Welcome Back to Misheard Lyrics

Hello and welcome to Ask Me About K-Pop, the essential guide for recent converts and seasoned fans alike. My name is Shannon. And I'm Angelica. And welcome to the show. Today we're going to be revisiting an episode that we have not done. in three or four years. I was going to say several years, I think. I believe it was 2021. It could have been 2020. I should have checked. But we did two different episodes about this, like one right after the other, because after the first one.

so many people had some i have one um and then i think we just forgot about it or got busy doing other things but no you know what we've had it on our like schedule for so long and we just keep finding others things to do so we're like oh well that can be like a you know if we don't have an idea whatever and

Ultimately, we just decided like it's been such a long time. Let's do a fun one. It's time. So we are going to be talking about mishearing K-pop lyrics, which always turns into a real giggle fest. People here. all kinds of fun things and this year this these submissions are also like dirty and crazy and weird we're gonna have some giggles um and in an effort to not repeat myself way too much

Misheard Korean: Pentagon & TXT

Some of the big picture things we like discovered in the first two episodes is that like mishearing lyrics is like a very common experience. So common that the variety show Amazing Saturday. Is fully based on trying to hear the lyrics correctly. So this is something everybody does. And we've also we also discussed. Now, maybe I'll talk about the things as they come up. I'll remind us of them. But either way, we asked you guys for misheard lyrics. You sent them to us. We got a lot.

unsurprisingly thank you to everyone who sent those in we did get a huge i was like okay i have like a good like 10 of my own if we need to like fill it nope We have plenty. Nope. So I ended up just picking 20. So yeah. Good round number. Yeah. Apologies if yours didn't make it, but like we had to cut it off somewhere. So I just picked 20. And we'll start. Maybe we should just we should probably just jump into it.

Because I can't think of this doesn't need any more setup. Yeah, I mean, pretty simple premise. You listen to a song, you heard it wrong, and you sent it to us. Yeah, and we'll talk about it. All right. So the first one on our list is a Pentagon song called Like This. I didn't write down the years. or any of these songs. I should have been like a better K-pop historian. I usually note those things, but this was from, like this was the comeback before Shine, I think. So like 20...

18, probably. Either way, our listener hears Edon Edon in this moment. Let's take a listen. I mean, yeah, I hear that too. But what Woosok is saying there is 이런, 이런 with a little. it's not a d it's a little uh which means like this like this in the full phrase it's like this like this like that like that everything stays the same um

Our listener wrote, I've always associated personal emotional memories with this song, but now here from the future, hearing Edon is just so ironic. Upside down face. Yeah, it is. I was before you said that this was a the comeback that came out before. shine i was wondering like oh is this a song that came out after he left or got kicked out um but uh yeah it is funny that he was no he was still there he was still there yeah but

No, I hear that, too. I think that's a very valid misheard lyric. It's super valid. I was thinking about it today because I was like saying it to myself like, you know, and it's because when you make a D sound. Your tongue touches right behind your teeth like that. And when you pronounce a Korean deal, you also touch your tongue in that exact same way.

For anyone who's not familiar with the Korean alphabet, this is the character that is like romanized as either an R or an L. So it does have kind of a rolled R sound of like a R. yeah um so yeah he comes through absolutely you can yeah you can hear that like of the tongue All right. Our next one is a song from TXT. This song is called Thursday's Child Has Far To Go. And our listener hears penis smile. In this section of the song, let's take a listen. It's so clear. I hear that too.

Okay, I do hear that too. Shannon, will you read for us the Korean lyric? Yes. So the actual line here is 눈 물 위에서 비는 smile. smile and that phrase so poetic means the tears bloom atop your smile the tears bloom penis smile Yeah, I'm thinking that like that. And then the mmm gets dropped, like real swallowed in there. Penis smile.

This was submitted by three people. Okay, great. I was going to say we have three comments about this. So this is a very common misheard lyric. Our first listener wrote, I do not know the translation of the whole phrase. Nun means I, right? I smile, crying smile. And then our second listener wrote, this is the only misheard lyric my brain did by itself without hearing it from someone else.

And our third listener wrote, I'm so glad this is anonymous. Well, Anon, don't worry. You are not alone in this penis smile club. It seems like a big one. And to the first listener, noon means I, which is at the start of the phrase, but nin is just ending P there. And that's bloom. It's like blue. It's the blooming verb there. Nice. Just to explain, because you asked.

uh all right yeah and the funny thing about that one one more thing about this penis smile is that line is in the chorus so it's in the song so many times yeah absolutely it's feels really clear and i also when i was pulling the clip the first time he says it is the most replayed part of the like audio only version on youtube so everybody hears i think maybe honestly with a lot of these when i went to pull the clip like the moment of the mis

lyric was often a spike in the replay okay yeah I will go ahead and say like never feel bad about like yes hearing a lyric audio processing is very difficult it's a very small percentage of us are auditory learners so it's very common and I'm just thinking it's funny to me because TXT has English speaking members and nobody thought to be like, hey.

