00:01:16 Ken

Corporate 200 plus stores fool you. They know what they're doing and they sure as **** do it. Well. Once again, my name is 10. I am drinking from BJ's, the Oasis amber. And I'll be following it up with the.

00:01:29 Ken

2 sellers they had the.

00:01:32 Ken

Amber or excuse me? The red.

00:01:35 Ken

This the Oasis is the ember, the red ale. Jeremiah Red is their top seller. If it is not the top seller, it is the blonde.

00:01:43 Ken

Dan, welcome back. Thank you.

00:01:45 Rob OR Dan

Yeah, little technical difficulties.

00:01:46 Ken

What are you?

00:01:47 Ken

That's alright. What's the drinking?

00:01:48 Rob OR Dan

Yeah. So you know real quick, you know.

00:01:51 Rob OR Dan

00:01:56 Rob OR Dan

Jam along but.

00:01:57 Rob OR Dan

I'm still working on that speed waste out since I didn't get to work on it too much. Fixing everything and then from rent house, I've got a job.

00:02:05 Rob OR Dan

Max Coffee Stout following.

00:02:08 Ken

And Wendy, what about you? What are you drinking?

00:02:11 Wendy

I have a committed double IPA from BJ's and I also was able to crack open my Rochester Mills milkshake scout.

00:02:20 Rob OR Dan

Ohh yeah.

00:02:24 Rob OR Dan

I am drinking a four hands from Anchorage Brewing in Anchorage, AK and I will say they always have the.

Them simple, easy to the point. Get to there to watch our shows. We are live Fridays at 7:15 PM Eastern. And of course, the news following after our interview.

00:03:19 Ken

As we go.

00:03:19 Ken

Into the craft beer news segment, we're going to try something different here.

00:03:24 Ken

As many of.

00:03:25 Ken

You know, I love to get on my soapbox. It's just my favorite place to stand, but a little bit different. I wanted to to be a little teacher this week and.

00:03:35 Ken

Explain to you a little bit about.

00:03:39 Ken

How modello took over the number one spot in beer in the United States?

00:03:46 Ken

Now for a lot of people, they don't know this story. Maybe they just feel that.

00:03:50 Ken

The controversy was enough.

00:03:51 Ken

But there's a lot that went into this and I did the research by watching other people's research and putting it into my own work.

00:04:01 Ken

So in the grand theme scheme of things, imports are still young in the market of craft beer. During the 1960s, only 1% of beers in the US were imported, and it was dominated by Heineken and even by the end of the 70s, only 3% of beers in the US were imported. Of course, as Northern United States.

00:04:19 Ken

Folks like ourselves, uh, we may have a different experience when it comes to imports, with the likes of Labat and Molson being readily available at any Michigan bar.

00:04:30 Ken

Even after Labat began brewing in the USA.

00:04:33 Ken

We in Michigan.

00:04:34 Ken

Still imported our Canadian beer from Canada proper.

00:04:38 Ken

Down to Mexico, however, Corona was taking note and asked themselves why Heineken was the number one imported beer when they could be. They began their takeover in the US throughout the 80s as they focused on Americans that enjoyed vacationing in Mexico for spring break, focusing on the younger crowd that had a decent amount of spending capabilities for luxury brands including.

00:04:58 Ken

Imports wasn't without their fair share of bumps, however, including a rumor that grew so big folks actually believed Corona was created from employee urine.

00:05:10 Ken

The company that.

00:05:11 Ken

Started this rumor was actually taken to court and forced under oath to correct their.

00:05:17 Ken

Marketing took force with the iconic lime iconic lime wedge and by the end of the 90s, Corona was the number one beer and kept that going for nearly 20 years until late 2000. Tens. What is missing from this time frame, however, is that many people don't recall at that time Anheuser-Busch actually invested a lot of money into Grupo Modelo. The owner of Corona.

00:05:38 Ken

Giving them three seats on the board when?

00:05:40 Ken

AB InBev merged with eight or excuse me, when InBev.

00:05:43 Ken

Merged with AB.

00:05:45 Ken

We saw the full purchase of the company in 2012 for $20 billion or 20 ballast points.

00:05:52 Ken

As we know, the US rights of Grupo Modelo transferred to Constellation due to the antitrust suit, which is interesting because as I was researching this, I learned that constellation wasn't even.

00:06:03 Ken

In the beer business before this happened.

00:06:06 Ken

2013 is the year that changed the game for Mexican beer. With the new facility under Constellation and also began taking on sponsorships that we really only see in the world of Miller, Coors and AB from UFC to the Vegas Raiders, White Sox, Golden State Warriors and more in the five years from 2013 to 2018 in the number one.

00:06:26 Ken

Import in the US.

00:06:28 Ken

As I mentioned earlier, we know Labatt and Molson, but why didn't we see this with modello? Well, it's because they had to focus on Los Angeles. A powerful Salesforce got them into every bar, plastered the city with advertisements, billboards and even before the events of 2023 were out selling Miller, Bud and Coors combined.

00:06:49 Ken

In the city of Los Angeles.

00:06:52 Ken

Your economists believe that by 20-30, modella would have organically taken the number one spot as the number one selling beer. But now that it is there and months of free advertising being called, the new king of Beers may have solidified it as the top beer for years to come. That is your lesson.

00:07:11 Ken

Of basically how modello supplanted themselves as the number one beer they took over Los Angeles and organically was going to be the number one beer by 20-30, according to people. So my question to you.

00:07:24 Ken

As we've seen, some of the biggest names in 2023 controversy already drinking Bud light again, the influx of RTD's and Seltzers grabbing the market of voters and beachgoers does bud light ever regain the number one spot, or do we see any brand in the new near future attempt to grab?

00:07:44 Ken

That number one spot.

00:07:46 Ken

Dan, you like to listen to me talk.

00:07:50 Rob OR Dan

So no, I mean, there's one idiot that you saw drinking a bud light model, you know, out here in Arizona. It's just like Los Angeles. It's in every single bar, no matter where you go and people drink it because it tastes a lot better than any of the domestic, not just.

00:08:06 Rob OR Dan

About like any of the domestic you know.

00:08:10 Rob OR Dan

Loggers that are out.

00:08:12 Rob OR Dan

There, so no model is probably going to be up there for a while and you know you got the whole Modelo time me out there too. That's been there forever. If you don't know and you got to look it up. So no, it's not going anywhere for quite a while.

00:08:27 Ken

Modello on top of the UFC had a marketing campaign. I believe it was called drink like a fighter.

00:08:36 Ken

Ohh yeah, they still have those modello. Yeah, and what? A lot of a lot of people don't realize is the subtextual marketing, because while modello wasn't at the same price point as bud lights, they still had the little golden flake at the top that you had to peel to get to the the bottle cap.

00:08:40 Rob OR Dan

Don't do that stuff.

00:08:57 Ken

A lot of people love that they feel.

