And That's what you Really Missed with Jenna.
And Kevin an iHeartRadio podcast.
Welcome to You and That's what you Really Missed podcast.
I'm Jenna, I'm Kevin, and today is the special super Bowl episode, the super Bowl of episodes because it was actually, oh yes, airing after the super Bowl?
Crazy crazy. Do you remember when we found out we were doing the super Bowl episode?
Is it when Ryan called us into the choir room? Was this the memory?
So yes, yes, yes.
And sat us down and said, here's what's happening. We're going to be the episode that airs after the super Bowl, and we're going to be in a super Bowl commercial and they're probably going to give you cars because it's for Chevy and that doesn't happen very often. It's like friends and we were like, oh my god. Have of us were like, yes, a free car. Half of us were like give us the money.
And which which we all got the money in tax. Yes, we actually said I don't really want a car, can you just give me money?
I was like, can you give us money and the car? Yeah?
Yeah? Fair.
I thought I'd be a really good son and give a car to my parents.
Oh, that would have been nice. Well we had would we have had to play the taxes like on the prices right, where like if you win a car you.
Have to say I do remember us all like very quickly, it went from oh my god, this is the craziest thing ever to do we to pay taxes on a car?
Yes? Yes, yes, yes, So the super Bowl. Of all Super Bowl episodes, this was the most expensive post super Bowl episode ever produced.
It was the most watched Glee episode ever produced to date, and it I believe broke our record for the longest days it took to film an episode. The pilot took three weeks. I think this took just over three weeks.
Oh, I thought this was a month.
Well, I think a month all in. I think it was like twenty something days of shooting fair something like that.
There's a lot to talk about there is.
I mean, why don't we let's talk about that commercial? Because so we were in a Chevy commercial see the USA and Your Chevrolet commercial and we had to film it over a weekend while we were still shooting the show, and some of us sang on it. Some of us were not in the commercial because it was an optional thing. I forgot Corey and Diana were not in it. And here's the thing.
This is like the beginning of the when everybody was like, oh, you can say no to things. Oh I'm not doing that. Oh this is crazy. You know.
I feel like not to be like too shady about it because obviously it's a super Bowl commercial. We were paid for it. It was nice, it was great, and it came to us like we dodged for it, but we were. We were all paid, like the how it works as you get paid the same fee. Yeah, and because of a super Bowl commercial, I think we probably expected to expected it to be more money than it was. Sure, and so sos them to do it because you know what, good on them. Yeah. I don't think we had like, for lack.
Of a better word, balls, Yeah, they balls in other ways, but not in this way.
Yeah, in that way.
I also was like, I want to be in a super in super Bowl. I wasn't a super Bowl commercial though previous to this, of course you were poor the other way.
Meet also fun fact, we were into super Bowl commercials this super Bowl because there was also an NFL commercial that we were in, but it just used clips from the Glee. And another fun fact is randomly my niece at the time, was in another car commercial during that same Super Bowl. So we were flown, you know, into Dallas where the Super Bowl was my hometown, and I remember us being in the suite where we were watching the Super Bowl and they were playing the commercials on
the JumboTron. Then all of a sudden, you know, we see our two commercials come and go, and then towards the end of the game, there's a commercial in my little niece Rose, and I think it was also a Chevy commercials, Like, what are the odds?
Awesome?
I finally getting a Chevy commercial, Like my six year old niece has beaten me there.
Of stage as you yeah, like what that's the doorway.
But it was very surreal, it was.
It was a lot of fun, Okay, do you remember though? We also shot this on a weekend in Manhattan Beach and the night before we put little Quardy over Street in the hot seat because he was new and so we were just asking him all the tough questions. We all got really drunk and we were hungover the next day in those beautiful white outfits and that was lit.
That was in the middle of ohh So.
We we shot Saturday, went home, partied, and then came back and shot Sunday.
We look. It also might have been the wildest party that we've ever had at the Love Nest.
We had Okay, so I had a wine club. I was part of a wine club at the time. I wasn't really drinking very good wine, but I was a part of a wine club. And we had like bottles of like copious bottles of wine that we never drank, and then we have these parties and they'd all be gone. It was really wild and thank gosh that Leo was the lead of this commercial and we literally sat in our dressing rooms for out.