It kind of sounds like penis smile. Yes. Every time you sing that in the chorus. Okay. So this brings me to a point that I listened to the previous two episodes so that I wouldn't.

repeat myself too much in this one which i'm going to do anyway okay but i didn't so i will repeat myself and i don't apologize but one of the things that we were talking about in one of the episodes we were like mentioning that like you know Vernon was the one mispronouncing a word and it was like why is that happening and I feel like since we've done that episode I saw like an interview with I want to say Eric Nam or someone saying that like They're told to pronounce those like...

they know they would love to say it more English, but like they have to say it more Korean for the like main audience or whatever. So like that explains why maybe English speaking members are sometimes responsible for weirdly pronounced. Words.

Misheard Korean: Pink Fantasy & Taemin

Yeah, I've also have you ever seen that tick tock of the Korean guy who's talking about how like, he's American, but when he but he speaks fluent Korean. And when he goes, he says something like asparagus. And then like his Korean friends will call him out being like, don't you know?

that like like can't you pronounce it correctly or whatever and he's like it's for the flow like it sounds crazy for me to say a lot in korean and then just say asparagus asparagus for you like yeah so i'm like okay maybe it's also just like for the flow yeah um but But also...

in saying that immediately i'm like but then they say shit like butterfly that's like specifically in english so i don't know i don't know this is all conjecture it's all we're all just trying to figure it out okay so this next one was kind of interesting so this is a song by Pink Fantasy called Lemon Candy. And our listener hears a member saying, dead ass. So this is at the end of a phrase that translates to as bright as lemon yellow, but she's saying like.

is the word but she's going yeah she's going like Right. So the listener said and I'm sorry that I'm just calling all of y'all listener because the first time we did this people had names. I didn't make your names this time. So I know this was anonymous. But this listener said, when I first heard it, my brain for some reason expected to hear that S. And even though ta-la doesn't even have an S sound, I still can't hear it. Can't un-hear it.

yeah yeah okay i'm glad that the listener addressed the fact that there is no s in or even if you're pronouncing it right and there's no like there Yeah, because that was my first thought was like, oh, but there's no like obvious S sound. But. I have had that exact same phenomenon happen to me where I like expect a lyric to go a certain way. And it just got like, that's just how my brain remembers it. And I will expect it like every time.

All right, our next submission is for Tim Means. Press your number and our listener hears something about your body, body, body. Okay, I'm not gonna lie. I always thought that was the lyric. But the actual lyric is there's something about you, bare, bare, bare, which means I hope, I hope, I hope.

I can have you again. Yes, because actually, weirdly, when you look at the like, setup of the song, the something about you is the last line of a refrain. And then the body body body is like starting a bridge. So there's a put there aren't even supposed to be phrasingly connected and then the next line is i hope i hope i hope i can i can have you again like tell me tell me tell me something something something so like yeah that isn't even a full line

I was so surprised by this. I am very surprised, but I literally I've. to this day, probably still going to sing body, body, body. Right. But again, this is that like very misheard or very easily misheard for a D. Our listener wrote, when I first discovered that he was not saying body, I could not believe it. And I thought even Google was wrong. I had to go open the actual physical album to check the lyrics. I sang this song wrong for a solid five years.

I think that Shannon also sang it on the podcast once and she said it wrong. And I thought to myself, it isn't only me. I choose to believe it's a play on words and I can sing it both ways. Sending lots of love from Portugal. Yeah, girl, we've all been singing it wrong. And I think this is...

This is something we talked about in the previous two episodes that I think is a great culprit for a lot of these misheard lyrics is songs being written in English and then being given Korean lyrics. And you have to try to keep a rhyme scheme and press your number is famous.

written and produced by bruno mars so i wouldn't be surprised at all if the original lyric was there's something about your body body body and it was changed to something more poetic and in yeah yeah like call me baby call me daddy exactly

Misheard Korean: Super Junior & Stray Kids

yeah yeah yeah i think that would make a lot of sense i think that makes sense too um all right next up this is a super junior song called scene stealer and our listener her hears baby i know you want some dick let's find out okay wait i need to listen to that one more time

I definitely hear the want some dick part. Yes, there's too many things in between the baby and the want some dick, but I hear the want some dick for sure. Yeah. Well, and it almost sounds like there's like... two lines of lyrics happening at the same time like almost like a weird call and response or like somebody's singing the baby i know you while somebody else is singing something else right i don't know there's weird layers happening here yeah for sure but the actual lyric

is baby 너의 씨는, it's like English word 씨 in Korean particle 은, baby 너의 씨는 나로 완성돼. So the translation is baby, your scene is complete with me. Wansong means complete. Complete with my dick. So our listener wrote, I know it's a little aggressive. So every time I listen to the song, I have to remind myself that the mishearing is my problem. The first time I listened to Scene Stealer, I had to do a double take. I was going through a deep dive of the Suju discography and...

when I was a baby elf, and the shock made me have to research what it actually said. Coming on a little too strong for me, boys. It would be really strong if somebody sang that. For sure. Yeah. And I don't think I'd want to hear that from Super Junior. All right. Our next song, our listener did not comment on it. So this is submitted with no comment. It is Stray Kids, God's Menu. And the misheard lyric is awesome shit show.

