Transcript

Hey, this is Sandy. And Randy? And we're here on at Corner. Being an Athai trainer comes with ups and downs, and we're here to showcase it all. Join us as we share our world in sports medicine. Welcome back to another episode of At Corner. For this week's episode, we have a story episode that's going to match the vibe of the holidays. We are doing a last minute, literally last minute gift guide this year and we are hitting, I know we've done gift guides before, but we are hitting so

many different avenues. I think this time first we're going to hit some favorite gifts that people have received. I feel like that's a, that's a pretty good one. And actually the number one answer I think last year wasn't even on there. I want to say now I'm excited about that. And then we're going to be talking about AT businesses, So AT owned businesses, how to support other a TS. We're going to be talking about like stuff like Etsy shops and like stuff like that.

I mean, who do you actually buy gifts for? Oh nice. So there's a lot jam packed in this episode. It might be pretty quick though, so we'll see. We'll see how it goes. So anyway, going back to that cliffhanger, I kind of left. What do you think the number one gift was this year that people said their favorite gift was? Feel. Like it's gotta be anything warm.

Yes, yes, Last year I think, I don't remember, I didn't go back and listen, but I feel like I was talking all about how much I loved my rechargeable hand warmers. Like that is my favorite thing of the winter. It is absolutely my favorite thing if to know me is to know that I love my rechargeable hand warmers. But the number one answer we got was actually a heated vest. Smart. People loved their heated vest like people gave them. People received them.

Nice. I I had a colleague of mine when when he would work like high school football, he would wear the venom underneath. That's funny. Underneath his jacket. Keep them warm. I was like, yeah, that's brilliant and comfy. We've given a venom. We have we have given a venom as a gift. The back venom, that's a good one. Anything warm? Honestly people, people said. Heated vests, rechargeable hand warmers. When you work in the elements.

Yeah, You know, it's actually also a good gift that I feel like is not too pricey. Rain pants. Oh, that is a good gift. For people who work outside, yeah, it has been a game changer for me because when I have to kneel on my knees when I'm going out to an athlete in my in the rain, my knees get all wet like, oh. Oh yeah, that sucks. But then when you have rain pants like Game Changer, you don't even think about. It wet knees, yeah. I've actually used them a lot.

That's good and if you're small enough you can fit in the kids sizes and they're like half the cost. That's always a benefit. And then another top gift that we got was a nice thank you card or photo gifts. Photo gifts are cool. They are cool and I feel like they're really affordable too. The only problem is like you actually have to take photos. Yeah, and if you're not good at that, like like me, then you don't get a lot of photos. Yeah, I feel like some some it yeah, it really depends.

But they are nice. They are fun because it's fun to look back and be like, oh, remember this? It's like so many memories. Yeah, photos are like one of my favorite things. Yeah. So our first submission was from Haley Kay. She said she got Super Pros and Lippmann stethoscope as a student. I know me as a student would have went nuts for that. Yeah. Oh yeah, especially super pros. And then get a big time stethoscope. Oh yeah. And Seeka said Seeka G said that her Super Pro scissors were

engraved with her name. That's dope. And then so I was like, whoa, that's really cool. I don't know, like even where you get that done, she said. You can get it done where in places where you get trophies made or even Jewelers can usually do them. That's where she's gotten them done in the past. Well, I feel like that's a really great student gift too. That is a really good student gift, 'cause. I mean super pros are expensive though so I guess it depends on

who's paying. Yeah, I mean, it is a nice gift though for for the student. I mean, I get it. Like if now if you have like multiple students, OK, that might be right. That might get expensive. But if it if it's really if you just have one student like, I could see that being something something that's doable. Something that my that Juan, my Co head does is he gives everyone a multi tool pen, like a tactical pen.

That's dope. It has like a, it has technically a pen light, but like you can't really use it as a pen. It's more like a flashlight 'cause it's so bright, but it also has like a screwdriver and like a glass breaker and some like a bottle of, I don't know, like a bunch of stuff. And then it also comes to like this thing that we call like the credit card that has like a bunch of different tools on a credit card.

