¶ Intro / Opening
So we need to get to okay. So I'll do the 10 simple questions.
And then maybe you could do what pet
should I get? Okay. And then
I'll do the fun dog quiz. And then you can be pet personality.
Okay, sounds good. Okay. All right. We're recording. Oh, welcome, welcome. My name is Carol.
I'm Gracie. Welcome
to the Maury marks podcast. We are back with another episode and today we are going to talk about pets. Animals. We are animal lovers. But first before we get there, do you want to talk about anything else you want? How about your wheat? You want to talk about what you're listening to?
Yeah. So the last time we spoke was the astrology. Yes.
¶ Catching Up On Our Week
podcast. That was fun. I keep thinking about astrology. And how much it rules my world. Not much is going on. work. And then home and then work. And then home. Last weekend. You guys went to tuna? Yes, we did. Did you have fun?
Yep. And guess what Kerry's going again? This week by himself. He's gonna he's gonna leave Monday afternoon right after work and then come back Tuesday.
Wow. Does he just sit in the gamble?
He plays cards.
I figured he did.
No, it'll go like, when we go together. We'll leave on a Saturday and like, we'll get there Saturday afternoon. We just walk around, have fun. We'll go eat. We'll play some slots. That's my fun. Okay, then we'll go back upstairs, you know, whatever. And then on Sunday, he goes down by himself. I've stayed in the hotel room the whole time until we eat. We're gonna have breakfast or something. And then I go up and I like do podcasting, blogging, whatever. Just relax and he goes
down. He plays cards all day. Now he won't sit at one table. He'll get up, move around. He'll go. There's two casinos that are kind of connected to he'll go back. He'll go back. That's a cat. Yeah, he'll go back and forth. We've been putting her outside too. Anyway, we'll go he'll go back and forth. And then they have a Starbucks there. So he'll get up till about two o'clock. He'll go over there and have given myself a cup of coffee and sit in the news watch people. But yeah, he
has a good time. That's good. That's good.
Let's see if we can listen to the cat.
She probably sees a bird.
That's so funny. Since our topic is about I know we have Jelly Bean here.
Did you get all caught up? caught up with everything. Thank you for getting coffee. She got coffee on the way over here for us too. I love the little Starbucks. Order app. Oh my gosh, I'm addicted to it now.
I love any kind of fast food restaurant.
Oh, no, it has spoiled me. Yeah.
I think it's I feel like it's easier on the workers to because maybe they're not having to do face to face
try to stress out Yeah. Bo like, on all the time. Yeah.
So what else has gone on my week?
Do you feel at work
I did. Or Wednesday, just not watching where I was going and I rolled my ankle and then my knee caught my fall and it hurt the first day. Thursday. It was a little sore. But then by Friday, it was okay. It's just scabbed over when I was wearing jeans. I
really I know you really fell hard. Yeah.
But the thing spectacular.
Yeah. Right in front of everybody to where they saw. So
you know how when I don't know how it is on your shift. But when everybody leaves. It's everybody in mass x. Yes.
mass exodus. Well, I
since I was on the phone, I wanted to wait till everybody got out of the way. So I was kind of one of the last ones to leave out the building. Oh, this was at lunchtime. Yeah.
Oh, so nobody was inside watching you.
So there were a couple people that were inside.
I say I thought it was just a regular. You went outside did whatever. No.
One person did see me from the inside? No, he asked if I was okay. But I cried like a stupid baby.
I told you
why you cry. And you are right.
And she's under stressed, built up stress.
But I was angry too. Because during lunch I just got into this routine of walking around the building and walking at least a mile and a half to two miles every day. Yeah. And I had brought my tennis shoes
and I was on the way to go change my shoes.
So I was really mad about that, because that would delay me doing my workout. But I am going to start I'm on the fence about going back to a gym because you do have to wear masks. Yeah, you are around people. And if I can limit that exposure, I do it at all costs, but I just can't do it at my apartment gym. It's so small and they close that weird time, you know? So I figured I could just take the best of my free time right now and just do it at work.