00:08:58 Ken

Like that was.

00:08:59 Ken

The you know that that made them bougie. That made them.

00:09:03 Wendy

It fancy.

00:09:04 Ken

Fancy. That's the word.

00:09:06 Rob OR Dan

You know they have the Modelo.

00:09:07 Rob OR Dan

*****, too, which is a.

00:09:08 Rob OR Dan

Great alternative if you just don't want your. Yeah, if you don't want your basic Mexican law.

00:09:10 Wendy

Essentially that, yeah.

00:09:13 Rob OR Dan

Here the negar is a really.

00:09:15 Rob OR Dan

Good alternative that a lot of people enjoy too. Like that's my go to you know, if I have a choice of it, it's just they got better options I think. And it just tastes better.

00:09:26 Ken

Well, I think the important thing to note is because of that Constellation Department of Justice, US them brewing the beer and marketing and everything like that like it's going to help with their other sales between Corona, Pacific Coast, Seoul, dos Equis, like all these other Mexican beer.

00:09:46 Ken

Brands are entering into our market and doing extremely well.

00:09:51 Ken

But Rob, what do you?

00:09:54 Rob OR Dan

Yeah. Obviously, I don't think blood lights gonna necessarily come back to be the top beer. I just feel a lot of people when they were younger, that was the option they had.

00:10:02 Rob OR Dan

And they stuck with it through the years because they didn't want to try anything.

00:10:07 Rob OR Dan

Else and now that people have started to try things, I definitely think they'll see like the.

00:10:13 Rob OR Dan

Mexican Lager has a much fuller taste.

00:10:17 Rob OR Dan

Then something like a bud light or a Miller light does.

00:10:22 Rob OR Dan

While it's a little bit more calories for some of those people that count calories, I don't think it's going to be quite as extreme because they're still pretty light beers.

00:10:31 Ken

Well, I I I wanna come back cause you mentioned the the the way you mentioned it in. In my mind the first thing I'm thinking about is people that are buying multiple beers at the same time. Like I I don't. Obviously there are a lot of people who are buying.

00:10:45 Ken

And but like buying beer. But what I think Bud light. I think Miller light, I think Coors Light, I think buckets I think.

00:10:53 Ken

Bowling alleys, pool halls.

00:10:56 Ken

I think going to a ball game and getting the the cheaper draft beer because you can get more of that draft beer again cheaper.

00:11:06 Ken

But you're saying that even with those price points, people are no longer.

00:11:13 Ken

Just fine with, but like they're they're OK with paying the extra few bucks for modello at a ballpark.

00:11:22 Rob OR Dan

I mean.

00:11:23 Rob OR Dan

Even at like at Target I mean now they don't have a I don't some Adele too often a.

00:11:28 Rob OR Dan

Target stadium but.

00:11:29 Rob OR Dan

I don't even like the line at.

00:11:30 Rob OR Dan

Google is like.

00:11:31 Rob OR Dan

A dollar or more?

00:11:32 Rob OR Dan

Than a Miller white. So to me it's well worth paying a dollar or you go into the the craft bar and spend $2.00 more than a middle life.

00:11:43 Rob OR Dan

And I just say.

00:11:45 Rob OR Dan

You'll get these people who, there's always gonna be people that drink bud light. But I think once you expose some of them as something that's similar enough in flavor and the texture, it's just another larger beer. But it is a little bit more flavor. It'll slowly start to change people and.

00:12:02 Rob OR Dan

I think the controversy just kind of.

00:12:04 Rob OR Dan

Spend that up a little bit.

00:12:06 Ken

Now make sure when you're paying attention to those beers that you're not getting fooled by Oz along with the price, because sometimes those lining kugels are 16 ounces whereas the bud lights are 24 ounces.

00:12:18 Ken

But Wendy, what do you think?

00:12:21 Wendy

I agree. I don't think that floodlights going to.

00:12:26 Wendy

Jump back in. I I do want to say you brought up the modello negra. The Mugello amber is one of my favorites. Like.

00:12:36 Rob OR Dan

I haven't even seen that one.

00:12:36 Wendy

I love when I.

00:12:36 Wendy

Can climb in places.

00:12:38 Wendy

Usually the last place I had it was in.

00:12:40 Wendy

The Dominican Republic, but.

00:12:44 Wendy

It was. It's one of my favorites. It's a really good beer. No, I I don't think that it's going to come back. I think people once they realize they have other options and they start trying new things, I don't think.

00:12:56 Wendy

They'll go back to it.

00:12:59 Ken

So you think the.

00:13:00 Ken

They they lost about.

00:13:01 Ken

25% of their sales due to these controversies, you think that 25% probably not the whole 25%, but enough of that 25% is gone. That is Modelo Especial is going to be the number one.

00:13:16 Ken

Beer for time to come.

00:13:20 Wendy

I don't know that I would say model is going to be #1 for the time to come, but if they.

00:13:24 Wendy

Keep the work getting up the way they've been doing, I mean.

00:13:27 Ken

Like us question #2 is, who do you think's going to dethrone them and become?

00:13:30 Ken

The new King of beer.

00:13:32 Wendy

Oh, that's tough.

00:13:34 Wendy

I don't know that I can throw my.

00:13:35 Wendy

Hat in on that one.

00:13:38 Ken

There is the American beer. There are five brands. I believe that outsell the next import, which is Heineken. Obviously, Modelo, Heineken and then there's a lot. I believe that in the top 20 beer brands in the US sold six are Mexican.

00:13:57 Ken

A lot of them are corona, corona, lights, modello, modello. I think modello Negra is.

00:14:03 Ken

One of them.

00:14:04 Ken

Tecate, dos equis. Like there's, there's plenty of beers that are in the top 20 sales.

00:14:11 Ken

In the US.

00:14:13 Ken

But when you're, this is also kind of like what we see with.

00:14:17 Ken

Craft beer sales in the.

00:14:18 Ken

In Michigan, where it's really top heavy.

00:14:21 Ken

With bells and founders, quote UN quote and even.

00:14:24 Ken

Top heavy with.

00:14:26 Ken

The next brand shorts, I guess. Atwater, you could put in there, but Atwater is not craft New Holland.

00:14:34 Ken

Old nation.

00:14:35

Like those.

00:14:37 Ken

PBR, that's that's not in Michigan, man.

00:14:39 Rob OR Dan

Ohh yeah sorry.

00:14:40 Rob OR Dan

And and I think they're correct.

00:14:42 Ken

Ohh, perhaps brewing is cracked and I will fight you on.

00:14:45 Ken

That one, rob.

00:14:47 Ken

I would send her pictures at like 1:00 AM last night. Like crap. You're the country. I I we we will take this offline. Sirs, but yes, perhaps brewing is craft and I stand by it. And I also stand by. I am still waiting for Bart.

00:14:49 Wendy

We've got definitions, ma'am.

00:15:03 Ken

Watson to give me a a thumbs up, thumbs down but he is not giving me a thumbs down yet.

