Senate Republicans block bill to suspend debt limit and avert shutdown

President Biden’s legislative agenda enters a critical week as his bipartisan infrastructure deal hangs in the balance and a government shutdown looms after Senate Republicans blocked a House-passed bill to suspend the debt limit. Democratic leaders have struggled to strike a deal among progressives and moderates on the Senate-passed infrastructure bill. John Podesta was former President Bill Clinton’s White House chief of staff and was the campaign chairman for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential run. He tells Anderson Cooper his advice to Democrats is to “work it out” or “you’ll pay a heavy political price” for failing to act on the crises we’re facing.