I think that's why we did it, because we showed up the first day. Yeah, and I think we worked maybe thirty ten minutes. Yeah yeah, And so we were like, well, screw it, we don't We're not doing anything in this commercial. Let's see You're like, let's come back to our house. And I think I maybe slept two or three hours.
Oh yeah, no, yeah, I remember. Yeah, brutal it was.
It was. We really went hard.
But also in your in your twenties, in your twenties, you can do it. You can do it, and you can show up and you still do your job.
I remember all this because some people did some people sleep over at our house?
Yes, yes, we had a few people. Literally we rolled out to the commercial again.
To get it all looked unbad, crazy, the same outfense as the day before, showing up to here and make it like save us, and they did.
Like that was one of those stories where we were I had a late night well in between shooting a super Bowl commercial, it seems.
So. It was also really fun to go to the super Bowl. That was a really fun experience because you just rolling up style and all the parties, and I lost my license on the way home.
I brought my dad.
That's right. It was really fun. Those are really fun. And the stadium was new, so that was cool.
I have pictures of I flew back. We all like I flew back on a private plane.
I did.
I got on one of Fox's planes with Corey and our producer Dante.
Of course you did.
If there was a private jet, you found around figure out how to get on it.
That's right, that's right. Okay, So this episode is the Sue Sylvester Shuffle, and this is the super Bowl episode. This is season two, episode eleven, and it aired obviously on February sixth, two thousand and eleven, right.
After the Super Bowl. Do you remember who played in the Super Bowl? No?
I think it was the forty nine Ers told on me look, oh okay, No, it was the Packers and the Steelers thank you Jackie very exciting to be there, yes, happy to be there, and the rest of the Packers for defeating and sweet Christina aguilar is singing the national anthem when she mastered the words, and.
Leah saying America beautiful, America beautiful.
That's right, beautiful, okay right. The number one song was grenade by Bruno Mars. Yeah. And the number one movie was The Roommate Starting lighton Eastern Mika Kelly don't remember that one either.
No, okay. The Susan Wester Shuffle. The sou Savester Shuffle was directed by our own Brad Fauchuk, written by all three of them, the Holy Trinity, And we have a very special guest, Katie Kirk in this episode, playing herself. Do you remember Katie Kirk coming to set and meeting her?
Yeah? Oh yeah, definitely. That was a big one for me.
Yeah, because she was also there like reporting too. Wasn't she like, I think she's doing an actual in the episode she was doing a fake feature on Si Sylvester, But in real life, she was also doing a real feature on the show. Right, we're sitting in our like dance rehearsal. When we were rehearsing actually at Bernstein the High School. We were filming at.
Good Memory, and she sat in there, and I was very nervous. She her kids, I think she has two daughters, and they were fans of the show. And I think she came to the tour as well when we were in New York. And and then I went on the Katie Quirk Show at one point in my career. Wow, which was fun. Get enough Glee, I know, right, I love it.
What were the songs?
Jenong's Caliphonia Girls, just like that, I Need You Now by Lady Ah There She's not there, Bill's Bill's Bills, and Thriller Heads will Roll. Very exciting.
Now, I will say, I feel like this selection of songs and a lot of this episode is geared towards bringing in as many new people as possible to the Glee viewership. Yes, that's right, We're going to be accessible. We're going to be relatable. We're going to really extend our arms and bring in some new friends, and I do some of the biggest songs that everybody likes.
A very good episode, I will say for as big as it was very good episode.
Yeah, I because our memory of it is so altered by the circumstances in which it was filmed. I didn't really remember the content of the episode, and it was. It was a very solid Glee episode.
I have a lot of actual memories of shooting this episode. Do you do you yeah?
Oh, yeah, yeah, because we did it for so long. I think we shot probably two other episodes currently while we filmed this one episode.
Tell me what give me a gimme a summary, Kevin. Basically, what happens in this episode. Sue is unimpressed with her cheeros. She's bored, so she's trying to find a new way to step up her cheeros routine for regionals, but when she gets rejected from using a cannon, she takes away the halftime show for the championship football game that McKinley's actually in for the first time. Meanwhile, the football team in Glee Club joined forces to perform in the cheerios
place take that sual Sylvester. But obviously, you know, not everything goes as planned. Fun facts, like we said, this was the most expensive post super Bowl episode ever produced. It featured over five hundred extra there's a lot of people. We had lots of different We had fire breathers, BMX, bikers, jugglers, pyrotechnics, you name it. This is a whopping twenty six point eight million views we got. That's right, highest rated script to t broadcast in the past three years leading up
to it. Yeah, but and now also, this episode had a lot of memories. We also it took so long. In addition to being so large and so expensive, people got sick.