00:15:08 Ken

So I believe that it might be true.

00:15:13 Ken

So that was was my article my discussion. I hope you enjoyed my little deep dive in history of how modello set themselves up to be the number one beer here in the United States. But what I'm going to do is I'm going to pass it off to Wendy because Wendy wants us to cut our beer drink.

00:15:33 Rob OR Dan

Wait a minute.

00:15:34 Wendy

No, I don't. So.

00:15:35

Hold on.

00:15:37 Wendy

In a story that came out yesterday, Doctor George F Koob, the director of the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Alcoholism, I probably shouldn't say that after a couple of beers on the show, right stated that Americans.

00:15:53 Wendy

They soon be urged to limit their intake to two alcoholic beverages a week.

00:15:59 Wendy

For the last.

00:16:01 Wendy

I don't know how many years the US has recommended the women that the US has recommended that women limit themselves to 1 drink per day and men to two drink per day since the 1990s. So however many years it is, I don't want.

00:16:14 Wendy

To talk about.

00:16:15 Wendy

That why changes. Well, apparently this guidance is up for review in 2025.

00:16:22 Wendy

When several reports have recently come out, that warning that Americans are consuming alcohol at an alarming rate, according to the New York Post article, US residents are drinking as much booze now as in civil war days.

00:16:38 Wendy

And childless women 35 years old, are hit. Most risk of risk of binge drinking, apparently. In January, Canada changed their guidelines to two alcoholic drinks per week, and Coop stated that he is very interested in seeing the impact of that change before they make any decisions on what their changes.

00:16:58 Wendy

2025.

00:17:00 Wendy

So I'm just curious about a couple of things before I go into that. I do want to say that all of we're going to post this article and.

00:17:09 Wendy

That one in.

00:17:10 Wendy

Multiple articles said kept calling Coop Biden's alcohol czar.

00:17:16 Wendy

Which I think is kind of funny since he was appointed in 2013, so I'm pretty sure that Biden wasn't the one who appointed him. So it's not like it's his guy, but you know, anyways.

00:17:31 Wendy

My question is, have you guys heard these reports that talk about Americans increase in alcohol alcoholism and what are your opinions of this recommendation?

00:17:44 Ken

I'm go on, Rob. No, take it away.

00:17:44 Rob OR Dan

I've seen ohh shoot.

00:17:47 Rob OR Dan

I've I've seen some.

00:17:49 Rob OR Dan

Articles that talk about it recently, recently, probably the last year or so that talked about reducing the amount of alcohol per week down to like 2 drinks or three drinks and.

00:18:03 Rob OR Dan

Yeah. Well, even think about it. You you, you go to the doctor and they always ask you how.

00:18:05 Wendy

Excuse me.

00:18:08 Rob OR Dan

Many. How many?

00:18:08 Rob OR Dan

Alcohol drinks do you have?

00:18:09 Rob OR Dan

Ohh I lie. You guys don't lie.

00:18:10 Rob OR Dan

A week and and you're like you're you're like wine.

00:18:13 Rob OR Dan

And they're like wine, huh? And you're like, yeah.

00:18:17 Rob OR Dan

And then then I'll be right down 6.

00:18:21 Rob OR Dan

But because you know, if you say 6.

00:18:24 Rob OR Dan

They're just going to look at you like you're.

00:18:25 Rob OR Dan

Raising alcoholic so.

00:18:26 Wendy

And they're going to put.

00:18:27 Wendy

Down 12.

00:18:29 Ken

So. So I'm funny anecdote my primary.

00:18:33 Ken

Care physician listens to the.

00:18:34 Ken

Show. Ohh ****.

00:18:36 Ken

Didn't tell me.

00:18:37 Ken

Until he he he asked me and.

00:18:40 Ken

I said it and.

00:18:41

He goes Oh yeah.

00:18:42 Ken

Uh-huh. And he goes and he shows me his.

00:18:45 Ken

Phone and it shows better on draft podcast.

00:18:48 Rob OR Dan

Oh, boy, oh boy.

00:18:48 Ken

On the podcast app and I'm like ohh no.

00:18:54 Rob OR Dan

He's like last last Friday, so you had four beers.

00:18:58 Ken

I watched you have four, watched you live do it.

00:18:59 Wendy

I watched you that for.

00:19:04 Ken

Yes, Sir. You telling me you had?

00:19:05 Ken

-2 beers this week.

00:19:07 Ken

Other than that night. No, I'm. I'm.

00:19:10 Ken

I'm actually a little bit shocked about this because.

00:19:14 Ken

We've talked about how Gen. Z is actually drinking less than millennials, and like a significant amount. Not like, ohh, by like 2% by like 20%. They drink less than millennials now.

00:19:29 Ken

We can sum that up to a lot of different things from the the different geopolitical and American political things that are going on between student debt 911. Like all these things that have happened within a millennials lifetime as they were growing and maturing.

00:19:50 Ken

You know Dan, that was like the Great Depression for you. The exact same thing like the same thing happened.

00:19:57 Ken

Whereas Jen Z is drinking a lot less and we've talked about even with.

00:20:01 Ken

You know the the folks.

00:20:02 Ken

At 2, roots and athletic brewing like all these NA options, mocktail options like the drinking and moderation, and we even see it on a handful of like social media content, where like millennials, are kind of like.

00:20:17 Ken

The drunkards of every generation because.

00:20:20 Ken

Because what else are they going to do but drink and eat Hot Chip so yeah.

00:20:28 Ken

This is kind of like a.

00:20:29 Ken

A shocking thing for me to have Biden, ZAR or the alcohol czar, the alcohol dude say we need to go down to two drinks.

00:20:40 Ken

Per week.

00:20:42 Wendy

So there's a couple of things I want.

00:20:44 Wendy

To point out that both Rob and Ken said, Rob, where did you hear about the two drinks per week? Because it's something that they just changed in Canada? Is that where those stories are coming from?

00:20:56 Rob OR Dan

I believe what I read was just them talking about doing it in the OR making a recommendation in the.

00:21:01 Rob OR Dan

US, I mean it.

00:21:03 Rob OR Dan

May have been connected to Canada, but.

00:21:06 Rob OR Dan

I can't really.

00:21:08 Rob OR Dan

Specifically, say.

00:21:08 Wendy

But have you heard anything?

00:21:09 Wendy

About the fact that the.

00:21:11 Wendy

Alcoholism is on the rise in the US.

00:21:14 Rob OR Dan

Definitely articles that came out like pandemic and a little bit post pandemic where they talked about because people were at home. They tended to drink more and.

00:21:25 Rob OR Dan

You know, it wasn't so much binge drinking, but because you would drink every day 3-4 or five drinks and it just became more habitual, I think for people.

00:21:36 Rob OR Dan

Well, which very well could be an issue just because of the times, but.

00:21:42 Rob OR Dan

I think.