Let's take a listen. Yeah, that absolutely sounds like awesome shit show. 100%. Didn't question it at all. Yeah. Will you please read the real lyric for us? The actual lyric is also, which is the thing that you say when you walk into a... If you've ever walked into a real Korean restaurant, they're always like...

When you walk in, like, it's just the call for welcoming someone anywhere, but usually at a restaurant. So this is their, like... god's chef song god's menu so it's like a cheeky little thing so the first i never questioned this lyric because i like knew exactly what they were saying but then when i listened to it listening for awesome shit show

It could totally be awesome shit show. 100%. I feel like I almost even hear, because the M in awesome is so like understated that I almost feel like I do hear Changbin say it. Like it fits so well. And ship show. Oh, ship show. Like, come on. Ship show. Yeah. You hear it. It's there.

Misheard Korean: Red Velvet & P1 Harmony

All right, next one is a Red Velvet song called In My Dreams. And this lyric here, or this listener hears, Seulgi say, happy ending, so gay. I mean, yeah, those are definitely the same syllables. Yes, it's soke, which means inside. So it's just supposed to be happy ending inside. But the listener wrote, this makes me smile every time. The way Seulgi pronounces it, it doesn't really sound like it would in Korean. So maybe it was done on purpose.

Or it was a style choice because the very next line ends with hey and Joy pronounces it with a long hey. So whatever the reason, I wish Red Velvet a very gay happy ending lol. this reminds me of that we got one that's like a very common misheard twice lyric is sana gay yeah yeah and that's one that like the members know about and joke about as well um so i do enjoy that that's fun All right, our next submission is P1 Harmony's Fall in Love Again. The misheard lyric is, wanna get married, ya?

want to get married almost like yeah marry ya want to marry ya maybe what is the real lyric if you can read it for us saying Maria. Maria. And Maria is like talking, chatting. He's supposed to be saying like... If that's what I'm saying, if you know what I'm saying, it's like what he's saying. Oh, gotcha. Our listener wrote, in my defense, the song is almost entirely in English, except for this short verse Intak does and one other part Jong Sob does.

And Intok has that young, overconfident, playboy swagger and recklessness look about him that makes me think he'd say things like, get over your ex, I'll treat you right, let's get married. LOL. I like the member's personality also helped to inform this. Yeah, it influences.

Misheard French & Korean: TXT & BTS

All right. Next, we have another TXT submission, but this is from their song Crown. And this listener, this is a mishearing of French. So I'll explain after. Let's just hear the clip. Okay. So our listener is hearing. So, okay. So what this actually is, is they're saying Masuri Suri. And it's from Suri Suri Masuri.

which is like nonsense magician words. And I think it's based on like a Buddhist chant or something, but like it's in a ton of K-pop songs because it's very like abracadabra, bubble, bubble, toil and toil. It's like a thing that you say. to imply magic is happening. Suri suri masuri. Yeah, in Spellbound. That's how it starts. Suri suri masuri susuri saba. Yeah. Exactly. But the listener...

said that the word sourire in French means mouse and sourire means smile. So they always find themselves singing both of those words interchangeably. And said, I think it's fitting because it makes me think of small and cute. Small and cute, TXT. And smiling, me listening to this song. Adorable. So I thought that was cute. That's very cute. And I also, we've said this in the other episodes, but love hearing ones.

that are like, oh, that's misheard in a different language other than English. I have one from Heolin that I always think she's saying besol. It's not, but I still sing it that way. All right. Our next submission is... for the bts song dna and the misheard lyric is put your ass on me so let's take a listen oh okay the fact that it echoes also yeah put your ass on me like yeah i hear that put your ass on me but that's not what he's saying he's saying which means the providence of the universe.

okay well when you say just the phrase i don't hear it at all like some of the other ones i'm like i can hear where it is in the phrase i don't hear it in just the straight up korean that's how he was saying it maybe Put your ass on me. Yeah, I can hear that. Okay. Fair enough. It's got a lot of the same vowels. Our listener wrote.

Even years later this still sits with me because of how wild it is in comparison to the real lyric. Very true. But in my defense I don't think the word... is used in k-pop much if at all outside this song it means providence so like yeah i don't i don't even know if i know what providence means to be honest i just think of it as being like Oregon Trail word. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like manifest destiny kind of shit. Yeah, totally. Sorry, continue.

It's okay. I don't think the word supri is used in K-pop much, if at all, outside this song. Plus, I think he says the whole line fast enough that the ooh sound in uju ends up sounding more like a... pee to me i don't know man 2017 was wild i mean 2017 was a freaking lifetime ago so true

Transition to English Misheard Lyrics

Okay, so now we're going to move on to lyrics that are in English in their K-pop song, but were still misheard by the listener.

Misheard English: Hello Gloom & P1 Harmony

Yes, all the previous lyrics were original Korean lyrics misheard in English. Now we're getting English lyrics misheard in. Who knows? We'll find out. We'll see. So the first one is a Hello Gloom song called Mamacita. Our listener is hearing Oh Grandma's Head's Falling.

oh grandma head is falling yeah i do hear like if i hadn't been told the oh grandma's head is falling i wouldn't have i feel like i would have heard something like grab my phone or it's calling or something like that like but the grandma i hear it it is just uh grab my hand i'm falling but he's saying like he says hand like Grab my hair.

