Episode description

Stephen Winer is a comedy writer who started out at National Lampoon and went on to be one of the first writers for Late Night with David Letterman. Stephen went on to write for Robert Klein on the USA Network show “Robert Klein Time” as well as The New Mickey Mouse Club. Stephen writes about classic comedy films for the Criterion Collection. It was a pleasure talking with Stephen about writing for different personalities and audiences.

Stephen and I talked about:

-     His choice to become a comedy writer

-     Discovering Calvert DeForest for his film  “King of the Zs” & introducing his as a recurring character on Late Night

-     Working with Robert Klein

-     Writing for children on The New Mickey Mouse Club