Yeah, that's, I mean, that's a good little area to walk around.
And we have quite a lot of people that knew.
Anyway, what
are you listening to? We're both listening to
¶ Podcasts We Are Listening To
podcasts.
Oh my gosh, yes. So I'm on a. I'm on a kick with right now. I'm listening to business wars. I've listened to Estee Lauder versus L'Oreal I've listened to Macy's versus gimble. I've listened to who's the other one? I said, McDonald's versus that's what I'm listening to now. Okay. But I was Listen, there was another one I can't remember but Starbucks and don't start. That's it Starbucks and Dunkin I love listening to these stories, how they got started, the history of it all is just
fascinating to me. I love it
right now. I'm listening to how SpaceX versus Blue Origin and how they got started.
I never heard of Blue Origin. I didn't either.
And I knew of SpaceX
and I didn't know that Elon Musk had started PayPal, me either. He was
a co founder of PayPal, he got fired from PayPal, but he still kept shares. And he was able to get money when they sold PayPal to eBay. So he was a millionaire at this point, he wanted to put people on Mars. And then I didn't know what Blue Origin was. And I was like, well, maybe it's an underground thing.
No, it's Jeff Bezos of Amazon. He owns Blue Origin. Okay, I had no idea all these billionaire
billionaire people in the space. Well, here's why
word. I heard this on a radio. It was probably one of my podcasts, I listened to pat unleashed or Glenn Beck. They talked about how these billionaires are the only ones that are putting satellites up in space wars right now.
Yeah, NASA. Now this was back in what 2000, early 2000s. When all this happened, I didn't know that Elon Musk went back that far to the 2000 while he was just 2010. Right. But it's interesting to listen to how these people started. And I'm at the part where Elon Musk is flopping right now,
Jeff Bezos is succeeding. Right. Okay. But it's interesting. Yeah, I love him. And there's they have so much more on there. And it's by the media called wondery.
Which they have another series called Dr. Death.
Oh my gosh, y'all. Oh,
I find it interesting. But it also angers me when I listen to these doctors taking advantage of their power. Yeah,
yeah. I was more horrified and terrified of listening to what went on just I guess I'm naive. Still at 54 years old. I want to believe the best that I've ever buddy. I think you know, everybody's doing what they're supposed to be doing. Yeah. So when I hear something like this, it's blows my mind
very, very hard to grasp
is Dr. Dutch was the first one I listened to the neurosurgeon. And then the other one is the cancer guy, Dr. fata. And then I had a Google and look up to him look like me, too. Oh, wow.
And it's funny because you can't tell that they're evil. I know. Anyway, Dr. Ducks,
I want to look a certain way. But Dr.
fata looks like a regular Hmm. You know, God actually looks like a physician that is trying to help you. Right? He has that caring looking face. And then I was listening. I got to the part where that everybody was saying something At his trial and how he just didn't say a word. He didn't express anything. He didn't even look at the people's families. I'm like, this guy's cold hearted. Yes. Very much though. He
was money hungry. He was. He's only 50. Yeah. All right. Anyway, pets, pets pet on with the regular topic we were supposed to talk about.
So we wanted to talk about our childhood pets. And
¶ Our Childhood Pets
the pets we have now right? And then we're gonna do some quizzes. Yes. So what dogs and pets Did you have when you grew up?
The very first pet I ever remember having an I don't know if we're allowed to call him this anymore. I'll just call it black and tan dog. We call them something else when I was growing up. And I don't know. For some reason. I think it's derogatory now, but I don't. I don't know what type of dog was it? I don't know. Oh, it was a black and tan dog. No, I don't. He may have made like a Rottweiler perhaps. But we call him macoun. Dog. hunting dog.
Yeah, yeah. But I don't know if they appropriate now.
I don't think so. They call them something else.