So the listener said, when this part of the song plays, in my head, a cartoon style scene appears showing the head of a stereotypical grandma falling on the floor and rolling away. That's fun. Yeah, if that adds extra enjoyment to the song, that's great. All right, our next submission, I'm going to go ahead and pre-apologize for mispronouncing the misheard lyric because the...

Artist is P1 Harmony, the song is Siren, and the misheard lyric is German for he's shitting, which our listener has said is cockter. But... I don't know if that's how it's actually said. Let's listen. It's like cocktail cocktail.

yeah i mean personally so the real lyric is cocktail the english word cocktail i personally hear the tail very clearly um but the cocked is very is very like forward in that pronunciation um so it does kind of seem like too like cocked ill so i get it i get it yeah but when i played because i checked that i wanted to know that i was saying this right when i got google to read cocktail to me that was that's pretty much what it sounded like so

Great. Glad I got pretty close with my guess. Maybe. We'll see what the German listeners say. Are we cussing properly? I hope so. Too much throat.

Misheard English: Jackson Wang & Seventeen

All right. Our next one is a Jackson Wang song called Champagne Cool that I believe you put on your B-side list in 2003. too. Whenever this album came out. Doesn't matter. Two years ago, it says on YouTube. Okay. So our listener is hearing, you won't forget my name. It's Madison. Okay, I have to say... I did not know there was a music video for that song. Jackson's really naked in it. I'm sorry. Hold on. Let me open that in another tab and save it for later.

I didn't know that had a visualizer. Great. I mean, the first part is right. Yeah. So the it's you won't forget my name. And then it's by design, which when you listen to it, I definitely hear the design. But this feels like one of those things where your brain starts to try to finish a sentence for you. We talked about that a lot. Like if you're not.

hearing all in the other episodes we talked about it a lot that if you're not like hearing properly it's like your brain is doing its best job to try to put in something you do understand um and this feels like if you say you won't forget my name that your brain would be like here it's madison that's what my name is because that's how you would finish the sentence you won't forget my name it's madison

I do like it. I do like this. It reminded me of the twice, my twice, take me to the base, take you to my basement. They are saying basics and it doesn't even sound like basement. they start the bay my brain my basement take me to your basement I love it. Okay. Our next submission is from the 17th song. Good to me. And the misheard lyric is girl. Tell me.

Okay, sorry. I just really love that song. And I haven't heard it in a while, to be honest. And that was one of my favorite B-sides off of that release. The real lyric is good to me.

um it is simply the chorus um the listener wrote i couldn't find this song for the longest time because i thought it was called girl tell me no one is enunciating except vernon at the very end um and i especially in that clip I don't remember who it is that's singing that but it kind of sounds like Joshua to me but he is saying like god damn it you can hear me girl you can hear girl pronounced in the pop way where you don't lean on the r too hard gal yeah gal tell me gal tell me

I like that. Like, I might start singing that one because that makes me laugh. Also, I feel like it kind of works, too. It does work with the, like, vibe of the song and everything. Like, yeah, absolutely. Go to me.

Misheard English: Monsta X & Stray Kids

I like it. I love that song. Oh, 17. Okay, this next one is from the Monsta X song, Burnin' Up. And our listener hears, it's hot. I'm getting harder. Gasp. Gasp. Scandalo. More songs I haven't heard in too long. I know. I was just going to say, I was like, oh my God, I haven't listened to that song in forever. I'm burning up. Oh, so good. I have been listening to a lot of Monsta X lately in preparation.

nice return um anyway so the lyric is it's hot i'm getting hotter and i feel like hotter and harder are two are on the they're probably in that confusing english poem about like words that don't even sound that different yeah hotter hotter hard like they are harder harder they are different but if you're singing it in a song like harder harder harder getting harder harder yeah so this is really understandable and it is monstack so again we're projecting Absolutely.

the idols are giving us we're projecting them right back at them totally but also i will say like the no the hot and hard thing is so real because there's a chapel rone song where she's just like it's hard i thought the lyric was it's hard when you're saying something whatever like but it's actually it's hot like it is she is singing it's hot so that is a it's even when the singer is a native English speaker hot and hard hard to hear the difference

But the listener wrote, I'm going to turn myself into horny jail now. Bye. I think all mom babies permanently live in jail. Mom baby headquarters. Exists under the horny jail. Yep. And the members of Monsta X are the jailers. They put us there.