Kind of like shape. And we use that to like pull the Velcro off the ear masks, the I mean the ear pads, the cheek pads. That's pretty cool. Plus also you you always need as an AT you always need a good multi tool because you never know when you got to fix the easy up and the multi tool's great for that. I feel like a multi tool would be a really great gift too. Yeah, it is, especially if you prefer an AT man. And also I feel like that's a great gift to give.

I don't know if you guys are the same, but I feel like for me, a multi tool, like I, I've wanted a multi tool for a long time, but I, I won't buy one because like it overwhelms me with how many options there are and I don't know which one that I want. So like if someone gave one to me it would just be like oh cool like that. 'D be a lot easier. Yeah, like I don't have to choose. It's like in and out where like they, they're, they're the. Menu's pretty simple.

Exactly. Not a lot of options. It makes you happy because you don't have, you're not overwhelmed. I still have super pros that I was given as a student. Yeah, I actually me too. I mean, they're dull. I have one that some that are pretty dull. I need to we need to sharpen them. Yeah. We need to find a place to sharpen them. I don't know where you go to do that. Oh, you know what? I wonder if a scissor sharpener

would be a good gift? It would, but I feel like you got to make sure it fits the cause. Like a lot of our scissors have the blunt end right? So then it can't go in at least the one the scissor sharpener. There are some. There are some that are just like A2, like a single. Like cylinder? Oh, that's cool. So yeah, I guess it depends on what you, which one you get or, but then also it's like, well, which one's better professionally sharpened or yourself? How does that cost?

I don't know, potentially so many questions potentially look into that, that might be. That might have to be a question of the week. Yeah, Seekaji also said. For my certified intern this year I got him some game day shoes that he's been eyeing so we'll be matching on the sidelines. Oh, that's really dope. So so gear was also another like top gift idea that people.

Were pretty dope yeah you know the more like because like I have like for my indoor games I have like Cole Hans and stuff like that but the more I see like these people wear like air forces and like really nice basketball shoes I'm like that's pretty dope and I'm like I don't know if I could pull that off. Do you want really nice basketball shoes? I don't know. I saw our women's head coach the other day and I was like, wow, those are the pretty fire.

But then I'm like, I don't know if I can pull that off. I don't know. I've never worn those types of shoes so I don't know if I could actually pull them off. You have some pretty nice Nikes. You don't have any air forces, Yeah. I feel like my guys get kick out of it though. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean especially if you personalize it to your school colors. True, yeah. Our football coaches, some of them have like the Air Force ones with the the like our school colors.

Oh, that's dope. They are so nice. That's really cool. You want to read this anonymous one? Yes one of my seniors walked in with a couple of 6 packs of Doctor Pepper and I legit cried. Just a random sweet gesture at the right time lol. That's. So sweet. That's really sweet. I said to be seen as to be loved. Yes, my both athletes and athletic training students, I get little duckies. Oh yeah. I get more duckies.

I don't know, I haven't been to your ATR in a while, but I feel like it's going to be. I don't know if you have more space for them anymore. Yeah, I'm running out of room on that little ledge that I have because now I'm on the bottom part that actually faces the athletic training room. So my next game plan is if that fills up, I'm going to have to probably start doing the lights, like have them on top of the lights. Oh my gosh, that's.

Probably the next spot. I mean, it hasn't even been that long for you to get that many ducks. No, yeah, everyone just springs in ducks. It's going to, yeah. It's going to be exponential, yes. It's been great. And oh, you know what, it's always really cool is like, so we just finished up a a women's basketball tournament and all the other teams always like they walk by the Ducks. Like, Oh my gosh, the Duck. Everyone loves the Ducks. Oh, you're brightening people today.

I do my best. I feel like I the the best gift, honestly, like we could put this gift guide together for like we could put literally the best gifts. You know that people say, but really it's like, it's how well do you know that person? Like if you're able to, even the smallest gift, if you pick out something that like is them, that is so thoughtful. And I think that really like it's so cliche, like it's the thought that counts, but really like you really don't have to spend that much.

