Episode description

Rachel Read is a mother of five who is raising awareness of sex education curriculum content in South Australian schools and advocating for parental involvement in education.

Rachel decided to become a member of the governing council of her childrens' school in the Eyre Peninsula. Concerned about the curriculum material, she met with other parents to discuss what their children were being exposed to in classrooms and found that they shared her concerns. However, the school told her she would be "formally disciplined" and have to attend respect-building workshops.

On this episode of BASED, Senator Antic and Rachel Read discuss her experience of seeking curriculum transparency and working with other parents to challenge the system.
