EP#4 - Steady Rockin' - The Aretha Samples

So… I had a totally different show in the works for this week until the untimely news that the Queen of Soul as we know it passed away last week so I got inspired by the Aretha Franklin poster in my studio to do some research and find all the songs that sampled her in some way shape or form. I found out that some of the grimiest, best and classic songs of my lifetime used her music as well as some new discoveries that I was unaware of. This mix is a celebration of Aretha’s music & her profound impact on Hip-Hop since the very beginning stages as well as a tribute to some great producers in the game like DJ Premier, Kanye West, Havoc, Prince Paul, Erick Sermon, Ayatollah, DJ Muggs & Q-Tip to name a few. Whether it was a bassline, piano chop, a simple sound from one of her incredible musicians or a vocal clip sped up or otherwise chopped and flipped…every song on this mix has a piece of Aretha in it.