Yeah, and we've talked about this a lot, but I didn't actually know. There was an article on the Today Show today dot Com about it because lou the costumer was getting an award and she talks about how we had to shut down production, which was correct. We shut down production because I was sick. Diana ended up getting sick. It was Diana's sickness that actually gotta shut down.
Yeah.
Yeah, and yeah, she had tonsilitis, I had bronchitis and the flu, and so like, okay, let's not let's nip this in the bud immediately. Right, it was rough because as you can see, like I have a full face of prosthetic makeup on poor thing, and so not only do I have to like sit underneath that, I'm then exposing a full hair and makeup trailer to whatever sickness I have, because it took three hours to get me into that.
Right, So that's the bad thing about the hard thing about Hollywood. Not the bad thing. The hard thing is, like you're I guess pre COVID we were encouraged not by one person, but like just encouraged to like push through, right, Like there's a lot of episodes we'll here, like us have some kind of measle congestion or something crazy. Because if you shut down a production because you are sick, you cost It's called an insurance day, and it's a lot of money lost, a lot of money lost for
one day work, especially on our show. And so I found that it felt like I was really sick for one episode. I think it was a Valentine's dance and not this year, but another year. And Brad looked at me, He's like, are you okay? And I was like, not really, but I'm here and He's like, I'll shut down the day if that's what you need. And I was like, that's very nice to you, but like I'll push through, just like send me home early if you can, and
he did. He did, but I was like sweating. I was working and I was literally sweating, and I remember seeing you in the wheelchair on the football field, like shivering. Was that this episode?
Yeah? I was really bad. I remember calling. I was driving down to Long Beach to do a night shoot and I had gone to my doctor the day before. He's like, I'm not convinced you have the flu. Let's see how you are in twenty four hours. Cut to me in like a CBS parking lot. I run in. I'm in the parking lot and I call the doctor. I'm like, hey, I have to be at work in an hour in Long Beach. I'm outside the CBS. I have one hundred and two point five fever.
Oh my god.
And they're still telling me to come into work because I was calling being like hey, so like this fever is really high, thinking they would tell me to go home and they're like no, no, no, come in. Okay, I won't say who told me to come in?
Yeah, but the night shoots are rough too, and it's like you feel pressure and I can't with that.
Yeah. I drove down there and I laid in my trailer and they had some of your double yeah, and he stayed in because I'm on the football field, I'm in a helmet. They had me right. It was rough though. It was because those insurance days. If you know, a normal episode costs I mean, it takes about eight to ten days to shoot, and each episode's about three million
dollars ish. This one was more so each insurance day is costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, that's right, and so they don't want to take it if they don't have to, and then they like.
Put it on you and you're like, okay, well, I guess I'll make it.
I was also, I mean, for this episode. In the next episode, I'm if you listen to the songs, maybe you can't tell, because they really helped me fixing it up. But I'm extra breathy and extra nasily because when you're sick, you have to rely on those devices to help.
Get it out, like favorite songs to do.
Yeah, And so there I was like, especially the next episode and we'll talk about it then, but I was I'm going into thriller. Luckily you're in a recording booth and you're away from everybody, and I would sing maybe two lines of the verse, and then I'd have to sit there wait for my voice to come back, because it would go out every single take.
Well, you sound really good on it. I didn't know that you were sick when you were recording it. I was watching it and I was like, oh, you sound so good on this.
No, you do the magic. You know, those Anders brothers. They really can sweeten me up, make you sound good when you can't, even when you have zero voice. That wasn't the first time we keep track of how often I'm sick. But it's a lot, all right. Should we get into the a little bit.
Of this episode?
Yeah, I forgot.
How much it was in this episode.
There's a lot in this episode. And I think starting off with this gigantic California Girls number with BMX writers and like fire breathers and burn it burning chest cones like in you know, a nod to the original Katie Perry video, and then Sue hates it. I imagine they probably did this to get people to stick around after the super Bowl, right, you.
