Hello team, and welcome to the full idiot at Poker podcast, wherever hand is an opportunity. Every player is a friend and every episode is a winning experience. I'm your host, Joe Scales, and I am so glad to be bringing you this episode even though it's a little later. Thank you to everyone that reached out to me as well.
I never realized how many people have had kidney stones either that really kinda blew my mind. I am feeling much better now, though and looking to forget about maybe that part of the trip because the rest of our time in Vegas was so incredible. I was able to meet some of our listeners out there and I think next year, maybe we should have some kind of meetup up for dinner or cocktails somewhere. For me, and I think I can speak for l on this 1 as well.
Meeting you guys is always the highlight of our trip to anywhere. That's why it was so important for us to bring the cruises back, being able to have many of you in 1 place and getting the opportunity to sit down and play poker with you guys, It's gonna be such a great time. So if you haven't signed up there already, there's still some rooms available, and I wanna see as many of you as possible. So Go to any up cruises dot com and sign up. A new week of the Any up series
is back on Rad Poker. So I'll be able to play with you guys there too. With all that was going on in Vegas, I wasn't able to get on in play. But now we're back to I don't know, some sort of normalcy. And I plan to get on and play much more. So I wanna see those tournaments fill up join if you haven't already. I will say, I missed playing the heads up format while we were in Vegas, and the speed that I was able to get through a game. I could kick out a couple of games in, like, 20 minutes, tops.
And if you're not as good at the heads up format, what better way to practice than to get in a bunch of hands. When we had Na sean on a couple of weeks ago, He was giving everyone that first month free, that'll be ending soon. So jump on, try it out for free. See if you like it. And if so, 4 99, a month for a chance to win so much more is 1 of the biggest bargain you'll find in Poker. I mean, they've given away over 200000 dollars already. That's all I have. So let's get on with the show.
Find out, what conversations are happening around the poker table. With table on. Elena and I are back around the table. At home. We made it. Yeah. We're not gonna give you the play by play the last 72 hours, but been pretty rough. Yeah. Between kidney stones and It crashes and who airports, yeah. We we made it though. We did. Made it and And well last weekend vegas was fantastic. Oh, incredible. Yeah. Loved it. And I'll just start with the win because we're gonna be
going back there again in December. So... I can't wait. We'll start... We we actually went down there to see Todd Le in in action. We... We had mentioned I think last week, I think I miss spoke. Didn't think I said that he was dealing at the win, but he's he was actually helping run the floor. Yeah. And doing a great job. Really in Truly. And and we're always gonna stay true to what we said last week, which is we're not out out in Vegas
to cover play by play. There's plenty of news and other media outlets that give you the hand by hand breakdown. We're we're out there to really see what's going on at the people, the overall tournament experience itself. And and part of the tournament experiences, people who don't make it to the end. Are out in other casinos playing. And so we either interacted with them at the table. Or got to see him in action just like Todd Le mans. 1 of our investors was was the floor
manager. So a beautiful poker room if you haven't seen it or or visited it. I would highly recommend it. And we even got to try maker's mark at the at the bar in the casino right next to really close by to the Poker room. So that was really fun experience. They didn't even they didn't have the original. Right? They only had 46 6. Yeah. We also... We had said we were gonna make it down to Jack Bin for a steak there. That didn't happen. We
didn't make it. So much going on. But we did we did have a nice dinner at chic. In the venetian. Yeah. Joe and I wanted to celebrate on day 10 for covering the W sop main event together that's That's what we chose. That's the restaurant we chose to celebrate. And then were we very pleased that that's the 1 we chose. I have always had this obsession. Okay. That's a good word for it.
With Cas. Like, there's a place back in Kansas that has the absolute standard that all other cases are judged by, and So this place had some table side case. So they actually make it right there in front of you. And it's... It was really, really good. It's different. It's not the same kind of case so that... You're used to. But... Yeah. But it was really good. It was it was just awesome
our that our wage even. It's typically, it comes with a different meal, but she was willing to just give us an additional charge for the experience and the table side. Entertainment, I guess you could say. But we... I had the Venezuelan short rib, which had, C Mash next to it. So good. Yeah. And I had the Hawkins roti chicken. I hope I said that right. Sounded sound right to me. Our meal was phenomenal. The service was exceptional. And I also got to try a maker's mark drink there called the
peach Fuzz. It's maker's mark with peach preserves, lemon bidder and, q club soda. Little on the sweet side for me, I think I think the peach preserves, which is what what took it over the edge for me, but very good. Yeah. So, I mean, maker's Mark followed us around. I mean, it it it it was definitely a part of our experience in Vegas as well. So, always appreciate them being a sponsor of the show. So while we were out there, we made some great connections with people, like,
Joe kim did a phenomenal job. Also just working on our reels to add to our social media and things like that. Dustin, we met Dustin, 1 of our listeners, we met up with him. Were able to have a breakfast with him and actually filmed some of his tips and tricks out there for those of you going out to Vegas. Yeah. Dustin actually has had a great opportunity to be able to go twice and play in multiple events throughout the whole series. And so, you know,
as we just... As we talked with him over breakfast, we said, sounds like you've done this a couple times and he was like, yeah, And I have this routine I follow, and I... And we both agreed. We wanted to share that with all of you. So definitely, take a look at, all the tips and tricks that dustin and shared just from registration to nutrition while you're there to you know, what to look out for, how to plan your... How to plan your trip.