All right. Our next submission is another Stray Kids song. This one, Super Bowl. And the misheard lyric is, this shit so bussin'. I mean... half of that lyric is correct um the the actual lyric is our dish is so bussin and our listener wrote a bunch of us heard this and discussed it in the discord when super bowl came out we were fairly sure we were wrong though because bang chan says idols can't curse and that is true in that bang chan addressed that like they're in

like concerts and stuff like he said that repeatedly and there is like a song that famously like he allows the fans to sing fuck because he can't yeah But this one, yeah, I mean, I hear it. It's very easy to hear our dish, our shit. And it is is so bussing. This feels cheeky and purposeful to me in him saying that they can't.

curse like implies not that they don't want to but that they can't and like yeah you know like this is i would guess just based off vibes that this is a song that sriracha wrote so like i would wouldn't doubt that he made it that it was this shit is so bussin and they're like you can't say that and then he was like what if he's saying our dish is so bussin like yeah

The way that dish and is is like squished. It's too. It feels so purposeful and like cheeky and like, haha, I got away with it. Like when Crystal says shit. Yeah.

Misheard English: Aespa & Key

I agree. I agree. Our next one is from the Aespa song long chat that was on my B-side list last year. And our listener hears, I'll be the girl who likes cilantro. I mean, I never heard it before this, but with that in my head first, I can see it. You can hear it. I can hear it. Yeah. So it is I'll be the girl who likes a long chat, like the title of the song. And the listener wrote, I knew.

It probably wasn't that, but I didn't know it was I'll be a girl who likes a lawn chat until you guys talked about how much you like the song on the B-Sides pod episode. LOLOLOL. i mean i think that's like likes a long chat like cilantro and then more voice comes in on the chat part so like Yeah. It muffles it a little bit. Absolutely. Absolutely. And yeah, it would be very silly if that's what it was, but you can't help what you hear, you know?

it would be um but also i don't know i mean they have a song called licorice so they could have a song about cilantro that's true it's very divisive you could write a great song about cilantro you really could i mean in the same way that like People hate licorice. Some people like it. 30% of people are genetically predisposed to not enjoying the taste of cilantro. Like this is an interesting, we could write something about this. Yeah, we could.

poetry ideas if anyone's trying to write a song there's your next idea yeah all right our next submission is from key's song pleasure shop and the misheard lyric is Pikachu. Pikachu. Pikachu. So the real lyric is pick and choose. Our listener wrote, he gets played a lot in the car because he's a household fave. So whenever this song comes on, there's always someone asking what Pikachu is doing here. I love. I love this.

implication of like oh it gets played in the car so like maybe like other people i'm assuming this is a child that's what i'm thinking too i'm like this this tell this this makes me think of like a kid in the back seat being like why is pikachu in that song about p Pikachu. That's my opinion. Exactly. I love that one. Pikachu. Pikachu. That's what I hear. Yeah. I mean, personally, I definitely always heard pick and choose. But. I mean, it's perfect right there to sing Pikachu if you want to.

yeah i'm happy when you're happy that's the truth i'm also happy when pikachu is happy so it's fine i am very sad when pikachu is sad so yeah agreed

Misheard English: GOT7's Loser & Lesbian

All right. Our next one was also presented without comment from the listener, but it is from Got7's newest song, Python. And the listener hears, I know I'm a loser. So it's, I don't want a loser. Yeah. Lose her. I don't see. I even said it the way I don't want to lose her, but lose her loser. Those are completely interchangeable.

yes i do the loser lose her absolutely especially because the way that they're singing is loser like you don't really hear that h like the who gets so much of the yeah exactly and then the rest of it just kind of like goes down um i really hear the i don't wanna so i don't really hear the i know i'm uh um but yeah

But I feel like that's one of those things where it's like your brain filled it in. Yeah. Like you heard loser and like wanna. Because it fits in so perfectly that you'd be like, I know I'm a loser. Like. and it also kind of fits the vibe like if he's talking about like No, it doesn't. No, because he says, I know I'm an icon. I'm an icon. Actually, wait a minute. Watch me with the lights on. I know I'm an icon. And then later like, but I know I'm a loser. Yeah.

And I am a loser. Got sevens having an identity crisis. They don't know what's happening. But no, they do. And they don't want to lose her. That's what's happening. All right. Our last submission is also a GOT7 song. This one is Look. And the misheard lyric is simply the word lesbian. Oh. okay yeah um then they're at the end of the jackson line yeah the very end lesbian yeah like in the background um the real lyric is yes sir uh yes sir

lesbian i don't know um i hear it no i hear lesbian more than yes sir i'm just i was just trying to do say it and like right like blend that no but yeah i don't i don't understand how he pronounced yes sir as lesbian but that is what happened um our listener wrote

I've actually asked people before if they hear it too. And so far, only two people could confirm they could kind of hear Jackson singing lesbian. The thing is, in no way is he singing. Yes, sir. It just makes no sense because the sounds he makes. do not sound like yes sir at all so i truly believe he is singing lesbian and i love it i was raising my hands during your whole while she was reading that because i was just like yes yes it doesn't sound like yes sir

It does not sound like yes, sir, at all. So therefore, it must be lesbian. Yeah, I think so. I think we have no choice but to assume that Jackson is saying lesbian. It's so funny to just like say that. Just like randomly. I think you should do that more often. I'm going to start like the little like double beat. Yes. At the beginning of all of his raps. Let's beat it.