Know, something something huge out the gate?
Yeah, do a song everybody likes. And then she's has something insane like the sandbags. Slap yourself with a chicken Cutlet no slap Brittany.
Yeah.
Nothing.
Sue is journaling or doing the Dear Diary about what her second act might be now that she's thirty one.
Here I am thirty one, and.
She's on her second act and she's bored, and she's trying to figure out how to revive her her life and her cheerios. And she sees a cartoon cannon on a TV show, so she buys the A nine fifty to shoot a human a Brittany s peers across a football field.
This whole storyline is incredible and hilarious, and she tries to get Brittany to go in it, and everyone's like, no, you should not. They actually shoot somebody out of it, right, Well, she has dumb the dummy. Well at first like somebody flies out and then ends up in that netting, which is incredible. And then when she see brad Ney to do it, she shoots the dummy and the dummy explodes.
I wonder how much that cannon was I don't know.
Just everything in this episode felt like there's an unlimited budget kind of yeah, like just do it.
But of course she tells Figgins about the cannon and Figgins is like, na, what it does.
Brittany is scared and doesn't want to do it and says, I don't want to die yet, at least not until One Tree Hill gets canceled. So good. So yeah, Sue gets in trouble, she's not allowed to do it, and then destroys the office again. I think this episode is like the greatest hits, oh yeah, because like show the country and the world the best parts of Glee and Sue having a meltdown and shoving kids is one of the best things that Glee ever did.
It just felt like when they were in the writer's room, like, okay, so this is the Super Bowl episodes, so everything we normally do we're gonna ten times, right, like one up ourselves basically satirically, and the the destroying of the principal's office and then into the locker room is probably my favorite part of this whole episode.
It's still going. Yes, I love it.
It's so funny because Figgins tells Sue that she can't launch anyone out of the cannon. It's just not that's not okay without their consent. And then she tells she and Bees, who are hanging out in the locker room, that she maybe she moved her regionals to the same night as the championship games, so therefore they have no cheerios and they have no halftime show. And then the cheerios and Quinn's Santana and Brittany are you know have their zombie makeup on, which we'll get to and Sue
over here conversation she's a the stall. It's the greatest hits of Sue Silvester, really, yeah, and gives them the ultimatum to choose between glee Club and the Cheerios. And obviously they're about status, or at least Quinn at the Helm, and so they choose they resign from the glee Club, which is sad, and then Finn confronts Quinn about Quinn and glee and then Sam comes up and yells, and I was like, I'm here for this argument.
Yeah, a little Cordy stepping up being like I can be the new leader. Maybe it's time for a change.
And Quinn being like this is hot. I liked Quinn and Finn again. I liked seeing Quinn and Finn again.
It's the start of a rekindling of the Quinn and Finn, isn't it.
Yes, So she's trying to get Brittany to sign the consent and form to be shot out of the cannon. That's a huge part of this is a lot of pressure and uh, Sue says, you don't climb in that cannon. That routine will be all boom boom and no pow and that Brittany is so two thousand and late.
Which was very appropriate.
Jenna, Why is that, Kevin?
Because the Black Eyed Peas performed at that very Super Bowl that's aging after.
Once again, just always in the line of the Black Eyed They're everywhere. So Katie Coreic is interviewing Sue.
How do you say her name, Katy Cork? Is that how you actually pronounce your name?
How would you say?
I feel like that's the Long Island way to pronounce it. How would you say it, Katie Couric? Say it again, Katie Cork, Katie Cork, I don't know what's right now, Katy Carrick, Like you say saying it sounds phonetically correct, Cork Cork correct, I say Kerr like kat e e R. Jackie the producer agrees with me.
Kurt, Katie kirk Cork, I'm not.
Going to try to change your accent though, you know.
Okay, don't never try to change me. I'm never going to change. So Katie Couric interviews Sue about being Loser of the Year because eventually, spoiler the Cheerios Santana, Brittany, and Quinn are going to quit Cheerios before they go to their competition, and they come and they perform with us at the Glee Club at the halftime game, and Katie Kuric interviews Sue about being Loser of the Year. Also, can we talk about Sue's very large jacket that she was wearing. I looked up at the screen when I
watch she. I was like, what is the jacket?
