Alaska is a harsh, inhospitable land to those unfamiliar with it, and it is for this reason that it took Europeans so long to explore it, much less colonize it. As with many things in human society, the discovery of gold in Juneau brought people to that area, making it a town and eventually the state capital. Here is its incredible story.
