Episode description

Have you ever considered surrogacy, been interested in being a surrogate, or just curious about how the whole process works? This week we're chatting to the incredible Sarah Jefford about all things surrogacy!

Sarah Jefford OAM is a surrogacy and donor conception lawyer and lives in Melbourne with her partner and two children. Sarah was an IVF mum and later became an egg donor and a surrogate, delivering a baby for two dads in 2018. Sarah produces the Australian Surrogacy Podcast, and has written a book, More Than Just a Baby, a guide to surrogacy for intended parents and surrogates.

In this chat we cover what surrogacy is, how the surrogacy process works in Australia and some of the laws surrounding this. We also chat about what level of involvement a surrogate usually has after the child has been born, and where to start if you're looking into surrogacy. Sarah shares her own experience of being a surrogate, finding the right family and how it felt going through the surrogacy process herself.
