Introduction

Welcome back to Beyond Doubt Unleashing Confidence. The podcast where we delve into the questions that shape our lives, inspire our journeys and transform our perspectives. I'm your host Nefi Aguntoye. With a cold today, I was meant to record earlier in the week but I was really bad like I lost my voice. But today we're in episode 6 and we're discussing a topic that is profound and deeply personal and it's how to live meaningfully and die joyously.

This episode is inspired by a powerful YouTube video by Caitlin Pawlowski where she shared her journey of overcoming a shopping addiction. Her message struck a chord with me especially the idea that realising that we're not going to be here forever can transform how we live our lives and this truth has become more relevant to me recently and my friend Izzy's stepdad, he was sick for a year and he passed away this Wednesday.

So it's a stark reminder that our time on earth is finite and honestly it freaks me out. But instead of letting this fear paralyse us? What if we could use it to fuel our desire to live more meaningfully? I will also put a link to Caitlin's YouTube video in the description. So let's start by confronting this reality head-on. Life is short. We don't know how much time we have and we don't know the cause that will be dealt.

Facing the Reality of Finite Time

But what we do know is that we have this moment right now and we have the power to choose how we spend it part one the reality of finite time facing the reality of our finite time on earth can be daunting the thought of losing someone we love or facing our own mortality can fill us with fear and anxiety. My own experience with the deceptive passing has brought this home for me in a way that's hard to ignore.

It's scary but it's also a wake-up call. We often go through life as if we're going to be here forever, pushing off our dreams, avoiding tough conversations and wasting time on things that don't matter. But the truth is we don't have forever. The people we love, the opportunities we have, they won't always be here. So, how do we live meaningfully in the time we have?

The Impact of Wasting Time

Part 2, the impact of wasting time. One of the biggest challenges we face today is a temptation to waste time on things that don't add value to our lives. It's easy to get lost in the endless scroll of social media, obsess over material things or procrastinate on our goals. These distractions can consume hours, even days of our lives. Time will never get back. But what's the cost of this wasted time?

It's not just about the hours lost it's about the life not lived my brother worked who so my brother he's a junior doctor and he worked in the hospice he shares stories of people in their final days and a common theme was regret regret over time wasted over not pursuing passions over letting fear hold them back they wished they had embraced each day spent more time with loved ones and not sweated the small stuff.

These reflections should be a powerful motivator for us to reassess how we're spending our time. We're living in a way that like us, so are we living in a way that aligns with our values or are we caught up in trivialities? Are we moving towards our goals or we let in procrastination and distraction hold us back.

How to Spend Our Time Wisely

Part three, how to spend our time wisely. So how can we spend our time wisely? It starts with being intentional. We need to take a hard look at where our time is going and make conscious choices about how we want to spend it. One of the most effective ways to do this is by setting clear goals. What do you want to achieve in your life? What legacy do you want to leave behind? These aren't just lofty questions, they should guide your daily actions.

When you have a clear sense of your goals, it's easier to prioritise your time and cut out the distractions that don't serve you. Another important aspect is reducing our reliance on social media. Guys I used to be on Instagram all the time and over the last year I've just reduced how much time I am spending on it like. It started off as like a detox with my brother, like a little bet, like he bet me I couldn't stay off Instagram for a month.

And I was like, I'm going to win this bet. I'm going to show you that I can. And at first it was hard. But after a month, I realized, you know, I just spent more time messaging people instead of like going on my friend's Instagram to see what they've been up to.

I like gave her a call and found out things so I would definitely encourage reducing your reliance on social media so while it is a great tool for staying connected it can also be a major time sink so set limits for yourself maybe it's a certain amount of time per day I think there are apps that you can use to that will like stop you after a certain time or specific times when you check in each day.

Replace that time with activities that enrich your life, reading, learning something new, spending time with loved ones or simply being present in the moment. So let's break this down further with some practical steps. Number one, schedule digital detoxes. Set specific times during your day where you disconnect from social media and other digital distractions. Use this time for meaningful activities such as spend time with your family, working on a passion project or simply enjoying nature.

Number two, prioritize meaningful activities. Identify the activities that bring you joy and fulfillment It can be something as simple as a morning walk, reading a book or having deep conversations with a friend. Make these activities a priority in your daily schedule. Number three, reflect on your time usage. At the end of the day, reflect on how much or how you spent your time. Ask yourself if the activities you engaged in were meaningful and aligned with your goals.

Living Without Regrets

This reflection could help you make adjustments for the following day remember the quality of our lives is determined by how we spend our time every minute wasted on meaningless activities is a minute lost that could have been used to build something beautiful connect with someone important or move closer to our goals part four living without regrets.

