Episode description

While I'm a big believer that we tend to over-apologize and need to cut back on how often we apologize in our interactions. [In fact, you can check out my prior episode on that exact issue] Negotiating Your Personal Apology Fast, there are times when it's important to own up and redress a wrong.

In this episode, we talk about when and how to apologize in negotiation.

When we come into a negotiation we typically want to assume we're in the right. That our side is the "just" side. What happens when you come to the realization that you're on the wrong side of the negotiation?

Our kneejerk reaction is often to avoid admitting we were wrong as we worry it will adversely impact our credibility. The opposite is true.

You'll come away with some practical, easy to apply tips on how to handle these situations, including:

  • How to use research to ideally avoid the problem
  • How to acknowledge and apologize
  • What not to do
  • How to handle the aftermath