00:21:42 Wendy

Pretty sure that's not just here.

00:21:47 Wendy

Ken, you mentioned Jen.

00:21:51 Wendy

Z. So I just looked it up and Gen. Z is technically between 9 and 24 years old.

00:21:52 Ken

Yes, the youngins.

00:21:58 Wendy

And this article.

00:21:58 Wendy

Specifically called out women who are 35 years.

00:22:03 Ken

I mean, I'm not a woman that's childless in 35. That would be, I believe that would still be in the the millennial territory. That's definitely. Well, that's that's still on like the even the high end of the millennial territory as I am 36, I believe 37.

00:22:05 Wendy

So that would be molecules, right?

00:22:23 Ken

Oh ****, I'm 37, so.

00:22:25 Rob OR Dan

That's even the high end. I mean, if you're.

00:22:27 Rob OR Dan

Gen. X you're 40.

00:22:29 Ken

Three, so that's that's the low end of Gen. X, though, like millennial goes to about 808483 as the.

00:22:36 Wendy

I was going to say.

00:22:38 Rob OR Dan

If you're younger, if you're younger, if you're younger than 43, you're a millennial. Basically, yes.

00:22:45 Ken

I I think there are a lot of people that.

00:22:46 Wendy

They're currently between 20 and 40, according to Google.

00:22:50 Ken

Yeah, 40 I think is the the age for millennials. I think anything over 40 is still X and that's the bottom part of X.

00:22:51 Wendy

Millennials are.

00:22:53 Wendy

Between 25 and.

00:22:57 Ken

It's it's that that zenil is what they.

00:23:00 Ken

Call it XENIAL zenia L.

00:23:04 Ken

Stupid name, honestly.

00:23:05 Rob OR Dan

It's a it's a Star Trek.

00:23:07 Rob OR Dan

Race. We're going to meet someday.

00:23:10 Ken

It's it's one of those things where it's it's a population that still isn't as old as Gen. X, but really isn't as young as like millennials like they they were still lights on on the street.

00:23:26 Wendy

That's when you come.

00:23:26 Ken

Type of kids.

00:23:28 Ken

Did you say that's millennial?

00:23:31 Wendy

No, that's when you come home.

00:23:32 Ken

Oh yeah, like.

00:23:33 Wendy

Why can't I?

00:23:33 Ken

That's. Yeah. Like that's that's still Gen. X like. I've never had that like I by the time I was not even in high school, like when I started high schools, when I worked for a cell phone shop, and I had.

00:23:33 Wendy

See. Hold on.

00:23:47 Ken

A cell phone myself because.

00:23:49 Ken

You know, that's the thing for like kids.

00:23:50 Wendy

I don't want to tell you when.

00:23:51 Wendy

I get a cell phone.

00:23:53 Ken

I got a cell phone in 2001 and that's because I worked for a cell phone company. So I got one. But yeah, kids my age.

00:24:03 Ken

Did not have them.

00:24:04 Wendy

How old were you when you got it?

00:24:06 Ken

1514.

00:24:08 Wendy

Yeah. OK. We'll not talk about that anyways.

00:24:11 Rob OR Dan

I was 18 in 1998.

00:24:14 Wendy

So what do you guys think about?

00:24:15 Wendy

The two drinks per week recommendation.

00:24:17 Rob OR Dan

Yeah. Who? Whoever wrote. That's a cop. Let's be real.

00:24:21 Ken

You see, whoever wrote. That's a cop? Yeah.

00:24:24 Wendy

Or they're just really nice people because, you know, they're from Canada.

00:24:28 Rob OR Dan

Now, they're probably a cop. Like, why are you trying to stop me from drinking anything? Get the hell out of.

00:24:33 Ken

We you're communitive.

00:24:33 Rob OR Dan

Here when you.

00:24:35 Rob OR Dan

Get into the civil war like.

00:24:38

I I no no.

00:24:40

At all.

00:24:41 Wendy

Again the whole.

00:24:43 Wendy

Media take on this whole thing they were trying to make it. They were trying to scare us. I saw I read like four or five different articles that mentioned out Biden's alcohol czar, and they talked about.

00:24:56 Wendy

Like the drastic changes and stuff. But it's not until 2025 that they're even going to review these recommendations.

00:25:03 Wendy

And they review them every few years or every so many years. Well, not few years because it was 1990 was the last time they did it, 2025. They're now going to review them.

00:25:14 Wendy

Which makes sense.

00:25:17 Ken

Here's what I think is that there is.

00:25:21 Ken

It's we we talked about it prior to the.

00:25:23 Ken

The show going live is that it is.

00:25:26 Ken

A type of.

00:25:30 Ken

Statement where it's a little bit overdramatic. Remember when Jennifer Granholm in Michigan made Meatless Mondays and everyone just got ****** *** about it because they're like, I'm gonna eat my steak extra raw today.

00:25:47 Wendy

Extra raw. I'm gonna go do it myself.

00:25:48 Rob OR Dan

That's Oh yeah. Black and blue balloon rare.

00:25:50 Ken

Yeah, still still blue. Rare. Yes, still mooing.

00:25:56 Ken

But yeah, those those are the kinds of responses.

00:25:59 Ken

That happen with this. It's the same with.

00:26:02 Ken

And I know we don't.

00:26:02 Ken

Get political, but at least there is allegories within the the comments that I'm making, like when eating less meat for global warming.

00:26:11 Ken

Like that kind of statement happens, and then everyone's like ohh they don't want. You know they want to take your hamburgers away. I'm like I.

00:26:18 Ken

I think there's a lot of 1. There is a lot of overcorrection that is happening and two, I think it's a lot of scare tactics just.

00:26:30 Ken

To **** you.

00:26:30 Ken

Off rage baiting, Dan knows a lot about rage baiting. Yeah.

00:26:35 Rob OR Dan

I'm still waiting for a certain former president come to come knocking.

00:26:38 Rob OR Dan

On my door to try and take things.

00:26:40 Ken

Though listen, I'm still waiting for Kwame Kilpatrick to give me the free beer heel. He's with the Red Wings winning. Ohh. Wait, Stanley Cup.

00:26:44 Rob OR Dan

Ohh that's great.

00:26:45 Rob OR Dan

I I need mine too. I was there.

00:26:48 Rob OR Dan

For that.

00:26:48 Wendy

But we all need that.

00:26:53 Ken

So so I I understand like obviously they're taking point from Canada because of just you know what Canada has said and what it's done. So they're trying to follow that trend because they have the same data and information as Canada does. But I think there are.

00:27:10 Ken

Better ways to address it, but they're less sexy.

00:27:16 Ken

For example, we haven't really talked about it on the show. I don't.

00:27:20 Ken

Think but how big?

00:27:22 Ken

10 schools are gonna allow alcohol at the venues. For me, for me one it's a it's a great way to boost money in sales insight. But two, I see this as a way to get.