Living meaningfully also live means living without regrets regret is one of the most painful emotions often stemming from missed opportunities unspoken words and unfulfilled dreams but the good news is by making intentional choices today we can minimize the regrets that we'll have tomorrow to live without regrets we need to embrace a mindset of action and intention, Here are some questions to ask yourself regularly. 1. What's holding me back?

Identify what's preventing you from pursuing your goals or passions is it fear lack of time self-doubt once you know what's holding you back you can take steps to address it number two am i aligning my actions with my values reflect on whether your daily actions reflect what you truly value if family is important to you are you spending enough quality time with them? If health is a priority, are you taking care of your body and mind? Number three, what would I do if I had no fear?

Imagine living without fear of failure or judgment or even success. What would you pursue? What would you reach out to or who would you reach out to? What risk would you take? Use this exercise to uncover hidden desires and take courageous steps towards them. Living without regret also involves taking risks, making mistakes and learning from them. It's not about being proactive, it is about being proactive rather than reactive.

Seize opportunities when they arise and not letting fear of failure hold you back. It's about living with the knowledge that at the end of the day, you did your best, you loved deeply, and you lived fully.

The Confidence Boost of Living Meaningfully

Part 5. The confidence boost of living meaningfully. Living meaningfully doesn't just lead to a fulfilling life, it also boosts your confidence in a profound way.

When you're living in alignment with your values and actively working towards your goals, you start to feel more grounded more sure of yourself confidence isn't about never doubting yourself it's about knowing that you're on the right path regardless of the challenges that come your way it's about having the courage to live life on your own terms to go after what you truly want and to not let the fear of failure hold you back by focusing on what well really or truly matters to you.

By spending your time wisely and with intention, you naturally become more confident. You're not wasting energy on things that don't matter. Instead, you're investing it in things that bring you joy, purpose, and fulfillment. This kind of intentional living builds an inner confidence that's unshakable. For example, think about someone like Michelle Obama. Barmer. Her confidence is undeniable, but it's not just about her public persona.

It's rooted in her clear sense of purpose, her dedication to her values, and her commitment to making a difference. When you know why you're doing what you're doing, and when your actions align with that purpose, confidence follows naturally.

Stop Procrastinating and Go for Your Goals

Part six, stop procrastinating and go for your goals. Procrastination is another major barrier to living meaningfully we often put put off our goals and dreams tell ourselves that we'll get there someday but here's the truth someday is not guaranteed we don't know what the future holds so why not start now think about your goals all the goals you've been putting off, Maybe it's starting a business, writing that book, or finally taking a trip you've always dreamed of.

What's holding you back? Fear? Uncertainty? The truth is, these are just excuses. The only thing standing between you and your goal is your willingness to take action. To overcome procrastination, consider these strategies. 1. Break down big goals. Large goals can be overwhelming, leading to procrastination. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks. Focus on completing one small task at a time, and before you know it, you'll be making significant progress.

2. Set deadlines Self-imposed deadlines create a sense of urgency. They push you to take action rather than waiting for the perfect time, which often never comes.

Be strict with these deadlines and hold yourself accountable and if you need to ask a friend or a family member to hold you accountable number three visualize success spend a few minutes each day visualizing what success looks like for you imagine how achieving your goals will feel the impact it will have on your life and a sense of accomplishment you'll experience this mental exercise can boost your motivation and reduce procrastination.

Stop waiting for the perfect moment start now even if it's just a small step take it when you take action towards your goals you build momentum and that momentum fuels your confidence and motivation you start to see that you're capable of more than you realized and that belief in yourself self grows.

Questions to Ask Yourself for Living Meaningfully

Part seven, living meaningfully. Questions to ask yourself. Living meaningfully requires regular reflection. It's about constantly reassessing your life, your choices and your direction. Here are some powerful questions to ask yourself regularly to ensure you're living a life aligned with your deepest values. Number one, am I spending my time on what truly matters?

Reflect on your daily activities are they aligned with your long-term goals and values or are they distractions this question helps you to prioritize what's truly important, number two what am i grateful for today gratitude shifts your focus from what's lacking to what's abundant in your life it's a simple yet powerful practice that enhances your appreciation for your life's blessing, no matter how small. Number three, what legacy do I want to leave?

Consider the impact you want to have on the world. How do you want to be remembered? This question can guide your decisions and actions, ensuring that you're in line with the legacy you wish to create. Number four, how can I grow today? Growth is a lifelong journey. Whether it's learning something new, improving a skill, or stepping out of your comfort zone, ask yourself how you can grow a little more each day. Number five, am I being true to myself?

This question helps you check in with your authenticity. Are you living in a way that's true to who you are or are you conforming to external expectations? Being true to yourself is key to living meaningfully. By regularly asking yourself off these questions, you ensure that you're living intentionally, making choices that align with your values and moving towards a life without regret.