I, I actually asked on our stories like, do you prefer like something handmade? Do you prefer something purchased? Like, does it matter? Most people said it doesn't matter. Oh, that's nice. Yeah, that's true. It really is the thought like even like students like I've had, like some of my basketball guys just buy me a Snickers. I know. Seriously. Like. Just a candy. I'm like, oh, that was really nice. Thanks man. Honestly didn't have to.

One of my football players, I cleared him for like cleared him to play. And like, I use this story because I just absolutely like love it. And the especially because like I, I feel like, you know, there are some teams like that will give you like thank you cards or like put together like photo gifts or like a little like whatever, like signed ball or like whatever. But I feel like ever since I've worked with football, their way to show love is through food. Like it is absolutely through

food. Like I have like worked with people and like, I like my guys will give me like one guy gave me like Panda Express one day, like randomly. And then like I had someone who like, made like steak and like lobster and like put like this whole thing together and brought it to me and like told me all about like, the, like, it was pretty fancy. Yeah. It was so fancy. And then like, just the like, that is their way of like showing love.

And I cleared this one guy and he was like holding this like one of those like naked juices, like the smoothie, like fruit smoothie. And he just like put it on my desk. And then like walked away, immediately walked away. And I was like, oh, hey, like you forgot this. And he was like, and I was like, is this wait, is this for me? And and then he's like, uh huh. Just like walks away. It's like that's his way. So weird, so random. I felt so loved.

That's that's funny. But really, honestly, like food, I feel like food is a really good way to like good gift. If you're if you're good at cooking, unlike me, or good at baking, unlike me, then you like that is like a like also like pretty inexpensive. You know, I know some people who do like, like the cookie. Like bins for everyone. Oh yeah, or like Christmas fudge. Oh yeah. Larika H said I did boxes of homemade cookies and zebra popcorn this year.

Oh, that's cool. Also, she sent in a picture. So I have look at look at this. We're going to put it on our Facebook group. Oh, that's cool. Doesn't that look amazing? Yeah. That looks amazing. Seriously. Oh. I'm hungry Now that looks good. Yeah, so that's like something you want to read this one from Leah. Yes, Leah says. I'm all for bartering, to be honest, but I as a clinical AT have a patient that literally brings me a cooler fresh fish when he comes to the office. It's amazing.

That sounds amazing. The fishermen are very forward in their love for fishing. I'm from a beach town in Florida and also grew up fishing, so as soon as I mentioned that we are fast friends, exchange lots of stories and I get fish, that's

pretty cool. Seriously, isn't it like, I feel like it's so some people are like, so hard to shop for because I feel like it's even like the people sometimes, like, you know very well, but like, sometimes if you can just hold on to 1 thing that you know about them, But then also on the other end of that, you get like, you get those, you know, those memes, They're like, I told my mom that I liked owls once and now, like, everything owls, Yeah.

That's cool about the fish. I'm one of my former athletes promised me catfish and I'm still waiting for this catfish. So still burned by that. But yeah, no food is a good one. I have some athletes who's like like they their mom or like family member makes like homemade spam masubi. And like every now and then, like when it whether it's a swim meet or basketball, 'cause I have both those athletes, like both those athletes play one of those sports and sometimes I'll

bring them during the meets. I'm like just 'cause I let them know. Oh, I love spam Masubi. Something that we got this year was an AT Daily journal, athletic training, Daily Journal and. It's so cool. It's actually by our partner clinically pressed actually, actually, I don't know if it's through clinically pressed. I think it's technically through Joel Lucci and Rick Cox. They, they authored that

together. And we have it actually, I think on the shelf in front of us. They it's, it's a great gift, honestly for a professional or a student, yes, and I just kind of like look through it and it's great for like self reflection or like leadership. There's like there's like prompts and stuff about like communication, like self reflection. And it's a really cool thing. It's super cool. And the fact that it's made by athletic trainers for athletic trainers, it has been a great

tool. And I think that especially if you are someone either who journals or someone who's looking to get into more journaling or even like if you don't even want to write in yours, but you can just like look at it and just like prompt it for you to think about like it's or even like use with your students or it's such a great

tool. And I feel like there are so many like hidden resources like this that I feel like this is something that like we've come across luckily, but I feel like more people need to know about this. And I think this could be so, so big. Oh, for sure, yeah. I think that like it's a really good 'cause it's really hard for some people to like self reflect. Like like everyone has some self reflection, but it's like if you don't know how to, it could be

really hard. So the the AT Daily Journal does a really good job of giving you prompts to kind of think about and it kind of drives that kind of thought process. Absolutely. Yeah, it gives you at least a starting spot. Right. Yeah, I think it's a really cool. It's a really cool thing. Yeah. Something to check out anything that we talk about in here that actually has like a product to it.