00:27:27 Rob OR Dan

They have to, yeah.

00:27:35 Ken

People to stop.

00:27:37 Ken

Tailgating, binge drinking, preloading, and getting into the stadium and at least drinking there because there is a 2 drink limit while you're in there. If you know you can drink in the stadium, you're probably less likely to front load your alcohol and when you go in there know you could drink. So it's like now.

00:27:57 Ken

Ohh I don't have to drink these two extra beers before we walk over to you know, the big house. I can just go there and buy a beer and eat the 10 bucks or whatever it costs 20 bucks. Probably to buy a beer and go from there now.

00:28:11 Ken

That's my opinion, but as we kind of talked about how there wasn't a study for the last 25 years for this, there hasn't been a study on alcohol sales in college stadiums sufficient enough yet that matches a actual thing that happened in the early 90s in Canada.

00:28:32 Ken

Only dumb reason I know this is because my friend's a fricking traffic engineer for m.whodidhis doctorate thesis on ******* Michigan U turns Michigan lefts.

00:28:44 Ken

Like that's that's.

00:28:46 Ken

How I know this random fact so?

00:28:49 Ken

Where he disagrees with me because he believes that, you know, any drinking is bad and you don't wanna have drunk driving at any case. And he believes that people will drink more to be in the state.

00:29:01 Ken

I think it's a way.

00:29:03 Ken

Where you don't run into an.

00:29:05 Ken

Issue where people are as I kept using the.

00:29:08 Ken

Phrase front loading.

00:29:10 Ken

I mean, I'm Dan, rob. Wendy, do you agree? Disagree. Like, at least regarding college?

00:29:17 Ken

Free gaming, tailgating.

00:29:18 Rob OR Dan

I I can see that people may take the advantage of drinking in the stadium now, but I feel like tailgating has just become part of that culture. And while you may get a few people to not do it, I think the bulk of people that do do it will continue to do it because they make a whole day of.

00:29:37 Rob OR Dan

It they get there at.

00:29:38 Rob OR Dan

7:00 AM they're cooking food and drinking, and it's it's part of that whole experience.

00:29:45 Ken

Here's here's my counter, and if you've ever been to Ford Field prior to the game where they do their Miller light discounted beer.

00:29:55 Ken

For sale at like 11 AM they get people so many people out from the tailgate into the stadium to drink 375 Miller lights.

00:30:06 Rob OR Dan

It's not a bad deal.

00:30:07 Rob OR Dan

Ohh, I'll counter that counter though, because you said there's a.

00:30:10 Rob OR Dan

Two drink limit. So you're.

00:30:11 Ken

Well, that was not the college. That was the college.

00:30:11 Rob OR Dan

Not gonna pull people in.

00:30:12 Rob OR Dan

Early. Yeah. Yeah, there isn't that forward.

00:30:16 Rob OR Dan

No, but at but at at.

00:30:17 Rob OR Dan

College with A2 drink limit. Nobody's going to go in early to.

00:30:21 Rob OR Dan

Knock out their.

00:30:21 Rob OR Dan

2 beers and.

00:30:22 Ken

No, they're not. They're they're not going to go in early, but I feel like there's still a mentality where they're not going to.

00:30:22 Rob OR Dan

Speaker off.

00:30:28 Ken

To treat their alcohol consumption where they have to get so much alcohol in before they go in because the alcohol will be available.

00:30:37 Ken

To them in the stadium.

00:30:40 Ken

I mean you that it's OK to disagree with me.

00:30:42 Rob OR Dan

I agree with Rob on.

00:30:43 Rob OR Dan

This you know.

00:30:45 Rob OR Dan

I bring it on. I'm right outside ASU. Our games here are normally at 7:00 PM Pacific 7.

00:30:46 Wendy

We usually do.

00:30:52 Rob OR Dan

Dirty. Everyone's out there partying all day. You're not going to stop that from happening. People aren't going to be knocking back Milwaukee's best ice all day to go have two beers inside of the stadium. It's just not going.

00:31:06 Rob OR Dan

To happen so so it it.

00:31:08 Rob OR Dan

Is it's a culture. It really is. People go.

00:31:10 Rob OR Dan

There to do this whole thing.

00:31:12 Ken

But I don't think.

00:31:13 Ken

This is an attempt to eliminate tailgating. I think it's an attempt to eliminate that last.

00:31:20 Ken

Beer you have before, like when I went to the offspring at Pine Knob.

00:31:26 Ken

Two days ago.

00:31:27 Ken

And I had a there too. Ohh hell yeah. Oh my God. And especially I another story. Another time anyway, so we had a crawler of parkers hilltop. I had a crawler of their Vienna.

00:31:28 Rob OR Dan

Big tailgating.

00:31:40 Ken

******. And we started drinking it and we were looking at the the timer on setlist dot FM and it says, you know, usually this band starts at this time and we're like ****, we need to go in. So we're slamming the beers as we're walking into Pine Knob and.

00:31:59 Ken

Now, because I knew I could get beers inside, I'm like, you know what? I don't have to finish this beer. I can just go inside and watch the show and drink a beer. And I I think a lot of it is mentality and thought. I don't think it's. You're not going to stop tailgating, I mean.

00:32:19 Ken

Like looked at look at.

00:32:21 Ken

Dan, we went to go see summer slam like how many people were out and about drinking at bars? Ohh yeah. Up until summer slam.

00:32:27 Ken

Things every single bar was packed of wrestling fans. Yeah, it doesn't matter. The event, it doesn't matter anything. But the fact that you allow alcohol in these stadiums is I, I we've completely hijacked Wendy's article.

00:32:41 Rob OR Dan

Yeah, we are.

00:32:43 Ken

But that's that's that's my point. I'm gonna.

00:32:46 Ken

Pass it back to.

00:32:47 Ken

Wendy to keep talking about our article, I'm sorry.

00:32:49 Wendy

So I'm actually just going to end on what Ken was talking about and I'm going to give my opinion. I agree with the guys that I don't think it's going to stop tailgating, but I do agree with Ken that it will change your mentality, not necessarily right off the bat, but over time it will make people. People will start thinking about the fact that they can't get.

00:33:10 Wendy

Here in the stadium and.

00:33:15 Wendy

Ken, I love the fact that you tailgated you pregamed with the Vienna logger before you went to see you looking offspring. That's the best. So I'm going to let you pass the article on to the next person.

00:33:29 Ken

Uh parkers hilltop.

00:33:30 Ken

I had their spinach artichoke canopies amazing.

00:33:34 Ken

Food up there.

00:33:35 Ken

The beer was great. I had their all beer.

00:33:39 Ken

And yes, yes, there was an all beer, so of course I had it. No, the the beer was awesome. The food was great. I had. I have never ate and drank there. I've had their beer, but I've never ate and drank there. But like it was so good, Rob. Yes.

00:33:57 Ken

Welcome to the show.

00:33:58 Ken

What do you want to talk about today?