Misheard Lyrics Segment Wrap Up

people are like what is with this Jackson wank I don't understand he's an ally that's it oh my gosh well those were all your submissions that I gathered But I think that was a perfect, perfect little tidbit of like good, good, funny.

misheard lyrics um i saw a lot of people in the discord being like oh i feel bad i submitted a naughty one or like oops mine is like inappropriate we're like y'all have heard this podcast do you think what do you podcast do you think this is we have a whole patreon episode where we give nipple points for months to x stages like girl we don't care you don't care Give us that penis smile. Don't give us the penis smile. Tell us about it. I don't want to know what that is. I'm really uninterested.

Boy Group Deep Dive: WEi Introduction

Perfect. All right. We'll be right back. All right. We are back.

And this week, the random number generator gave us a boy group that debuted in 2020 that is called Wei? We I? We are a little confused because the Hangul is We I E. we i we like i'm not sure if it's just way and they're like spelling it crazy but it's capital w or capital w capital e little i so that's what their name is whatever that is i know i almost thought that it was supposed at first i was like oh is it actually pronounced we because they are formed by we entertainment as in the

French word for yes, O-U-I. And this is a six-member boy group that debuted in October of 2020 with an EP called Identity, colon, First Sight. And according to their wiki, the name means we and I, meaning that we are one and we'll make music as one. So it probably is we, I. it probably is maybe that's that's kind of a mouthful oh this romanization says we i so it's probably we i okay it's we i sorry that i said way seven times it's we i

I think until we get corrected later. Yeah. Okay. But we're saying right now, we don't know how to say it. So what's the deal with we, I? All right. The deal is they have put out. quite a bit of music actually they have seven EPs two Korean EPs um and they've even had two Japanese EPs sorry what did I just say Korean oh um I don't know why I said that It's okay. Two Japanese EPs.

They've also gone on two world tours, although I believe that the world part seems to have only included Japan and Korea. Oh, no, Taipei as well. So there you go. Three countries in their world tour.

have had two of them which is more than some groups can say uh they've also won four awards in their time since debut um they are still currently together with the original lineup um It seems like most, if not all of the boys in this group had previously, they had all participated in different competition shows like Produce 101, Won the Nine. What else did I see? Yeah, we've got first regular first first produce.

And then second Brodeus, in which one of the members was in first place and was the, like, number one of X1, which was a group for... 68 seconds. Yeah. Oh, under 19 is the show that gave us one nine. Yeah. So most of these members were like seasoned competition professional.

yes and also debuted already be like not being complete unknown so they may have already had like a bit of a fan base when they debuted um but like i said they are still together and uh we're gonna watch their most watched music video together yeah it looks like let's see oh they just put something out last month great January 15th 7th EP so yeah they're still all the way out here amazing and yeah their most popular music video is bye bye bye

from 2021 and you know that title just evokes and sink to me so i'm curious and we're speaking of misheard lyrics one of the most famous it's gonna be may gonna be may Um, so if you, okay, I'm done.

WEi's 'Bye Bye Bye' MV Reaction

we're silly tonight um if you want to watch way we i fuck we want to watch we i bye bye bye with us pull it up and press play when i say go um it looks like we're gonna get some summer vibes in here so here we go three two one go oh yeah immediate we've got palm trees all six boys oh on a beach oh it's like a little like sit it's

very different architecture but um like the sistar pool where we have like a little background and then the pool in the foreground i was literally just gonna say like i feel like i've seen a girl group music video in this exact set oh good hair I like that hair a lot. This guy has kind of like a shag mullet. A wolf cut. But it's like blue and like...

I like the color scheme of this a lot. We have like the outdoor set with the pool in front of it is like really, really colorful. But then there's also like a black. box where they're all wearing like white and black um but they're mostly i mean there's a bunch of different sets where they have like some of them are in lavender and then some of them are like pink and blue and it's very vibrant Ooh, fancy footwork. Also groovy. Mm-hmm. Oh, that's fun.

A little bit of a just a whistle chorus without the whistle. A song whistle. There's no plot to this music video. It just cuts between them dancing or lounging around, looking directly at the camera. Oh, now it's nighttime. Nighttime for the rap. Oh, he's sitting in a trunk. That was silly. Oh, little half pony.

Immigrant? What? Why? Did you see that? They were in a box that said immigration. Well, because the guy was on a plane. So I think we're getting. Oh, now he's stuck in customs. Travel. Travel vibes. Yeah. Someone is like a scanner. Oh, yeah. A little scanner. Metal detector one. Oh, that was a little fun choreo where they like pushed and then touched the other member. Oh, they just shot each other.

I like these all-white suits, though. Or all-white looks. That's fun. I like this lavender one. I was just going to say, one of them is wearing the most beautiful lavender suit. And it's that one. Oh, there's more than one of them in a lavender look. I like it. We only ever see it sitting down, though. It's very pretty.

Oh, okay. I see. There's three of them. They're all covering. They all keep holding their hands up like they're blocking the sun out of their eyes. But it's dark. Maybe they're covering their eyes because they don't want to see you anymore. I really like that. The foot move. Yeah, that's really cool. I like this song. It's very good. Yeah, it's nice. This was a group that I was like, I know this name, but I couldn't tell you any of their songs.