He's not a pointer. He was a big dog. But he had like tan Paul's. But his everything else was black. His name was Pete. He was a good dog. q p does very first dog. I remember I remember. I was little like five, probably maybe maybe a little, maybe a little older. But we had a family member over my mother's brother's wife and her child came over, was visiting. And Michelle was the little girl's name and she was younger than me. She was crawling and she
crawled over to pizza bowl. And she was I guess gonna play with it. And my mom kind of skipped down to like, get her away from it. And Pete kind of got mad at my mom. Because I guess he thought he was using a dog to I guess she gives Pete thought my mom was going to go down and hurt the baby. And all he did was grab her pant leg. But anyway, yeah, it's Then we had red, which was an Irish setter. Oh my god that was wild. He got he untamed. He got loose all the time. And he just ran and ran
and ran. And did he always come back? Yeah, we you know, I have to get on my bike and try to go hunting down and not that I could ever catch him but now with this in Florida, Ohio,
Ohio, okay. Yeah, he just in you know where I live. There wasn't a lot of housing. Oh, sure. It was this little house
that we pass by and trailer minutes. Yeah. Is it still there?
It's there. But oh my gosh, is it nobody did it? Yeah. It looks terrible. Yeah. Anyway,
so they had read, we had read and then that's all
the dogs are I remember
growing up, and then you just didn't have a dog? Like, no,
no, no. And I moved to Google with my dad in Florida. And then we had this is why I used to call jack rosebud, Buttercup sweet pea. Because those were the dogs we had when in Florida. My mom, my stepmom and my dad had their little dogs. They had rosebud. They had Sweet Pea, and they had Buttercup. What kind of dogs were that? They were all mutts. They were they were small dogs. They were either like a mix between like what jack was like a half twala half poodle so they
were small dog. That's you. You hear me call
jack of sweet rosebud? Buttercup, sweetie. Yes. That's why I was like, What is she doing?
And then of course we have we had jack here with us. Yeah, bless if you want to talk about how we got jack.
Yeah. So it was what I was in freshman year of high
¶ The Story of Jack
school. So 1415 and I was just wanting to dog we were wanting to pet. We didn't have
any news before that one. I think No, I was in high school. No. But school but the year was before 2014 when you graduate? I was 14. Oh, you are 14. Okay. I thought you made 2014 on the No, we had him before that. No, no.
Yeah, I was about 14 so what it would have been 2008 2009
it was 2000 we went on our honeymoon. 2008. So it must be we have a man. No. Okay.
So 2009 I had been wanting we were searching for dogs. And I had a girl at school where she her family had an extra dog and they just couldn't take on the extra dog. And she was asking around and I was like, Well, what kind is is in the picture. How old are they like I need information. She sent me stuff and I showed you and carry and it was just this mad at a long haired dog.
A little dog have poodle have to have poodle have shinzou so he had real there. Yes. And
before that we'd actually got this one dog over here. JACK Russell. Was it a job? Yes. Okay, it was I just remember it being like it was cute, but it was wild. Yeah. So we took it very high maintenance in the back patio. And he was just
so curious, like, no. So yeah, they it was through an adoption agency. We only had him for like the weekend. Yes, to see if it was a bit. So it was
no. So then I contacted my friend Meredith. And she had this dog and they were like, well, we'll bring him over and see how he is. And we met him out friend in the front yard and jack was very skittish and didn't move a whole lot. And because His hair was a Matta and so
very subdued. I think
we just ended up just taking him in. And then the next day Carrie called this groomer. Right? And I mean completely we
could not we tried to comb it out. We just couldn't Oh, yeah, no, and
we didn't want to hurt him, right.
JACK was already what he didn't like carry a whole lot. He wouldn't have anything to carry for that birthday or to stay with me and he wouldn't walk on a leash. No. He just wanted to lay on my lap. That's all he wanted to do. Yeah, but then a couple days later we got the groomer over here
and shaved him and gave him a haircut trim his nails didn't shave him.