00:34:00 Rob OR Dan

OK.

00:34:01 Rob OR Dan

Today, with the fires of the head in Hawaii, I'm going to talk about Garrett Marrero and Maui Brewing are stepping up to support local communities. So basically, Garrett Miller, who is the CEO and Co founder of Craft Ohana, which includes Maori Brewing and Maui Times, and.

00:34:20 Rob OR Dan

Kihei. HI. He's been working to.

00:34:24 Rob OR Dan

Make connections with local charities to get donations to them and help out the people that have been affected by this fire. He stated that 136 of their employees have lost their homes in the fires, which is 40% of their total entire employee count.

00:34:44 Rob OR Dan

Also, Bowie Brewing is setting up a beer called the Kokua Beer, very similar to when Sierra did the Brazilian Speer back in 2018 to help out the wildfire in California, on which they'll release a recipe that.

00:35:01 Rob OR Dan

Any brewery can replicate, sell and donate a portion of their sales or whatever they see fit to the recovery efforts.

00:35:10 Rob OR Dan

In Maui.

00:35:16 Rob OR Dan

So I'll jump on this here. You know I love this. You guys know I spent a lot of time in Hawaii these last few years. This is devastating. What happen.

00:35:25 Rob OR Dan

From there.

00:35:27 Rob OR Dan

And you know, the saying has always been that, you know, Hawaii is a state, but it's treated like a territory. And it really does feel like that even with this. So I'm really glad Maui Brewing, we've had them on the show before. They're amazing people. I think it was a Brewer, Ken, if you can correct me if.

00:35:42 Rob OR Dan

I'm wrong?

00:35:44 Rob OR Dan

That we had on here from.

00:35:44 Ken

Yeah, it was. Kim Bryson Lutz.

00:35:47 Rob OR Dan

Yeah, they're amazing people. And the fact that they're stepping up for this when it feels like a lot of people aren't stepping up for the devastation that's happening there, I really do enjoy this. I'm glad it's happening.

00:35:59 Rob OR Dan

Yeah, it was definitely.

00:36:00 Rob OR Dan

Something that I kind of wondered if they.

00:36:01 Rob OR Dan

Were going.

00:36:02 Rob OR Dan

To present, I had immediately thought of the wildfires in California when those occurred. And so I definitely always feel like that's something that.

00:36:11 Rob OR Dan

The brewing community.

00:36:14 Rob OR Dan

Does embrace is trying to help out?

00:36:17 Rob OR Dan

Areas that people have been affected by things and you know it's just a, a true community to.

00:36:23 Ken

Help out and.

00:36:25 Rob OR Dan

Do something like that.

00:36:27 Rob OR Dan

And we've seen this from other things before. I can't remember the name of it, but New Belgium.

00:36:32 Rob OR Dan

Did that beer?

00:36:33 Rob OR Dan

That was a bad.

00:36:34 Rob OR Dan

Tasting beer. If you guys are.

00:36:36 Rob OR Dan

Called Wendy and Ken.

00:36:38 Rob OR Dan

That it was just, I don't know, was it to stop global warming or whatever it was, but it's really good to see companies step up like this.

00:36:47 Ken

Yeah, it was.

00:36:49 Ken

Torched Earth was the name of the the beer. It was 40 bucks for 2-4 packs, so an 8 pack of 16 ounce cans and the profits went to protect our winners, a Colorado based group devoted to fighting climate change.

00:37:05 Ken

Yeah, I we we've always been proponents of these, these types of beers, beers with the cause, obviously Wendy or professional charity donator, time, donator, volunteer. That's the word I was looking for. Professional volunteer.

00:37:25 Ken

You know, she does a lot with a lot of different organizations. Obviously, when we had Marcus from, whether it's souls on back in 2020.

00:37:35 Ken

Like that. That was for Black is beautiful. Obviously I've worn and and not just like.

00:37:41 Ken

There, there's.

00:37:42 Ken

You know both.

00:37:44 Ken

Geographical there is climate, there is political, there's apolitical, like I have my anti racist beer shirt for rat magnet who got sued by a bunch of breweries for telling everyone stories.

00:38:00 Ken

Breweries. Always.

00:38:01 Ken

Seem to.

00:38:04 Ken

Know where to to do their part and we had it a lot with the feel good tap here in Metro Detroit for a.

00:38:11 Ken

While where a.

00:38:12 Ken

Lot of times a brewery would have a donation for a specific tap handle, go to a charity, but as we had on our Michigan.

00:38:23 Ken

Your series with loaded dice like there are a lot of governmental red tape that occurs.

00:38:29 Ken

When you're trying to donate your your time, money, and effort, specifically the money. When it comes to alcohol, so I'm extremely happy that they were able to start this. I hope that a lot.

00:38:41 Ken

Of breweries start.

00:38:43 Ken

Handling it, I know Kim Briston lets has done a lot within the industry to.

00:38:47 Ken

Where a lot.

00:38:48 Ken

Of people know who she is.

00:38:50 Ken

And want would will want to help her.

00:38:54 Ken

But but as Dan says, I think there's a lot of like, you know, we don't think of Hawaii as our own as often as we should because it is our own. And I think and make it you know it it needs the the push and I think there is a lot of like it kind of happened and that was.

00:39:12 Ken

It the media coverage is not necessarily there anymore. So we just need to.

00:39:18 Ken

Make sure that it.

00:39:19 Ken

It it continues to get there so.

00:39:23 Ken

What is? Do we have a a website that they can look at? Is there a place where you can sign up, Rob?

00:39:34 Rob OR Dan

I would say probably the Maui Berry website would have the most up to date info. They do have four different.

00:39:44 Rob OR Dan

Charities that they are supporting, which is the NBC Fire Fund, which basically helps to meet the cash needs for people who are underinsured, need assistance in these situations where they lost their home and can't cover the insurance costs that they would get that payout.

00:40:04 Rob OR Dan

Check the legacy of Aloha Foundation.

00:40:09 Rob OR Dan

Specific as a Maui.

00:40:11 Rob OR Dan

During foundation and they help.

00:40:14 Rob OR Dan

To displace or cover the cost for those that have been displaced and lots of beginning belongings, the Mackay Foundation, which is local businesses that have banded together to.

00:40:26 Rob OR Dan

Help with the rebuilding efforts and the Hawaii Community Foundation, a local charity that helps to also give funds.

00:40:35 Rob OR Dan

To help people overcome the challenges that they're experiencing with replacing their belongings and finding shelter.

00:40:45 Ken

And if you're listening to this podcast, of course, check out the show notes both on our video and our audio. You'll be able to grab. We grabbed all this information from probrewer.com, which you will be able to get the information should you want to be part of the cause and want to brew a beer for them. I know we got a lot of brewery.

00:41:05 Ken

Friends that are in there, as well as if you wanna donate, those are the donate the places that Maui brewing companies suggest to donate to. They're all 501C3. So they're all tax.