Yep. Overall. I mean, every time we travel, we learn something, and he had excellent information, so really great to meet you, Dustin. And we also got to have breakfast on a different day with Norman Mary anne. Yeah. They are incredible as well. Love meeting them. Special couple. They are a team. Yeah. Now when you meet AAA couple. It's like a power couple... I think they're power couple. Yeah. 100 percent. 100 percent.
Enjoyed talking to them. It was kind of rushed a little bit more than than I think we would have liked because we had... That was on our final day there in Vegas after our night in the yard, So we didn't get to spend probably as much time as we would have liked with them, but it was wonderful meeting them, and, of course, William, the the pharmacist at the venetian. Yeah. We get... I highly doubt William is listening, but what he doesn't know is is I I believe he's getting a dozen bacon
roses delivered to his workplace this week. William, the pharmacist was pivotal in our medical experience. So needless to say we met people through Poker, through trips to Walgreens through, you know, just fancy meals out. Our whole trip, we were greeted and taken care of by lots and lots of phenomenal people. And that's always my favorite thing to do when traveling is meeting new people, and I would say that we're extremely grateful for those that we've met on this trip. Oh,
absolutely. And, you know, our our last 2 days because the main event ended and we had 2 days before we had to fly out. Yeah. And 1 of those last 2 days was supposed to be our day to go back downtown because you did we were down there for a little bit, but you really didn't get the experience the whole Fremont months. Fremont Street and all that. And so our goal was to go back down there play dollar blackjack jack. Eat a 12 dollar prime rib. Okay really saving up my steak experience for that.
And then maybe hit the rooftop pool at Circa. We intentionally added multiple days onto to our trip so that we could have a little bit of breathing room, meet with people have some fun. That ended up being way more expensive 2 days than we anticipate at an urgent care and an, which I just 10 out of 10. Don't recommend any urgent care or visit when you're out of your comfort zone, meaning, hometown where you know where to go.
So you know, lessons learned take medications with you, even if you don't need them. Right. Even if you haven't them in a while. And this may sound doom and gloom, but 1 of the big takeaways we took from this trip in particular was it's always a good idea to research hospitals or urgent cares wherever you're traveling. Just so you don't have to make decisions under pressure. So, I mean, I know we've gone state in resorts.
And we travel out of the country a lot, but I think this is something I'm gonna pay more attention to and just just having some some idea of where you should go and case things come up because say la. Yeah. Poor L was on the phone with everybody that we possibly could have met in the last week just trying to figure out what hospital to go to. It And, meanwhile, I was not much help writ in pain. So, I do appreciate you making all those phone calls, and, of
course, figuring all that out. But of course. But let's talk about the W sop. That's why we were there. This what brought the most most excitement outside of the visit. Overall, I would say, I was so impressed with the number of players that were there, number 1. Number 2, the language is being spoken, the countries represented. I did not anticipate it being so a diverse experience, and it was awesome to meet people
from all over the world. You know, of course, we heard bad beats and success stories, but in general, I was just in awe at the amount of people participating in the event. Right. And those last 3 days man. Action packed. Action, packed. The last 3 days in the main event. Day 8. We consistently bounce between the 3 tables that are in that main arena at horseshoe. And, you know, of course, our hearts were heavy
when Chrissy Fox was eliminated. She had the best shirts I'm still gonna try to get 1 of those Yeah. T shirts, no Fox given. And there's a fox with her glasses on. Yeah. So if there's any Chrissy Fox and fans, that are close to her, please right into the show and let me know how can get 1 of those shirts I will pay premium to get 1 of those. But also, like, Jesse Bryant, and... Oh, played his heart out. Man. So we hated to see him go, love meeting Jesse Caps. Not duck man or Duck.
I can't remember when he... What he prefers to go by, but we were able to hang out with Jesse quite a bit. Over the last week and so enjoying meeting him and also just ad admire his friend Igor Mo. And the rail he brought... Let me tell you the support for him was on unreal. Yeah. A crazy rail and loudest by far on that day. 1 sure. 100 percent. We went to bed day 8, not really knowing what to expect. Obviously, we're down to top top 9 and rolled in day 9 and Big bird, Jason S,
the brightest rail. But by far. Those big versions were amazing. I love those shirts. And you brought up a good point. How do they pee... How do they get these shirts made so quickly? Yeah. I don't know if they had to pay a pretty penny or if they already came prepared in hopes that it was gonna happen. I'm not sure. I mean, even Nicholas from Sweden, even his rail head shirts Yep. Made very quickly.
