Speaker 1

Oh, my goodness. Hello. It is Friday night, almost 11. O'clock Eastern time in Ohio. Here. I am sitting in my hotel room. Finally, look, I left at 11 o'clock in the morning, Alabama time, central time. Okay. Which would've been 12 o'clock noon, Ohio time. And I had no problem getting to Nashville, but when I sat in Nashville for an extra two hours, almost at a near standstill, I was about to come unglued. Oh my gosh.

I was traveling by myself for one thing, but I eventually made it here after I got past Nashville. The traffic was fine. I made up some time, you know, a little bit and I rolled up in here, the hotel room about 9:00 PM, about two hours later than anticipated. Um , but that's okay. But now I'm showered, laying in the bed, had something to eat, unpacked decompressing. So meeting my sister tomorrow, we are gonna head up to Cincinnati. Um, yeah, I'm tired. So let me lay down and get some rest.

And so don't go anywhere. I'll be back in just a minute, cuz I'm , you know me, I'm putting all different clips together for an episode. So this'll be my Ohio trip. Stand by . Don't go anywhere morning. Good morning. It is Saturday, May 28th and I'm up having coffee in bed, then I need to get ready. My sister's coming to get me at eight o'clock it's now almost seven. So I need to go start moving, getting ready.

We are going I'm in Portmouth by the way, I think I've already told you that Portmouth Ohio, my hometown and we are going to go to Cincinnati to visit her daughter and her granddaughter. And I don't know what we're gonna do up there. We've you know, bounced a couple things around that we might do. We thought we might lay out by her resort pool at her apartment complex, but the temperature's not gonna get above 70. So that is probably not gonna happen.

So I don't know what we're gonna do, but it'll be fun regardless. Looking forward to it. There's gonna be a parade here this morning in Porsche with a little hometown parade Memorial day parade. I'm sure that's what it is. I wish we could stay and watch that. That'd be kind of fun, but that's okay. I know we need to get to Cincinnati. It's about a two hour drive and we're gonna spend the day up there. So come along with me and I will record while we're up there. All right , don't go anywhere.

Cincinnati's next. And I'm back. And it is 10 20 at night now. And I didn't even record anything while my sister and I were Cincinnati visiting her daughter and granddaughter and we rode around and walked around a, in Cincinnati and I just forgot to record anything, but I'm gonna see my sister again tomorrow. We're going over to Ashland , Kentucky to walk around. We may go see, we plan to go see the movie top gun Maverick.

Then we're probably gonna come back here to Portsmouth and go to our grandparents grave sites, put some flowers on there. Um, but yeah, I cannot believe I forgot to record anything. And we had a two hour trip, both ways I could have recorded something while we were in the car, but you know, I forgot. But one thing came out of it for sure is that I am going to start running again. My sister runs a lot and she does a lot of five Ks . She wants to do her first half marathon.

So I decided I would start training as well. And maybe she and I can do a first half marathon together. I think that'll be fun. I used to train for it a long, long, long time ago did to have half marathon, probably over 10 years ago. So I am not a runner at all, but I'm gonna start doing something, train for it. Anyway, I know I'm 55 years old. Hmm . And I'm not a runner. I'm already overweight. I'm outta shape. So I'm gonna try to follow the couch to 5k program in the beginning.

And I'm just gonna try to take my time in the beginning cuz I don't wanna over hurt myself. But anyway, oh, I also bought a plant in Cincinnati. My sister bought a plant. So it's called the string of Pearl plant. It's really pretty. It's really pretty. It's unusual. So we have sister plants now anyway, I'm tired. I'm gonna lay down here and get some sleep and I will be back tomorrow. So don't go anywhere, stand by a few more seconds and I'll be right back. All right .

We are back and it is Sunday, almost afternoon now and we are getting ready to go see top gun Maverick and I'm with my sister say hi. Hi. And we just got done doing a little shopping. She has gotten me into running again. So went and got some shoes and some shorts, but I'm nervous, but we'll be alright . and now we're gonna go see a movie, so right . So we'll be back though. We will be back and let you know our thoughts on Maverick. So stay tuned. Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 2

All righty. Bye.

Speaker 1

Okay . We're back. But we haven't seen the movies. The movie yet. I lied. We actually stopped. I got a Starbucks. So we're sitting outside. We are in Ashland, Kentucky. We are sitting outside of the Starbucks drinking our iced cold brew. And what'd you get at

Speaker 3

A iced white chocolate

Speaker 1

Mocha . Okay. So we're sitting out here drinking our drinks and then we're gonna go to the movie. We're gonna go to the two 40 viewing. Now, when does the last time you saw the original top gun? Holly?

Speaker 3

Oh, I would say probably 15 years ago. It's been a long time.

Speaker 1

Did you see it in the theater or on VHS or whatever?

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 1

VHS. Okay. You had to speak up a little bit. Oh yeah , probably. Uh , so I rewatched it recently. I got it on Netflix or whatever it was and watched it again. And so you're really not gonna miss anything. If you remember the gist of the movie, you'll be fine. for watching Maverick, but are you excited?

