Well, hello, my little love bunnies. How are you? This is Carol, with the more remarkable

Carol

podcast. It is August y'all can you believe that it is getting darker sooner in the evening. Some people say that that means that the days are getting shorter. However, I have noticed that even though it's getting darker sooner, the sun is coming up earlier. So make of that what you will, regardless of time is going by so fast. The older you get, the faster it goes, it is true.

Carol Marks

So what to talk about today, I have a lot of notes written down. So bear with me as I try to get through them all. Those who listened to me on a regular basis. Know that I've been kind of struggling on trying to figure out whether I want to go niche or not. I'm, I don't want to go niche because I can't think of any one topic that I could talk about forever and ever and ever and be passionate about. I have many different interests. So you know, I'm not going to go niche.

That's just it. I'm still trying to figure out my voice, though. But I had a friend of mine who contacted me recently. And she just started listening to my podcast. And I told her I was still trying to iron things out trying to get in, get it tightened up and everything. And she said no, she said I like it that it's random. And my daughter says she likes that is random too.

Carol

So I guess I'll just keep it random. However, my interests are beauty style, entertainment, pop culture, that kind of thing. And you know, I don't want to do politics, because that's too depressing right now. I think I do want to stay with the beauty, lifestyle, kind of however, I am not a lifestyle blogger, either. And I'll get into that here in a minute. But I don't want to do any. I don't want to concentrate on anything having to do with

over 50 anymore either. I thought that's the direction I wanted to take. But the more I thought about it, it dawned on me that that only means that I am grouping myself into a smaller category, I guess if you want to call it and I've always complained and bitched and moaned about people, creating their own groups, making everybody separate from everybody else. And then I realized, I'm doing the same thing with the with the over 50 category, and I'm not going to do it anymore. I'm just going to

be me. And I think you should just be you. And I don't think we should have groups anymore.

Carol Marks

So back to the lifestyle thing. I'm not a

What is a Lifestyle Blogger?

lifestyle blogger slash podcaster either, I thought for a while I was a lifestyle blogger, but I have not after looking it up after doing some research, I realized I am not. And I will put all the links that I'm getting ready to talk about I will put in the show notes. The first link is a very good article called the difference between editorial writing and blogging and other fun facts about my job. It's by Kristin corpus, k ri STI NCORP use z. It is dated December 1 2020. So it's fairly new.

Again, I'll provide the link in the show notes. It's a great article. She mainly talks about the difference between bloggers and editorial writing. And after reading this, I think I want to be an editorial writer but I'm really just a blogger. I'm just a personal blogger that's all I am. And there's nothing wrong with that I'm not a lifestyle blogger because in a different article at simply hatched calm. I looked up what is a lifestyle

blog then. And I this article came up from simply hatch calm and basically I'm just gonna run through some bullet points that I wrote down. It's aesthetically pleasing. It makes money is mainly about how tos. Its generic is no more real personal stories or commentary. Although some lifestyle bloggers do still bring out some personal commentary

Carol

on their blogs. It's more like a commercial. It's very inspirational though. And all the reality is airbrushed. And it's easy, quick reads with beautiful images. That is not me. That is so not me. I'm not a lifestyle blogger. I'm just a person with a blog that likes to write and blog about a bunch of different things that I'm into at the moment. And that's okay too.

Carol Marks

Would I like it To lead to other things. Sure. Does it give me a creative outlet? Yes. Does it give me the opportunity to put stuff out there and get it out of my brain to make room for more ideas and information? Yes. I think if I were to take it a little bit more seriously, and be more consistent with it, I would eventually find out exactly where I want to go with this. But right now, and for the since I've been doing it from the beginning, it's, for me, it's just been fun. So again, what

are my main interests? And what do I want to mainly focus on it will be beauty style, entertainment, pop culture, I am listening to some beauty podcasts because I want to be informed that if I ever share anything with anybody on the on my podcast or on a blog, I can

Beauty Podcasts I am Listening to

refer back to these experts. I call them experts, because they have a podcast, I guess. And they're specifically about beauty. So here are a couple that I listened to. One of them is called beauty brains, there are a couple of scientists they are they get very specific with their information, which is good. There's also beauty news, and breaking beauty. I witnessed beauty and fat mascara. Those are the ones that I try to listen to, I don't maybe not listen to him, you know, every

single week or whatever. But I'll pick out a couple of episodes that I think sound interesting. And I will listen to them, just to try to stay informed and see what's happening in trending and what's coming out. Oh, so back to the article with Kristin corpus where she talks about the difference between bloggers, and editorial writing. So she says bloggers get to keep their voice, they're more casual and more relatable. When they write. They don't have to stick to any kind of guideline or

anything. Whereas publications when you're an edit when you at which because she's an editorial writing, she is an editorial writer, who also have to have a blog. But she differentiate those two, her regular paying job is an editorial writer where she pitches ideas to publications. And she gets paid for that once they hire her to go out and do the research.

Sometimes she travels, she'll do the research, she writes, The article submits it, it gets published in the publication, and publications follow certain style guidelines, so that every piece kind of looks uniform, so that you know, when you're reading something from Vogue, you know, it's from Vogue, or you're reading something from elle. You know, it's from Elle, they have certain style guidelines that they keep. So

that's the difference. And I want to I'm to me, definitely just a personal blogger, but I want to elevate it a little bit more.

Carol

As far as my podcast. Well, Hell, I don't know what I'm gonna do. I, you know, my blog, my podcast, and our YouTube channel are all going to relate somehow one way or the other. I might talk about beauty one week might talk about style influencers another week, or, oh, I want to start talking about sex in the city. The third movie is coming out they are

Sex and the City!

making it right now. It's funny, because when I was in Tunica, a week or two ago with my husband, I was up in the hotel room watching Sex in the City Marathon that I hadn't watched that show in forever. It happened to be on like entertainment or something like that. And I started watching it. And I remembered how much I liked the show. And I thought, well, wouldn't that be interesting to go back and watch it from the very beginning and

then maybe analyze it now? how I think about it now as when I did back then and I could probably pick up on some other things that I never picked out bottom before. And I know you either love Sex in the City or you hate it. I particularly love it. And I maybe I'll talk about that a couple times. Definitely talk I like to talk about the entertainment industry. movies, TV shows the crown is coming out. You know, I just talked about a whole bunch of different things. Pop

culture. And speaking of pop culture, Happy 40th birthday to

Happy 40th Birthday to MTV!

MTV. Do you remember where you were when you first saw MTV and its first music video? I do. Of course. I was 14 years old 40 years ago, and I was in my grandmother's house and I remember Look, I was raised in a very small town. Portsmouth Ohio. So small, my world was very little small, very sheltered. When MTV came on the scene, it opened up a whole new world to me. The style, the music, the makeup, the hair, people sexuality, I mean, everything was just like, What?

What this is out there, it was amazing to me. So, Oh, and speaking of MTV, all of the VJs I think on Sirius XM, they're gonna be on, you know, on Sirius XM on the ad show talking about that, but they have their own podcast on Sirius XM. You just have to go to Sirius XM, look at podcasts and just look up like MTV, 80s or whatever. And their episodes will be there. Listen to like the first three, and it's really good. It's really good. Okay, well, I have talked long enough. I just wanted to

say hello. to you about what's going on with me. I hope to have a guest later in the month. My friend that I was talking to you about that. She said she listened to my podcast recently and she said she loved it. I'm going to have her on. We're going to chit chat. I hope to hope we're going to get together on August 8. So it'll be this month sometime when that episode airs. Okay, well, that's it for now. I think I covered everything. Again, make sure to

check out the show notes. And thank you for listening