This one's good. I like it. You know what that kind of reminds me of? The newest... oh my god what is the name of that song that has is it deja vu that has the maybe um no no the one with the like crazy big trouble yeah yeah yeah that it reminds me of the footwork from that um great i liked that a lot yeah that was good very good i'll check i'll check their shit out we i bye bye bye very nice amazing

Weekly Recommendations: Kickflip & CIX

All right. Weekly recommendation time. Is there anything you would like to recommend to the listeners this week? Um, yeah, actually, I have been really enjoying I know that we don't usually pay attention to like the the newer boy groups. But I do want to shout out this new rookie group from JYP called Kickflip. Because I watched one of their...

I think it was a pre-release or maybe it was a beat. I don't even remember what I saw first. I just watched it on a whim and I freaking love it. I think that every I've heard they only have like. I'm looking at their EP right now. We've got one, two, three, four. We're six. There's six on this whole debut. They had a pre-release, and then they just put out their debut. The debut song is called Mama Said, and the pre-release was...

I love mgrit. It's mgrit, but they go like mgrit. Yeah, I love mgrit. all of their songs i think they are all so fun none of them scream at me they are all very groovy they have moments of like i know that we with good reason shot on got sevens uh vocals due to jyp i don't think that kickflip falls into that seeing like jyp uh pitfall i like really don't hear it and i i hear like very pretty vocals from them. And I think that their choreography is so fun to watch. Like our friend Jenna.

compared it to like early 17 like being that fun to watch and I totally agree because I think that the like it's very creative and unique and like i feel like there's there's at least one moment in each one of their choreographies that i've watched where i've like audibly been like oh like what a cool move like oh that part is so weird and they do like They do really cool lines and formations and really fancy footwork. And then there's just one part.

in my favorite song of theirs which is called knock knock where like at the end they're like all in a line and there's this little part where they just like they do like a um like it goes to the beat but like an eat they like choose different poses they're like shuffling along the stage in a line and they

just like pose pose pose pose like as they shuffle and it's so cute and fun and they like do it different every performance um but so i was very very pleased with this debut like like i said they're not shouty I almost felt like in watching their stuff, I was like, OK, if I put JYP groups on like a Stray Kids to twice spectrum, this group falls more to twice, in my opinion. I think that their choreography is really cool.

and that their songs are like so melodic and fun and they have a very like they have a very like young fresh kind of like boy Like regular boy kind of concept. The reason I like Boy Next Door. Exactly. Yeah, it's definitely that same kind of boy group, like whatever we're going to call that boy next door genre of boy groups that I think they fit into it. So kickflip. Love it.

Okay, great. Okay, I have a specific song recommendation that came out at the end of January that I had missed when it came out, but like, have been listening to it a lot in the last two weeks. And this is the CIX song Thunder. Oh, my God. Yes. This was the title track on their new little I think it's like a repack because it has lovers or enemies and like songs from the last mini on it. But then it has three new ones as well. But Thunder.

I love this song because it has the essence of booty-shaking disco. It's got your bass line and it has the groove, but it still has that weird... like there's a k-pop like it has the k-pop wash over it yeah where there's still like strange electronic songs and it's kind of epic in a crazy way that feels like classic exo or something like yeah

it's just got that grandeur to it while still being like so funky and fun to like dance to oh yes i love i was listening to that song on the way it's good i really like it i always want to go I know that's not what they do, but I want to do a little thriller. Let's make it rain. I feel the thunder.

yeah i know that there is like a big like swoopy leg thing in the chorus um but yeah the choreo to this is also fun yeah so also cix is only four people now yeah i don't know when that happened i don't keep up with them but i wouldn't be surprised if they've no it's a

I don't know. Did they start military? I feel like it happened recently. This might be their first four-person release. I'm looking this up. And I base that solely off of an Asian Junkie review that I only sort of remember. Yes, they did lose a member. in 2022 oh okay so this is probably not this is definitely not their first release or no no no people no no no sorry sorry it was last summer it was not that long ago oh it was not that long ago

his contract ended and he was just like, bye. So maybe after lovers or enemies. Yeah. August. So that would have been. Yeah. I think that would have been after lovers or enemies. Wow. Interesting.

um yeah i wonder if the version that of lovers or enemies that is on this ep is a re-recorded four-person i'd be curious about that because that was something i didn't say it last week when it was your recommendation because i didn't want to like shit on a nice recommendation of our sweet aunt want us boys who i love but there was a big controversy around the album that that

that the new songs are on because it was like a big anniversary thing and they did these huge repacks and whatever and they were like it's gonna be like 30 songs like all of one of us's best songs but they like re-recorded them all without the guy who's not in it anymore yeah and people are not happy about that at all i mean

Groups change, y'all. But anyway, just that idea of like re-releasing it, taking someone out. But anyway, I don't know if they did that. No, I don't know. There's pure curiosity. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

