Speaker 1

You're welcome. Thanks for having me. It's exciting. Especially get to , since I get to see you, I've never zoomed or anything before, so we'll see how it goes.

Speaker 2

Me either . This is my first time too.

Speaker 1

Well,

Speaker 2

Good . So do you wanna introduce yourself? Do you wanna , should I, I didn't mean I didn't really prepare anything.

Speaker 1

yeah . Okay . Well I'm Holly, Annette Collins and I am the host little SIS . Um , by 10 years. We're 10 years between us. I live in Ohio.

Speaker 2

Three girls ,

Speaker 1

Three kids. Yes. Three daughters. All of them

Speaker 2

After y'all are like the Kardashians.

Speaker 1

I've got three daughters. They three years apart. My oldest ones let's see. 20, 24 , wait , no 20, 23, 27 . See her they're 26 they're 26 20 . See her just turned 27 .

Speaker 2

Okay . Cause Gracie's getting ready to turn 27 . Yeah's my oldest.

Speaker 1

Okay. So then see her's 26 . Okay. Like she was born in 96.

Speaker 2

Okay. Grace . She born in 95 .

Speaker 1

Okay. And then shy was born in 99 . Kylie was born in 2001 to

Speaker 2

Man they're grown. They're grown.

Speaker 1

And I'm a mean a four year old .

Speaker 2

Yes.

Speaker 1

Fabulous. She is. She's fabulous. But yeah. So I'm a Mimi at 40. I was a Mimi at 40 43 42 . 41 . Yeah. So I had my kids young, but now I get to be, keep up with the grand baby .

Speaker 2

That's right. That's right.

Speaker 1

Yeah . And so my youngest is getting ready to get married. Oldest is daughter's already married. They live in Cincinnati, Ohio and they're both educators and they're in the home buying process right now. And let's see Kylie , uh , works where I work and she's getting ready to get married and then Cheyenne's just dating .

Speaker 2

She's what?

Speaker 1

Just dating.

Speaker 2

Oh, okay.

Speaker 1

The middle one.

Speaker 2

Sorry for the background noise everyone. It's okay. That's that's life. Yeah's real life here. Oh , okay. So anyway, we are gonna talk about, since I've rebranded the podcast to remarkable beauty and I thought I would something different. I'm gonna bring you beauty news and what's happening in the world.

And like this next episode I'm gonna have coming up is how, how the beauty industry is recovering from the pandemic and then what to expect in the future, like with advanced technology and stuff like that. But I know you and I have want , well, I've wanted you to talk about this company that you, that you turned me onto called Abel .

Speaker 1

Yes. Um, Abel's a company I come across , um, listening through podcasts. I listened to the Rachel Hallis podcast years ago and uh, lover hater, like so of her stuff is really good. Some of her stuff, it's it it's, you know, I , I get , um, I've learned a lot about a lot of different cuz she used to focus on , um, small businesses, women owned businesses, entrepreneurship, things like that.

And so she would interview these other entrepreneurs and you know, get their , you know, their stories and products and stuff out there. And so she would always have like links to the company or discount code as most podcast places do. And I liked their story because they were like , um, primarily they were a , a women employed company.

The founder is, is a male and he , um , employed, like they found these artesians and from like they work with some other countries and they pay these women's a livable wage versus pennies. And they also, another thing that they do is they all , they actually publish what they pay. So whereas like some of these brains that you see, like they're actually getting this stuff made for , like you hear about the sweat shops and stuff like that. And they're paying pennies for this stuff.

They're bringing it over here and selling it for big dollar prices. Yeah . They actually show what they pay their employees. So they, and

Speaker 2

Don't they show don't they also show in high. I like the employees as well.

Speaker 1

Yeah. And they actually , uh , they have, so they, they partner the way I understand it is like they, like, they have some like , um , artesians in Brazil , um, Oaxaca, Mexico, like just different places. Yeah. And then N have a brick and mortar store in Nashville and a lot. And it's primary women ran and women employed and like they hand make all the jewelry and all that stuff right there in Nashville, they have clothing , accessories, they have shoes, they have

Speaker 2

Leather. Do they do the leathers in Nashville?

Speaker 1

No. They're usually like Brazil,

Speaker 2

Mexico .

Speaker 1

Like they, they Ty it typically says where it, where it's

Speaker 2

Okay from .

Speaker 1

So the first piece that like, so I listened to the podcast and I was like, oh , I'll check it out. And you know, she had promoted a couple items and that she personally used. And so , um, like, well, I'll check it out cuz you know, I love leather stuff and I mean, it's not vegan leather. It's actual real leather, but um, nice

Speaker 2

Leather. It's really

Speaker 1

Bad . Yeah . And it leathers lifetime mm-hmm and I like the simplicity of it . Mm-hmm and they also anything that it's handmade and everything that they make is guaranteed for. So it's not like a 30 day return or 60 day return. If you have a bag for 10 years and a strap breaks, I assume as long as they're in business and I don't think they have any plans of going out of business, you can send that back. They will repair it or they'll replace it.