00:41:17 Ken

Credits and of course, as we get to the end of the year, it's the best time to start donating. So if you got some extra money, go and donate.

00:41:27 Rob OR Dan

Yeah. So one more thing I wanted to throw about the last thing too, I'll.

00:41:31 Rob OR Dan

Go for it. Just found this.

00:41:32 Rob OR Dan

Out Maui Brewing actually has a location in Lahaina, so they might also be impacted by this.

00:41:39 Rob OR Dan

Yeah, I I do know that location is closed. Obviously actually have two locations that are closed. There's another one that's pretty close to Lahaina that was also affected from the fires, so.

00:41:51 Rob OR Dan

So yeah, just keep those people in mind because they are our fellow Americans, even though they're 4000 miles away. What I wanted to talk about is, you know, coming up in the week, we have Labor Day.

00:42:02 Rob OR Dan

You know, and it's usually a pretty big celebrated holiday, lot of you guys out there, it is the end of the summer, but interesting article coming out is that we are seeing a significant decrease in people who are going to celebrate only 60% of the people who are questioned are planning to celebrate the holiday. It's a 15% decline.

00:42:24 Rob OR Dan

From 20/22 and.

00:42:28 Rob OR Dan

More than or 86% of those people who are going to celebrate are going to implement money saving feature or measures for this holiday.

00:42:39 Rob OR Dan

So I know we've talked about it before, about the holidays that we think are just dumb because there are a lot of drinking holidays. Are you guys starting to feel the pressure of just not celebrating because of, you know, increasing cost, things like that, you know, beer?

00:42:56 Rob OR Dan

There's always been a saying that people will lower the quality of beer before they'll cut it out. They'll cut out other things. But is this something number one? Are you planning to celebrate Labor Day? #2 are you planning to cut back or lower the cost of what you do for it, Ken?

00:43:09 Rob OR Dan

I'm going to start with you.

00:43:11 Rob OR Dan

Oh, of course.

00:43:14 Rob OR Dan

I always feel.

00:43:17 Ken

Wendy, you mentioned that you.

00:43:18 Ken

Wanted to say something on.

00:43:19 Ken

The last article I want.

00:43:20 Ken

To make sure you.

00:43:20 Rob OR Dan

Get there first. Ohh yeah. Jump in there.

00:43:20 Wendy

Oh yeah, I did. Sorry I was muted and I just wanted to say that I do have family.

00:43:27 Wendy

Hawaii. They're actually on Oahu, and they were actually here when the fire started. And when all that happened. So I just wanted to say that I will definitely be following up and keeping up on all the different fundraisers that are happening and make sure that everybody knows how they can help out because I know that they know their friends and family are devastated.

00:43:52 Ken

Well to follow.

00:43:55 Ken

That up, obviously. That's. Ohh God, it's such a ****** thing over in Hawaii.

00:44:00 Ken

And it it's.

00:44:00 Ken

It's it's. It's something you just can't control. Like we can't control here. The best thing we can do and it it. It sucks. Say it. The best thing we can do is throw money because I have no skills as a beer podcaster to assist the the folks over there. So donations are probably going to be the best way that I can.

00:44:21 Ken

Help for sure.

00:44:23 Ken

But as we get into these holidays for me, and I think this might be a a family thing, but as we get older, like in my family specifically like we are celebrating less and less.

00:44:43 Ken

Another every single year, like in the 90s like.

00:44:47 Ken

Every single birthday.

00:44:48 Ken

We were all together, every single holiday, every.

00:44:51 Ken

Like and when I.

00:44:52 Ken

Say holiday like Thanksgiving Labor Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July. Like it it was all a reason to get together, whereas now I think one because we have.

00:45:03 Ken

A interconnection with everyone that is quick, fast and easy. You don't necessarily need to have that time to meet up, catch up and see what's going on because you know everything that's happened the last 10 years on Facebook.

00:45:19 Ken

So I think that's why a lot of my family personally has stopped doing a lot of these get togethers is simply just because of that. Even with the the want to get together post COVID, I think it's still always going to be now limitations. It's going to be limited, limited to, you know, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter.

00:45:38 Ken

And maybe 4th of July and that's it.

00:45:40 Ken

Like those those.

00:45:41 Ken

Those are the holidays, and that's just when we'll see each other. So I think that if I were to guess, mind you, my stories anecdotal extrapolate that to everyone else and that a lot of people because we see each other, those holidays don't mean anything anymore to a.

00:45:57 Ken

The people we don't need to catch up on Labor Day because you're going to know about what's going on in your grandma's life because she's posted 4 Instagram posts in the last week.

00:46:09 Ken

Like, these are the kinds of things that it.

00:46:12 Ken

It's just a different territory so.

00:46:14 Ken

As holidays come in, I think we're going to see more.

00:46:18 Ken

Or event based meet UPS and what I mean.

00:46:23 Ken

By that is concerts.

00:46:26 Ken

Sporting events like, that's the reason why people are going to meet up and that's the reason why people are going to celebrate is for those events, for those celebrations. So yeah, I think we're not going to.

00:46:38 Ken

Like Dan, I think this is just the start of the decline of these types of events. Memorial Day, Labor Day and even 4th of July. I'll throw in there.

00:46:50 Rob OR Dan

Vote online.

00:46:50 Rob OR Dan

So you know what? July is a big holiday out.

00:46:53 Rob OR Dan

I'll say that, but I want you touched on something. I actually am glad you said. So are you basically saying your family doesn't get together anymore because of social media? So sorry, grandma, I don't need to see you because you posted on Instagram.

00:47:06 Ken

So let's let's add the caveat both matriarchy and patriarchies on both sides of the family.

00:47:14 Ken

Best therefore, my mother and my father are the the highest level, along with their siblings on both sides. So now also I'm kid free my, my sister's kid free, so there's no grandchildren, so this can also be.

00:47:35 Ken

A very you know.

00:47:37 Ken

Well, again, as I mentioned, it's anecdotal like Dan, I know you got kids, you know, Wendy, you got Graham and I know a lot of people want to make sure they spend their time with Graham.

00:47:50 Ken

These things don't exist in my family.

00:47:52 Ken

Because that just doesn't.

00:47:54 Ken

Happen there's no. There's very limited grandkids like.

00:47:57 Ken

Out of all the.

00:47:58 Ken

The my level cousins there ain't.

00:48:01 Ken

Too many lower level cousins.

00:48:05 Wendy

God, we got a million.

00:48:08 Wendy

Which is good because they're all awesome.

00:48:09 Ken

Is there so. So I guess Wendy, are, are you out there celebrating Memorial Day Labor Day 4th of July?

00:48:17 Wendy

So we don't do holidays like that. I was, I was just thinking about everything that you were just saying because we just had our.

00:48:24 Wendy

60th Family reunion and we and 35 people there and like we have people from Hawaii, we have people from all over the United States that come to this family.

