The Setup

Bryan EntzmingerBryan Entzminger

In case you missed my last message, that's how this week's bad podcast pitch starts out. It comes from my friend Mike Wilkerson of Two Guys Talking. This is Bad Podcast Pitches. I'm Bryan Entzminger. This isn't a name and shame show. It's a show where we look for some of the bad pitches that we all get as podcasters, podcast editors, podcast producers. We highlight some of the unexpected risks and also talk about what could have been better,

potentially. So I'm going to go ahead and read the pitch, and then we'll read Mike's comment and I'll add some of my thoughts. So

The Pitch

here we go. Mike, I wanted to reach out to you one last time in case you missed my last message. We have a family office that contacted us inquiring about purchasing companies in Two Guys Talking Podcast Networks space. Is there any appetite from your side to at least explore what they would be able to offer you for your company? Thank you. And then this person gives their name. And of course, this is not a name and shame show, so

I'm not going to cover that. Sounds fun though, right? Somebody wants to buy Mike's company. Here are Mike's thoughts. He says, I get about five of these a month that sound almost exactly the same. That's actually kind of deflating if you think about it. Now, in my view, there's nothing specifically wrong with a little bit of prospecting. But here are some questions. Does this person actually have a buyer? Well, maybe,

but did they do any research? I mean, what companies in the Two Guys Talking Podcast Networks space do they think might want to sell? I mean, it's a podcasting company and it's kind of the company. But here's the kicker. Like I said, Mike gets several of these a month. So it seems pretty clear that this isn't a genuine offer, or at least it could be. But what are the

My Thoughts

odds? Now, let's talk about what could have been better. Well, first of all, if this isn't real, and I'm not convinced it is, maybe just a bit of honesty. But even if it is real, it's pretty obvious that it's not a very targeted thing if he gets several of these a month that are basically copy and paste. So

let's talk about what could have been better. Maybe some honesty, maybe some research, maybe a little bit of record keeping about previous contacts, and maybe a little bit more detail, like why they're interested, so that maybe there's at least a little bit of weight behind the claims. Because for Mike, as a business owner, why would he even think that he should take this seriously? I just don't even know. So that's all for this one. I do want to mention

I talked about this on the last episode. I am trying out some new features, so I'm recording a video right now. My hands are waving all over the place and I'm talking to a teleprompter. If you want to see what that looks like, you can try checking out the show at TrueFans FM. That seems to be the podcast platform that's doing the best right now with rendering this kind of video. And as far as this show, next time we're going to have one from another listener's mailbag that seems to start

off by just completely misrepresenting history 3. It's a pretty fun one. If you have a pitch that you'd like me to share, send that to Pitches at Bad Post. I can't say it Badpodcastpitches. Com pitches@badpodcastpitches.com I'm Bryan Entzminger This has been Bad Podcast Pitches. I hope you're having a great time.
