Dr. Alison Thompson was a first responder on Sept 11th 2001 in NY followed by the 2004 Asian tsunami, Haiti and Nepal earthquakes, Philippine typhoons, Sandy Superstorm and the man-made disasters in the Syrian Refugee crisis. She has developed a network of over 30,000 volunteers, through her organization Third Wave volunteers. Her award-winning documentary The Third Wave chronicles her volunteer experience in the 2004 tsunami and was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in a Presidential Jury Screening presented by Sean Penn and Bono. She followed up with a book by Random House, The Third Wave: A Volunteer Story.