First of all, we're not sponsored by any of these except that we are affiliated with clinically pressed I guess, but but we are going to put everything in the show notes. So if you want any links and stuff that would just Scroll down, find those things and then support some other a TS, some other things that I found along the way or some things that I've gotten, I've gotten an AT coloring book. That's really cool, I. Think it was called like.

Hey, some people like coloring as like a way of like decompressing. Oh, absolutely, Absolutely. It was from our softball coaches. After we won state, they gave us this picture of us, like the three of us. And it was it's almost like on like a a wooden, like a wooden print. So we have it's such a nice print. We have it up in our like right outside of our office.

That's cool. And then they gave us this AT coloring book and I think it's it's called something like things a TS wish they could say or something like something. Oh my gosh, that's funny. Yeah, I posted on our stories,

but I'll link it down below too. Yeah, so that AT coloring book, which is just like, you know, anything that's like personalized, I feel like, yeah, something else like that would be great for like a future clinician or like or not or like one of your coworkers or something is a kit organizer. I know I've made you a couple. Yes, and they're great. Everyone loves them too when they see them. Yeah, if you're handy, like if, if you can or I guess if you're

crafty. I sewed a couple like I just actually what I used, I used some, I think I just looked up like some diaper bag fabric patterns, patterns or sewing patterns. But you can also probably just buy some also like I know Nexus does. He has like like different patches and pouches and like little things. Not specifically kit organizers but Nexus is another one. I know I don't think we would have to mention Nexus cause Nexus is so big now, but. I got the. I got the Firefly.

Yeah, we both have the Firefly love it, but they if you somehow have been living under a rock and don't know who Nexus is, they Jay, he's an athletic trainer. He makes these kits. He also has pen lights and patches. I don't know if those are as

popular. I mean, I'm not sure, but I feel like the pen lights would make a really good gift, especially cause like our tactical pen like for example, like that's like more of a flashlight, whereas like I'm I'm not sure how the I haven't used his pen lights specifically, but like. Blinding kids. Right, but like having a nice pen light, especially like they have different colors and they're really like a really nice like quality.

Oh, that's cool. And then the patches, like Nexus has his own patches, but stay crafty also has a bunch of patches. We have I have a a couple of patches from stay crafty that I kind of like switch out on my Firefly. That's cool. I there's like a really pretty like mountain one, but then there's also I have like one that just says Oh shit kit, just depending on the day. Depending on the mood. I feel like stay Crafty also has like so many options of and she

just keeps growing too. Like she has like stickers that was like what she originally started with, but then like badge reels and patches and emergency care notebook that's like filled with like just the basics of emergency care. She has these really cool badge reels that like that have like the cards with them and they have like kind of like a Quick guide that you can like attached to a key chain.

She also has like shirts and kit tags and like literally like thank you cards that say like athletic trainer that are all like done up with like hypervole and like some like a foam roller and like things. Yeah. That's really dope. Super super cool. So check those out. I did ask if anyone has ever bought a gift from an AT owned business and actually 76% of people said yes. Oh nice, sweet. I know, I thought. AT supporting ATS. Exactly, exactly. I thought that was really great.

What do you have any like go to gifts that you kind of have? Like for for students. Or just in general that you've given? No I feel like I'm still trying to find like my gift thing. Yours. Your you have a really good one for your end of the year stuff for students. Thanks. I kind of adapted it from from one of our gift guides and then I kind of like adapted it. Yeah, I really like yours.