So Every player has ridiculous things that they do, Sea rock, had ice packs on day 8, and I just could not stop dying laughing. His buddy would rotate between 5 ice packs for him. I think overnight, they thought, we gotta come up with a better and 3 9. And he had a a neck fan, whatever those things was cooling. Yeah. Gadgets are... So I was I kind of impressed, but then it took away that need a relieve for me. So that was also an action packed day.
Yeah. Originally... High high level then going on. Right. And the original plan was to end the day at 4 players come back the next day, but Jason Say, Big bird he he busted before that last level, so we actually ended up starting day 10 with 3 instead of 4. And the chip counts were pretty close. Yeah barry. So we thought k, The action will be a little bit slow. They'll feel each other out, not the
case. Definitely not the case. And I actually pid around a little bit that morning if you wanna use that word, Just thinking, okay. It... The action is not gonna start off quick. I can take my time. I can pick up lunch trust. You you actually got there. It's... I'll tell you, it kinda started out a mess for Joan a disappointment for me. You you got there with no media I got there forgot my media pass. Yeah. I'm like, On the phone with L going. So when you come, make sure you bring
my media pass. And I'm, like, really Joe. I know Really? But then I'm like, I'm trying to do my best. I promise you I gonna pick up lunch. So I actually, I think I ran your media pass first, and then I went and picked up lunch, but I had no clue that action was gonna go that past I was I was devastated that I wasn't there for Nicholas. Well, Nicholas is elimination, but I had 0 idea that he would clap back that quick. You wanna use that word? Yeah. Jordan G started
the whole day being very aggressive. And I was texting you during that whole thing. I was, like, G has upped his... 1 thing. 1 on his mind at yeah. And and it was it was a good thing, but it got him the... To make this call. Nicholas made this call, I think, because of G being so aggressive Early on. And so he was gone before you knew it. And, of course, we're down to heads up. So what do they do? They bring in that that money and dump it on the table. Yeah. That's not a show. That's legit.
I mean, then the way that they also take it out, is very serious in armed guards in a locked cart and I'm panicking. I'm like, oh my god. I've gotta get the shot. She just followed the brief. I just followed the brief briefcase in because there's a... Like, she said, there's the security guards with guns in the front. Everybody just makes a path for them to bring the money in, so I just snuck in behind them to the rail and started filming But, I I didn't film anything else. I was
trying to be respectful. I didn't wanna film too much, but I didn't wanna get thrown out. So I filmed what I could have that and then got out of there until you came back with my immediate pass. But... Yeah. And and really from that point on was the edge of our seat. I mean, media dashing all over the room with heads up multiple times, My would have the lead, G would have the lead,
you know, who... Who all the chatter in the room was who's gonna take the title down and you know, and people pulling for g. He's a family man. I want this guy to win. He's an amateur. Like, it wouldn't be amazing for him. And then the psycho all in. Where tam my flop to straight. I literally was grabbing my head. Like, what what? Like, how does that happen? I feel like there were numerous points in the in the final table where we were like, oh, my gosh. I can't believe that just happened.
Mh. Well, there were really tons of moments like that. They're throughout the whole tournament because we were talking about before, like, day won, there were so many hands where quad Oh, showed up. Oh, yeah Like, it's create... There's insane hands this this year in the tournament. Anything can happen. Is what you should know. Anything can happen. But, yeah. Then, of course, at the end, everybody's kinda been talking about the the controversy that that followed that. Right. So should...
Well, first of all, there were laptops and phones everywhere The whole time. Everywhere, on many people's rails and not even just rails, like, behind the scenes, we know that players are always analyzing their play and other others play. When they get to watch the quote unquote, livestream stream that's released, it's an hour later. So just so you know, if you're watching this at home, you're actually watching an hour after the action.
So lots and lots of players are studying, Lots and lots of players have have people on the rail or behind the scenes that might not even be there that are watching the play. And analyzing and and giving advice. What should you do the next day? What should you do if you run into this, player again and so on and so forth. But I think this year, There is a solve being used and that's the big controversy is we all know people are gonna study the film.
Right. I mean, you would only be wise to do that. But solve... Yeah. It's Of course, I'm always going to lean toward... I want to be playing you, not somebody on your rail and you, not somebody putting it all into a system, and and all, I'm I should be playing just you. I mean, Tomatoes wearing a patch of somebody that created a solve. Right. Right? So so maybe not the same opportunity. I don't know. But I think it's it's definitely going to change things in the future I feel like.
