Hello and welcome to Big Gay energy. I'm Bree. I'm Fiora and I'm Caitlin come along with us while we dive into the fun and nuances of queer media representation matters. And we're here to talk about it. What weeks like a countdown? Yeah, all right. Sorry, you'll fit right in here. Apparently, welcome back everyone. As you know, we like to highlight the hard work and dedication of crew members that work behind the scenes and sometimes in scenes of the media

we cover. Well, today we have the honor of speaking with Cuoco, huson, stop. The supervisor for Or Warrior none. Thank you for hanging out with us today. Thank you very much to bite me a pleasure. All right. And now for the first question, what is your job, entail, assistant supervisor? So this time supervisor is the you know, the stance man. So I'm taking care of all the soap.

So I have a stunt coordinator that take care of the set and I'm prepared all the meetings and everything to be sure that all is safe. So yeah, that's my job. It's awesome. And how did you get started working in stunts in the entertainment industry? Well, I'm very old so maybe 27 years ago I started go sighs. I came from the from climbing and Albanese and I start to do jobs with ropes and In the beginning of the Spanish industry with TV shows and movies.

It's really cool. That is awesome. We've talked to a fight coordinator on a show before and so I'm just curious. How does like stunts supervisors. Don't coordinator differ from like the fight coordination. Yeah, they fight gun, the racer. The fight coordinator is the guy that prepare all the fights. So he's like the stand coordinator. Prepare the fights and the Stag coordinator. Do they call raffy's training with the actors and prepare everything? That's it.

So yeah it's like Stan supervisor. It's not coordinator and fight coordinator. Okay, okay that makes sense. Yeah, um, what is the biggest misconception about stunts? Something that people think is true but it isn't to do you think I think that horrible establishes when you are not prepared to do it because sometimes you need to do something that you are not

prepared. Because all the people think that the stance is like crazy people doing crazy things, and maybe years ago, is maybe it's like this, but now we are preparing every single piece that we are doing on set. so yeah, we need to prepare everything because The a small clean. Always Safety First, you know, you never know that a small the other day we did amazing hit with a motorbike with a desktop is a system that you have a wire

connected to an anchor point. And Stan woman lands on a small pieces between two paths. So it's very difficult to take the control of everything. Yeah. Yeah. That's like a very precise. So yeah, I see the planning would be Paramount. Yeah, So we're big fans of warrior none. So, thank you for that and making it so cool. There were so many amazing stunts that went on in that show. Do you have a favorite from

Warrior known? A favorite stud space people because there are a lot of fights and there are a lot of characters during the fight. So but for sure maybe I can say that for me the Address fights are awesome. Yes, and especially so good. Did you see me? She killed me. Break my face against a wall. Oh my gosh. That's so cool. Now get out of girls Lilith I let Miller Camilla is amazing with the weapons. Incredible is a amazing character but Dora window that appears.

Yes It's a motherfucker. Yes you can say whatever you like yeah it's amazing. Yeah yeah absolutely correct that has had an amazing fighting this. CSUN. So let's see what happens is on dream. Yeah. Yes, please. We desperately want to get season 3? Well now I think we need to clarify. Do you actually know something or is that just you like saying like we're going to get a season 3 like you want? Hopefully. Okay. Okay, we'll go with that. They're fun zone. He's very happy with the with

the results. So I think it is Is that grew up of the season 14 system to? Yeah, especially my team in the second season. I had an amazing team working together the abolition of the actors in the fight is incredible. So yeah, yeah. Yeah. You guys really stepped it up season 2. It was freaking amazing. We just couldn't say enough about the stunts this season.

Yeah, thank you. Yeah, like literally, If we want we were we had the pleasure of being able to watch the season two together and after the first episode ends with like that big Lilith fight scene and the dungeon and we were just like speechless after watch where it was just like I can't it's so like yeah. You guys really stepped it up. I yeah, me sweetly, yeah, flying. Is absolutely amazing. Is one thing you don't have guts so well, wow, nice. That's that's awesome.

Amazing So we've got to talk to a few people from Warrior nun and we've noticed that some of the actors have martial arts training already. Did this influence the stunts that they were given? So good. Sorry. So a lot of the actors have like some training in fighting already. Did that affect any of the stunts that they were given, did you maybe give them harder things?

Yeah because they are. Yeah if you have a training martial arts but guy from check the fight coordinator and lick one the stunt coordinator did an amazing job training with Within my didn't? They did several hours of training. They did training with this ab12 reality with goggles with my formula. Wow, that's so cool. It is really cool. Are you able to talk to you about that? Oh, it's a secret. Is it to see what? Maybe they'll be back. Hi, hey. She's right. That's so cool though.