It's beautiful.
It is beautiful.
That is expert costuming.
And and Katie's you know, interviewing Sue and pressing on her about not caring about the safety of her students and her athletes, and she tells her that the Cheerios budget is now going to the Glee Club. So we're back at square one and Sue says, I hate you, Diane, so.
I love it. They're very good together, very very good. So the other thing that's happening in this episode, yeah, is Ko Max Adler. That storyline is picking a time to peak because let me tell you, he's he is the super Bowl episode right, this Kurofski storyline, and it's so good and he's so good. Props to Max Adler, gleek of the Week, because you know, you step up. You're doing this gigantic episode, it's a super Bowl episode,
and you smash it smashed. What happens is the football team, led by Kovski, is just not okay with so many of their members now that already's on the team being in the glee club because it's gay and they don't like it anymore. And Koski intentionally lets Finn get injured during a football game game by not game gay game. And then the football team also realizes aka Brad Fauchuk realized that Artie was the only one in the glee club to not get slushied.
Okay, pause, when did Brad Faulchuk find out? And did you tell him this?
I think I accidentally told him.
M M.
I remember where I was oh man, I was. We were walking next to the stages up to you know when you enter through New York Street to go into the choir room.
Set, yep.
And he's like, yeah, how many times have you been slushyet? I was like, oh, you know, I actually haven't been slushy yet. And he's like, huh, well, we're gonna have to fix that.
Oh shit.
And I think they were in the middle of writing the Super Bowl episode.
Oh my god, it happens right out the gate too very quickly.
Yeah, and there I was, now, tell me about shooting this. So we did it twice and because they didn't to make sure that they got it, to coordinate it, because there were nine guys doing it, and they each had two slushies, so yes, for math whizzes out there, that's eighteen slushies. Oh my god at the same time. And their problem is the slower you go, the longer you have to sit in the cold. And it was basically
like one two, one two. It felt like an eternity that happened eighteen times, and it's just piling in my lap. Thank God. I don't want kids because I probably can't have them now.
And I that slushy thirty six times, and when you're standing, you get slushy. The rest of the slushy falls to the floor you're sitting, it's falling in your lap. Yeah, it's sitting in your lap, all in one pace. How did you reset? Did you reset quickly? Did you have to go shower? What happened?
They pulled me into Schuster's office. I took off my clothes, and that poor hair and makeup team did to work, rubbed me down in shaving cream. My entire body was red. And then you just did it again, basically and did it again. No shower, but by that point the shock is off, but you're just cold. Yeah, and it took a hot minute too. But I mean they you know, they had done so many slushies at this point, they were ready. They had cameras everywhere.
I remember coming in and seeing the tail end of it. I don't think I watched you actually get slushy. Maybe I did. And they had the crane the bird's eye view of you, and I remember seeing like your head just like sitting down, you like looking down. I don't are you did you get the most slushy and of anybody? Then?
I believe so at least all at once.
I mean Tina got a bucket.
Actually that's true.
I feel like we're might because I did it twice or three times as well.
Of course we did. That was a lot I honored, though. I was like, if I'm going to get slushy, at least let it beat in the Supermowol.
Episode, Yeah, it was a mecca. It was a mecca. Okay, well you're a champ and that was really hard to watch and I felt really bad it was cold.
But it's also it's one of those things to psych yourself into it. You're like, okay, I'm getting paid to get slushied an episode that's gonna be viewed by a lot of people, Like this is a very cool thing, I you know. But also at the same time, it was just like who freezing? At least when we so in the next scene, like I wheel in because Beast, you know, has it come to Jesus with everyone, And it's like we're between the gleecland football team. This is
not what we do. I don't care. This makes no sense, Like I don't care about the championship game, Like you have to get your stuff together, and so they pull everybody together will and beast and I'm in there sitting in slushy and what did they do? It was just fake slushy. It was yes, the rubbers that you can see. It's just like sitting on top of my head because if it was the real slush it would have just gone.
Now, this scene was very are you memorable in my mind.
Because of one James Earl.