Oh I definitely think that the W sop would be wise to ensure that some type of rule and regulation is established upfront before next year's game. Yeah. And so then at I guess the last part of that is, we have to also mention that it sounds like Jeff Platt curse is broken. Oh, yeah. That's 1 of the things that Mayo said leaving the room. Yeah. Cursed broken. Because Jeff platt in case you don't, the rumor is Jeff Platt talks to you you bust out. Like... I mean, Chris and Fox
from the table. Somebody somebody in her rail was talking to Jeff Clad, and and and from the table, Kristen like, get so and so away from Jeff Platt now. Now. Now this... You know that this is not allowed. So players secret it seriously. Yes. Yeah. It's she said, good thing I saw that. Right. So... But he he had talked with My And tomorrow still won. So curse broken, question mark? Yeah. Here's 1. We'll we shall? We shall. Nana am I glad that we went.
It was a it was a great experience overall and already looking forward going back in December, really looking forward to, meeting more anti up team members on our cruise in the fall. If you're still considering, you can still jump in. We would to have you. And as always, it's pleasure being around the table with you, joe. Likewise. That one's time for call the floor with Elliott checked.
Elliott Sc joins us each week to say how he would rule on situations that come up in your games, and he's with us again this week. Elliott, how's it going? Thanks for going pretty well. Joe. How you doing this week? Oh, doing well. Still out here in Vegas, Covering, we're down to We're down to 3 right now. So That's right. We're recording a little bit early. So by the time you guys hear this, it will actually be over but. But, yeah, we're down to 3 right now. And they're gonna finish
on schedule as they play. Yeah. Which has been pretty much unheard of this series. Yeah. That's for sure. But, hey, we... We have a call the floor this week this sent in by Clark Francis, and this is an interesting when he He says he was in a hand with 3 others, so 4 of us to the flop of all hearts. The first player to act puts in a substantial bet. There is 1 fold then the player to my right throws his cards away. But as he does, he toss them fairly high in the air.
The player that raised said, hey, I saw those and the dealer immediately calls the floor. Now the floor rules that the hand should be turned over for me to see as well. And Clark says, I understand the premise that if 1 player has more information than another, then it's not fair, but they didn't ask the player to identify the cards in any way or get any kind of feel that they even saw the card. So Clark says, I didn't feel like this could be the proper ruling.
What would stop me from saying, hey, I saw someone's cards just to get the information about what the player was holding or playing from that position or if there are other hearts in their hand or whatever. So he says, in this particular hand, it didn't really make a difference. I folded and we moved on. It just really had me curious as to if this was the proper procedure and if not, what would be the correct way to handle this?
I just don't feel like someone should be able to state that they saw someone's cards and it just be turned over so quickly without any way of confirming that they actually saw them. So what are your thoughts Elliot? Well, I agree with the premise Clark? Yeah. It's an easy angle to pull. Oh, I saw those cards. All of a sudden you get to see more information. Right.
And especially, the person who would claim to see the cards, saw them after he placed his wage, and it was on somebody else to act, So the effect on that particular bed, was nil. So again, yeah, to immediately stop all the action and the Florida immediately turned them over, doesn't seem reasonable to me. And and that's generally not how things should go.
Yeah. You you certainly have to take the entire context, the entire situation, all of the relevant information into account before you'd side to do something as drastic as turning over dead cards. It doesn't appear to be the case here. There wasn't a whole lot of masking. A dealer said... Oh, these cards were exposed. Right. Well, no. We don't know they we're exposed. And. Nobody could identify them. So again, yeah. Then sometimes you gotta slow down a little bit when you're making a decision.
And this is probably 1 of those times. It certainly sounds like it. Yeah. I I agree with, your thinking there, Clark and and, and your instincts were spot on. What if what if instead of at that point turning the hand over? Because, like you said, he had already placed his bet. Right? What if after Clark had called or made his action, then if it was necessary, then they could turn the hand over. Would that be the way to do it or not turn it over at all?
Yeah. The answer hasn't most nuanced decisions is it depends. There will be spots where you would wait until the end of the hand to show the cards. There would be spots where you never show the cards. This is certainly a marginal spot. Could you go either way? I suppose, a lot of people can make the case for either. My instinct tier is do not show these cards, a few players had a chance, and it's not entirely discernible whether those cards were exposed or not.
Better safe than sorry. Cards that were meant to be, not shown. It should remain not shown, barring really good reasoning. And I can't find it in this particular case. There are spots where you should be showing the cards of course. Right. And even then it it's still generally better to delay showing them, than to show them immediately. And certainly in cases where the the cards have no effect. And again, I mean it he could have folded a heart, key heart, picture ace doesn't matter.
But again, Yeah. I didn't... Taking 1 person's word for it and then immediately acting on it that's a little rash. Yeah. It does seem like they kinda jumped at exposing these cards a little quick. I I don't know. I don't know if you can ask the player to identify 1 of them to be able to make sure that he saw them either though. So I was curious to see how how you would handle that. I guess how do you verify? How do you verify that he even saw the cards?