Oh yeah, I think we should all do that at the end. Like maybe we made it. Very, very important training with the actors to feel comfortable. So did you see Ava flying with the wires? So this is training training and trying to do all the actor confidence on the fight. So yeah, my team did an amazing job so yes, they paid off it. Worked, it worked very seamless like well yeah, did any of that? Actors kind of take to it more than then or have like a natural way with the stunts in the

fighting. Yes, because all the actors has like a different skills. Now, you know, maybe how do you say forgot? How many characters and too many so this year? So yeah I totally understand. No Dana see ya. It is an amazing fighting the episode 1 at the end with the you know this scene we're shooting this is in with the system. These are Robo. It's like a road doing all the seeds. Did you see it making a secret? Yeah. So it's a Credible.

No, totally agree. Working care goes into these scenes and it really shows that everybody really cared about what they were doing. Yeah. So thank you for that because it's No, thank you for them because they lift the skin on the every fights you know because for was amazing. Yeah absolutely. Okay. So how much how much, how much of the stunts did the actors do versus stunt doubles?

I don't. Wow, they did a lockers, but there is one thing that all the people think that For sure, all the actors can do a lot of things. Like the stands, but the problem is that the small things could be stopped production, maybe I did, since one policeman do in a rollover and the gun go out of the holder of hit on the nose. So you need to stop the production and stop and wait to, you know. So he's not about that. The actors can do the stances. We are the, do you say that?

Firewall between the actor and the accident. So we need to be there if I have a problem, I had a lot for me. Well I can put another and another statement but for the ACT on there is only one so sometimes it's not that. The actors can not do it, if you must not do it. Because if something happened, we need to stop a big production and it's a lot of money. As far in this season, they did a lot, especially all the main characters. They did a lot of fights. Why did they decide to like give

it to the actors more? Because like, I know a lot of Productions do use the stunt doubles as much as possible to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. But I think this show has been the one that we've seen the most actually have the actors do it. Yeah. Yeah. This is a difficult balance because it's on our department to decide if the actress of the actor is doing the fight or for sure on the fights, you know,

the floor. But as soon as they are flying or hitting a wall or Landing haircut hits, we pulled understandable for security reasons. Make sense. But yeah this is because for me the most important thing in Stannis is the realistic. You know, if you are fighting and you do like this, you know, that is the double So, as much as we can, we put the actors. On the fights. And it's where I'm in the, you know, the combo with the look in the fight like this.

Like, I love it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's awesome. But I will make a lot of care of this. Oh, yeah, yeah, no doubt. So we recently talked to Christina and she was talking about her fight scenes as Beatrice and she really loved the one in the big church scene with that big fight. And so, and that fight seems very like huge and like there's a lot of challenges to it. Like what was it like to put together? Such a like a big scene like that with all those people? Yeah.

They see what they do with Christina. Is that c.k.? I'm from the dance. So she has an amazing control of the body and at the end it's like it's like a big dance. You have to act as fighting here. You have another Factor 5 is in

the other side. You have the stands back room, fight bit, you have the crowd running at the end so at the end is like like a dance, you need to mix together and I try to explain all of this with the camera because this is very, very difficult sometimes because you need to have the continuity of the fight. You need to know who is running at the end who is fighting. So yeah, but it's very easy to work with Avon with Alba and we Christina not a whole thing.

It just that's a very excellent way of describing. It was a dance. Absolutely. Yes. Totally I love it. So for a big scene like that, how long does it take to plan? It like fully like. So you like you have an idea. How long does it take to figure out what everybody's doing? Yeah, you said around couple of weeks because the beginning, do you need to have a conversation with the serenity?

After you have the conversation with the showrunner, you know, that you have a director for each block. In this season, we have four directors, one of them, it was Simon Barry. There's a runner.

And the director for the last block and then when you have the idea about the five, for example in the church or at the end with the zealots, you need to talk with the director of this blog, So we prepare with the doubles understands we sold the fight for Simon and and the director, and then we start to put the actors in the fight and the doubles, so maybe, yeah, it's couple of weeks, couple of weeks, a lot of work working together, but if you are shooting the block one, and you

are rehearsing the block to, maybe you are doing this big fights in one month, three weeks. Because we can, yeah, we cannot work all the days with them because his work training fighting hidden for. So we put paths in the forearms in the news. It's hard work because it's not. They, the actor is not only doing the fight is preparing. The oh, no, they acting since oh, yeah, if you had an unlimited budget, is there a dream stuff that you would like to pull off?