Wow. And with the clothing, like I, this is one of my favorite, this jacket, it's the Merly That they sell

Speaker 2

Uhhuh . It's

Speaker 1

Like the softest denim. And it's got just like a little bit of cute distressing on it or whatever. But like if one of these buttons comes off in three years or I, I can send it back and they'll fix it or they'll send me a new one. Yeah . So the pieces are, I mean their prices like this jacket, I think normal price is like it's price points at like 150, but I got it for cheaper cuz I got it like around Christmas, on a sale with the reward points, whatever. It's not too heavy. It's not too light.

It's got like, you know, the right amount of distressing on it. It's super soft. The pockets are great . Like it's just really good quality and I'll have it forever. Yeah. Um, the first thing that I got, I brought some of my pieces out here , um, was,

Speaker 2

Oh good.

Speaker 1

the wallet. My husband bought me. I started with one piece. He bought me the wallet. First husband bought me this it's called the Deborah wallet. Mm-hmm and it's just very, it's got a magnet.

Speaker 2

Mm-hmm ,

Speaker 1

It's just my cards are it, but it's just six card slots. And then it has pocket money, pocket, pocket. Uh, it doesn't have a change part in it that's but I usually empty my change outta my, but it's slim. And you want like, like it gets marks on it. I don't know if you can see from my thing, want that natural distressing on it . Right. And like it'll so this is my first piece.

Speaker 2

What color is that? Leather? Cause they come with different colors.

Speaker 1

Yes. This is the whiskey.

Speaker 2

Okay . This is , I have the, I have the lighter one. What is that called?

Speaker 1

Cog or

Speaker 2

Cognac?

Speaker 1

Yes. Cognac.

Speaker 2

That's it ? I have that . I , I like the lighter color, so I have those colors.

Speaker 1

So I have the whiskey in that, but like yeah, my husband bought this for me and then they always have their little logos. Yeah . And um, it's got like it's stamped in there. Yep . And this , when it says that it's, this was made in, this one was made in Ethiopia.

Speaker 2

Okay .

Speaker 1

This was handcrafted in Ethiopia. And then so I got the wallet and I was like, I really love it. So then I was like, I gotta get another piece. So then he got me the purse. So I got this to, so you have the same one? I

Speaker 2

Do. I have the same one different color and I , I got my little initials in , uh , on it.

Speaker 1

Yeah. See, when I got mine, they didn't do that. I've had mine for two and a half , two years now. Okay . But I I've carried it every single day. Like I've gotten so many compliments on it. It's just simple. It's just, it's got,

Speaker 2

Oh my ,

Speaker 1

I throw my keys in one, my phone in the other and it doesn't have a zipper or anything. It's just tote . It's got one pocket inside and I just,

Speaker 2

And it's unfinished on the inside.

Speaker 1

Yep . It's just, Yep . It does have like this pocket though.

Speaker 2

Sure. Yeah . Leather

Speaker 1

Pocket. But like if this ever comes apart or rips or a strap comes off, like they'll fix it, replace it, whatever. And like, I , It's a piece of like the more that you, the more age it gets, the better it gets.

Speaker 2

Yes.

Speaker 1

And so,

Speaker 2

And they are , they , um , I can attest, they are very well made . I think mine is gonna last forever and ever. Yeah.

Speaker 1

Oh and , and the normal price point for that one , um, I believe is 188 . Mm-hmm just run in there. But I mean, you know, you have people , I mean, and I don't knock like big name brand stuff, but you know, you , a lot of times you pay for a logo or a name or right. And that's all you're paying for and there's just made the same as anything else, but you're paying for that little logo.

Speaker 2

Yep .

Speaker 1

And at least I know where these pieces came from, that they were made by another woman. Like it helped somebody and not just made somebody a billionaire. So the next thing I did get, then I, you know, so I, I screwed roll through their site from time to time and pick up . And they , especially when they have a sale and then I got this for traveling and stuff, this is called

Speaker 2

The,

Speaker 1

This is the Morone backpack. They don't make this print anymore. But this was like a 200 and some dollar . I mean, it's a , it's a leather backpack,

Speaker 2

Nice

Speaker 1

Side . And it , you know, it's, it's the slim profile. So it's not a bulky one. And I thought, well, this would be good. Like your airport travel, whatever. Um, and it still had the brown in it, so it will match my wallet. But it's, it's, it's leather. It's not a snake, but it's a snake print. But I ended up getting this $80 for like 200 and something. Wow .

Speaker 2

Yeah . They have a , they have a rewards program that you can sign up for. So you earn points that you can use towards your next purchase.