How would you normally verify something like that? Or does it even matter? Well, sometimes it does. It matters more obviously before the best place than after the best place. In right. But it still matters. You you you you certainly don't want players acting on information they shouldn't have. You don't want people possessing an advantage over somebody else because of the ability to see somebody's cards. All that is true. That doesn't change, and that certainly leads people to show cards in
a lot of those situations. Those feelings are not entirely invalid, but you still gotta be careful. Again, if if you're gonna show those cards every time you're opening it up as Clark referred to to everybody who claims to have seen cards and all of a sudden, you gotta show them, which they if it became rampant, would certainly make the game un unfavorable. Right? Because it'd being Yeah stopping all the time to show people's cards who folded. Then need nobody be able to fold in peace.
It would be horrible. Yeah. Of course. I mean, if a guy's gonna literally lift his cards show the person who's about to bet his cards, and then throw them away. Yeah. Those cards probably bothered probably gotta get home. And the player who did that probably needs to be taken aside and and explain how this is supposed to work or or should be encouraged to play other games. Right?
At some, you've gotta actually follow the rules and following the rules means throwing your cards away in such a way that nobody gets to see that. So helicopter it has it's called on pi. I don't know it. So... The action of the the word is correct, but it's so un and such a mouthful that we shouldn't be using it. But that's generally what it's called. When you send your cards up high enough that people can see them and they flop back down. Yeah. You don't want people doing that either.
That's not responsible handling of your cards. That's certainly within the rules of the game. In the Td obviously rule 2, play responsibilities, and cash games most rooms have at least a brief if not explicit reference to how players should maintain their cards and and get them to the dealer when it's time to fold. So again, yeah There are different answers for different situations, and
Yeah. There's a a wide spectrum of weather whether cards may or may not have been seen or shown and the remedies for those situations. But, yeah. Yeah. We gotta keep the game fair, which means sometimes you're gonna see them. And sometimes you're not, and it, yeah. Based on, pretty well described event from Clark here. I'm not convinced that the cards needed to be
shown here. And so maybe in this case, it's just a let it play out and then maybe even a warning to the person throwing their cards, helicopter as you said, their cards to be a little more careful for sure. Right. Because even if we're not gonna show the cars, I mean then all of a sudden, you're giving you the opportunity to, the player who claims you saw them to announce 2 cards that he may or may not have seen. Yeah. There's just
too many unforeseen consequences. And in both directions, that's 1 from not showing the cards. Yeah. But on the side of caution would lead you to not show the cards as opposed to showing them. Right? You can't expose everybody's cards who may have may have been exposed in some fashion every time because we're all human and nobody is perfect. Somebody's gonna just send their cards in a way that something catches And the air conditioner might have been blowing in wrong direction at 1 point.
Somebody might have been walking by somebody's hand might have gotten away. Somebody might have sneeze. I mean, anything could have happened. Right. So again, yeah. And automatically turning over cards immediately with little, polling or questioning of the players and dealer at the table and Yeah. Generally, not the result we're looking for. Right. And Click, you... As Elliot pointed out, you described that situation very well. So kudos for that. Thanks for sending that in.
If anyone has a call the floor that they would like Elliott to rule on, send it to podcast at any at magazine dot com. And Elliott, you... A bonus points for the any ups shirt today. Thank you. Glad to glad to rep our find cash. Yeah. Break it, and, we'll we'll catch you again next week. Definitely. Let's break it down with hand of the week. We're back with another hand of the week. Patrick, how's it going? Am pretty good, man. How's Vegas? It is hot.
Well, let me let me rephrase that It is hot out side and cold inside. Yeah. I am wearing a hoodie currently because it is cold inside. Yeah. That's understandable. What is the temperature? Like, a hundred and 5. It's been... Like, yesterday, I think it was a hundred and 9 a hundred and 10. Today should be about the same. It was 01:17 when we got here, 01:18. God. Went... Yeah, 18 the next day? Yeah. So count me out. I'm not upset about it. I love it. Yep. Meeting inside count me in for that 1.
Well, also, we walked down up the horseshoe down the hallway to Paris. And that's where the jackpot digital tables are. And Yeah. I have yet to be able to sit down on them and play. They've just they've constantly got people on them. And it's awesome. Well, you you know what? That's exactly what we were kinda thinking, So really glad to hear it For for for those guys for our guys, but, I mean, I guess people having fun. They're join it. Yeah. The... This that's that's 1 thing I will tell you.
Every time I go by there, people are having a great time with it. So looking forward to being able to actually get on there and play. Maybe I'll have to just go in there late at night and, you know, the only 1 in the As as you're gonna head back to the hotel... As you're getting a head back to the room, You're like, alright. I gotta make a pin stop and we could see this What's what this is.