00:48:27 Rob OR Dan

OK.

00:48:36 Wendy

So but it's it's not every year that they come, but at least once a year we give them the opportunity to get together. So I don't think it's necessarily social media, it's that we don't.

00:48:48 Wendy

People don't want to travel.

00:48:51 Wendy

To see the same people, I think. I think that's horrible today, but they want to go and do different things and see different. They want to go and do different things and see different.

00:48:56 Rob OR Dan

It's it's a terrible thought.

00:49:01 Wendy

People and and.

00:49:04 Wendy

Kind of explore things I think is more the mindset of the younger generations than we need to all get together all the.

00:49:12 Wendy

Time and most like, what do they care about Labor Day?

00:49:19 Rob OR Dan

I blame me, I also say.

00:49:19 Wendy

You know.

00:49:20 Rob OR Dan

Unofficial end of summer. Go ahead, rob.

00:49:22 Wendy

Isn't important to them.

00:49:24 Rob OR Dan

Is that I. I'd also say I think a lot of younger people especially kind of realize that they don't have to deal with their family if their family isn't.

00:49:34 Rob OR Dan

A positive experience for them. They're not going to go out and say I better travel far distance to come hang out with people that I wouldn't even hang out with them if they weren't related to me.

00:49:47 Ken

I I I think you hit a nail that not many people talk about is the fact that there are a lot of folks in our generations, both Gen. X, Gen. Y millennials, Gen. Z, that are not like ohh you have to because they are the grandma. Ohh you have to because they are the matriarch.

00:50:08 Ken

Like I think a lot of that has started to.

00:50:12 Ken

Change the ohh you have to to where you want.

00:50:15 Ken

To see these people.

00:50:16 Ken

So you'll go and you see them. But Dan, you keep saying the start of the summer.

00:50:21 Rob OR Dan

End of summer it's end of summer.

00:50:22 Ken

And see the end of summer. Thank you. Correct.

00:50:24 Ken

Hate to tell you, but like.

00:50:27 Ken

I have so many people on my.

00:50:29 Ken

Facebook talking about.

00:50:30 Ken

Their kids starting school like 2 weeks ago.

00:50:33 Ken

Summer's over for them.

00:50:35 Rob OR Dan

I mean we.

00:50:35 Rob OR Dan

We start school here in Arizona the first week of August.

00:50:39 Rob OR Dan

So there's that. But but.

00:50:40 Ken

Yeah, summer's over.

00:50:41 Ken

That's the. That's the.

00:50:42 Rob OR Dan

Labor is here.

00:50:43

Honest special official end.

00:50:44 Ken

Of summer is when kids go back to.

00:50:46 Wendy

It used to be the.

00:50:46

School and that's.

00:50:47 Wendy

End of.

00:50:47 Rob OR Dan

When summer begins, he finally gets to enjoy his kids not being at home.

00:50:53 Rob OR Dan

One thing I do want.

00:50:54 Rob OR Dan

To point out from this article just.

00:50:55 Rob OR Dan

Because of what you talked about.

00:50:56 Rob OR Dan

10 is that?

00:50:58 Rob OR Dan

The company that did this survey noted that Gen. Z and millennial consumers actually accounted for much of the growth in liquor sales categories over the last year, but it was driven by the preference.

00:51:11 Rob OR Dan

Or beat box beverages, cut water, spirits and high noon. So while they're not drinking beer.

00:51:18 Rob OR Dan

These last two generations, including Gen. Z, are picking up these RTD's and seltzers, so I don't think they're not drinking as much. I just think they're they're just not drinking as much beer.

00:51:31 Rob OR Dan

As we do.

00:51:33 Ken

So I had to look at what beatbox.

00:51:35 Rob OR Dan

Is I have no idea what beatbox is, but I know the other two so.

00:51:38 Ken

It it, it looks as as trendy as like maybe what 90s for? Loco.

00:51:44 Ken

Would have been.

00:51:47 Ken

They were on Shark Tank and that's just.

00:51:51 Ken

My guess is it it looks like.

00:51:53 Ken

Coconut water bottles, but it's a Leven. Point 1% alcohol by volume.

00:51:58 Rob OR Dan

We're going hard.

00:51:59

It says.

00:51:59 Ken

Try frozen, non carbonated.

00:52:03 Ken

Oh. Oh my God.

00:52:05 Wendy

I don't even know what that means.

00:52:08 Wendy

Just don't go into it.

00:52:10 Ken

OK. I yeah, I mean, what's I I think with all of our articles this week, it really kind of shows a.

00:52:23 Ken

Like both the ebbs and flows of what marketing, media and.

00:52:28 Ken

Stats will tell us because.

00:52:30 Ken

You know my generation, you know your guys generation.

00:52:35 Ken

Gen. Z like.

00:52:36 Ken

We both have seen.

00:52:38 Ken

That they're drinking more and they're drinking less. They're drinking way too much and they're not drinking enough.

00:52:43 Ken

They're drinking this and they're not drinking that.

00:52:45 Ken

Like I I would love to maybe go into a deep dive in a later show to try to understand where all of these kids are drinking, whereas I I don't know, it's just it's just weird because I'm looking at the Article 2 which.

00:53:00 Ken

Of course, go to.

00:53:02 Ken

Our show notes you can see.

00:53:04 Ken

The articles as well.

00:53:06 Ken

I have no idea.

00:53:08 Ken

I don't know. Call me out on.

00:53:08 Ken

My ********, I.

00:53:09 Wendy

Might be just you. You can find report that will support any opinion you have.

00:53:15

That's true.

00:53:17 Ken

My opinion, Dan is super old.

00:53:20 Rob OR Dan

Yeah. Hey, you come out to the Red Wings game out here in March. I'll show you where all.

00:53:24 Rob OR Dan

The kids are drinking at.

00:53:25 Ken

I I did see that it is in March.

00:53:28 Wendy

Have you told them to get off your lawn?

00:53:31 Ken

No, I don't think, Dan.

00:53:33 Ken

Has a lawn. I don't have a lawn.

00:53:36 Wendy

Well, I wouldn't.

00:53:37 Wendy

Either in Arizona, that's a lot of work to keep up.

00:53:40 Rob OR Dan

Yeah, screw that.

00:53:43 Rob OR Dan

Well, any cactus.

00:53:46

2 boulders and a cactus.

00:53:48 Ken

That's going to do it better on draft, the craft Beer news segment for August 25th. My name is Ken for my co-host Wendy, Dan, and Rob, thank you so much for joining us. We appreciate it. We will be back next week to learn about brewery architecture.

00:54:04 Ken

And then we will be off in two weeks for the UP Beer Festival. That's right. I will be at the UP Beer festival. Come say hi. Say hello. I am excited to go and no matter what you think of your beer, we think it's.

00:54:20 Ken

Better on draft, have a.

00:54:21 Ken

Good night. Cheers.
