Ever wonder what a truly weird podcast pitch looks like? I received a ranking email with our top keywords and positions, but it lacked explanation or a call to action—just a link to the full data. Weird...

All right, I've got an interesting one for you today. Actually, it's a little bit confusing, and I'll share that for you in a minute. This is Bad Podcast Pitches. I'm Bryan Entzminger. This is a show where we talk about some of the bad, or in this case, weird pitches that we get as podcast hosts and podcast producers. We talk about what's right, what's wrong, that kind of stuff. And today, I've got a bad pitch for you, but also, I've got a little bit of something extra.

This will be probably pretty quick, but anyway, here we go. I'm gonna read it to you. Hi, Bad Podcast Pitches appeared in our search crawler. Then it gives some Apple Podcast Rankings. It gives the keyword and the rank. The keyword podcast pitches is number one. Podcast pitch is number one, and podcast show pitches is number seven. And then for full data, it gives a website address, but of course, I'm not gonna share that because this is not a name and shame show.

Now, if you remember, about a month ago, give or take a little bit, I was running a promotion. We had worked with a podcast promoter who was promising all kinds of things. We ran a test. I did a couple episodes on that. This came while I was doing that. So it's no surprise that I had some really good rankings during that time. However, this to me is really confusing because it's just like, hey, you showed up on our results. Here's some results. And then just a link.

There's no call to action or anything like that, which I guess I kind of appreciate that they're not trying to force something. But it's really kind of weird. I guess it worked because I did go check out the website. I wasn't interested in paying for anything extra, but it was kind of an interesting pitch. Kind of confused me a little bit. At first, I thought it was somebody trying to sell me rankings to be quite honest, instead of sharing with me what they were seeing.

But it's kind of neither here nor there. But that's what I saw. I'll have another pitch for you when we come back for our next episode. It'll be a little bit more normal. Before I go, I wanna share though, I am doing something different today. And part of the reason I'm sharing this episode is because I wanted to test something out. The podcast media hosts that I've been using, podhome.fm, just I think as of today has added support for video as well as audio.

So I can have an episode that has an audio version and a video version. And if you're subscribed in a podcast app that can support the video version, the way that they've made it available, then you can watch me talk to a teleprompter, which is maybe not the most engaging experience, but it's something that you can do.

And I think it's something that might be interesting for other podcasters who are interested in audio and video, but they don't wanna have the algorithm of YouTube in the way of that relationship. So that's something that's available. From a technical standpoint, there are some ways that they make this happen that are super cool. Not everybody supports it yet. It's kind of new, almost on the cutting edge, probably is the cutting edge. But if you wanna check this out, take a look at my faces.

I'm trying to talk to a teleprompter and moving my hands all over the place like a madman. Go to podcastapps.com and look for a podcast app that supports what's called the alternate enclosure, because that's how they're delivering this video file. And then you'll wanna make sure that the one that you choose also supports video, because of course, not all of them do. It's a little bit new. Not everybody's gonna support it yet.

But this, if you have an app like that, will give you the ability to do a video version as well as an audio version by the same show. I think, I didn't do the research I should have, but I think that fountain.fm supports this. I'm pretty sure that truefans.fm supports this in their app as far as a viewing or listening experience. I think iHeart will in the future. I'm not sure about the others.

But anyway, just go to podcastapps.com and choose yourself an app and give it a try if you're interested. Of course, you don't have to. Like I said, I'll have a more traditional pitch for the next episode. That'll be one that our friend Mike Wilkerson sent. And we'll take a look at that bad pitch. It's a doozy. And we'll have a lot of fun. In the meantime, I'm Bryan Entzminger. This is Bad Podcast Pitches. Thanks so much.