PLAVE Album Update & Avatar Glitches

uh but yes thunder great love it dance to it do it um and then the other thing is i guess i'll like expound on something i brought up two weeks ago because now i have firmer thoughts about it is it play it's play and it is like that I can confirm that the play album is like maybe my favorite thing I've heard all year so far like I love every single song they all have like completely different vibes in a way that's kind of

of nuts um like the title song dash is so crazy because it's like half ballad half like rock song half like It's the Frankenstein-iest thing I've heard in a while, which is kind of interesting. But my favorite song is this song called Chroma Drift. Oh, my God. That song is so good. That has like 17 same dreams, same mind. vibes it's got that whatever that like dreamy fucking like 80s like like whatever that music is that has saxophone solos

That's what Chromadrift is and I love it. And there's like an English ballad called Island that's... fucking gorgeous there's this really like silly song called riz that like i love and like oh yeah you compared it to a monster x b-side and i can't unhear that now like every especially like freaky freaky deaky whatever they say like freaky deaky freaky they like say something really silly in the chorus sweetie cupcake and i'm like uh-uh

I swear to God, babe, you could be my love. No, but there's another part where they go freaky, freaky, cheeky, cheeky. Yeah, that one. Freaky, deaky, cheeky, whatever. It's really dumb, but it's it does have that Monsta X energy for sure. So I love this album so much. And then like play was like all in the news this week because like an angry Twitter stand like revealed all of their faces, which I guess like the.

fans knew but it was something that people you know tried to keep as like the nice little thing like we like we're we're we're all playing along with the thing and like we don't need to expose them and a lot of them are older like in their 30s and were in other groups so then everyone was like dragging up their sordid past and being like they're too old and they don't look like the cartoons and it's stupid so whatever um but i i really like the album i tried very hard to like watch Like...

them do a music show or whatever and like I'm so sorry though like the stages and stuff don't do it for me like watching the cartoons dance does nothing for me like I know that there are human beings dancing like I know that and I think it's awesome but like looking at it

they're still like their elbows are weird like i feel like the yeah the vr character isn't even catching the subtleties of the dance like a human could i don't know so i find totally i still find watching them odd um but i did watch like a 30 minute compilation on youtube of their

Avatar is glitching and I have never laughed so hard. I'll watch any of that. Like that is so funny to me when they're like sitting at a table and then all of a sudden one of them like clips into the other and they're this like horrifying mash or like they're waving. And then one of their hands starts like going like this because like the computer is crashing. I think that's so funny.

that is very funny it would also be funny if the if the like avatar was like oops sorry about that they like get up the boys just like when it happens i noticed in the compilation that when they start glitching they just like If it's too crazy, they comment on it, but they usually just try to silently get off screen because that seems to like reset them somehow. Reset it. That's super funny.

That's so, so funny. So anyway, there's my update on my play of journey. Like definitely don't think I'm going to like Stan. I don't think like I'm not anti. I think the idea is like very interesting and I like future of case.

pop way i think it's cool that for a while these guys got to mostly be like anonymous and like yeah it is too bad that like people can be shitty in that way but i also think it's like like virtual artists are a thing in like especially in like japanese music like there's so many and i'm not just like the vocoder or vocaloid of like uh the full computers like just this vtuber thing where they

yeah yeah exactly they put a map like it's a person and there's just like a mapping filter on them and there are like virtual like beauty influencers and like it's not just like performers um but it is mostly just like an It's basically just like an avenue or an option for somebody who wants to create content but doesn't want to use their own face. Right. And I think that's totally like that makes sense to me. Yeah. I thought it was very interesting that like Asian Junkie put it very.

succinctly in a good little tweet or something that was basically you know like people being like leave idols alone like stop bullying idols don't drag up their past it's so mean and then like a faceless anonymous idol and it's people like how are we supposed to know what to bully them about if we don't know who they are like it's such a honestly

Yeah, that's what we're seeing here. And it seems like the people's problem with them being anonymous is like, well, then I can't like cancel them for no reason. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I don't know who they are. I need to know who they are. Cartoons can't make mistakes. Yes, exactly. So anyway, there's my update with my play journey. Love the album. Maybe I'll check out the others, see if I like them as much. But only engaging with technical glitch content at the moment.

That's fair. Yeah, personally, I do really, I really like Chromadrift and I really like Riz, but I'm just, I've found myself like... just not in a place for ballads right now so i do usually skip their their ball the other two ballads yeah but i'm but i but like i'm skipping other people's ballads too it's not just play i'm just like i'm not

not here for this right now um but uh yeah i was very pleasantly surprised um by by their release yeah i mean i i feel like i shouldn't have been so surprised that like when i listen to this like man these albums i mean these vocals like are great like these dudes are good yeah and then to find out even though they didn't want us to find out that some of them have been in the industry for 15 years already makes perfect fucking sense like of course they're great yeah they're pro pro pros

PLAVE's Virtual Concept & Outro

But I also think that makes sense why like, okay, yeah, we're in our 30s now. We can't debut as a brand new boy group with our 30 something year old faces. Like, okay, let's be cartoons. Like, I don't know. I just feel like there's a lot of, there's a lot of.

valid reasoning behind it whatever also it could just be for fun yeah why not god forbid you have some fucking whipsy fucking cartoons whipsy some people like cartoons and that's okay that is okay um all right well we will end that here thank you so much again to everybody who sent in a misheard lyric i did save all the ones we didn't use yeah so stay tuned this comes up again
