Episode description

It has been a few days and some of us are struggling hard. I want to give just a few ideas on how to deal with Class A, what the heck kind of pain is this?

For this space in time, find a moment to just be. For some of us, disassociation is not a bad thing. I don't recommend it for a day-to-day experience but if it gets you to the store and back, score.

For other, you might have a crying jag or two. It is okay. I understand.    When you are ready, we will start again and work our way to better health. In the meantime, don't be ground down.    Don't give your time and attention it to the assholes. Keep it moving in a positive direction.   Monitor your news flow. I'd suggest you go cold turkey on it, but that is just me.   Stay with the basics, eat, bathe and find your internal safe place.   If you need support contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988 or 1-800-273-8255.   The Trevor Project at 1-866-488-7386 or text “START” to 741-741. Welcome to the Anxiety Road Podcast. This is the involuntary journey, finding treatment options and resources for people that have an anxiety condition, panic attacks and phobias too. This podcast is treatment agnostic. My name is Gena Haskett. I've been doing this podcast for about 8 years. In most episodes. I really work on trying to describe where to find help or to understand your condition. The main reason for that is I'm not a

licensed professional. And the second thing is, I don't want to tell anybody what to do. Well, I do make an exception for Please Don't Die, but other than that, it is your choice in how you want to handle your treatment. But this week, whew!I feel it in my chest. It's in my gut, and my soul has taken a pounding. My dreams are chaotic, and my symptoms are acting a fool. For my international listeners, this is another way of saying that they feel free to express themselves inappropriately.

It doesn't really matter what generated the pain. When I talked to my own personal Ziggy-type mental health professional and asked the lyrical question, What should I do? Ziggy said some stuff. I didn't feel like I was being heard. We talked some more. I didn't hear anything that got me back to the land of the living. Then Ziggy said, When feelings dominate, facts don't matter. It isn't that what I feel is wrong or invalid. But your symptoms are indicating that you need

attention. It might be self-care. It might be a lot of self-care. For the moment, you are job one. You have to honor yourself, your body, and your spirit. Make sure that you're safe as best as you can. Make sure that you eat, drink water. , Bathe yourself once in a while. Step back from the fire hose of news and pomposity. Turn off notifications on your phone for a bit, and stop doom-scrolling. Check in with trusted friends and

relations. Play your favorite music, maybe some Shalamar, a bit of Steely Dan, maybe a touch of One Nation Under a Groove. Now, some people would say that's old folks music, and they would be right. So pick your own tunes. I can only offer what I know that works for me. The world will continue to turn as you get yourself stable. And when you are stable, find ways to be of assistance. Support your local library. They're going to need a lot of help in the days to come. Join organizations that

support the good in the world. What I don't want you to do is become grist for the mill. Don't get ground down into a hopeless vat of goo. When you feel better, then you can become the agent of change in your life, your community, or maybe just in your backyard. Do what you can, when you can. I'll catch you next time on The Anxiety Road. You can visit anxietyroadpodcast.com for links and other information

resources. You can listen, download, or subscribe to the podcast via any of the free podcasting apps such as Apple Podcast, Amazon, Gaana, Pandora, or on the web at listennotes.com.
