S2:E6: How to Rest in God
Episode description
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”” Matthew 11:28-30 ESV
True rest is found in Jesus. Soul care is part of self care. Sabbath rest is a proclamation that we are not God. He is always at work, and we can trust Him with our burdens. Resting is acknowledging that are strength is LIMITED, but His is UNLIMITED and that’s the truth our souls rest in.
“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.” Genesis 2:2-3 ESV
His yoke is easy, how do we rest in Him?
1. Trust Him - pray, remind yourself of His promises to you
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” * Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV *
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:6-7
2. Rest your body - sleep, eat, repeat
"Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.” Psalm 127:1-2 ESV