Wow, limited budget. Sounds really good. And the for what? Say gate because I Collapse when I listen a limited batch. Internet's being a little weird right now. So say again, if I had an unlimited budget, I'm going to sit down because it sounds really good. There you go. Yeah, what kind of fighter did you put together if you hadn't limited budget? Is there a stunt that you would like to do? For me, I don't know. I have a lot of ideas for Season 3, but maybe big car chase

scene. Yeah, because if it's Jasmine were afraid. Lots of screaming during, and if for sure, with with consider it. What is the sister that drive horrible in the system to. Yes. Yes, yes. Yes sir. Yes. Ma'am. Yes. Ma'am. Please make that happen. I so fun. I feel like Yasmin drive it. Yes! Me and Camilla doing it for coming together and just been like both screaming with big guys. Like yes. Yeah. Oh my God, Beatrice in the back just just going.

Like what right? I feel like just like the guys, it's not that big of a deal every week. Yeah, yes. Yes. Absolutely. How could you not be to watch Mother Superior and eat? I don't even it's just it's too much of a stake. It's very, very funny scene. Obvious. Yeah, it was hilarious. How many was yeah? So, maybe this or maybe if for, sorry, I will. Half a big budget. I seen in a plane exploding non-flying trying to grab the parachutes in the air. Mid air fights, incredible.

I love this float in the air and stuff. Yeah, he could play with that. We could have it. Yes, I want you gone through the air screaming. One of those like squirrel suits, it does sound amazing. I want it. All right. All right, speaking of I'm stunts, so question. So you mentioned earlier that, like, safety is like, really key with doing stunts. How do you make sure actors and everyone doing stunts. Stay safe while they're

performing them. The most important thing is the training because training is the if you know that you are going to do in a fight, see you repeat the choreography 20 times. It's very difficult to, to do mistakes. And then we have, like, drinks system of security. The fight coordinator is working with the actors on set. We have the stunt coordinator, taking care of the environment.

Understand supervisor is Taking care of a lot of things about the apartment, you know, the props normally, check all the props that are safe to be sure that we don't have sharpen things on their own, they probes. Maybe the a department to be sure that the floor because we prepared a special floor with is like a neoprene and we the flourish like the real floor, but this New Brim.

So this is very Very, very important to have this kind of security rings to be sure that this is not happening. Because you have the perform a test and perform at the stand guard. Over our choreographers working with the actors. If I got the needle, thinking a little start supervisor this time, super assistant, coordinator stands for visor, it's very difficult to have problems, but as I told you small thin, sometimes it's very difficult to take care of all the variables of the equation.

Yeah. Yeah. Practice Prime. This is why I'm in the combo. Like Must be so nerve-wracking. You like we did everything possible. It's all up to you. Yeah, but no, no you see son we wouldn't have probably. So yeah we are very lucky happy. That's awesome. Hopefully you never have problems sometimes. No, but yeah, yeah, you never know.

But this is why we are trying to put in the special moments that doubles because we are here for this something happened We got to take the double but for sure, we can chain the actor. Yeah, absolutely. But where you're not hasn't been the only project you worked on. Obviously, you've done a lot. What has been your favorite project to work on and why? I think I lost about what her name is.

One of my favorite favorite one. because we start to prepare, I was shooting Rambo in Bulgaria and I had a meeting with Simon which is a runner and it was like a How do you say when cupido throw their old? Like it was like, yeah. It was maybe five years ago and especially because in in Warrior nannies is the group. They drew is like a family. You know, sometimes when you are working in a big project, there

are a lot of pressure. There are a lot of tensions but in Vernon is like, if there is no person is family, I love working on. Don't put another flood, so amazing. Yeah, I love that. Yeah, so, okay, so What is your has been your favorite? Stunt that you've done as a professional performer. You have one. I know you've probably done. So many. Is it? When Christina, bang your head against the wall?

Yeah. I mean, obviously, that would be in the top ten for this season of, for engineers, your whole career. I did a lot of things that you never think that you are allowed to maybe suit in La La Brea. It's like a big monument in the south of Spain that is not allowed to shoot and you are doing a sword fight, or maybe jumping in Malta in Clips, in Malta or working in genus, Lansing Island. So, for me, I'm a lucky boy. I did a lot of things I fight with.

They repeat in Warrior in World War, see it? I don't know, I did a lot of things so it's very difficult to choose one. Totally understand. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. It's like on a variety of things. Yeah, I miss him amazing because your office is different every day you are working in a see we both you are working with motorbikes in a highway you are working with swords in Europe. So yeah so awesome. It's an amazing free. I never Were you ever given?