I also just wanna give a shout out to Bobby Wood junior before we get too far into the hand of the week because just missed when in the home run derby or at least tying the home run derby. At least time in the. Well, I mean, if we're if we're given our teams, you know, shout outs, you know,
on this. That's it. We can just move all, not not a baseball podcast, but If anyone watched the actual All star game the next night, you know, the the mid midsummer classic always has an Mvp, and and I don't know if you saw. But then Mvp came from the 1 Boston Red sox. So just saying if if mister Duran is listening, I... You know, that would be awesome, but, congratulations to my friend. That is a great That's was fun. It was it was a lot of fun washing in summer classes. And now we make a run.
Yeah. And then you can spend that Probably New York, Yankee fans out there. Whatever we're coming for you. There you go. I like it. I like it. Hey. If if both of our team wait If both of our teams make it in to the the playoffs? Does that mean you have to spin the wheel punishment twice? Twice. III think that's the only way. I mean, because At at this point, I would spin it twice and just for us to have both of our teams getting. I like it. I think so.
Yeah. Alright. Do I get to pre approve what's on the punish? Absolutely not. That's great. Alright. Maybe I'll stick with 1 Let's let's let's place them poker. Alright. So we've got ahead of the week. It's sent in by Cali Rush. I'm assuming that's how you say your name, Colin, If not, please send me an email and and let me know. But CALLAN. Call Rush. Cow, I gotta tell you. I... I'm going... I'm sticking with that. Hardcore. I think that's out for now. You have a far name
than I do. So Appreciate my friend. Call... Alright. What's what's our friend playing? Colin is playing 1 3. Who And he says our stack is 300 as we just added a hundred dollars to top it off before the hand started. We had been losing a bunch of small pots and not really getting much going. K. And he says Villain 1. In this hand is under the gun plus 1 and has 270 in his stack, and Villain 2 is on the button and has 01:50 in his stack. K. We're gonna be in the cutoff in this hand.
So K. Villain 1 raises to 10 dollars from under the gun plus 1, and it folds to us in the cutoff with the Ace Diamonds jack of clubs. I love a good billing story. 10 tough time to be the good guy. I think we're I think we're raising this. I think we're raising it. I think we're raising it, tom 35. You you like that Ace diamonds jacket clubs. I like that Ace diamonds Jack clubs, and I wanna get rid of at least 1 of these guys. Yeah. III guess the problem is under the again plus 1.
It's gonna have a lot of strong hands in their range. So Yep. Sounds like we've been bleeding chips for a while. So... And that's why we topped off our stack. Right? So that's a good point. I don't really wanna go crazy here. I'm fine I'm fine with a... Just a call and hope we just smash the flop. That's that's what I'm gonna go with. Fair. We've got good position. So Call calls as well. Cup. As does the 2 on the button. So we go to the flop, 3 handed and what 34 dollars in the pot.
The flop is the 7 of Diamonds queen of spade jack of diamonds. Villain 1 bets 15 and is on us. 15, a little less than half pot. Pair our jacks Patrick's feeling aggressive. I am feeling aggressive today because I wanna come over the top. But that being said, I I don't I don't want too just yet. I would probably call. Yeah. I think we this call here. We have bottom pair backdoor diamonds we're definitely not folding, obviously, but I don't wanna go crazy. So I think it's... A call is good.
Yeah. And that's what Cali does. K. And Villain 2 calls as well. So the pots getting up there now at 79 dollars, and the turn is the king of diamonds. Now Villain 1 checks. See, I don't like that. I should like that, but I don't. And let me tell you why. Yes. We have the A diamond great. But now we've got even more hope. And hope can be a bad thing. And I'm a glass half guy. Let me tell you. You said Villain 1 check to us. Correct? Yeah. I think I'm gonna check a right around.
I... I'm not gonna fall. I mean, if I I don't you know, big pocket pair. They got queens. They've got aces. They had ace king, diamonds. There's... I mean, not playing conservative wise. However, I I can make them on a pretty good hand. So is the the the check being just bait us. So I... I'm following that up again. Yeah. I think my biggest thing is you sound like you've got a different thought process. No. I I think I wanna check, but I think just my reasoning is a little different,
we've got that person. Okay. We've got that player left to act after us. Right? Yeah. If we were heads up, then I would put some money in. But since we're we're kinda caught in the middle here so to speak. I'm just gonna I'm just gonna check, see what happens. And... K. Let's see Cali checks as well. Before we go for any further, this is not to validate my thought process earlier I might have been a wee bit
aggressive there. But to start, you said if we were playing heads up, you think at this point in the way that got it's kinda flow. Could we we've have gotten 1 of these guys heads probably not bill 1 in under the gun. Right. But the button maybe? Never know. Yeah. We we probably could've got them away. Yeah. For sure. Okay. Something to think about, but yeah I'm not always right. The problem is the problem is you have to weigh that. Right? You have to weigh it with
Okay. I got this 1 person out and we're heads up now, but that we bloated the pot. Right? Which in this case, Yeah. In this case, probably wouldn't be bad since he checked to us, but I don't know. In the moment, I felt like that would be a mistake, Not a mistake, but not the way I wanted to go for sure. Sure. Yeah. No. That makes sense. So alright. So we check calendar checked button checked. Correct? No. Villain 2. Bets 40 dollars. Oof, there you go. That literally is exactly why you did not.
