Randy's Beginnings: Genesis Sermon Series sermon was titled "Worship or Idolatry?" from Genesis chapter 11. We learned about the connection between the Tower of Babel and Pentecost. 1. Shinar = Babylon. 2. Tar = pitch = covering. 3. "Make a name for ourselves" = humanism. 4. The people disobeyed God's command: Be fruitful and fill the earth. 5. Many scholars believe that Nimrod is the founder and leader of the Tower of Babel. 6. Babel means confusion. 7. Babylon was the seat of astrology and idolatry. 8. Paganism originated in Babylon with the Mother/Child cult. 9. Pentecost was the reversal of Babel. 10. Shem's line continued through the patriarch Abraham.
