that exudes Big Gay Energy. So from the original series, what do you think? It's the Big Gay Energy award. Well, from the original series. Yeah, I mean, unless there's something coming up that would get it. Well, I don't think we're allowed to talk. About that, you're not you're.
Not a gay energy award. I mean, wouldn't it? I mean let's go OG and go to like the tap exploding on. Oh yeah. I think I know, Tim. What do you find? Stairs. I mean, it's so you could just mention stairs. They could show a picture of a stairway. An entire fandom will go crazy, get giggly, laugh. You'll be exactly what you're talking about.
And if you show stairs to anybody else, they're just like, cool a stairs because they, you know, they don't understand the big gay energy coming off those stairs. Yeah. That is a very, very valid answer. How have your characters evolved since the original series? It's a tough one. I don't think of Winona and evolving and the same studies very often, but I think, well, is it?
I think for Winona, it's all it's about being brave enough to choose love, even if it's scary and even if it's always been something that she I don't know if she necessarily believed in it or felt worthy of it, but I think now she's she's like, all right, I'm doing this for better or for worse, so to speak. She's she's choosing it and and not running from it like she usually would. What?
About you, Tim. Yeah, I think it's one of those things where it's just, it's, it's kind of like maybe it's time for like the old ways to die, you know, just like the old way of thinking. And he came out and he was just a oh, boy guide from the 1800s and, you know, from where he's
gone to then. And he's realized like maybe that way and his way of thinking and his way of being, it's got to go, you know, it's had its place and for him and for for the world that he lives in and for everything and that it's he's, he's, he needs to just grow. And then for me, I think the best part is just like the wine owner herb, make your peace. That's what it's about.
I think John Henry's made his peace, you know, over The Four Seasons and and then, you know, with the special for sure, he's made peace within his, his spirit and his and his and his being and. Yeah, that's beautiful. What were some of the most memorable moments while filming Vengeance? Nice try. I didn't mean on screen, maybe off screen. I always like going for dinner with Tim and Pauli Sima. Thinking about the dinners we had were great.
Yeah, we always, we, I don't know how it started, but we just started going out for a very specific meal and it's just what we do. And it's a nice, comforting like thing at the end of a long week. What else? It was so fast like I barely remember. It was so fast, it was so fresh. I'll say this and it and I don't think this is a spoiler. One of my favorite moments this time was watching Andrew Bushel, who plays a new character on the
show. Watch him come into the world for the post and the and the first day that he was there was a day that I think the four of us were in a scene already together. Had to kind of watch this, this young actor just realized what is this wild, crazy show. And these people were all wild and crazy just having a blast together. It was great. And also to know just like any guest star we have there, that they're always just like, this show's amazing.
You guys are awesome, amazing. Like that always feels amazing. But to watch a new actor on the first day doing their stuff and just watching them, they got to go for it because you can't fake it on a show. Like why no, no where, You know what I mean? Like the stakes are so real. But if you look at it on paper, it's an undead vampire. And you know what I mean? Like, but you got to believe it. And you it's fun to watch actors, new actors come into our
into our show. It's a really good one. Great. OK, so we can't end this without talking about the Erpers. The Erper community is incredibly passionate. How does that fan support continue to influence your work? Well, you know, like I've said this before, but like when when I got the call that we were coming back, I thought of the Earpers before I thought of myself. And that's the first time I've ever got a call for a job where I wasn't like, yes, I got a job.
Like I literally thought, Oh my God, there's going to be so many happy people forget about me. Like I didn't even come into my like it was the first thought I had was like, holy shit, how happy are the Earpers going to be? Like they deserve this so much. This is the best thing ever to be the best. So yeah, there was that. I'm indebted to all these people over so many. It's like a decade now with meeting amazing people, and they always leave me feeling the same way.
Just kind of. I want to be a better version of myself. Yeah, I, I recently went to Vegas for a Star Trek convention. It was my first one. And there were a couple people at a previous convention, Erpers and that were like gonna be there. And I was like, Oh my gosh, Because I was like, I might have two people in my line and they're gonna be you. And the number of Erpers that showed up, Well, they made they made a sign, Marley.
Anyway, they made a sign that that they left on my table and I had QR code and they were like, if you love capital guitar, watch the and then there was a QR code that linked going on it. And just just in terms of like how, how has their support continued? It's like they followed me to other things. So I felt less lonely and like Star Trek is a big universe that is daunting and it's easy to feel like irrelevant there, you know, just because there's so
much of it that already exists. And also I'm an insecure person. So, so it's easy to feel irrelevant everywhere and to have earper's there to be like, we're here and we've got you. And and I think it was, I think I cried. It was it was a very emotional experience just because I was like, Oh my God, you meant it when you said you'd stay. You stay and know a lot of people like that in life.
Yeah, I'm very proud to call myself an earper, and I know that we're all rooting for you, both of you, everybody in the Winona Herp world. And with that, we've been big gay energy.