And Villain 1 calls. So... Yeah. Is right. There's a lot. There's a lot can be sad by well, that's a pretty big portion of Villain two's stack. He started the hand with a hundred and 50 bucks. Yeah. So he's going even more, and we're on a we're on a diamond draw. Well, and we also have We have jacks. I don't feel so good about the Jacks now. That's lot better when I was holding just those 2II think think III think I'm folding. Really? Because I am, I went from very aggressive
to start this hand too. I just wanna play the next hand. And a very quick about of. But you tell me how wrong my mindset is. Well, I I mean, we've got the the nut flash draw. We're not... I'm not going anywhere. Really. Yeah. We got middle pair and the nut flush draw. I don't wanna raise, but I'm not going anywhere. I... Yeah. No. I can't I can't let lay down the numbers call. Fair enough. So, yeah, I'm calling. You're folding call calls as well. Colin and I have been on the same
page. This whole this whole. On everything. Yeah. On every last 1 of them. The pot now is what, a hundred and 99 dollars or something. And the river is the 10 of diamonds. Cali says, he's got the little asterisk in there and says note. This is where it gets weird. Oh my gosh. How Alright. He says, and I don't know how to play this spot. After check calling the previous street. Villain 1 now leads out for only 12 dollars. Into a part of almost 212 12. And he had 2 70 to start with.
So he he's got still chips in his hand. 12:12 dollars. Now, keep in mind say what when we're talking. Yeah. Say what we're talking. Go ahead. 12 dollars into a pot of 1 99. Okay. Alright. Keep in mind, what? Keep in mind, we have the nut flush, but we do not have we do. There's at least, yeah. Queen 9 Queen 9 is a straight flush. Queen 9 of diamonds. Oh, yeah. Is a straight flush. And I think I have to go back and look here, but I think 9 8 of diamonds is also a straight flush on the other side.
It is 7 diamonds, 8 diamonds not a... Yet because there's 7 there's 7 jack... 07:10 jack king of diamonds on the board. So you're right. We don't have the nines. So now, are they betting super tiny to get chips in the pot? Yeah. I mean, I Again, like, Colin called it, like, that's weird. That's a weird bet. That is a hundred percent of weird bet. I don't know what to do on that. And. I think I I think if I was actually playing in this game, I would look at the guy and be like, did you
mean to put more in? Right. I think I might say that. Out loud. I I don't know. Joe, What are you gonna do? I know I only go first, but I don't know. There's there's only 2 hands that beat us. This 2 straight flush that are possible are the only ones that are gonna beat us. Which are significantly low percentage of holding. I feel like this is some kind of blocker bet, like, trying to get us to not bet big.
So what do you do when you feel like somebody is trying to get you to go 1 direction, you go the other? So I'm gonna race Yeah. How big? So we could get cute. Right? We could just men raise them and be like, oh, you wanna put in 12. Fine. I put in 24. Start start playing a head game. But... Alright. I think III because we have that other player in there, I don't think I wanna do that. I think I, I'll probably just... Although if you do that, then maybe you get them to put their chips in too.
I I'm gonna I'm gonna get a weird way. That does sound like a great idea. Right? My my my gut initially was to put in 45 dollars, though. Okay. But that would be kind of a fun way to get more chips in there. Might change my mind. I think I... Yeah. I'm just gonna put it... Just men raise it. That's phenomenal. 24 it is. What do what about you? Is that what you're doing? What what... I mean, I had bigger in my head. I mean, you said 45. I had somewhere in that 40 ish range in my head of,
it it... That's threw me. I mean, it really threw me. You're right. We don't have the nuts, but we sure do feel pretty good about our hands. So, I mean, I had... Yeah. Like I said, I was somewhere in that you know, lower 40 range anyways. I'd still stick with that. I don't know. I'm not I'm not cute enough to do and mess with them that way. What it I'd, I can't wait through this. I what a calendar it. Well, before I get to that, let me let me just say if you do put in a bed of 45
some... Or in that 40 range. And Yeah. They come over the top. The good news is they can't come too far and, like, they only have, like, a pot size bet left. So Right. So I feel like even putting in the 40 dollar 45 dollar range. If they shove, we can still call. Right. Yeah. I don't think it's... I don't think that's too bad. That it, Call just calls and the button does too. Called the. He just called the 12 dollars. All that's hilarious. The villain shows the queen of Diamonds 10 of spade.
