The Italian Serie A kicked off the new year with some superb matches. All teams involved were without several players due to injuries, covid and Africa Cup of Nations. Juventus were arguably the less impressive side in Turin, despite facing a Napoli team missing nine players and their coach through COVID, injuries, suspension, being kept to a 1-1 draw while a decimated AC Milan made the most of AS Roma errors beating them 3-1 and closing the gap on leaders Inter. 

Serie A has approved a new COVID protocol and insists all league games must be played on Sunday, blaming local health authorities for the matches that were abandoned in the midweek round. The two most anticipated games are of course AS Roma vs. Juventus and Inter vs. Lazio.