Speaker 1

Yep . So this is a piece that I got and it's just like, you just kind of , you know, keep your eye on something. And then when it, like, they just discontinued that print and I snatched it up. And then the last thing I got, which this is what got you on it is just this little, this little wristlet , it's got a little zipper pocket in it. It's got place for two cards.

Speaker 2

I love it.

Speaker 1

It's just big enough for your phone to lip gloss. Like I was meeting so for dinner and I'm like, I don't wanna take my whole purse. And then she was like, oh , what do you have? and slid her across the table. And I'm like, oh, it's this company. And then she's like, I've got , and like instantly got on her phone, she's ordering, sorry, Carrie . But then I got her hooked and then she's like, well , I think I'll get a wallet.

Well, I think I'll get a and yeah , I just kinda , I had been eyeball on this. And again, this is an $85 piece typically, and it's got this cute little, little strap. You

Speaker 2

Can UN you can unwrap it

Speaker 1

Too. Yep . And then I just kept my eye on it and they had like a random sell that was like a weekend sale or whatever. And I got it for like half price. So I got it for 40 instead of 85, but I love their stuff. And like I plan on having it forever. So yep .

Speaker 2

Instead

Speaker 1

Of buying a new purse every six months, or you get tired of 'em , this is just, it matches everything. It goes with everything. I've got everything I need and I won , ever have pride again. So ,

Speaker 2

Yep . So I thank you for turning me onto that company. I love them and hopefully other I , their

Speaker 1

Little, they send a thing. It says we are moving fashion forward with your purchase. Um, able is a moving fashion forward by creating go-to wardrobe, staples that empower both the women who wear them and make them. And they have every worker able has ownership in the company, a hundred percent healthcare , which you don't hear of no full maternity coverage, infertility and adoption assistance and a flexible work schedule. I like them . Yep . And it's because of your purchase.

We are able, and that's where they're , I'm like , here's a little brochure, some of the women workers,

Speaker 2

But

Speaker 1

So

Speaker 2

Love it.

Speaker 1

It's a good place. Yes. Good things.

Speaker 2

Yeah . And their jewelry. I love every piece of their jewelry too, cuz it's also minimal, simple, simplistic. And I like that kind of look, we're probably gonna have to wrap this up soon, but you mentioned the clean beauty. That's another a thing that is gonna be on the podcast about what's here, going forward about how the consumer is now a more consci conscientious consumer.

And they wanna know the who, the what , the, where the, how mm-hmm of all it , you know, everything that's made and is it safe? Is it environmentally friendly? All that stuff. So that's and there's so many startup companies now I think like the big luxury, big brand names, even, even the, not so luxury brands, but the big brand names are kind of , I mean, they're gonna be around forever, but there's so many smaller, independent beauty companies coming out now. It's I mean, it's crazy.

Speaker 1

Oh yeah. If you get on the Alta website and you go under, they have an , they have an actual section now called conscious beauty and it's all a lot of it you've never heard of. And the , yes . I'm like , oh , Jessica Alba has that honest line. And she started because of her baby. So she has honest baby. And then she got into full makeup and stuff too. So you said

Speaker 2

Everybody's going clean and vegan and all that stuff. So, I mean, I guess it's a good thing. And of course the packaging people, you know, are like, the packing is so wasteful then . So they're trying to redo all of that. But I think it's a good thing. Glad you joined me. And I hope to gosh that we, I can figure out how to save this and upload it and everything and edit,

Speaker 1

Well , we'll get better at it . We'll do something else then .

Speaker 2

Well , I'm go . We're gonna leave . Okay . Right at lunchtime, we're gonna leave. Cause we're gonna go to work. Mm-hmm but we're gonna leave at lunch and then we're

Speaker 1

Gonna just you and grace . Yep . Yep . Okay . Say I , uh , we have Friday off that's our paid holiday of course, where it's good Friday. And then , um , yeah, so that it is Easter weekend, but um,

Speaker 2

Didn't even realize that ,

Speaker 1

But uh, yeah. So we're , Kylie's gonna , I think we're gonna do like , uh , we're gonna get pedicures Wednesday and we're gonna do like nails Friday and she's gonna , cause her rehearsal is actually Thursday because the guy that's marrying them , can't be there Friday. So they're gonna do run through it Thursday. And so Friday's just , uh , appointment day and setting up her venue and all that. So

Speaker 2

Okay .

Speaker 1

Show time on Saturday.

Speaker 2

All right . Well, I'll be there Thursday night and Friday to help with whatever I need to help with run around and get your stuff. So all

Speaker 1

Righty .

Speaker 2

All right . Well thanks for being here.

Speaker 1

No problem. Let know hot turns out.

Speaker 2

Okay. Love , love you .

Speaker 1

Love

Speaker 2

You .