I I know I've shared it before, but I do A and if you're one of my future students, do not listen, close yours. I I do a for my master's students. I do a box like a photo box and I put in I print a bunch of photos from our semester and then I also put in AII do this for all the students regardless like volunteers, MSAT, whatever.

I put in an index card and I like near the end of the year, I like set him out like, and I do one for everyone and I just write our favorite thing slash memories about whatever, whoever person. And then I have everyone like literally I have the athletes sign it. I have like the the rest of the students sign it. I have all three of us certified sign it.

Like I literally have everyone who they worked with like put something and some years like it will be like they'll put they'll put a bunch of like memories and it'll be like super funny. But sometimes it's just like you're really cool or like depending, you know, sometimes people just like love to say how much they love each other. But sometimes it's also like memories, Like, Oh my gosh, remember when you flooded this? Or remember when you tipped the cow over, Or remember.

Yeah, remember you got blown up on the sidelines. Right, right. So anyway, the I also took that from my first preceptor, Haley. She she used to do, she did a card for me and she had all the all the football players sign it. And I was like one of my favorite gifts that I've ever gotten. I think anytime that you have like just like something that's filled with memories, I feel like. So yeah, I do that and then I give them the box and I tell

them I started your box. But this is just a place basically where you can, this is a place for you to remember how far you've been in your career and all the high points of your career all like this is your memories of athletic training. I know there's a high rate of burnout if like anytime that you're having a bad day or like, if you just want to remember like how far you've come, just like come back to this box. This is like something that like put all your mementos in here.

Like if you go to state or if like you get a nice e-mail from someone, like print it out, put it in this box. Like just have a compilation of like a happy place box I guess. Yeah, for sure. That's really cool. Yeah, I really like that one. See, I need to think, think of what my thing's going to be. I just always have to remember

to like print the pictures. Yeah, I know something that I forget to do. Which is tough at the end of a football season because you're just, you already have so much going on and you're just kind of like, OK, right, we're done. Another thing that people were talking about is like stuff for their office. So like for? Big fan of that too. Yeah, for like, I guess more for like your coworkers or for like, or when someone gets a job, I

guess, Christina S says. My mom got me a metal carved AT logo with my last name attached sits on my desk. That's pretty dope. Which a lot of people also selling nameplate with credentials. That's dope. Right. And also I was thinking like it. Goes pretty hard. If if you like graduate and you have like new credentials, like how cool. It's already cool to have credentials on the back of your name, but like to see it every day on a nameplate. Yeah, that's pretty. Cool. That's pretty boss.

Yeah, that's pretty boss. Hell yeah, I'd want that. And then also people said clothes. You want to read this one from Ellie? Yes, L e.g. says athletic training theme Christmas shirt slash sweaters I have AT shirt that says I'm an athletic trainer. Of course I'm on the nice list. That was pretty good. I like that. And a sweater with a gingerbread man with a leg broken off and another gingerbread man saying did you try icing it? So we also have glasses that say, trust me, I'm an athletic

trainer like that. Remind me of that. Yeah, we got those from my parents. But honestly, I didn't know. Like I didn't even think about like athletic training themed like clothes or even like the fact that like Christmas sweater. That'd be fun as like a Christmas party, like you have to like, not only does it have to be a Christmas sweater, but it's going to be an athletic training themed. Right, right sweater. That'd be pretty fun. I wonder that'd be a good like contest to come up with.

I would. You know what we do? This has nothing to do with what we're talking about. I don't know why I remembered it, but we do these student superlatives too. At the end of the year, we put like a little tape roll and we, we put like little tape arms and then have little faces on them. And then we just say like most likely to forget supplies at an away game or like something. Something that really matched. Which actually also stay crafty

has superlative stickers. You can get a you can get a pack of them. That's really cool. One one of our students bought the the pack this year and and they gave them out in the middle of the semester. Oh my God, that's it was pretty fun. That's funny. One day I will share those pictures. If I see it's also nice too 'cause like, like, like for like in your situation, like working football, like you have such like a big staff. So there's like a lot of interaction between like a lot

of avenues to make memories. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean, I need rotations of memory, but like there's something's different about football when you have like 4 or. Five students, I got to say them. There have been plenty of years that have been amazing and great and there have been plenty of years that the big staff has also clashed and there's also like cliques or drama, which which we don't. We can make for a long year, a long season. But memories nonetheless. Lots of tears.

