Hello, and welcome to the Becker's Healthcare podcast. Today, I'm featuring Tai Wang, cofounder and CEO of Angle Health. Tai, welcome to the podcast. Thank you for having me here. Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself and your organization? Yeah. So I'm the cofounder and CEO of
Angle Health. My background, primarily from a tech and engineering background. So, before starting Angle Health, my cofounder and I, we both, led teams at Palantir across many industries. But, if you're familiar with the organization, health care is one of Palantir's biggest verticals. So before that, both of us have engineering backgrounds
as well. Angle Health is an AI driven health care organization where we offer fully customizable health plans, primarily level funded for small and medium sized businesses. So from improving member experience and expanding value based care to controlling costs, payer executives have ambitious growth goals for the rest of 2024 and the year ahead. In your role, what's your top priority, and how are you planning to get there?
Yeah. Many of our top priorities obviously, growth is is always a priority as you mentioned. And and we've been growing massively 3 to 5 x year over year over the past couple years since we launched here.
And we wanna continue that trend, but really focusing in on, I think, now a lot of the strategies that really get the members and the patients the care that they need when they need it to to really help improve the health outcomes and and and control the costs when it comes to when it comes to these members and when it comes to their access to care.
And I think one thing that we found a lot of in in this journey is that and it I think it's something that's fairly obvious is that a lot of members during their care journeys, they are really looking for help in navigating the health care system. And the even having a primary care provider or having an oncologist, if they're facing, like, a series of treatments for cancer or anything like that. There's they're very lost after leaving the
doctor's office. So one of the big initiatives that we really focus on, and that that we really have been investing in is is providing that level of high touch experience for all of our members, but especially for those that are that are in these kind of complex situations or have these chronic diseases that really need and and and want some support in that. So at an industry level, how would you describe the biggest barriers to effectively serving and engaging members?
And, what opportunities do you see for large scale improvements, and how are you applying this in your current strategies? Yeah. I think one of the biggest barriers when it comes to effectively engaging and serving members
is the methods to engage them. And, really, I think I think this is this is true across the board is really identifying today, we know that there's been this explosion of new ways of receiving medical services, especially when it comes to things like digital health programs, chronic disease management programs, behavioral health programs, things like that. But they're not effective for
everyone. These programs are effective for the right profile of members and patients, but not for but not necessarily for everyone in identifying who these profile of patients are and being able to engage them and direct them to to these programs, educate them, and incentivize them to leverage them is, I think, one of the biggest challenges. And for us, we we're a technology first
company. We have AI and machine learning really driving everything, that we do across our health plan operations and being able to take take the data and and and surface these insights, be able to match members and patients to these programs is is something that we've that we've been investing in that and that will continue to do and and is very core to our strategy today. So keeping pace in today's dynamic health care
landscape is challenging to say the least. What's one piece of advice you'd like to share with peer leaders to grow their businesses, while keeping members top of mind? Yeah. I think what you mentioned there, keeping members top of mind, I think that is extremely important, something that for us at Angle Health is a question that we ask ourselves every day and and with every decision that we make. We are a very member focused company. Is this initiative? Is this product?
Is this in the member's best interest? And that really drives is is at the core of of everything we do and and and drives a lot of our decision making at Angle Health. And I think today, there's all of these new innovative, creative, whether it's cost structures or financing structures or types of insurance products. But I think it's sometimes easy to get
lost in that. But but, really, I think focusing on and and and going back to centering yourself on on kind of that question of is is this really in the member's best interest? So how is technology supporting value based care or member focused initiatives at your organization? And kinda what what are you most excited about when it comes to technology in your organization?
Yeah. The what we're most excited about is being able to really capitalize on kind of this new acceleration in technology and in AI where I think we're entering really a new era of what technology is capable of. And for us, we rebuilt really this whole kind of health plan stack
or infrastructure from the ground up. We have very integrated data, very connected data infrastructure that enables us to leverage tools like AI and machine learning across the board and and and and really kind of take advantage of of these new advancements in technologies in a very responsible way to unlock both,
operational efficiencies. So being able to operate at the scale that we are today with tens of thousands of members with a very lean team while also being able to drive the the insights and the engagement needed for true kind of high touch experience and and preventative care. Perfect. Well, Ty, thank you so much for joining us on the show today. But before I let you go, is there anything else you'd like to leave for our listeners?
Yeah. I I think, the the just really reiterating what I mentioned before where there's a lot of hype around a lot of a lot of new creative products and and technologies as well. But, really, I think for the benefit of of our industry, of of the people of of this country and the health care system, it's really about getting back to that individual and and thinking about what is best for the individual and and how can we enable them to make the best choice for themselves as
possible. Perfect. Well, Ty, thank you again for joining us today at the Becker's Health Care Podcast, and have a great rest of your day. Appreciate it. Thank you.
