Episode description

Tucson artist Fred Borcherdt came by today, I've been trying to get Fred on the Podcast show and finally found time.  I've represented Fred for 15 years and own his sculpture in my personal collection. Borcherdt trained at the University of Arizona and got his master's of fine art at the Chicago Art Institute, where he would eventually teach 3D design for 5 years. Fred takes us through his art career chronologically, specifically how sculpture came into his life and how traveling the world on a sculpture scholarship influenced his artwork, including time in Australia and the Pacific islands looking at Polynesian art.

Fred speaks on what it's like to be a sculptor that works with very difficult and unforgiving mediums such as steel, hardwoods, and stone, what life can be if you dedicate yourself and focused energy to your creative side, and what it's like being artist hitting 80 years of age and where his art will go from here. An interesting look at Tucson in the 1970s and building his home above Ventana Canyon.