So they blocked 1 of the straight flush ended up with a smaller flush than us. And fill too mu to their cards. So Cali question is did I miss value on the river? Am I gonna get called by worse hands on the river if I race? III mean, My gut reaction is yes. You probably did. That us is also coming from the guy that wanted to lead out really, really big, and then I ended up folding the flush. So, you know, take my input with a grain of salt here today.
But, yeah. III guess the the the short and quicken answer is, yes you probably did, but it's more or less of how... I mean, if you come out, you know, 12 dollars to us and you come out and you do 45 like you said, Joe. Is that guy calling? Yeah. Seeing his cars now. He's got Queens? Yeah. Probably... It he's probably calling that. It's to see. Yeah. It's tough to get value from some of the hands, but I think in this specific hand, that you're getting called.
But I guess my my question is more of why does that matter? So if if you are willing to put in the 4 big blinds, if you raise what are you missing out on? Because you either got the 4 big blinds from them or you if they folded, you still got the 4 big blinds from them with the potential of getting more. So I I don't think that I I just don't I don't understand what you're worried about there as far as
getting value. If they fold, you still won the 4 big blinds, which is what you did when you called won the 4 big blinds. Now if you're worried about whether or not they had the straight flush. Okay. Fine. But, yeah, from that standpoint, you definitely missed out on value. Yeah. You're right. Either way, you took it down. Either way, you took it down Take it down, and and you send it to us in 1 of the... I would say top 5 strange actual 8 dollar bets that we've seen. 1 90 out of the pot, I bet
12. Yeah. I love it. If he would've have jammed, I think we would had to call too though. Yeah. Either the way. I think you have to. In that case, it would've worked out, but I think you have to either way. I mean, I think, I I... Ultimately, you know, the the... Yeah. Got weird for for you, Call, but I think you played it very well across the board. Yeah. Yeah. So. You you happen to play it well too. Credit crazy. I played it the same as Call for the most part until we got to the end.
So Yeah. They you go. And you probably would have... I mean, in that case, you may or might not have actually ended up getting any anymore out of it, but... Probably, but that being said, cal all done. Good hand. Yep. And if anyone else has a hand of the week that they would like Patrick and on a down, send it to podcast at n at magazine dot com. Patrick. Let's see this again next week. Coming me in. Thanks. God. And so ends another world series poker.
That bitter sweet moment where dreams are made and hearts are broken. The final hand has been dealt the chips are packed away and the once bustling halls of the horseshoe and Paris are ee quiet. During the summer, the W sop is the epicenter of the poker universe. It's a magical place where The only thing louder than the shuffle of cards is the collective sound of players mu. How did he call that? It's a time when players are either riding high on their chip stacks or low on their bank roles.
But no one's thinking about the aftermath, then suddenly, it's over. For the winners, the end of the W p is like winning the lottery. I mean, you get to hold up that bracelet or ba in the glory of your victory, and post for those awkward photos with large stacks of cash that... Let's be honest, you'll never see all in 1 place again. It's a time to celebrate. Right? But for every winner, there are thousands of players heading home with lighter pockets and shattered dreams.
Their stories are a bit less glamorous. They head back to their day jobs, their online grind or the nearest cash game determined to win back their buy in. The world series is referred to as summer camp for adults. And the final moments are further proof of that. You've made friends from around the world, shared laughs, bad beats, and way too many energy drinks. Saying goodbye is heart. The bonds formed over the felt are real.
Even if you only remember each other by your screen names and a vague description, like that guy with the weird hat. As the players file out, there's a mix of emotions. Relief because your body cannot handle another 14 hour day. Fueled solely by caffeine and adrenaline sadness because you're leaving behind the cam and excitement. And let's face it also dread because now you have to face the reality that there's not another chance for a bracelet tomorrow.
Returning to normalcy after the W is like, coming back from a vacation where you got sunburn just enough to be a constant reminder of the fun that you had on the trip. Regular poker nights feel tame now, almost mundane. You missed the high stakes drama, the bad beat stories that could fill a novel and the constant quest for that elusive bracelet. You also miss the W p's unique culture, the eccentric personalities, the colorful language
and the occasional celebrity sighting. Where else can you go all in against a Hollywood star, a tech billionaire and a random guy who's clearly been wearing his lucky shirt for the tenth day in a row. The end of the W sop also marks the beginning of planning for next year. You'll replay those hands in your head vowing to study more place smarter and not tilt when your full house gets cracked by quad. You'll hit the gym, eat better and prepare yourself mentally for another shot at glory.
And so the cycle continues. The end of the W sop is bitter sweet, but it's also a reminder that poker like life, is a never ending game. There's always another hand to be dealt. Another tournament to play, and another chance to turn those bad beats into sweet victories. So until next year, keep playing and remember in poker and in life It's not over until that last river card falls. That's today's 1 out, and that's today's show.