Yes, this is the first time we're really working with James Earl and as EMEO and this is the first time we had a lot of foreign football players in our in our room as well, and there was a lot to cover. And Brad Feldtrack was always known for really covering things quickly, getting in and out, and he was like, all right, this is how we're gonna do it. You're gonna say this, We're gonna keep it moving. We're
gonna get it here where get some coverage here. And then we're rehearsal scene and James Earl says this line and he says, wait too, want us to put the first half and then change into some sequeen gowns and then go out and do the halftime show at our own championship game. And we all burst and it's so funny. I don't know if he realized now.
I didn't, okay, right, because he goes, what's so funny, and they were somebody says sequeen. He's like, I don't know what that word is, Like it's sequined. He goes, oh.
I was like, keep it, just keep it.
Keep it, don't change a thing. And so every single time they didn't do that many takes of it. I think I remember it was like three or four takes.
They could have kept it.
No, we were losing it, and they're yelling sequeen ball gown.
Is very funny. They're very funny. This scene was very memorable. Oh god, so funny. We find out we're gonna be replacing the cheerios and now we're with the football team and people are having up and arms about it. But she thinks that rehearsals will unite us. I give us a united front, work together. So we go to zombie camp.
This SCENEO is also very memorable to me though, because it is freezing in that theater when you start at the top of the day there, it's a very large warehouse and it is very cold, and all I remember is being so cold on that stage and then we were learning. We were doing the zombie dance for thriller, and anyway, there was a lot of us.
There's a lot of us, and everyone's nailing it too because all of those other football players, a lot of them are actual dancers. Yes, so we're doing this like zombie camp. Nobody really wants to be here. And then they're like killing it.
Yeah, yeah yeah.
After doing that and nailing the makeup, kis like, they're feeling pretty good. And then all of a sudden, the hockey team comes up to Zimeo and Kofski and says the rant of the school is over, so they get Slushy and Karofski again. Upset quits the glee club, but Beast tells them if he quits glee club, he's off the team, so he quits and buddies, which is like a big Meanwhile, remember Kurt, Kurt is over at Dalton.
Does they do bills Bills Bills by Dussy's child of course, and Mercedes and Rachel visit Blaine Kurt and tell them about what's going at the school, and then a good point. It's one of those things the show telling on itself. Kurt's like, why hasn't Finn told me about any of this. I mean, we live together, bring him a glass of milk every night, just in hopes that we'll have a little lady chat.
He's like warm milk.
But Blaine has the smart idea. It tells him that the team only needs four more guys because high school regulations lets the team play with a couple guys short.
So they try to get people to sign up for the football team, and when they get nobody, the girls decide that they're going to take it into their own hands because the ladies always get things done.
Don't seem a man to do a lady's job.
That's right.
Send Kevin, definitely, don't send me.
We do. We end up on the football team. This is one of my favorite scenes that we ever shot, Ugley. Even though it was a night shoot, it was really fun. I forgot that this was this episode.
It was so cute, all of you in those football uniforms. Leah being insane was the best thing. You guys, who's Judy. I wish you were on the football team more because in any comedic goal.
We had a lot of fun. Shooting that Brad was really fun. I remember that's.
When I was sick. I was not present.
Oh and we were sleeping, that's right. So I looked down at your wheelchair and it wasn't you no.
See pictures of me on the football field.
But it was not important. Vin and Salchak got a trailer during this whole thing. And for some reason, I don't know why we didn't get a trailer, or maybe they were closer it. Brad chose closer to the it was to the football field, and so he never used it. And he never He's just not that kind of guy where he's going to use this. And so he let all of us sit in there and stay warm and like fall asleep.
They also have like the fancy trailer.
He did have the new one with like a fire like a fake fireplace and like it was.
It was like all modern looking.
It's cute anyway. The football team, So the girls joined the football team and the planet that they're not gonna play, they're just gonna drop to the ground when the play, when the ball is in play. And it was really fun. It was really fun to shoot. It was fun to be in the football. Yeah, we had a really good time. It's just something completely different than what we were doing before. So we thought it was really funny.
And then Tina, Tina sees the ball and she runs, She gets the ball and she runs and somebody takes her down.
You got got?
I got got. That wasn't me though I had just done double, a wonderful sun double. I wanted to do it, but they and then everybody's really upset because they're like, gosh, what are we doing? You see mister Shu's face and Finn and everybody's like, wow, thank god, she's okay, But also, what are we doing here? He tells Sandy quarterback. Finn's gonna go and Puck's gonna go, and they're gonna go recruit their friends.