That's true. Anytime you get a group of people working together, you never know. Right, right, right. We were so fortunate to have a great, literally, I think the best group this. This year went really well it seemed like. Yeah. So anyway, let's get back to these AT businesses. Speaking of our my first preceptor, she actually has a children's book. Yes. Mm. Hmm. So it's called KOA tales.

You can find it on Amazon. If you're looking for like a children's book or like someone to shop for us, consider supporting an AT. It's super cute. Also, fun fact, our our yeah, it's about dogs. Our dog is in it. Yes, that's right. So you can if you see a German Shepherd she she made an appearance and I think she has 2. Books, I think that's. True. So I think she's in both of them. And anyways, it's a really cute tale about like, being brave and

going on adventures. And yeah, it's super cute. Nice. So you can find that on Amazon if you're looking. And dogs. To find a last minute gift for a little one in your life. There's also like a coloring book. Yes, yeah, that's right. Anyway, also, I, I went through and found a bunch of Etsy shops, some of them that we've bought from before, some of them that we will buy from in the future.

Pop up productions is actually someone who I went to school with Erin. She has a million items on there, including a a shirt that Randy has. I got one that says I love women's sports. She's an athletic trainer and she designs everything. So it's, it's so cool to see like what she's been making. And I don't know, I just really, I just really love that like people find like their passions outside of athletic training too. And they kind of like make it

work for them. And yeah, it's all good. She has like a bunch of different shirts and like she has some stuff for dogs too or like some different sayings and like some positive stuff and some journals and. That's awesome. That's. Cool Bethy B crafty has a bunch of AT stickers and shirts.

They're like there's some like floral AT stickers and some other stickers and then like so that one made by Maddie Co USA ton of different things, stickers, shirts, totes, hats, ornaments, candles, drink, wear literally like a bunch of different things. Sunshine's dark side stickers shirts. Sounds like the most AT name. Why? I don't know. I feel like that's just an AT thing to do. I don't know. Well, it is. It's made by an AT. Yeah, I don't know it just.

Candles. Sweatshirts. Hoodies. That just feels like such an AT kind of name. Crafts and More by Gigi has patches. There's actually a athletic trainer tarot patch that she made. It's like a it's like a calavera. Yeah. It's also called skeleton with like a Gatorade bottle. Oh my God, that's so cool. It's actually pretty dope. I feel like patches are like all the rage Anyway, she's got a bunch. Of those are very like popular now. Right, they've got a bunch of different patches.

It's just that little bit of expression. Right, sports Med templates on Etsy has like soap notes, sign in sheets of other things for digital download. That's dope. So if you don't have or if you're like looking for something to like to not reinvent the wheel, they they have some pretty affordable ones That's really cool. And then Sage Springs shop has bowl cozies, scrunchies, birthcloths, scarves like she she sews all her own stuff. That's. Cool. Yeah, and she's an AT too.

So these are the ones that I have found in my brief like looking I there's probably so many more out there. So please let us know. We will totally repost them and and share because it's always great to support other a TS. Yeah, yeah, for sure. And there's also like a bunch of other I know like a TS have a lot of like small businesses as well. Some of them I, I think it would be super helpful if it, I don't know how to support them. Like some of them are like private practice.

So it's like, I don't know if it would be like how, how would you like gift that? Like could like some people like maybe like a gift card or like a gift certificate to a place. That's something actually people didn't say this year and no one said anything about gift cards. Think people are are leaning towards more meaningful things now. Yeah, maybe like you said, like the. Memories thing or the you know, and like you said, like photos are pretty affordable. It's kind of a big thing.

I feel like too, because we have like photos on our phone, it's like it kind of became less common to print photos. And now, like, print photos are like becoming more like we want more of that again because we're like, oh, this is like novelty, you know? It's it looks nicer and then just looking at the on the phone, I don't know if it's printed out. I don't know.