Well they are they did I took all the hair off. Yeah.
Robin is the lady though.
It's just she own she owns it and it's going to the dogs dogs and cats the go mobile groomer
yeah came over shaped Jad gave him a whole new makeover and he was he was so much better he came to life did he was able to move around yes
and stuff. He was not miserable anymore. And then he became Karis dog. Yep. became Karis, little buddy he did for years and years and years. Then he got sick. We had to put him down. He was so tore us up especially Kerry told me up to carry us Oh, he was bald. I've never seen the man cry. He was ballsy enough. He was bawling.
I have never seen him a grown man. He
was bawling like, oh my gosh.
But while we had jack, we had jack, maybe two years before we got Jill. And how did you get Joe?
Okay? You know, Camden's Miss Beth? Beth Yeah, they had a cat that had kittens, and it was when jack needs to
¶ The Story of Jill
play me. You know, at the time we were working, you know, sometimes they leave him here by himself. And it's like, oh, he needs a playmate. So let's get a cat. And so they had a cat. And they had the cat had kittens, and I'm like, well, we'll get one of them. And so we went over there and got the cat brought home.
Who was Wait, was it you?
I think it'd be new. Did we go I think you just came out with the cat. Okay, I must have just went over there and got it and came home. But I you know, once I got home and backup, jack had killed his first chipmunk on the back of the back porch like a week few weeks before. He You know, he saw a chipmunk on the back porch. Gary let him out. And jack caught the chipmunk and I was not here at the time. Was this his only chicken he'd ever kill? Yes. The first one. I think that was his first one.
Okay. I don't know if he got another one after that or not. But he would chase a bunch of melanin. Yeah. But anyway, so I brought the cat home the kitten and you realize and I realized, oh my gosh, this cat is smaller than I thought. This kitten was smaller than I thought it was compared to jack and I thought oh, Jack's gonna think it's a chipmunk and kill it. But he did not know that Jill was so cute that she was so tiny. She got underneath a TV stand. Hi,
Tony. She got behind the couch. Oh, yeah.
But But he took her in, like one of his own. Like he like he thought she was a puppy. Oh, yeah. And she grew up thinking she was a dog. Absolutely.
Jill, when we got her she basically stayed upstairs in my room. Yeah, most the time. And she was just I had the little cat scratch post up there. And she would just curl up in it. I have pictures on Facebook. I'm gonna go back to like 10 years of my Facebook and chilling pictures.
But then when you moved out, she came down here and start living with us. And now she's Carrie. And Carrie can't stay in cats. No, he does not like cats. Oh, what's that man? But he'll let Jubal go they sit on his lap. And he's he's the only one that I'm really paying attention because I can't because I'm allergic to cats. Cat what anyway, cuz I love Oh,
yeah. So. But before we got jack and jill and we were living here we were living at the old house. Oh had a plethora of animals on the old house. Yeah, let's
just talk about George. We have a plethora we just had. Oh, yeah, we
did because we have a vaccine. Yeah,
¶ The Story of George
I remember that was really the first pet. Yeah, it was a Siamese cat. George was our first pet. Okay. Yes. George the boxer because we had him before you were born. You're right. So we had Georgian was Maxine around when George was no, no. Okay. So George, and we had Maxine, and then we had like,
really? Maxine, do we move to the house?
And then we have rotation of other dogs. Yeah, but George, George George. George. George. George. George.
Yeah, George he put Georgie Orci putting in pi.
Yeah, actually just got a bunch of pictures on my phone from looking at old family photos and just show them to mom and I forgot how has how big he was. And George was a boxer. Yes. He brown boxer.
He was a good dog. He
was it.