How long is this football game? Like, how do they have time?
You stay playing? I'll be back.
Yeah, and with what people? Because the girls are out this way, two other players are out. I don't know what's happening.
Right, I don't know. And and so Puck goes and gets the football guys. And I really like the scene. Very good, Mark selling, very good.
It was good, and it's also nice this whole bit about we sort of we glossed over it earlier. But Finn and Puck, you know, having a truce for the sake of the football team and being leaders and winning this championship, and so they're dividing. Hunker here is.
Quite good, yes, very good, and he gets everybody to join the team again except for cross E who's still out.
And then Ben gets the cheerleaders. The cheerleaders are like boarding the bus and they are swayed to come perform. And then when we do that perform, well, well, well.
This number is great.
It's really good. I wish it really longer.
Right, it was really fun. Everybody is a plus plus giving it.
I mean, wasn't it one of the coolest things when that field was filled with that's that smoke, that fog, and you have thriller blasting and we're in all this stuff and we're with so many dancers. It just felt like a really, really big music video. Obviously, we're shooting music videos almost every day basically.
Like real music video.
Yeah, do you remember I don't know who told me this that, hopefully it's correct, but I believe that to use thriller Rod Timperton, who wrote it and produced it, charged us a quarter of a million dollars. I think it costs two hudred fifty thousand dollars just for this one song. You know.
I said that to David last night. I said, this is a really expensive episode, and I bet you Thriller is part of very a very big part of that.
Yes, I believe that is the most we ever paid for a song. And he also wanted it to go to charity, so I didn't even think he took the money. I think the money went straight to a charity. Well try then, yeah, which was great. It's like, get your money. And then also this is a they had to convince them to do a mashup of it, but I thought this mashup was great. And Nya is singing her face off when I got a.
Roll that is high, very high. We also glossed over, maybe not even gloss we painted over. She's not there, right, let's go back to that after Nya's never sounded better, You've never sounded better even sick. Very good, very very good. And also you guys just sing Thriller on the Super Bowl episode. Crazy.
I was so happy. I was like, it does not get any better than this, Like this is peaking life. Yes, I I you know. I was excited for my friends and family to see a lot of the numbers we did, but this I knew everyone was going to see wild. Yeah.
Very cool, very very cool.
I know I keep saying that, but it is. It's a hard thing to comprehend or to not think about when you're doing everything in this episode, because we had sort of gotten used to I'm doing this thing now and it's going to be watched by I don't know, maybe seven to eight million people in three weeks when it airs, and this it was hard to escape of how many people are going to watch this, Like, it's going to be millions upon millions upon millions.
It's pretty crazy.
Yeah, So everything felt I don't know, I was just very aware of everything we were doing and how everything was going to be viewed.
We had a couple of night shoots for this episode. Yeah, we were in the football on the football field and the girls were playing the football. We had I think two nights of thriller, is that right at least? Yeah, and you had been in that makeup. That makeup took what four hours for you to get into that whole phase, so.
Total in and out.
Yeah, And then we were living together at the time, and I remember the day that Tyana got sick and it was tom Slidest and they were like, we're not shooting, it's too contagious. We got the call. We had stayed up and then slept. We tried to sleep in as much as possible, and then we're like walking out the door, and I think Kelly was with us, and somebody was with us. And I remember walking out the door and production calling and being like, you're not night shooting. Yeah, you were like, well.
It was like a snow day.
Yeah, it was really weird, Like, oh my god, and we really prepared for that night.
She s, yeah, and I was finally feeling better, Like the medicine had kicked in, and your car was stuck down there and your car was stuck down there and then lou Transpo had to bring it up.
Why was my car stuck down there?
Because I think we were so tired, I drove back with you or yeah, or maybe that's why Kelly was with us. Maybe we all drove back together, like we were yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. That's wow, good memory. I don't remember that at all. Also, Long Beach was a good hour from where we lived, so if we were wrapping at three or four am, my god, we were getting home at five, it was you'd hit traffic, well, you'd hit rush hours traffic.
Yeah, I remember that. And then you had to get out of all that makeup and hair, Like my hair was teased all the way up to the ceiling, and I remember taking like and I was like, do I nap like this? Do I go to sleep like this? Or do I wash it out first? And I was like, I should wash this out first, so then you're not sleeping for hours.
