In this episode, a quick look at the book, you will get through this. Welcome to the Anxiety Road podcast. This is the involuntary journey, finding treatment options and resources. For people that have anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias too. This podcast is treatment agnostic. My name is Gena Haskett. Last time I talked about the different types of anxiety books, this is going to be a much shorter episode. I wanna take a quick look at the book.
You will get through this help for depression, anxiety, grief, and more by psychologist Julie Redico, licensed professional counselor Charity O'Reilly. And psychologist Nicole Verson. I had to read the full title and subtitle because there are other books with a similar name or the exact same name. This particular book was published in July, 2024. I'll get to it in a moment if you're new here.
This is the podcast that looks at medical, behavioral health, meditation, relaxation, and X equals the unknown treatment options and resources for those of us that have an anxiety disorder or a mental health condition, and I have to tell you that everything that could go wrong has gone wrong with getting this episode up, and there's probably not gonna be any musical intros or outros because everything that could go wrong went wrong. So I'm using my phone. Always have a backup. To the backup.
To the backup. A couple of things I need to mention. I'm a bookaholic. I need no encouragement to buy a digital or a physical book. I want to look at more books and audio books as treatment resources. But I am not independently wealthy. I don't have the space for them either in my home or even on my e-reader. So I'm probably going to be looking at the publisher's website to see if there's a table of contents or a sample chapter.
Sometimes Google Books has a book with an extended view, or there's a prior version of the book. I'll also check out a publisher's website or an author's website because sometimes they will have a chapter of the book on their website or they talk more about the reasons why they decided to write it. I am basically doing what I would do in a bookstore. Look at the front and back, skim what I can, and read what I can. So this is more a quick observation than it is a review.
Oh, one other thing, I actually read these chapters on the Kobo.com website. It was a little easier for me to navigate the pages than it is on Amazon. The book is divided into sections, mental health, social health, sexual health. Physical health and getting support.
In the support section, there are chapters about navigating the mental health system, what to do when you're having a mental health crisis, how to find a mental health professional, and how do you navigate primary care insurance and self-pay. The introduction explains how the book is set up under the bio psychosocial model. They explain that all that means is that they take a whole body holistic approach to healing. Now I am very much in favor of that particular point of view.
We don't have much of it in the kind of medicine that is practiced in the United States. It's little pockets here and there, but not near enough to count. But I can hope that one day we would have something. That would be akin to a holistic treatment practice. The book also explains that it's set up with a definition of the topic, the treatment options, coping skills and techniques. In the chapter on depression, the book defines the term, the symptoms and the treatment options.
They also give alternative treatment suggestions. And for people that have less severe forms of depression reframing options. I do not know what that means, but sounds good. I do like the way the this book is set up and how it provides understandable information. If you're looking for just in time information, this would be a good resource to turn to. I really like that you can go to a specific section that you need.
From what I was able to glean from the table of contents and the chapter on depression, I think this is a very helpful book and resource for your anxiety toolkit. So as I mentioned before, you can find a sample copy of the book on Kobo.com. Just search for the name of the book and you should be able to find it. Or you could visit the publisher's website, or you can visit the publisher's website to get a listing of the various. Places that you can buy the book.
And let's not forget, check out your local library. They may have a copy of the book and it doesn't hurt to say, Hey, can you purchase this book for the library? One? Never knows it could happen.