Let me tell you a story about that, too. I'm sure I've told you this before. We got him. I think I was pregnant with you. We got him as a puppy. We lived in an apartment at the time. And I don't know why we got a dog living in an apartment. We should have never done it. But we did. The dog was very active.
boxers usually are very act like a puppy puppy. Yes,
he was. He was jumping all over the furniture. You know, I mean, he was active, very active. I won't say wild but he was active. And I thought oh no. When I have Gracie. We're gonna have to get rid of George because he's wild. He's, he's not gonna calm down. I mean, I'm, I'm afraid because he would jump up on the bed. And so I remember when I brought you home to the hospital. I laid you down on the we walked in, right? Did you let him sniff we walked in and I thought, okay, if this dog
jumps over the bed, he's gone. I can't have it. I can't do it and brand new mom with a brand new baby. I'm not having anything that's gonna harm my child. So I laid you down on the bed. And he came over he was older at the time. I mean, he had grown out of a puppy thing. And he came over to the bed and all he did was he laid his head on the bed next to you. He didn't jump on the bed at all which he is personality changed instantly when I brought you through that door, isn't that funny? he
calmed down like, instantly. He knew he must have. And then when when we moved to the house, you know when you got to crawl in and everything, you, you, you you played with that dog hard you would go over wall, you'd flop down on him. You'd like flop down, sit on him. Yeah. And he would just, he would, he wouldn't do anything. I remember that. And you would crawl over to him. And he would be laying there with his paws out. And when you got closer to him, he would tuck his paws in. Oh, so
he wouldn't scratch you. Oh, so you know,
I was trying to find a picture just a minute ago of me. I was must have been maybe three, two or three. It looks like in the picture. And it's me standing eye level with George and I'm hugging his neck but we're the same high Yeah, that was it that total you know media three so just shows you how big toy Yes, Yep. Yep.
I was a good dog. Yeah.
And now I have two dogs of my own.
¶ Gracie's Babies; Ottis & Onyx
Yes. odus. There they are like little people. They are a little people.
We have Otis he's the older one. He's He's turning five this year. Dylan and I got him when we moved into our first apartment and what kind of dogs are they? That so they're both Australian Shepherd blue heeler mixes. Okay. Otis shows more of a blue heeler because of his patterns in his fur, but he also has the build of a Australian shepherd. He's got the tail. He's got fluffy hair. Definitely a perfect mix. We It was funny because Dylan and I want a dog
so so so dang bad. And we'd gone to go into the cats and dogs down here by the PetSmart. And we wanted this German Shepherd. It was a girl. She was six months old. She was very tame, very calm. Probably. She was probably scared because of the commotion. And they were like, Okay, well, do you live in a house? And we were like, no. So we left. I was super bummed out. Dylan was like, look on Craigslist. Just look and I'm like, I don't want to look on
Craigslist serial
killer website. Yeah, you had raised me to think that. So I was looking and looking and looking and I came across this ad for blue heeler puppies, Australian Shepherd blue heeler puppies out in the middle of nowhere. Well, we went and drove down there contacted the man. It was a man and a wife. Very, very nice people. out in the middle of nowhere. big huge house.
Their house was so huge. Big farm, big land well, and this guy, he met us out out front and the porch and the wife was sitting on her porch rocking her little chair. And he brought out the two puppies. He said I got to lift their brothers. He was trying to get us a dog. Right. And we were like, We can only commit to one right now. And Dylan's like Alright, we'll pick one out grace. And he was like, well, I picked Otis out because he had the most brown on his face. And we went home and I was
obsessed with this dog. I don't by my side. I always held you still are obsessed. Oh, you always held him like a little baby. Yeah, he was so cuddly. Such a cuddly dog. He still is. And then we had gotten to our other apartment. This was about February of 2019. And we've had odors for a long time. He was already like three years old at this time. And I was like I want another dog. We have a little bit bigger apartment than we did.
