Episode description

Join us for a discussion of The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune!

Disclaimer, June 3, 2021: It has come to our attention that TJ Klune recently revealed his inspiration for this title to be that of residential schools for indigenous children in Canada. We're sensitive to the gravity of this issue and how harmful it is to indigenous peoples, particular in light of the recent discovery of 215 children's remains at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.

Our views, as presented in this episode, were recorded prior to our knowledge of these details. We'd like our listeners to know that we do not condone the appropriation of cultures that have suffered generations of abuse, and we hope you'll listen to this episode from the perspective of two readers who thoroughly enjoyed a well-written story.

If you would like to learn more about the history of government-sanctioned residential schools for indigenous children, and what is being done to bring awareness to the ongoing struggle for survivors, visit https://indigenousfoundations.arts.ubc.ca/the_residential_school_system/