Speaker 3

Yeah, I am.

Speaker 1

Okay. What are you looking forward to the most?

Speaker 3

Is that the movie? Um, just seeing how Tom cruise looks now.

Speaker 1

Yeah. I'm looking forward to see how they're gonna incorporate Iceman in there. Cuz you know, Val Kilmore had had like throat cancer, so he I'm interested to see how they're gonna incorporate his character back in cuz they say he is in it, but I , and then the Tom cruise thing, people keep saying how marvelous and wonderful he looks like he hasn't aged. However I have heard and read that when they do movies like this, they will do like , uh , frame by frame and take out your wrinkles.

Yeah. So I'm sure they had some touchups cuz it's gonna um , digital and all that. So

Speaker 3

Is the girl still in there?

Speaker 1

No Kelly McGinness no she isn't . They did not ask her back or Meg Ryan back. They say because they didn't want the movie to look backwards too much. Okay. Now Tom does have a love interest in this current movie. I think played by Jennifer Connolly. I think that's her name .

So it'll be , it'll be interesting to see then after that we're gonna go out to eat and I guess then probably go to the graves site of my grandparents and then I'm going home early in the morning and you're gonna do the Murf challenge tomorrow, right?

Speaker 3

Yep . 9:00 AM. Where at P SKC.

Speaker 1

So Holly's gonna tell us a little bit about where it is located. She's doing the Murf challenge. What it's about and how the Portmouth kettlebell club is that

Speaker 3

P Portsmith Spartan Ketle

Speaker 1

Club. Portmouth Spartan kettlebell club. Are they still a CrossFit little legitimate cross ? Yep . CrossFit club and how they are going , how they do theirs. Cuz I think is pretty special. She was telling me about it yesterday. So I'm gonna let her tell you all about it.

Speaker 3

So in Portmouth we have a gym called P SKC it's Portmouth Spartan Keball club and the owner founder is a veteran and he does the he's a , they're a MERF sponsored location. So it's op it's free. It's open to the public. You don't have be a membership member to the gym. Okay. Hold

Speaker 1

On. What is mur

Speaker 3

Murf is a CrossFit wad named after , um, a Lieutenant that

Speaker 1

His , his name is his name is Murphy or Murphy or something

Speaker 3

Last name's Murphy, Murphy, something like that. Okay . And it's, it's a workout that he did like on the regular. And he, it was a it's the way that he did it was with a weighted vest, a 20 pound weighted vest, which I won't be doing, but it's a mile run followed by 100 pushup or pullups 200 pushups, 300 air squats and then another mile run and how the gym does it down here is they have a Memorial wall down in our park.

And so you, you start at the gym and from round trip to the wall, back to the gym is a mile and a quarter. So you run down to the wall, you pick a name and then you just remember it. And then you run back and you write that name on the whiteboard and that's who you're dedicating your workout to. And then you start with the most people break up the 100, 200, 300 into 20 rounds of five, 10 and 15. So you do five pullups. You can do five ring rows. You can do, you can modify it.

And then you can do, then you do your pushups and you can do 'em however you need to. And then you do the air squats and then you just do that for 20 rounds. And then they have long stem roses there and you pick up a rose and then you run back down to the wall, you put your roses on the wall and then you run back to the gym and that's the workout.

Speaker 1

That is pretty darn cool. I wish I was gonna , I wish I could stay for it. Not that I would be able to finish it because I have not worked out on a consistent basis in any way, shape or form it . I don't know that I would be able to finish it. I I've done it before the MERF challenge before I've done it a couple of times, but now I , I couldn't finish it, but I think that's really neat how they incorporate the local Memorial wall from the veterans, from all the veterans. And they do that.

That's, that's pretty cool. But Dale has always been that way . He's always been creative and, and inclusive and ,

Speaker 3

And , and they do like a, there's like a video. That's the, the movie, lone soldier, lone survivor, lone survivor. That's based off of this guy. Mm-hmm okay. And they always do a , uh , like they have like a montage, like a video and then , uh , they do the, the Anthem and then start

Speaker 1

The clock. That's pretty cool. So that is in Portmouth Ohio at the

Speaker 3

Portmouth Spartan kettle club.

Speaker 1

Portmouth Spartan ketlebell club. So look them up. They're pretty cool. I don't know if he still does . He was on, what was that show

Speaker 3

Shark tank. She

Speaker 1

Was on shark tank and then he was also started some assembly required. Is that still a nonprofit ? I think so, or for okay. For , uh , veterans that were wounded and have missing limbs

Speaker 3

And they're

Speaker 1

Adaptive athletes, they're adaptive athletes. I, they don't get enough attention in my, in my opinion. I think that should be pushed hard and heavy. I , I like that idea. In fact, I may go home and try to support it a little bit better than I , you know, anyway, I'm gonna end this for now because of all the traffic that we're sitting out here, but I'm gonna end it for now, but don't go anywhere. Just stand by for a few seconds and I'll probably be back tomorrow to wrap it up. Okay. Thanks.

Say, bye Holly. Bye.
