Episode description

On today's episode I talk to guitarist and composer Arto Lindsay. Born in America, Arto grew up in Brazil while the Tropicalia movement was in full swing, and moved back to the states to attend college. Eventually moving to New York, Arto formed the important no wave band DNA in the 1970s, and since then has been part of so many amazing bands and made so much great music that it's tough to discuss it all. Some highlights include being part of John Lurie's The Lounge Lizards, working with John Zorn, forming The Ambitious Lovers, collaborating with Caetano Veloso, and much more. Recently, Northern Spy Records released The Encyclopedia of Arto Lindsay, a two-disc retrospective of his career. This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on iTunes, follow me on Twitter, and check out Olivia Tremor Control's Will Cullen Hart on Thursday's episode!
