Jesus: God's Unmerited Grace

In this week's text, we see the story of two brothers in competition and conflict even before they were born, but we see no clear example, no hero. Both Jacob and Esau were sinful, messed up men who are not worthy of emulating. But in the midst of this, the story points to Jesus as God's unmerited and undeserved grace.

Jesus: the Lamb of God

In this week's text, we see a final test of faith for Abraham, the sacrifice of his beloved son Isaac. Through this, we continue to see the faithfulness of God in the midst of test and trial. In the same way that God provided the sacrifice for Abraham and Isaac on top of Mt. Moriah, he has also given us Jesus, the Lamb who died so we don't have to.

In this week's text, we see Abraham, father of the Hebrew nation, a man who's faithfulness is counted as righteousness, promised and tested. And while he is faithful we also see many times he is faithless but that God is always faithful. This narrative is in fact about God's faithfulness to Abraham and Abraham's faithfulness to repent to God.