He needs to take with both the dog park. Oh, oh yeah, we're
very active with Otis. And I was like, I just want another dog so bad. And we did the same thing. Did you go back to the same people? No, no, we went on Craigslist. Oh, gosh. Okay. And contacted this man who lived I think he was just outside of he wasn't that far away as the first one. But we went and pulled up to this house again in the middle of nowhere. big huge house. He apparently is the department manager of the fire department here in
Huntsville. So I trusted him I was like all right, you you know Huntsville, so Okay. big huge house. I mean Mansion House. And he took us out to the barn where he had horses. pigs. Wow. He had the he had the parents on site the
voters with you know,
we didn't but we told him we had we already had this dog. He showed us the mom and dad of onyx, and very, very pretty dogs. Mum was a pure Australian shepherd and one was a pure blue healer.
Oh,
we went out to the pin where he was keeping all the puppies and there was maybe like six of them. And I really, really, really, really wanted the white one. Dylan's like no ODIs has white hair. He's already getting white hair all over the place. Let's get just a black dog show hairs.
So Dylan picked up on it.
Okay, even though I wanted the other one, but he picked out on it. And you know, the bond that jack can carry? That's the same bond that Dylan and Lance have. That's great in
that crazy how humans and pets can bond certain ones can bond. Yeah.
So onyx is very much a puppy. He just turned two in December. But he is just the precious precious poo. He doesn't have a tail. He doesn't know he squeals but out of curiosity supposed to have tails. Um,
so did the did the breeder.
I didn't ask because we honestly didn't even notice it. I thought maybe he would grow into his tail. His tail would grow. I'm assuming the way I feel onyx is not that doesn't feel like it was
perfectly.
I feel like he was born that way. Okay. But yeah, onyx was so fluffy to he was a fluff ball. So I was like, Oh, great. He's gonna have long hair longer than ODIs is. No, His hair is very thin and fine. And he doesn't have a thick coat like Otis Otis has very much of an undercoat. onyx is very thin. And yeah, they're interested in the cutest things in the whole for overson. onyx.
I get it. They need their own. They need their own Instagram account.
They do. They do.
I make them take pictures. I guess you do. But they are my baby. Right? You want to do the quizzes? Oh, yeah. What were you gonna say something? I
was gonna say those dogs live a long time. So
I got Oh, do they? Oh, yeah, they
live like 1516 years. All right. So yeah, you've picked out four different quizzes.
we're each going to take two. Okay.
¶ Fun Pet Quizzes
So the first one I'm going to take its answer 10 simple questions to reveal what kind of dog you'd be now. Do you want to ask me the questions? All right.

All right. Would you rather go to sleep in the dark? Or with a nightlight in the dark? Are you more low energy or high energy?
It varies day to day. I think I'm lower. Yeah, very low energy.
Not that that's bad. No, absolutely. You're calm. Yeah. Would you rather eat out or cook at home? Right now? We've
been cooking at home so I'm into that.

No, but I want to find out what you okay. Would you rather go for a job or chill and watch a movie chill

Oh,
you're a Chihuahua.
Oh, my God. Looks like you'd be a Chihuahua. You may seem quiet and soft on the outside, but you actually have a huge personality. Once you're comfortable around people. You let your wild side out.
And it's true. Very accurate. Yes. Very accurate. Very accurate.
All right, now this one's for you. And it's what pitch should I get? Okay, and
this is another quiz.
Okay. Oh, let me go back and retrace my steps. The first quiz we took was off buzzfeed.com. Yeah. And our second quiz is on all the tests.com. Alright, so 10 questions? Okay. What are you looking for in a pet? A lifelong companion, a challenge. something odd that I can show off, something to keep me occupied, or a pet to cuddle with and keep me company?
It's either lifelong companion or cuddle. I will say lifelong companion. Okay.
Next question. How much money can you spend every month? $35 25 100 plus 150? Plus, or 75?
Do the least amount? 25? Yeah. Is it start off at 3530? But we'll do 25.
You didn't say 30? I just say 3035?
Let's do that one. Okay.
How committed Will you be to your pet? I can take it out every day. I can interact with it every few days. I can let it roam the house. It will be by my side the whole time I'm home. Or I can play with it more than once a day.
