Summary

Monica Padman, a co-host of Armchair Expert, delves into the abrupt end of her favorite podcast, Nobody's Listening. What she uncovers is a chilling true story involving her beloved podcasters, Elizabeth and Andy, and the unsettling death of a listener. This limited series, Beth's Dead, explores the dark side of fan relationships and Monica's unexpected role as a real-life detective in the unfolding mystery.

Episode description

Armchair Expert's Monica Padman always wondered why her favorite podcasters, Elizabeth and Andy, abruptly ended their show years ago. She assumed they'd say the usual - they got burnt out or busy with other things, but the truth was a story so shocking and creepy that she knew they had to make a show about it... What she couldn't have expected is that in listening to their true life cautionary tale, she'd take on the role of a real-life Nancy Drew and get wrapped up in the mystery as well.

Introducing Beth's Dead and Parasocial Relationships

Introducing Beth Stead, a new kind of true crime podcast. Parasocial relationships are seemingly unavoidable these days, whether with our favorite YouTubers, influencers, or... Podcasters. And sometimes those relationships can become a two-way street. Beth's Dead is a 10-episode limited series exploring what happened to two podcasters when that all went terribly wrong.

Monica Uncovers the Shocking Truth

I'm Monica Padman, co-host and producer of the Armchair Expert podcast. If you listen to Armchair, you've probably heard me talk about my favorite podcasters, Elizabeth and Andy from Nobody's Listening, right? Elizabeth and Andy are my go-to comfort podcasters, and they've been a constant in my ears since 2010. So it was really upsetting when in 2016, they just all of a sudden stopped podcasting.

It was so abrupt, and I always wondered what happened. And when I finally had the chance to ask them about it in person, I was shocked. It's a crazy story. It involves Elizabeth and Andy having their locks changed, the LAPD stepping in, and the death of a listener. When we started this project, our goal was to tell that story. but it ended up taking us on a new path we never could have imagined. Here's a quick glimpse of what's to come on Beth's Dead.

I wish I could give you a hug so bad right now. Elizabeth, I'm surprised to have not heard from you about this development. Andy didn't realize at the time I was also responding to all these people who would write in with questions. Oh, my God. The subject of the email is, you may recognize my vagina. I went through my notes this morning, and I was getting teary-eyed how upsetting it was. Revisiting this has made me uneasy, and then I'm like, if I'm going to find out a bunch of...

bad shit is it going to make me feel more unease. This feels dangerous. I wished I hadn't gotten involved beyond just the podcast. Find Beth's Dead wherever you get your podcasts with new episodes coming out weekly. Or you can go binge it all right now ad-free at patreon.com slash bethsdead.
