>> Chris Dechter: This is AV Super Friends Perspectives, a collection of interviews, discussions and presentations from conferences, trade shows and events that just don't fit either of the other two shows. Some are long, some are short, but they'll all have valuable insights, useful information, or just good conversation with thought leaders and subject matter experts. And now, the AAV Super Friends.

>> Jamie Rinehart: Hey, folks, Jamie here with another Perspective interview from the show floor of Infocom 2020 25. And I, I came. I came here and I was looking specifically for this company at some point while I was here, and I finally caught up with them. but it's Turtle av. They've come on with a splash in the last year. >> Eamon Drew: Yeah, we launched in January, so. >> Jamie Rinehart: Yeah, in January. Yeah. So they. And it

was a. It was a big splash. It came out of nowhere. So I'm joined now by, Eamon Drew, from Turtle av. And you're kind of one of the masterminds here. >> Eamon Drew: Yeah, so we started. I started with my friend Pavel. He's the genius behind the products, and somehow I end up doing all the media stuff. but, yeah, he did pass you off fast. >> Jamie Rinehart: I'm like, hey, you really interested? We're always interested in media. Here's Eamon.

>> Eamon Drew: Yeah, no, he really did. So, that's okay. I like doing it as well. But, yeah, as a company, we're a new company. We've been in development for a long time. M in the background. But we launched publicly, January 15th, this year. And three weeks later, we're at the Big Ise show in Barcelona, launching the products to the world, in person. And we were lucky enough to win three Best of Show, awards, for the products we've

made. And, yeah, it was a really great show. And now Here at Infocom 2025, we've won another two Best of Show awards. So it's kind of a little bit surreal. It's all happening really fast. it's been great. >> Jamie Rinehart: So what made you want to start this? What was the drive in starting? These are the kind of questions I'm like, because you started another business, we. >> Eamon Drew: Don'T have to go into that one.

>> Jamie Rinehart: But why this one? Why did you get into the end points like this? >> Eamon Drew: Yeah, we've been, It's a big question. I'm trying to work out how to answer it, you know, in the most succinct way. But really, we've been in love with Dante Audio, because we all are. but we've been sort of. We saw that there was this no one had really sort of taken Dante Ava to the level it deserves to be at. And so we were strategizing around

products and what we could make. And really AVA is the foundation of the company. It's our flagship product line, the Chassy AVA series. And yeah, look, Pavel came to me with his product ideas and all the rest of it and we started talking about what we could make and we decided to go for it. And yeah, so here we are. I don't know. People ask me what the driver is. I don't know other than just, hey, let's try and see how we go. Right.

>> Jamie Rinehart: Well, I mean, but I think that's a valid point, right? You saw a protocol that could be useful and I think that's what interested me. That's what shocked me when I saw the announcements before was, look, Dante av, the video side of it was announced and just kind of stagnant. Nobody was doing anything with it. So, from an end user's perspective, like what, why? So what did you see in it? >> Eamon Drew: Obviously I got a bit of experience with AV over

IP formats. M if you search my name or whatever, you can find out the previous company. But they were the first company to put NDI in a silicon chip. So there's a lot of development. but with avi, it's sort of like this beautiful Goldilocks format that ticks all the boxes and it's been hiding in plain sight. It's been out for more than a year now. And it just has massive benefits. it's cost savings for end customers. The quality is really good. It's super low latency. It's 4K 60,

444 HDR 10 bit. It's got HDCP built in advanced EDID management so you can make sure you're not getting any black frames on screens and all that fits on a 1 gigabit pipe. My history is my first company out of high school. I was working for a company that imported video editing systems. And I still Remember when Adobe Premiere 1 was released. So that'll give you an

idea of how old I am. M and yes, I've been looking at video for a long time and honestly I can't see the difference between the original and the compressed version using ava. and then on top of that it carries like two channels of DANTE audio. It shows up in DANTE controller which we all know how to use. So being able to work with AVA is actually really easy. So it's kind of like it's goldilocks format and then deeper than that because on a chip level, Dante AVA uses an soc,

not an fpga. it means that the power draw is really low. So we can fit everything on a single POE cable. there's no heat, so we don't need fans. So we can build fanless endpoints. So putting them behind screens and under tables and in board rooms and things like that is okay. and then, yeah, because of the low power draw, there's a huge savings on electricity, which I know is a bit boring, but

yeah. The total cost of ownership of an AVA system versus something that runs on FPGA could be up to $20,000 across 100 endpoints in five years. So for people who are looking for a new system over a five year. Most people look in five year chunks. so they'll roll out a new system if they go. Ava and Turtle, they could save a lot of money just on the electricity as well.

>> Jamie Rinehart: I also found it very interesting. one of the other things that caught my eye was you have the controller box. >> Eamon Drew: Yes. >> Jamie Rinehart: Where you put controller as a web inter. Tell me how you know. >> Eamon Drew: Yeah. >> Jamie Rinehart: What's the. I love this idea. >> Eamon Drew: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So this is the, Honestly, this is kind of the foundation of the companies and that's the kind of the glue that

pieces it all together. And that's all my co partner Pavel's idea. So basically, Dante we've built DANTE controller into hardware, which means you can open it up on a web browser from any device on the network. It could be a phone, iPad, computer. and then that, that means you don't have to run a computer running the DANTE controller software. And I know that I've just said you open it on a computer, but, the advantage is you've then

got full API support. So you can program up your entire DANTE network with Q sys or Crestron Control 4 or whatever your favorite programming language is from our, API. And so we'll work on some plug ins for QSYS and Crestron, over time. But yeah, at the moment you can control it with the API so you can change all of your routing. You can program up a touch panel and one button routing changes and all that kind thing, which kind of really wasn't overly easy to do in the past.

>> Jamie Rinehart: Yeah, Well, I think it's exciting, that you guys kind of took this and ran with it. I think it's a new perspective. I agree with some of the awards. >> Eamon Drew: Thank you, I appreciate that. >> Jamie Rinehart: You know, you piqued my interest. I sorted you out and you guys got Shaft. You're way down the hall. >> Eamon Drew: Yeah. Well, let's start up life. >> Jamie Rinehart: You know, it was worth the walk.

>> Eamon Drew: Okay, well, thank you. >> Jamie Rinehart: Right. To come and talk to you guys and to kind of go through it. And I encourage, you know, our listeners, to check it out. So where can they find you? Online? >> Eamon Drew: Yeah, so it's pretty easy. It's turtleav.com. yeah, check us out. All of the product information's up there. If anyone's got any questions, they can ping us an email from the helloturtleav.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we possibly can.

>> Jamie Rinehart: Well, thanks for taking a few minutes out of your busy weekend and, having this recording. And maybe we can give you another shout out later on. >> Eamon Drew: Yeah. Stoked to do it. Thank you so much for coming by. >> Jamie Rinehart: Thanks a lot. >> Chris Dechter: Well, that wraps up another episode of AV Super Friends

Perspectives. If you have a perspective to share, you can contact us with questions, topic ideas, or General complaints@mailbagvsuperfriends.com. >> Larry: Nice work, everyone. Sharp broadcast.