It looks nice. That, that is something like when we won softball state, one of my like I, my pitcher was holding the trophy and I was just, I went and like she was, she gave me a big hug and like our equipment manager took a picture of us hugging with the trophy. Like when we were hugging for a long time. It was just like such a great moment. And, and I feel like I was so thankful for that picture to like be taken. And then that my softball coach

also framed. And it was like that literally probably cost like what $0.20 for the photo print. And then you could get, you could even thrift frames, like you can get cheap frames, but you can also just go to the thrift store. Like they have a ton of frames. Like so like it doesn't have to be expensive, but like that's so meaningful. And it's like sitting in my office. Yeah, for sure. So who who do you actually buy gifts for and specifically like,

I guess holiday time? So I feel like this is kind of like the big holiday, end of the year, big gift giving. Yeah. Who do you get gifts for? We don't really do like gifts at work. Like the students usually give us something like as a thank you. And then our gift back is we do kind of like a like, kind of like a party. So like we'll supply the bulk of the food, like at least the entrees of it. And that's usually kind of what we do for them. Try and think, what else?

Yeah. That's pretty common also so I know some people who like take their students out for food like my Co head Lorena, she'll take her students out for dinner after the rotation. That's dope. Yeah, that's fun. When I asked who exchanges gifts kind of in the holidays, the most common that we got was the exchange between preceptor and student. Yeah, I feel like that's kind of easier, like it's a little more natural and. Right.

And it's not even always like, I mean, here's The thing is like you've spent a lot of time with your preceptor, you've spent a lot of time with your students. So I feel like it's kind of makes sense. 34% of people actually said they usually do the preceptor student gift exchange, but 35% said sometimes and 31 percent said usually no. Yeah, I think it depends. Which I was kind of surprised about because when I was a student, I feel like I gave a gift to all of my preceptors.

I mean, and to like it's usually like it doesn't necessarily have to be something big either. Like a lot of times it's like a thank you card. Right, exactly. Like just the fact that you're appreciative, that's all. Like it doesn't have to be like you spend money on it. Yeah, especially because like, as a like, you know? We do OK, your that is, that is something like most. I I'm going to say most, but I don't actually know, but I'm

going to speak for preceptors. We do not expect students to buy anything for the preceptors. Like that is not an expectation. We I don't think it is something that they want you to spend money on like especially as a student. Like preceptors are making money. Some are, some are making more than others as an athletic trainer, but some, but students like you guys, are not. Yeah, and it's never the expectation.

Right. I asked also if you got your AT Co workers gifts and 30% of people said yes, like usually yes, 38% said sometimes and 31 percent said no. So like, it's kind of like a third, third, third. Yeah. And I think it also too does it. It does depend on like how many. Yeah, it really does. Because, like, what if you have? 14 coworkers. Like you 15 coworkers, you used to have like 14 or 15, right? Yeah, I'm trying to get a gift for that. It could be a lot like that's. A little pricey.

Right. Exactly, exactly. I feel like it depends on the year. I've had like some jobs that I wasn't expecting to kind of get gifts, but then all of a sudden like that was the whole department was like that's what they did. So like people came around and like. We, we would normally do for in our department like a kind of a, it would probably more white elephant because they're kind of joke gifts kind of. We used to do that. This year we didn't, but the past two years, what?

Do you mean like? Like we would do like a white elephant kind of gift exchange during our. Holiday party. I think a gift exchange is different than like, like for like what I was talking about was like I was sitting in my desk and all of a sudden like my custodian came over and gave me like a mug and like a holiday basket. And then like my equipment guy came over and gave me cookies. And then my boss came over and gave me a card and like and I was like, Oh my goodness.

I did not get anything because I did not realize this was a department thing. Yeah, no, no, that was the closest that we got was like we do a white. Elephant like if OK holiday party like gift exchange That makes sense. Yeah, we do that. We'll we'll I feel like by the depending on the year, it depends on if we get like gifts for each of us coworkers. Also, sometimes it might just be like alcohol. Yeah, it's still a gift. Right, right.

