Episode description

The most dominant player in podcasts has been Apple, with speculation suggesting the word ‘podcast,’ partly comes from ‘iPod’. Apple Podcasts hit 50 billion downloads in 2018 alone, and that number is sure to be significantly higher today. A growing player in the space is Spotify which spent a whopping $600 million acquiring the Joe Rogan Experience, This American Life, and shows by Kim Kardashian and the Obamas. They have over one million listed shows and 16% of their 299 million users listen to podcasts. Amazon Music and Google Podcast is also coming into the spotlight, with more and more shows becoming available on these platforms.