Anyway, that crew, like, I don't know how the makeup had to the rest of the crew could wrap and we're still getting our like prosthetics off and stuff, but makeup and hair, the hair and makeup had to be there too with us wipe us down.
They're the first ones there getting this ready, last ones out. Yep. It's amazing. And they had a we had a lot of makeup team for that sure, a lot of people, a lot of FX.
A lot of our friends dancing with us.
Yeah, it was really fun. It was really fun.
When I had to watch it a couple of times, I definitely hmmm. When Jackie are one of our producers, she was saying she watched it a couple of times too, because it was.
Just just a lot to look at.
Yeah, it's so good.
And then and Krofski joins in in the middle and he's dancing.
How could he resist?
Max was dancing. I was like, oh, Max and and Krofsky things, assuming that Kraftsy's going to join the gleek up after this, but he's like, I have zero interest.
And then Quinn kisses Finn, but only after Beast tells them to go out for the second half and all their makeup and they start moaning brains, they freak out the other team and they win the championship. How great is that?
It's very exciting.
And then that kiss and.
Then she kisses Quinn Finn Quinn Fin Quinn.
You'll get it, You'll get there one day, Dinna Queen kisses Fin w a mess these teens and their hormones, keep it in your pants.
It's very high school. It is all very high school.
Oh, it's only gonna get more messy from here. But that is basically that's it.
That's it. That is the super episode, the big the big episode.
An extra long episode for an extra big episode.
Tarty Takes Tarty Takes Tarty Takes Quin. Your moments oh jeez.
Well, I'm sure there's some in there, but I just felt so much joy watching this episode that I don't remember.
That's fair. There's nothing glaring, nothing, There's a lot of I appreciated the storylines in this episode a lot. The best answer move obviously thriller. Oh wait, head, she's not there though? Do you do you like she's not there? I love she's not there. I thought Corey did such a good job. I loved all the guys. They did such a good job. I liked the song. I think about this number a lot.
Really, mm hmmm. I don't love dance.
I love this number love love love anyway, it's just close.
For I agree with all those points. I think Corey was great. I think everyone was dancing sound but you don't really like the song irks me to my core and we were doing it and I don't.
Know why I watching this number.
It was fun to be with everyone. Though. Yes, I think best song and best dance move thriller. Mm hmm.
The best performance by a prop. I feel like the cannon.
Oh the cannon, yeah? Does do the press?
Definitely? Okay?
Then also my foot see Just for the record, I asked Aaron and I said this in our episode. I asked them to put as much prosthetics on me as possible, or as many prosthetics on me as possible, because do you regret it?
Yes?
I do think it looked great. They molded my entire face. I got an entire face plate basically, and it is what I asked for and it was very nice of them to give it to me. But oh we had I know when I was going to get sick. No would yeah, best line? Take it away?
Jenna, Wait, so you want us to play the first half change into some sequm bonds. I just wish we could play the clip so good.
It's so good, I would say. Also Kurt saying that he brings Fin a glass of warm milk every night so and hopes that they can have a little girl chat.
That's a good one too.
I would also say honorable mention for best performance by a prop would be the eighteen slushies.
Obviously, that's a good one. That's a good one. Before we get into TikTok, I just have to honor. Speaking of honorable mentions, Kevin, I don't know if you know that our friend William is working on a new podcast that I feel like all of our listeners would.
Lat we were talking about this.
Yeah. So there's a new podcast called Breakthrough and it's the very first singing competition podcast audio only like some new singer songwriters who are being judged by some of the best artists in our biz, Sarah Brellis and Kelly Rowland. And there's these violence now and you can go listen to a whole thing. It's called Breakthrough. But I number one. I'm so happy for our friend Will, who is a big supporter of our show and us throughout the year.
It was the best. And then also like a Glee fan for a long time.
Basically like it feels like all of our listeners love this, so I just wanted to give an honorable mention.
There, go give it a listen. It's called Breakthrough. Like also a singing competition show my dream? Can Will? Can I be a judge next season?
I know it was like what the hell?
Will?
But they're much more famous than us, So that's true.
What our powers combined, maybe we can equal like one mentor or something.
Like a half and a half. Yeah, okay, great.