Do you get your head ATA gift? No, we only really do gifts like like travel gifts, like if we went somewhere, we'll get some like for everybody. Like when we went to went to Italy, like we'll get get a gift and then vice versa. When when she went to like Hungary and like Switzerland, stuff she brought, sure, she brought back a gift. Oh yeah, you're right, I guess. So it's, it's stuff like that. It's I don't think we we don't really do like holiday gift.

Actually, that's really true because, yeah, when we traveled, we brought back gifts. Yeah. Head a tease. 27% of people said yes, 23% said sometimes, but the majority with 50% said usually no. I I think to kind of again, kind of depends like you know, some places with a head AT you're looking at multiple like a big staff. And so I think, again, I think

that's hard. I feel like yeah, depending on how big your staff is too, I feel like your head AT might also be the one giving like a card or like a thank you or like, you know, yeah, something along those lines. Yeah. Do you get your non AT boss a gift 'cause I know like some people, like for us, like we're the three of us at my college are Co head. So we don't technically have a head.

So we all have the same boss who's our athletic director or like if you're by yourself like you don't have AAT boss like do you get your non AT boss a gift? 78% of people said no. I would say no. And I think it really depends on the department. Yeah, I think it does depend on 9% said yes, 13% said sometimes. As with anything in athletic training, it depends. It depends. It depends I did get my non AT boss a gift when I was when my

last job. Something that I did was it just like pay attention to something that like I just noticed. So like she had a desk or like her outlet wasn't close to her so anytime she needed to charge her phone like she would like have to get up and like she had an l-shaped desk. So like she had to like go around the outside of her desk and like, I don't know, that's annoying. I know. So then I got her a really long phone charger. That's interesting.

And then I also got her a phone stand because her like phone was just like hanging off the side of the desk. Oh my God, that's. Funny. And she, and actually, The funny thing is she when I gave it to her, she was like, was this stemmed from the like, did it bother you that my phone was just hanging off the side of my desk? It's like, well, maybe. That's pretty funny. That's funny. So yeah, I mean, I guess it also just depends on your relationship with the people too.

Yeah. I mean like I've got my custodian a gift at my last job, but like this year I don't or like my this job, I don't even know our custodian so. Yeah. You know, I guess, I mean, I was really close to our custodian like previously, but yeah, I kind of just, I guess athletic training is about being adaptable. It just depends. It just depends. Depends on the situation. I think the worst is like when you don't realize if someone's going to get you a gift and then they do.

Yeah, that one's tough. And you're like, oh, I, I didn't know we were doing that. I know I feel I don't know what's worse like not getting it like if if someone gives you a gift and you didn't give them a gift back. Yeah. Or if you got them a gift. Because like, I feel like it's, I feel like it's if you got a gift and you didn't get them anything because now you're just in a just a bad situation because now you feel bad.

But then if you get something, then it's like, oh, you only got something because you've got a gift. Right. But like if you give a gift to them, like sometimes like I don't want to give a gift to them because I don't want to make them feel. Bad. That that's kind of like in the camp that I'm in, because then I'm forcing them to feel bad even though I'm giving them something then like, but I'm like forcing them to feel bad, whereas like I'd rather be the

one who feels bad. Yeah, You know what I mean? Yeah, for sure. I don't know. That's not that might not be the correct answer. No, I get what you're saying. Anyway, I think that kind of ties it up for. Oh, does it put a bow on it? That puts. That wraps it up. That is actually this will be our final episode of 2024. Looking so much to 2025. We are going to do more story episodes coming up. I think we talked about the best things about coaches. Yeah, we're going on the.

The flip side on the positive side about positive side. So make sure to keep an eye out in the next coming weeks, probably closer to early January for prompts in our Instagram stories about that. And then if you guys are new, we do see you episodes. We do interview episodes, we do story episodes. So take your pick. All of the above, one of the above, whatever you want, take it or leave it, whatever you. Want there you go.

Yeah. So if you're interested in those Cus, which next year is a reporting year. Yep, it's never too early. So Speaking of reporting year, we also work with Medbridge which they are going to be changing their pricing. So for now we have a code 80 corner $150.00 off but keep up to find out if that will be changing and I think that's all I have. Thank you for helping us showcase athletic training behind the tape. Bye.
