Hey, Michaelangelo here. You know, Joe and Jack have interviewed a lot of different people over the years, and one of the most I don't know, strangest, weirdest interviews they did was with Larry Flint back in two thousand three. Mr Flint passed away yesterday at the age of seventy eight. Um. He was known, of course for Hustler Magazine and other pornographic ventures, but he also fought for freedom of speech.
He was big on the First Amendment. Uh. Larry Flint was a candidate for governor believe it or not, during the recall election in California, and so Joe and Jack talked to him, and UM, here's how it sounded. But before we play it, I just want to say it was a long, droning interview. It was kind of it was very uncomfortable. I remember running the show and it being very uncomfortable just because, quite frankly, we couldn't understand him very well because he did get shot in the
spine and it did affect his speech. You know, Plus you're talking to a pornographer. Hustler magazine is very controversial and um certainly used to be very controversial in way not my cup of tea. But so, without further ado, here is uh Joe and Jack interviewing Larry Flint back in two thousand three. We're waiting for the appearance via telephone of Lawrence Flint. Gubernatorial candidate. Larry Flint will ask him how the campaign's going and how he likes his
chances for tomorrow. Yes, okay, great, Mr Flint is on the line. Good morning, Larry. How are you all right? How are you? We're great? How's the gubernatorial campaign going? How do you like your chances tomorrow? All right's going pretty good? But uh, I didn't really uh So I had a shot, you know, but I felt the platform was cheap, and I I wanted to say about how could be approved rationally farm perfect ly far and allowing slot machines for priving to see those I felt that
would balance the budget. And so I've been able to get out my word over the last let's say week. H it's not pretty effective. Maybe some of some people will say, hey, the do it's about ibi for hour, or maybe some of the candidates to Bob, they feel the same way. You know, I almost wish you'd taken that gambling thing a little longer and louder, just because I've always wondered, you know, if if it's okay to run a casino for an American Indian, why not white
people with a gigantic budget deficit. Either gambling is okay or it's not. Yeah, well you know the sad part about it. Yeah, every state in the U for the Indians, have gaming. Uh they have compacts where they pay a large procent pacenti to the revenue to the state, but not in California. But say the reason why they don't in California because you don't know four years uh Uh, the Indian to pay us over five billion dollars. So and they give him for that body for one reason.
One reason, so well, they don't want to have to share a piece to pie with the state. And also they don't want the private zeros to get any special rights because they don't want to compete with them. It's uh, yeah, the most unfair thing I've I've ever witnessed for my thirty five years and big in business, I would agree with you on that one. Uh. Speaking of business, how goes the porn business these days? What do you prefer? Erotica?
It's great, you know, but I knew I can never get the people of California to separate my candidacy for my profession. But uh, you know what the hell, one of these days, uh, all these people won't be so up tired about SEXTI. Larry Flynn is speaking of the thirty ninth anniversary of the free speech movement on campus in Berkeley. Uh, he's a guest, I guess of the a c LU Martin Luther King Union, seven o'clock tonight. What's the state of free speech in America? Mr? Flint?
Not very good? You know. They the Patriot Act, pretty hefty blow, you know. Uh, and they used the oldest trick in the book of politish wants to copyish after you just scare the people and tell them about you're gonna fix it. And they only scared the American people, but they scared Congress as well. Now we've got a situation where the president attorney general had it either right to attorney or can have access to your medical records or financial records, even the books you check out of
a library. Um, and even if you do have an attorney, all of your uh conversations can be can be monitored by them. And what happened. The average of record says, well, that's for territs that don't affect me. Well, that's not true. This is not limited just people involved in terrors. So it could be used and gets any American in the country. And as a breakers what said you know that people who are welling to trade their civil lebrities for security
deserve neither. And I think UH Bush could have got a lot by taking a page out of their Franklets book.
It's it's really really a very frightening situation. I don't think there's any chance of paper UH Patriot Act too, through which they're trying and there is a lot of UH Congress, food Etceterators on both sides of the out which are trying to roll back the UH patriarch one now as it is because people are beginning to realize that they gave h the government to biche say if they would have lonely stopped to think, you know, Americans, but a beacon freedom in the world, Uh everything to
it is exist. And when we after nine eleven push the Patriot Act, that means that we was getting right now in the mud with the terrorists and we were no difference in amor no better, and we were confessing that our court systems, you know, I could not deal what Terry is. Man. Uh, it's one of the most awful things that I don't know with. Uh, well, listen to that. We're at risk of running out time. I just want to say, you know, no matter what you think of Mr. Flint's core business, he is one of
the great first Amendment watchers and American history. But one more question about the core business for the record, sir, not you as a businessman, but as a man. Silicone, yes or no telicone? Is that what you say? Yeah? Yeah, I'm I'm a natural man myself. You hate it? Okay, Well, we wondered where you stood on that show. Larry Flint is a king tonight at you see Berkeley about free speech,
the what God gave a woman, That's what I'm saying. Well, if you've ever browsed through a Hustler magazine, and I actually haven't looked at one for years, Jack, come back to Hustler. But um, if it's anything like it used to be, free speech is alive. And well I mean
Patriot Act aside. I mean, you know, obviously there's plenty of uh, just a raw sex They're available in any news stand practically in America, and just they say in Husler magazine, I mean, the most amazingly vile things about politicians that have ever been said in the history of the earth and get away with it. So I mean, from that standpoint, you gotta admit free speech is doing
all right. Yes, yes, it bears watching. I mean I couldn't even describe to you some of the things they say or depict about, you know, presidents or senators in that magazine, and nobody's you know, nobody's coming down on them for that. Often they portrayed them as human as I I agree with him on the Indian casino thing.
It is the most amazing thing that has happened that you allow one business to go out there based on race and they don't have any competition, they don't get any competition, and they don't have to pay any taxes based on race. Standing back to Fifty's absolutely amazing. It is stunning. What a crazy, crazy world. Larry Flint, first time I've ever actually talked to him. Yeah, yeah, I'd like to have a conversation between Larry Flint and Ozzy Osbourne.
I think it sounds something like this funny. We can you imagine that little azzi with it? No, I can't. I can't make fun of a guy who's shot in the spine. I can't. I just can't. How about a guy who's bitten the neck by a tiger? I see your point. Let's what time is the regroup? I think we had a regroup. All right, let's regroup. We're completely ungrouped. Your calls stand up to show Please hold just for another moment or two. Figure. I'm afraid he was gonna
die on the phone. I was really worried about that. Ah God, that's uncomfortable. You know, normally we're okay with interrupting people. I feel it feels feels disrespectful. He's a pornographer, can be disrespectful to Larry Flint. Well, that was an interesting interview. I guess it's kind of weird and strange. Um not particularly great actually, to be honest with you. But we did find out that apparently Larry Flint he liked natural breast, and uh so do Joe and Jack Well,
and that that was really about it. I mean, he never did become governor, obviously, and it was just a strange interview. Was one of those interviews that we had a controversial figure on the air, but really not a whole lot came out of that interview, to be honest with you. He kind of talked, said his thing, and then left and that was pretty much it. Although I did like the fact that I used porno music to uh as bumper music to go out from the segment.
That was kind of fun. I thought that was clever. So well, I guess that's it.