Like did a director ever say, okay, we want to do this and you're like, how the heck are we gonna do that? Did you ever have like one of those scenes that you had to figure out? Yeah, because sometimes in the director asked you for very very weird things. I don't know. Maybe, I don't know to connect a guy in a wheelchair, to pick up to do Johnson. So sometimes it's like really Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I can see that you like are you sure this? Yes. Yeah. Yes. He's like but for me it's

amazing. Because the because we booked a real guy of a wheelchair and he was like, yes, do it again but you hit the floor like so. Yeah. really really, really different things that I don't know, maybe the remember one amazing stunts, you know, this kind of in Spanish. You say hit guards is like, in the Furious. You have like a small cars and you. Yeah. Are all the time. Hating mmm, for cars? Yes. Bumper cars. So they're detective. Tommy. Can you drive the bumper car

with your legs and say what? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is it on there? With one leg of the steering wheel and you try to drive and hit one guy and fly and hit the wall and say, okay let's do it. And I did it and wow, nice. So yeah hilarious, I love that. Crazy things. Interesting things. I don't think the word that I gave you was the correct one, but what dammit Caitlin. I don't know if the word I gave you was the right word that I think you're good Caitlin. Okay, you're fine.

So you have experience as a stunt performer and then as a like coordinator do you prefer to be in front of the camera doing? Stunts or like behind supervising. It's interesting.

Because, the years ago, I was thinking that is very easy because you grab your paths in your back, you speak with the stunt coordinator, the stunt coordinator, told you, you need to fall on this healed, you need to jump off this car but we'll, when you are coordinator, work coordinating is you have a big responsibility especially when you are a stand supervisor because you need to take Out of your team and sometimes you don't have the control of the situation.

You need to know your team. You need to know if you are booking. The proper person to do car kit you know a car key to run. Our one God is coming and you need to jump in the perfect moment to hit the windscreen break the windscreen flying on the roof and land on the floor. So In This Moment sometimes his life. Oh my God, I prefer And to be on the in front of the car. Because yeah, yeah, I love The Stance. I did a lot. and it's like, it's like I'm sorry.

Go ahead and do your job. All the people is Clapping. Your Hands is like yeah, I did it. And all the, how do you say the hormones that you free on this kind of action series? It's like a drug sometimes so you need to take care of this because sometimes yeah if you are added to this kind of hormones, sometimes it's dangerous because you need to do maybe a bit more baby. Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem. Yeah. But for your question.

Yeah I'm sometimes I prefer to do stunts because you don't have this responsibilities but Curry creating a since and preparing a big. So like we're gonna do is it's amazing. Because you are creating this Essence with your stunt coordinator and your fight choreographer. And at the end, you see on the, on the screen is like, oh yeah. Gratifying to stick it to wash them in the end. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's awesome. Well, there's no denying that your job is really cool and dangerous, but if there's anybody who's listening that wants to get started and stuns, what advice would you give them to get started? I remember that old books that I read long time ago, and I think the most important thing is say, thank you. And please, And then stay all the time on said, no. Because sometimes the I knew a lot of people on the way.

Now, I understand sometimes with the with the people is like a mist and man, but you need to feel that if you want to be a stuntman. So you need to stay on set all the time. Look in the screen. What are you doing working with all the apartments? Because for me it's very important because at the end you need to work with costume with makeup, special effects, special

effects. Props. So yeah, I will say that be on set all the time and work as a team because at the end, Movie TV show is a teamwork so yeah. And I'm going to say this, sometimes the stuntmen are very I missed. And then I know everything because I jump from buildings on fire. But again, do I want to have more of I hate. This is like, yes. But yeah, they work. I love that. That's great. Advice teamwork. Is he on set? Well, thank you. Thank you for sure. Always my mother. Teach me this.

Yeah, that's the dorable I love it. Okay. So that's the last of our questions. But do you have any final words for our listeners? Before we wrap everything up? Funny words, final words. Anything you want to say to the people listening? Do you did you see, did you see many black when they grabbed this kind of So, look alike. I'm forget everything and then go listen again. No no no, I don't know. I'm a I'm a lucky boy.

I'm really, really happy to work in this business so I never think that I will do this kind of things when I start breaking my bones everywhere, doing crazy things without Out, you know, because long time ago, imagine, 20 years ago, 30 years ago, when, when the stands start to do stunts jumping from horses doing car kids, they didn't have Parts, they put towels around the arms on the knees and so I start in in the perfect moment. So yeah, if you are trying to be a standing, be careful.
